We’ve been talking to SCEUK and they tell us they realise the US demo of Uncharted is not playable outside of that territory but, fear not, as the Uncharted demo is coming to the UK / Europe on November 22. The game will be available to buy on December 7. Also, a preview is coming soon from Three Speech’s Chris Burke based on the first few levels of the game, which we will post shortly.
We’ve set up an online Q&A with Naughty Dog so we would love to receive your questions at [email protected]. We will select the best 20 for the team to answer and get these up on TS in the coming weeks.

I soooo want it.

I know questions I would love answered:
Development on the PS3 - how was it/opinions?
What technologies went into creating the game? - subsurface scattering/ parellax mapping/ procedural textures etc etc
How long did development time actually take from the first snippet of code to the final product?
Will you be utilising the uncharted engine for upcoming titles - PS3 Jak anyone?
I could go on

yep sony finally got a solution to get rit of the complaints of the EU store…
make the items from the others stores to not work in the EU region..
complaints gone,
pissed of people gone to Xbox,
where actually the data is available in 1 store worldwide (and not limited to 1 release day a week but throughout the week if there is something big to be released)
a nice question: what was the reason of delay of the demo for the EU region, since the US demo already had all the languages in it.
Comment by Darkie — Nov 9, 2007 @ 6:09 pm
I have been a Sony “fan” ever since I made the switch from the Super Nintendo to the Sony Playstation. Over the years leading up to today, Europeans had to take a lot of bullshit on the Sony Playstation consoles. Games that were absolute classics such as Final Fantasy Tactics, Chrono Cross, Suikoden 3, Odin Sphere and many, many others were not released in Europe, nevermind all the games that were released months, even years, after the north american counterpart. Some might argue that the 3rd party developers are to blame but I disagree. Sony could have easily enforced fair treatment for all customers.
And now we’re at the next generation of consoles. Sony had 2 consoles (3 if you include the PSP) to practise with..and Europeans STILL get screwed over.
First the Playstation 3 was released many months after the US release. According to Sony, this is because it could not create enough Playstation 3’s for both the US/EU. This is NOT a valid excuse as it clearly shows Sony did not started to manufactur early enough. Instead of saying “Well, let’s split the PS3’s between all regions”, sony gave Europeans a big “Screw you” and gave all the PS3’s to the US. This already annoys me but what adds even more salt to the wound is that Playstation products NEVER sell fast their early months. Oh sure the release burst is always quite big but after that sales slow down. result? Tons of Playstation 3’s on store shelves, none for Europe.
But apparently Sony felt that it had not screwed over it’s european fans just yet. Sony made good use of the European delay and shipped an inferior console to Europe. The 60gb PAL PS3’s do not include the emotion chip, which means limited, often crappy backwards compatability. the 20 GB and 80 GB Playstation 3’s were never released here. SCEA gives North Americans the option to pick between the 40GB PS3 and the 80GB PS3. SCEE has different plans. SCEE will discontinue the 60GB model (just like SCEA) but will not offer a 80gb model, only the 40GB model. this means that in Europe, it’s impossible to get a PS3 with backwards compatability as soon as the 60GB are sold out.
So enough about hardware. let’s talk software.
First of all, Why does the European Playstation store takes so long to update? The difference is often weeks. We live in the year 2007, the age of internet, and it’s still to much to ask to release a demo close to it’s North American counterpart? I can even understand not releasing on the same day because of the time difference, but I see no reason why it can’t be updated the next day or the day after. Instead sony sticks to it’s bullshit “Sorry, we only update on thursday!” excuse.
Now ofcourse Uncharted’s demo. oh, you have really done it now Sony. Again, the Demo has only been released on the North American store. to make things worse, the European Demo has not even been announced yet and it can take weeks before it gets here. The ideal thing would be to let Europeans download from the US store and the europeans that don’t care too much about the game can wait for the EU demo release so they can download it faster. Now I see you think “Duh, Sony never intended for Europeans to download from the US store” but I think that’s total bullcrap, if Sony never intended for Europeans to download from the US store than A: why is this possible anyway? and B: Why the heck was the US demo release of R&C:ToD in so many different languages? Even languages like Dutch and Swedish were included in the US demo release, I wasn’t aware there was a significant number of dutch and swedish people living in the US.
But ofcourse Sony thought “fuck it, bastard europeans are going to wait, and wait they will!”. So it turns out the Uncharted Demo does not work on PAL Playstation 3’s. First of all I don’t really understand why it doesn’t work, as far as I know, most, if not all demo’s work on PAL PS3’s. so why change it on the most anticipated PS3 game of this year? I remember sony claiming the days of region lock are over, yet this demo is still not playable on PAL PS3’s.
Another complaint I have is the fact Uncharted is released in Europe weeks after the NA release. if Microsoft can release Halo in all regions in a matter of only 3 days, then why does sony needs weeks? Even infinity wards manages to keep the time difference between COD4 release to a matter of a few days.
So why can’t Sony? beats me
Now you might think “dude, grow up, it’s just a demo/game” and you’re right, but this happens to be a game I have been looking forward to for many months now and now sony is denying me even a small glimpse of the game. I have been waiting all day for this demo only to get punched in the face.
Comment by konnichi — Nov 9, 2007 @ 6:15 pm
we have to wait 2 more fucking weeks? great news!!!! NOT!
Comment by snake — Nov 9, 2007 @ 7:13 pm
Sony please stop this regional locked policy as we now have on the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune demo. It is 2007 now we don’t have region on the internet.
Comment by ErMurazor — Nov 9, 2007 @ 7:15 pm
Why must EVERYTHING come out later for us Europeans, while we are buying the PS3 more then ANY OTHER CONTINENT.
We are the most important customers, yet we get crappy advertisement, crappy PSN and crappy pricing.
Is it Sony or just SCEE that screws up all the time?
Comment by DoggySpew — Nov 9, 2007 @ 7:21 pm
Can we ask if region locking is a thing of the future? not just demo’s but games? and if so why? if you cant understand japanese people still got the GT 5 demo and are able to play it that isnt an excuse.
Cheers for the input.

