Morning all. Just a quick one to see who got Drake’s at the weekend and, if so, what do you think of it? Where are you up to? Anyone stuck? Anyone complete it over the weekend? Let us know what you think.

Completed!
Awesome game, absolutely love it.
The Audio is quality amazing.
The visuals are very impressive.
Dialogue and storyline are well, brilliant also.
Can’t wait for #2!
I must mention however that SingStar is the new best thing ever…

Oh and Uncharted is the first game I’ve ever played where the thought of skipping the cutscenes never once comes to mind…
Comment by Tony Nibbles — Dec 10, 2007 @ 11:21 am
I get the game last friday afternoon and I’ve finished it yesterday afternoon in normal mode. Quite quick for a game, but, and there’s a “but”, five minutes after finishing it, I restarted a new game in the difficult mode. Why? Because I don’t wanted it to end. It was so good, really! Two friends of mine saw me playing while I was begining the game again. And after a while, they thanked me to offer them such a good movie to see! They wanted to know more! That resumes quite well the quality of the game. Thank you Naughty Dog, but now you’re condemned to offer us Uncharted 2!
Best regards, Bob (sorry for my english, by the way, I’m french)
Comment by BOB — Dec 10, 2007 @ 11:24 am
Finished it last weekend (US version), definitely my “Game of the Year”. This game certainly raises the bar to very lofty heights in terms of pretty much everything. Production values, extras, polish, gameplay, narrative, cinematics, characters etc.
This generation SONY’s greatest strength is definitely all the extremely talented first and second party developers like Naughty Dog who will create a wealth of world class exclusives who hopefully will be as good as Uncharted.
Comment by Kamiboy — Dec 10, 2007 @ 11:25 am
spent an hour with it, naughty dog have done an incredible job. There is a place for short quality games like this.
Comment by Mr Jimmy — Dec 10, 2007 @ 11:31 am
I bought the US version also and completed it a week or so ago. Absolutely loved it, really good pacing and varied gameplay so it didn’t get too samey.
Like Tony Nibbles, can’t wait for a sequel. Only downside? Final “boss” was a bit paltry. Otherwise, great stuff.
Comment by Pete Cullen — Dec 10, 2007 @ 11:31 am
Baught it last thursday, and what can I say more than it’s an amazing adventure with unbelieveble graphics. Haven’t finnished the game yet, chapter 14 so far. I hope there will be a triologi.
Comment by Johan — Dec 10, 2007 @ 11:36 am
Completed it too, awesome game. The only puzzle that I didnt get was the one in the library with the statues and the compass, it was random messing about that got me through that. Didn’t understand what the “clue” in the diary meant. also for those who have not played it just yet, wait for the “Bunker” level - reminded me a lot of silent hill….
Comment by Terry — Dec 10, 2007 @ 11:39 am
Picked this up on Friday and i have just started chapter 5, entering the castle in search of Elena.
Brilliant game and excellent use of cut scenes etc. Seemless loading really is well implemented and it just makes you want to keep on playing. It never breaks away from the game so you never get distracted and feel like putting it down….
I dont want the game to end and i have been impressed with the length of each chapter so far. I will definatly play through this again on the harder level and try to find all treasures etc. Friends have been blown away and are considering picking up a PS3 for this game alone.
Bring on number 2 and make the puzzles a lot harder please…..

Comment by BennyD — Dec 10, 2007 @ 11:45 am
Got the game last week and currently a bit over halfway through (got other things on my plate unfortunately to distract me from the game).
I must say I really, really like the game. This, along with Ratchet and CoD4, will be one of the few games in the recent years I’ve actually bothered to finish
Comment by xmu — Dec 10, 2007 @ 11:48 am
Finished it and restarted on Hard!
No spoilers here, but the storyline is properly flair! Someone needs to grab hold of Evan Wells and option it for a movie franchise!

Thanks alot you guys, gonna have to spend more money now and go a buy Uncharted. My missus is going to kill me , although I could get it for her for xmas…………

