Please stop with the microtransactions.
Flogging a dead horse with Motorstorm and Folklore isn’t even out a month, they must have had that content available before it was launched, they were selling add ons a week after it was launched.
Everyone should boycott these blatant fleecing scams, they are worse than the premium rate phone- that the TV stations got done for.
The department of fair trade should investigate these so called microtransactions.

Folklore has been out for a long time already in Japan. Motorstorm is still the best game in its genre so there’s nothing wrong with getting a new track for it if its any good.
If you don’t like it, then don’t buy it.
Tekken Online is awesome. I’m definitely not getting VF5 now, as this cost me 3.49 to upgrade and it’s got a much nicer lobby system and everything, and seems to run very well. W00t!

@Ton Capone
Re: microtransactions
No-one is forcing you to buy them. I like the fact that I can choose to expand my game if I so wish. Yes without the PSN some of these things might be in the game at launch, but then again some won’t have been.

A few quibbles about this update firstly how come it took so long to update I even checked in at 10.30 last night and it still wasnt renewed, secondly it where is the rest of it, to me it looks like there is only 3 items in my store cool borders, tekken online (counts as one) and need for speed demo.
Although I was waiting all day yesterday to download tekken online, after reading a review it may have changed my mind about it. the only thing that will make me buy it now is if you can use the headset with it, becuase I may as well just turn the difficulty up other wise. Can you use the headset anyone?
Comment by BENNE77 — Nov 9, 2007 @ 11:50 am
Our early adoptor reward was to be asked for £3.49 for Tekken online, some reward, complete joke and insult more like.
I will NEVER buy any of the extras from the store.
Blu-Ray discs can hold 50gig of info, they are barely using the amount a DVD would, the game is more expensive, the console is more expensive and then they want us to fork out for extras that easily could, no SHOULD have been included at launch.
If a Sicillain ran a business like this they would be investigated for racketering/extortion, I kid you not.
Do not be fooled by these extras, they are gimmicks and not worth it.
Comment by Ton Capone — Nov 9, 2007 @ 11:56 am
Hadn’t realised they region locked MGS4 aswell, shame
Comment by JohnSketch — Nov 9, 2007 @ 12:05 pm
@Carl Crawford
OMG never read someone that stupid. MGS4 is even not on the store, how could it be region lock ? and do you read sometimes the official playstation blog ? Uncharted developpers apologize on it about the PAL lock, which is a bug and never was meant to be in the demo. If it would be a REAL region lock, we would receive a message saying the game cannot be played, and not the “insert game disc” that we have now.
Comment by Jenny — Nov 9, 2007 @ 12:10 pm
I’m pleased that the wallet funding process has been streamlined. It was awkward before, but the buy now option really helps smooth things out. I’m also happy that there’s new Folklore content up, as I had fun starting playing the first pack “kidnapped folk” last night.
I also like to see developers support their games with continued content post-release, so of course, Motorstorm content is nothing to be sniffed at.
Look on the official Playstation blog if you want to see images of what’s included in the Devil’s Weekend pack.
If you enjoy playing the games in question, then chances are, you’d appreciate the additions (you couldn’t get any other way) more, Ton. If you don’t, or disagree they’re worth the asking price, that’s fine, but don’t continually rain on others’ parade.
Comment by GleeDemon — Nov 9, 2007 @ 12:14 pm
what the flying funk. uncharted demo locked for euro users. no skins in the euro store?
i was hoping it would improve, and that threespeech would finally post some criticism to SCEE.
but i might as well wait till cows can fly. the non inflatable ones
Comment by franky — Nov 9, 2007 @ 12:20 pm
Why don’t all the moaning twat’s just go and buy a Xbox and leave ths site alone, if you dont’ want content don’t buy it
Comment by Hayden — Nov 9, 2007 @ 12:20 pm
@Carl Crawford
1) it wasn’t region locked it was a bug
2) It isn’t on the EU store, only the US, which means you must have broken the user agreement you agreed to which states that you aren’t allowed to open accounts with the US store if you are a PAL user. Therefore you don’t have any reason to complain.

