Man alive. Can’t believe you missed the Race Driver franchise from Codemasters.
Comment by Terry Willard — Feb 27, 2008 @ 3:31 pm
Forza.
They got it right
Comment by Arthur the Magnificiant Squirrel — Feb 27, 2008 @ 3:34 pm
Stunt Car Racer.
Comment by Robert — Feb 27, 2008 @ 3:36 pm
Where’s Forza? Where’s PGR?
You’ve put Juiced, NFS etc, but not those?
My fave is Forza followed closely by GT5.
Comment by Phil Harrison — Feb 27, 2008 @ 3:37 pm
I am so dissapointed with you threespeech -
You should’ve had an option up there “for Daaaaaaancing!!!”
Comment by JohnSketch — Feb 27, 2008 @ 3:40 pm
to the 2% who voted ‘Juiced’
Shame on you….
Comment by mrsatansdojo — Feb 27, 2008 @ 3:50 pm
How could you forget Motorstorm?!
Comment by Overcrook — Feb 27, 2008 @ 3:53 pm
I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a racing game as much as I do wipeout. Almost every version has been amazing with the possible exception of ‘pure’. Pulse more than makes up for it.

I am really surprised Motorstorm isn’t on the list. As for those wondering why games not on the PS3 is not on the list all I can say is …—…—…—
Comment by Christian — Feb 27, 2008 @ 4:03 pm
Good thing ToCA wasn’t there otherwise it would have been a toss up between GT and ToCA.
Comment by Doozle — Feb 27, 2008 @ 4:05 pm
Also forgotten is the Colin McRae franchise!!!
Comment by orme — Feb 27, 2008 @ 4:05 pm
Gran Turismo. I would enjoy part 1 or 2 as a PSN classic on my PSP.
Comment by Andreas — Feb 27, 2008 @ 4:07 pm
sorry but mine has to be metropolis street racer later known as PGR.
Comment by Chris — Feb 27, 2008 @ 4:10 pm
We didn’t forget MotorStorm. Technically, it’s not a franchise.
Comment by Three Speech — Feb 27, 2008 @ 4:11 pm
Ah that’s not fair ThreeSpeech. There are two type of racer, arcade or simulation. Arcade would be Burnout hands down, whilst simulation would be Gran Turismo (and my vote here).
@ Robert - Stunt Car Racer, ha ha ha! How utterly cool was that? Ah man, memories! They should make a new one, but somehow not fek it up trying to be something more. Someone out there could make a healthy pocket of cash if they made a new SCR for the PSN.
Comment by LordOfRuin — Feb 27, 2008 @ 4:14 pm
1. MotorStorm (2 is in progress so technically it is a franchise)
2. Colin McRae
3. Screamer
What a rubbish list you put together
Comment by Rob — Feb 27, 2008 @ 4:15 pm
Oh and ThreeSpeech, how can MotorStorm not be a franchise if there is a second game in the works?
Comment by LordOfRuin — Feb 27, 2008 @ 4:16 pm
I thought it was a question the Need for Speed. Damn Wednesday afternoons!
Comment by Deaf_Raiders — Feb 27, 2008 @ 4:20 pm
Motorstorm!
Comment by Savage — Feb 27, 2008 @ 4:24 pm
Gran Turismo is the daddy, always will be!
Comment by Nathaniel — Feb 27, 2008 @ 4:37 pm
I had PGR on my Xbox. Utter shite! Too few races, too many cone challenges. I buy a racer to race - I don’t want an M25 simulator!
I’ve also played Forza on my mate’s 360. Very average - not a patch on GT.
Comment by Paranoimia — Feb 27, 2008 @ 4:40 pm
Of these I’ll say WipEout, but I would have voted for Collin McRae Rally (I’m not sure if they’ll continue to brand it that way now) had it been listed. WRC is pretty good though.

Comment by Johnny Sasaki — Feb 27, 2008 @ 5:45 pm
well i voted wipeout..never been that much into racers (although RR4 was excellent)
also…why vote for a game that doesnt appear on this console?? i.e forza and pgr????
this is a dedicated ps3 site after all…
p.s GT wipes the floor with ‘em
Comment by sedaripper1973 — Feb 27, 2008 @ 6:03 pm
it’s bloody seedaripper1973 thank you very much mr shite windows/explorer
Comment by seedaripper1973 — Feb 27, 2008 @ 6:05 pm
would have been Burnout for arcade but they killed it for me with that last game.
also ToCA!!! i still play toca3.. well, not so much since i got DiRT
but always GT for real driving pleasure, gets the vote for hours played in total.
and for the old gits above, STUNT CAR RACE with a null modem cable and 2 amigas FTW.
and i see the xbots are here in force again. are your own sites that poor you have to come here?