I’m upset. I want to play. You all sound like you’re having too much fun. I’m like a kid looking through a fence. My side of the fence is for left handed people, your side is for right handed, and you have a great toy. Boo!
Comment by LordOfRuin — Dec 10, 2007 @ 12:00 pm
Great game - stayed up late last night to finish it… I just couldn’t save, stop and turn it off! Will definitely be playing through again to unlock more medals / rewards. The story did offer a few twists / surprises and the atmosphere changes in the latter stages. The variety of weapons also surprised me - loved seeing an MP40 in there!
The game has many more positives. However, I haven’t heard much in the way of constructive critism (!) so a couple of aspects did stand-out for me which I hadn’t read in reviews.
Some jumping puzzles are frustrating. One annoyance is when I have to jump across a gap with a parallel wall - if you don’t get the angle quite right, Drake brushes the wall and does a half-jump before falling to his death.
I also found the camera seemed to be too close to Drake and felt quite clumsy in more enclosed spaces - wished I could zoom it out a bit. It started to make me feel a bit giddy (which is strange as I am a hardened gamer!).
Comment by Obli — Dec 10, 2007 @ 12:07 pm
Got it yesterday (snuck it into the supermarket trolley while the missus wasn’t looking) but haven’t had a chance to actually play it yet. Can’t wait to get cracking on it tonight.
Comment by Dan (PSN-Detale) — Dec 10, 2007 @ 12:13 pm
Great game. Finished it after 10hours on normal, am playing again on difficult.
Only grumble…. because it’s been in development a long time I’ve seen the 1st third of the game on GamerTV. There were parts of the game were I knew instantly what to do because I’d seen it done on the TV 3 or 4 times.
Comment by Paul — Dec 10, 2007 @ 12:29 pm
Only played to about the 4th chapter but its pretty spectacular so far.
Graphically and Audiably its faultless
Linear 5.1 PCM… yes please!
The only downside I can see is its reported short legnth. I cant remember how big the Jak games were but im sure they must have been 20+ hours?
So thats a tad disapointing, although I can see myself replaying it in hard to get achievments and the bonus stuff unlocked.

I’m more used to PC style shooters so when I tried the demo I just seemed to die alot.
Is there anyone with similar experience that can reassure me that I’ll get used to it? If so I’ll be buying it this week!
Comment by Shrui — Dec 10, 2007 @ 12:42 pm
@ LordOfRuin
Surely you must have gotten used to camera on the right stick move on the left by now??
The one and only game I can think of where you could change the camera to the left stick was MOH on the PS1… and im not sure on that as I think that game was the pioneer of sticked fps ?
But every other game I have played I honeslty cant recall ever seeing a swap sticks control option?
Does seem odd though, I have left handed friends and it hadnt even crossed their minds about the sticks.
Comment by SH4RKY — Dec 10, 2007 @ 12:58 pm
@Shrui,
Forget all you know about PC shooters, because this isn’t an FPS or 3rd person shooter, it’san action adventure where the Gun Combat isn’t constantly on the go like most FPS games.
Change the way you play your games and you’ll do fine.I like FPS a lot too, but because I have a wide array of games, this was no more difficult than any FPS for me.
PLus, the game is trully awesome. Got it on Friday and completed it early Sunday Morning. 12.5hrs on Normal and 55 treasures collected with 430points all in my first play through, but even though I have completed it, it’s a game that wants to drag you straight back in for another go, because it is that good and the graphics are gorgeous.
Not many games get me wanting to play them all over again like Drakes, and that is a sign of a quality title.
People may say that it doesn’t do anything new, but I think they are wrong. Yes, gun combat and puzzling may not be new, but the way they have put all the nice little touches, such as touching the Submarine door as he walks through the hatch, the way he gets wet depending on how far in the water he goes or the little flinches and other additions that have no impact on the game itself, add so much to the atmosphere of the game, itis like watching an Animated Action/Adventure, but we actually get to play it.
This game is class, through and through and can’t wait for number 2.
Comment by Capeview — Dec 10, 2007 @ 1:12 pm
Thanks Capeview for the reply.
I had heard the demo gives an impression of their being more action than there is in the game but that wasn’t my problem.
My problem was the controls, I’ve never got used to console based aiming. So in the demo I just end up missing alot, run out of ammo then get killed while spending half an hour aiming at an enemy.
Tell me there is hope for a crap gamer!
Comment by Shrui — Dec 10, 2007 @ 1:33 pm
Love the game, but am I the only one who takes offense at frame rate drops?
Stop doing more than the machine can handle! I prefer a steady frame rate over fancy graphics any day.
Comment by Robert — Dec 10, 2007 @ 2:00 pm

It’s a brilliant game. Like others here, I completed it quickly and am playing it through again… I just don’t want it to end!
For me, Uncharted is the first PS3 masterpiece. It’s the best single-player experience available at the moment. It’s the most immersive story and gaming experience I’ve seen since the original Resident Evil on PS1.
Comment by Paranoimia — Dec 10, 2007 @ 2:31 pm
I got it through the post on Friday morning from Play.com! Played it quite a bit and upto chapter 12 or 13. I’ll enjoy going back through it to find all the treasure and get all the medals!
It is a brilliant brilliant game. It really really is!