if this was an isolated incident i could actually believe it was a bug but as this is just the latest in a long line of kicks in the bollocks delivered to eu gamer by the idiots at sony i have to say no fucking way jose.
fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on youe fool me fiftysix times, shame i dont know where you live so i can give you a kicking.
it’s a fucking debacle and sony cannot wriggle out of this one with some pathetic excuse.
the whole fucking world knows what kind of arseholes they’re being to their biggest customers and they aint gonna be able to keep pulling this shit forever.
Comment by thedragonrider — Nov 9, 2007 @ 7:37 pm
Like we didn’t already know we would have to wait? We want to try the demo now. What’s the point in us giving questions for ND if we don’t know anything about the game cause we haven’t tried out the demo yet?
Nice screen captures Naughty Dog, ummmm yeah,…
Comment by Deano — Nov 9, 2007 @ 7:40 pm
People here seem to have peas for brains or something.
IT’S NOT REGION LOCKED.
IT’S A BUG.
Yes, a bug guys.
A bug that makes impossible to play the demo in other regions. How is it possible, you ask? Well, are you programmers? Do you know how to setup game code to be multilanguage? Thought so.
So stop all the useless drama. It’s getting annoying. Go buy the 360, the Wii, grow, mature or whatever. I don’t care. All of you only give gamers a bad image as snotty little brats.

Here are my questions.
1. Best physics in a game, but why not incorporate the rag doll physics on downed enemies. I know they are there, but they only react when you run over them. Nothing happends when you shoot them. What was the reason behind this?
2. No crouch button? Maybe I missed something. There where many times in the 15 min demo that I really felt the need to crouch down.
3. there are beautifully animated fish in the water, but I can’t shoot them.
4. also,Ive noticed that when I shoot a puddle it makes a brown bullet mark. The same texture that shows when I shoot a tree. It looks kinda dumb.
BTW, awesome game.
Comment by ION — Nov 9, 2007 @ 8:01 pm
Omaesan, wtf are you talking about?
people paid good money for a console so they are entitled to complain. Yes the PSN is free but it hasn’t had content locked to specific areas. Thus bringing about more anger/grief.
A bug? how quaint. It works fine in the US where it was released but not anywhere else? So by your logic the game will have a bug that makes it US only. huraah.
People are entitled to their opinions despite what cretins like you think.

I find it very amusing, American gamers making fun of European gamers for getting into the US Store.
How many of them came here for the PES2008 demo? How many of them went to the Japanese Store for GT5: Prologue demo?
Trying to teach I leasson you didn`t learn!
Comment by GabranthPT — Nov 9, 2007 @ 10:22 pm
Ask them this question, did they fired the responsible for this stupid region lock idea?
Comment by Max — Nov 9, 2007 @ 10:40 pm
This demo thing is all a bit of a mess. Some people saying it was not intentional and others saying it is infact ‘locked’.
What Sony should keep in mind right now is the fact that one of the PS3’s best features right now is that it is region free. And so long as there are so few games availble for it, this will remain a thoroughly appreciated feature by its users.
A great example would be Rock Band - a hugely anticipated game that currently has many many European Stateside Pre Orders, and is making some European 360 owners a little annoyed that they have to wait the extra months. It’s a +1 in a sea of delayed PS3 versions.
It would be really really quite bad if Sony decided to go against the region free policy in the future - it offers no favours at all for users and will only ever piss them off.
Comment by Tony Nibbles — Nov 9, 2007 @ 10:46 pm
I just read a comment on the playstation blog, that they find 8 languages text and voices in the demo, including german and Portuguese, etc.
I think the game is brokn and they dont want to talk about that, warning to all the people will import it. I am sure they will delay it in the EU till next year.
Comment by Max — Nov 9, 2007 @ 11:09 pm
Max: Don’t worry, there shouldn’t be any delays to the release. I got the final review build yesterday, and December 5 was confirmed 2 days ago for Sweden.