Great - my favourite PS3 game (Motorstorm) gets another update.
I’m happy again. May even download it at work this lunch time via my PSP and remote play so I can start playing it when I get home this evening.
What a good week for the PS3!
Comment by Dave Vincent — Nov 9, 2007 @ 12:23 pm
plus, i can start my ps3 downloads through my psp while stuck at work.
still, can’t wait for uncharted
Comment by Draxredd — Nov 9, 2007 @ 12:27 pm
If you don’t want it, don’t buy it. If you want it buy it. Seems simple enought to me yet some people just can’t help but moan.
Had a go at Tekken Online last night, got my ass kicked but still managed to get an Eu rank of 88. When i finish the original tracks on Motorstorm then i will purchase the extra ones provided for a nominal fee, it’s no big deal.
thanks guys and girls, have a good ‘un.
Comment by Si Doob — Nov 9, 2007 @ 12:43 pm
@ 13
It WAS region locked. The ‘bug’ was the message that some people get when they try and boot the game that asks them to insert a disk.
Comment by yawn — Nov 9, 2007 @ 12:47 pm
I’ll have some of that Motorstorm action thank you very much.
Comment by Dan (PSN-Detale) — Nov 9, 2007 @ 1:07 pm
@15 I’m sorry that is your attitude, people such as yourself are making it very difficult for the rest of us who are trying to get the industry to up it’s standards. By buying all the things they are selling you, you are giving them the green light to cut content and rush games out half finished then expect you to pay to fix bugs/include content which should have always been there.
Our “next gen” games are regularly lasting less than 10 hours and then weeks after launch extras appear on the store at costs of up to £5.
That amounts to quite a bit over a number of games and a number up updates/add ons.
By not stopping to question this you are aiding the games industry in ripping off it’s customers who are now paying more than ever for a piece uncomplete software. In my view that is totally unacceptable.
Comment by Ton Capone — Nov 9, 2007 @ 1:31 pm
So this is what it’s come to?
Weak releases on PSN and week by week, fans get more disappointed.
And…fans having to defend their extortionate console purchases by justifying demo bugs (Jenny) and claiming that restricting gamers to the Euro-PSN, that charges at least twice the price for downloads in contrast with the US, is justified (John).
Pathetic…This makes me NEVER want to come back to the ‘fold’ again.
Comment by Zed Zee — Nov 9, 2007 @ 1:32 pm
argh unchartered demo, region-locked, argh. Argh, PS Eye standalone camera is not out today as promised (with no announcement about its delay - double argh!). Well never mind. At least I have Ratchet and Clank to keep me busy!
Comment by reakt — Nov 9, 2007 @ 1:39 pm
About the camera (PS Eye) some retailers are stating 16 November as the new release date - can you confirm the release date please Three Speech? Thanks guys.

Re: Ton Capone.
I can understand your point regarding the ammount of data on the Blu-Ray discs but i feel it will be a while before we see anywhere near full capacity on the disc being used. I fail to see how agressive bitching will get the industry to change it’s standards. I’m not having a go at you but it’s like my original post said: if you want the content then get it, If you don’t then don’t. In most cases these are extra’s which they provide after the final game has been released, it is up to the user to decide whether to buy it or not. As far as i’m aware I don’t think there are any patches which you have to pay for.
Go on live a little, i dare you to buy something from the store! Take it easy.