Beaten the game on Hard, Crushing, got all treasures, got all medal points. FANTASTIC.
Sequel please Naughty Dog.
Comment by Shin-Ra — Dec 10, 2007 @ 2:47 pm
SH4RKY @ 21, I know, it’s really pants, but I just can’t get my head to work with the other thumbs. I used to try and try and try on the more usual setup, but just couldn’t play very well. Always have to think about what I was doing, always cursing as I neatly stepped sideways instead of rotating; and looking at the deck instead of walking forward. After not very long, I usually get rather agitated, and break things. On games that allow me to swap stick, everything is just natural and a joy. Rarely do I find games that I can’t just dive into the options and either select lefty, or manually change the controls.
I mean, at the end of the day, how hard could it be to impliment? They have the option in invert the controls for those who like that. Oh well, I guess I’m just going to miss this game.
I feel so cheated though mate. At last a worthy game comes along… and I can’t play it (no really, I can’t, on the demo, I set it to easy, and still couldn’t finish it). Yet, I’ll kick yer arse at Warhawk or Resistance:FallOfMan.
Comment by LordOfRuin — Dec 10, 2007 @ 2:56 pm
Completed it after 10 hours 45min of straight play …. yes its that good , just couldnt put it down.
the game is stunning…and has quality Ooosing from evey level.
The only game this year iv hated completeing as i just wanted it to go on and on …………..
Best single player game on any system in 2007 IMO.

Mr pessimist here : 11 hours for a 65 euros game is to expensive
Graphical wise & also audio wise, this game wipes the weeklystoreupdate-tears out of my eyes.
oftopic @1: Singstar the next best thing??
where are the Wireless mics (the reason of months delay), where are the more 300 songs before the end of this year??
currently 41 (of which 35 are genuine CRAP) and not even worth 50 cents instead of 1.49 Euro
ontopic 11 hours is to less for a really good game
20 is acceptable minimum

@LordOfRuin: So say they go through the effort of adding a stick switch option, you play it, then discover that you still suck! Hey, maybe it wasn’t the game!
Seriously though, every game has controls like this, like SH4RKY says I’ve never seen an option to switch the sticks. If anything, you should be asking Sony for a lefty joystick, because even when they switch the sticks, the buttons and directional keys would then still be on the wrong side.
There’s a lot of games that don’t offer controls they’re comfortable with. E.g. I’m used to having inverted X and Y when moving the camera, and inverted Y in first person mode. Yet in many games recently none of the sticks are inverted in the default settings, and sometimes you even can’t configure it exactly the way you’re used to. But instead of complaining, I figure it is more productive to just get used to the different control scheme, maybe then I won’t have to divert from the default settings so often! You should try that too.

Finished it the other week (US import). Loved it. Game looks absolutely stunning and is great fun to play. Now on my third play through, on Crushing. Still haven’t found all the medals though
. Seriously, if you haven’t already buy this game.
Comment by Matt — Dec 10, 2007 @ 3:57 pm
@Darkie.
I think people forget how much it costs to go to the Cinema now, just for 1hr 30 mins of movie, such as £7. Base this on 11hrs of gaming and you have nearly £56 worth of Cinema time.
So, is 65 euros(Don’t know the conversion) really all that expensive, when you consider the quality that has gone into Drakes, with the Musical Scores, Cutscenes, Scenery. The whole game oozes quality and for me, is one of only a few games that I want to play again and again.
I got it for £27.49, due to vouchers etc, and it was worth every penny of it. Personally, compared to most cinema films lately, I have enjoyed this experience more than some of those films. Oh, and I still have the game, which I can play again if I so wish.
As for the delays on the Wireless mics for SIngstar, I wonder if Sony are trying to offload a whole batch of Wired mics because they have a stack left for the PS2 and not many of them are selling. Could well be the reason for the Wireless Mics delay?
Comment by Capeview — Dec 10, 2007 @ 3:58 pm
I rented it on friday afternoon and I’m glad I did. Finished it friday night after playing it non stop - 7 hrs 19 mins. Fantastic game but far too short. Wasn’t too keen on the scene on the jet ski up the river, that was rather annoying.
Comment by Bry — Dec 10, 2007 @ 5:10 pm
Ignore my previous cries for help! Sat down for the last half hour determined to beat the demo. Got the hang of it now. Going to be a Drake size hole in my wallet now! >:)
Just picked up Singstar and have to agree that the song selection right now ain’t great (haven’t played any of this series before but I can’t imagine how people survived on 1 version with a limited number of songs!). We need more varied songs for pitch level as well. My voice is low and was quite knackered after a session of singing with my g/f on Saturday night!
Got to love the home videos though! Singing puppets get my vote!
Comment by Shrui — Dec 10, 2007 @ 5:14 pm
Great game! Loved the visuals, gameplay and the gun fights were amazing to play. Completed it on easy with my fps-illiterate buddy, but have restarted it straight away on hard! Currently trying to find the rest of the treasure (which is a bitch) and doing the rest of the medals!
Comment by towers — Dec 10, 2007 @ 5:42 pm
I found COD4’s campaign mode engrossing but UNCHARTED is superior even to that. Excellent storyline, graphics etc. A game for the PS3 to be proud of.
Comment by Divine — Dec 10, 2007 @ 5:46 pm
Agreed. Got it for 27ish quid… bargain of the year for a brand new next gen game.
When I say im dissapointed by it being short I mean becuase its a great game that I would love to play for longer… not that I feel cheated becuase the game was cut short etc.
Anyway, replay in harder modes and skill points/achievments will draw me back to make it into a 20+ hour game.
You are right LordOfRuin, it would be the simplest of tasks for a dev to include a swap sticks option, but I think you are in such a minority with your problem they probably never even consider it… unless someone like your self was working at the company and brought it to their attention…. that or you email Sony/ND silly and plead for it to be included.
Comment by SH4RKY — Dec 10, 2007 @ 5:47 pm
Or… if you are in any way electronically minded and dont mind voiding a pad warrenty - it may be worth a tinker to see if its just a case of swapping some wires over to permanently invert the pad?
Maybe try it out on an old PS2/3rd party thing?
Cant hurt but try…