This is an evil list i cant choose just one
GT Burnout and F1 they are my favs out of that list all three are diffrent types of racing and are equally good in there own respects
Comment by yxxxx — Feb 27, 2008 @ 6:27 pm
Project Gotham Racing
Forza
Comment by Rosco — Feb 27, 2008 @ 6:42 pm
Need For Speed is my favorite, but they haven’t made a good one since Hot Pursuit 2. High Stakes was my favorite, because paying for damages added elements to the gameplay that other racers don’t have. Ridge Racer is my second favorite, but It’s just too hard to complete those last few races. I did it on one game, and I won’t do it agian, so I won’t buy another Ridge Racer, unless it gets a good online comunity. GT follows closly behind at third, and GT5 may make the difference for htat series, becaue of viechle damage.
Comment by Moses — Feb 27, 2008 @ 7:41 pm
Wheres Motorstorm?
Comment by Eararaldor — Feb 27, 2008 @ 7:50 pm
You can’t compare simulation racers to arcade ones. Gran Turismo and Burnout are both incredible games but they are no more alike than Call Of Duty and Ratchet and Clank.
Comment by TheShirts — Feb 27, 2008 @ 7:57 pm
Where’s ‘other’? Seriously-Forza is better than Gran Turismo when it comes to realtime physics modeling and AI. Sure, the game isn’t as pretty as GT, but damn if it isn’t more fun to play.
But I guess insecurity is still the order of the day with Sony anymore.
Comment by Matt — Feb 27, 2008 @ 9:04 pm
How about Mario Kart? That’s a racing game, right?
:-)
Comment by Malte — Feb 27, 2008 @ 9:04 pm

Comment by Hypoman — Feb 27, 2008 @ 9:41 pm
No better driving game like GTR!!! Sorry guys, but you’re missing the spot here!!! Not going to be on 360 anymore. Maybe on PS3, SIMBIM???
Comment by John Doe 69 — Feb 27, 2008 @ 9:47 pm
GT.
Nothing else to say.
Comment by ricky — Feb 27, 2008 @ 11:00 pm
If Forza was up there, you’d all be moaning cos it isn’t beating GT. Face it, the reason its not there is because this is a Playstation site and that is also the reason that if it was, it wouldn’t be fairly represented.
Comment by TheShirts — Feb 27, 2008 @ 11:31 pm
LOL@ people who voted Juiced….
and yeh, PGR and other xbox titles aren’t there, for obvious reasons….
GT for life! hurry up polyphony digital, make us all happy…
Comment by stirlo — Feb 28, 2008 @ 1:38 am
Why is F1 up there? Sony have failed to renew the license with Formula One Management.
Even when toy had the license you had baldy phill harrison lie to people about downloadable tracks, etc. The other major flaw was having Studio Liverpool in charge of the development of the game. All the did was re-make F106 from the PS2 onto the PS3. Nothing changed, not even the timing errors or commentary.
Quick cash in on franchise anyone?
Comment by anon — Feb 28, 2008 @ 6:57 am
I’d like to see a new racing game, where the level difficulty was increasing the complexity of the randomly generated road, traffic and competition, you were driving. That way, every time you play, the road is different. Do you remember Lotus Turbo Challenge, where you could enter a string of characters and a course was generated, or choose random? If it worked something like that, then the source generated string could be shared for multiplayer games too, so you’d be able to play someone else on the same road. Ahh, I wish I could just think things into existence, and try them out to see if they worked as well in the real world as they do in my head.
Failing that, I’d take a jeep race in Warhawk over Juiced any day of the week. Juiced was particularly rubbish.
Comment by LordOfRuin — Feb 28, 2008 @ 8:54 am
Crazy Frog Racer is missing from the list!
Comment by Mr Pickle — Feb 28, 2008 @ 9:04 am
MOTORSTORM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! followed by WipEout and Ridge Racer for me , Arcade racing over Gran Turismo realism for me.
Comment by carton — Feb 28, 2008 @ 10:09 am
Stunt Car Racer is the daddy of course… but it ain’t a franchise.
I’m surprised at the exclusion of Flatout…
Burnout FTW! Paradise doesn’t drag it down toooo much.
Juiced? Really?
Comment by rooee — Feb 28, 2008 @ 11:04 am
I hope they name the next colin McRae game in the blokes honour - I think he deserves it, maybe have cars that spanned his whole career or something.
Other than that I go for wipeout, purely as you can pick it and plan and design and sound values moved games into the realm of cool.
Comment by Terry — Feb 28, 2008 @ 11:42 am
hey terry have you not played DiRT? that has plenty of his classic cars in. mk2 Escort race anyone?

PS3: Motorstorm
PS2: Midnight Club, Dub Edition
Comment by Divine — Feb 28, 2008 @ 1:02 pm
Motorstorm.
It’s getting a sequel so technically that makes it a franchise. Why wasn’t it on the list?
I understand that GT is very realistic, but it is more of a driving simulator, rather than a game. That’s why I go for Motorstorm.
Comment by Andronix — Feb 28, 2008 @ 1:18 pm
I voted burnout because so far it’s the only racer that has really moved on with next gen. The others are pretty much the same with suped up graphics. Paradise city and it’s open world fun and seamless online connectivity are really impressive. I really hope wipeout and the others show some innovation. All the talk of the new GT seems pretty same old same old imo
Comment by Tom F — Feb 28, 2008 @ 2:42 pm
For me the absence of the ToCA series (Race Driver) is a shame considering this is a historical question and not about the here and now. I’m much more excited about the release of the latest incarnation, Grid, than I am about Granturismo for example.
I’ve been playing both equally as long and as far as a competitive racing experience goes ToCA can’t be beaten.
Untill then I’m engrossed in Burnout Paradise which is great fun, just not a pure racer like ToCA.
Comment by Sharky — Feb 28, 2008 @ 5:54 pm