Comment by Tielo — Dec 10, 2007 @ 6:51 pm
The most beautifull game ever made in this new generation so far, considering any console!
I want to congratulate the “dogs” because you have created an experience that gives true meaning to the word “games”, as a mean of entertainement.
AMAZING!!
Completed the game in 7 hours & 50 minutes, normal mode, a little short but that doesn`t even scrath the overall quality of this formidable work.
Forget Jak & …..( what was the name? XD), Uncharted`s sequel is the way to go.
PS: When I think myself as a gamer, and wen I think of reasons to justify the time I spent with them, I can think of Uncharted.
Comment by GabranthPT — Dec 10, 2007 @ 7:20 pm
not going to buy this as i can’t see that it’s worth owning, but i will rent it out for the weekend (5 quid) finish it, and spend the money i’ve saved (40 quid) on something more worthwhile, like 2 secondhand ps3 games.

haven’t gotten into it very much yet, just into the castle to find the girl but so far i like it. i’m right on the cusp of beating assassins creed and i’m going to finish that up before i pick drakes back up. i think that if i start drakes i’ll leave creed alone on the shelf collecting dust(by the way great game assassins creed is).

just echoing what everyone else says really, fantastic game, had a spare half hour so fired it up, just managed to tear myself away after 3 hours! looking forward to getting back to it
this and the awesome ratchet and clank make me glad i have a PS3.
Comment by Mal — Dec 10, 2007 @ 10:56 pm
Finished it in a bit over a night in Normal, now up to the end of game ‘boss’ in Hard…..once that’s done, I’ll focus on the medals.
Nice game, awesome in almost every way. I just wish it was a bit longer! But it’s not unusual these days…..8-12 hours seems to be the span of most games. If it was just stretched out just a tad (to, say, 15-20 hours), I’m sure that hollow feeling of ‘wow, that was great…..but it’s over already’ would go away.
Here’s hoping the next ’round’ of top tier games give us gamers that bit more bang for our buck.
Again, not complaining……I loved every minute of playing the game.
Oh, and let me shoot the wildlife and make dead bodies react to fire next time….lol. I read why it was left out, but there’s something satisfying about running up to a downed enemy that was quite troublesome, and giving him a couple more blasts….just to be sure, ya know?
Comment by SalmonKing — Dec 10, 2007 @ 11:36 pm
Haven’t bought it yet.
Although I liked the demo, I’m a bit on the fence on this game. Especially with it hefty price tag here in The Netherlands, €79,-
(who ever made that price up should be… talked to.)
Comment by Yuri — Dec 11, 2007 @ 12:02 am
Amazing game, great visuals (the lighting effects are amazing, especially what appears to be the use of HDR). Soundtrack was always welcome, background sounds filled in nicely. Action was intense at times but never felt frustrating. No auto aim was a good way to go.
5 out of 5 in my book.