@ 25 - Alright cheeky
- will do my best on ps3 eye info.
Comment by Three Speech — Nov 9, 2007 @ 2:37 pm
@Ton - I don’t buy all the things that are thrown at me at all! Where did you come up with that one? I’m very sensible with my purchases. I’ve bought about 3 things off the PSN so far and most to do with Motorstorm as it’s a game I like very much and a game I’m happy to keep on playing and very happy that the publisher is keen to expand on it. I don’t think for one minute that this extra content should have been included in the first place. Far from it, the publisher is rewarding customers that have bought the game and thus lined their pockets by providing extra content after the game originally shipped. I don’t expect them to give these things away for free - it’s how they make their money and I choose to give some of mine to them occasionally. What annoys me more is publishers like EA and Konami that churn out the same game year after year (e.g. FIFA, PES, F1 etc) and expect the consumer to pay FULL PRICE each time, when the games hardly differ year after year save a few name changes. In fact the Motorstorm guys are doing the correct thing in rolling out improvements at a ridiculously low price. They could have in fact kept these two new tracks, all the new vehicles etc. and released Motorstorm 2 at Xmas for full price. And incidentally I’ve certainly spent more than 10 hours playing Motorstorm without the extras so not for one minute do I believe I’ve been ripped off.
As for the other content on the store, if it doesn’t appeal to me I don’t buy. Like Warhawk for example, many people seem to love this but it doesn’t appeal to me. So I haven’t bought it/won’t buy it. It doesn’t mean though that if one week the PSN is full of Warhawk downloads that I’m going to come on this site and start bitching and mouthing off about it.
Why don’t you get off your high horse and actually just enjoy this console for what it is i.e. a games machine/entertainment hub (Entertainment being the KEY word there…) rather than keep slagging it off all the time and bitching about anyone that happens to be satisfied with it? If you don’t want something then no-one is forcing you to buy anything from the store. I don’t understand what people from you actually want from this console or any console because whenever anything happens that might please someone you just seem to bitch and moan. If you don’t like high prices DON’T BUY. Just because you may not be getting what you want one day does not mean that many millions of other people aren’t getting what they want. No-one has a gun to your head and forcing you to buy anything ever. If you can’t afford the console why did you buy one in the first place?
Comment by Dave Vincent — Nov 9, 2007 @ 2:40 pm
Ok threespeech, one more chance!
Just getting fed up with all the slippages and lack of communication from sony and it’s suppliers.
Comment by Dan (BBRodriguez) — Nov 9, 2007 @ 2:54 pm
I could quite comfortably afford all three consoles as I earn a decent wage and have substantial savings.
I guess gaming is just not for me anymore as it has taken a drastic turn for the worse and there is something malevolent, almost evil about the whole industry now.
Farewell cruel passtime.
Comment by Ton Capone — Nov 9, 2007 @ 3:07 pm
@Zed Zee
It is justified because every user, to be able to access the store has entered a legally binding contract by agreeing to the user agreement. If they haven’t read it, or choose to ignore it, then that is their own fault. They can’t complain about something being broken which they have agreed not to access in the first place.
If I take out a contract with a phone company, and sign a contract which forbids me from unlocking it for other networks, then do it anyway I don’t have a leg to stand on if something doesn’t work.
Comment by John — Nov 9, 2007 @ 3:10 pm
SCEE need to examine why people need to set up USA and japan accounts- its because we in Europe get treated in sucha third rate that they think is acceptable. The region locking of the uncharted demo was an utter disgrace and I will be purchasing that game pre-owned so that sony and naughty dog do not see a penny of my money. SCEE with all its lies and broken promises and delays has totally alienated its user base that sony has already ripped off in its prices anyway. Week after week the thursday updates are an insult to us Europeans. Demos come to us up to 3 weeks later than America when on Xbox live 99% ofthe demos get released globally on the same day. I am sick to death of waiting for stuff like the dreaded blast factor advanced bloody research add on ..lies lies and more unending lies from SCEE every single week.

When I d/dled the demo for GRAW 2 I didnt intend to buy the game but after playing the demo (US store released first) I bought it. No matter how hyped this drake shit is I’m not getting it. Why? because clearly they dont want other regions playing *gasp* a demo of the game.
Week in week out people complain and moan. The answer? boycott the products/games you think are screwing up over.
I’m sure I’ll get the answer of “its a good game I want the demo blah blah blah” They havent given us the demo so dont buy the game.
Oh and ThreeSpeech. Why are you such tools? seriously the US blog has the balls to answer to the fans you obvioulsy dont. Whether its through stupidity/ignorance or the fact that the bastards and Sony EUROPE yes EUROPE dont allow you to talk I dont know.
Also why not make a second EU store? the UK should have an independant store. I dont care if the continetal bastards speak french german or spanish. English is the language of the modern world. Fucking Eurocrats.

My PS3 is currently doing what it does best - gathering dust. I did download the PS3’s 2.0 firmware update and was briefly amused at the way I could group my games by “album title” (nice QA there Sony), but I finally gave in a couple of weeks ago and bought an Xbox 360, which craps all over it from a great height.
The same games have better graphics (especially anything from EA or Ubisoft), the games are released earlier, I can talk to my friends while playing online without having to spend extra money on a Bluetooth headset… and I actually know people who own Xbox 360s (I don’t know a single person that owns a PS3), there’s better content available in Xbox Live Arcade than Sony’s equivalent… heck, I can even play Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - a classic PlayStation 1 title that is curiously missing from the UK PSN store.
Suddenly, I no longer care about Ratchet and Clank (which Gamespot gave 7 out of 10) or Drake’s Fortune (which looks more and more like the bastard lovechild of Tomb Raider and Gears of War) or any of those other games that were supposed to be released this month but have now been indefinitely postponed to 2008.

uhm, what happened to the tekken online upgrade ??? was it only online for 3-4 days ? would be a shame, cause i definetly won’t pay 20€ for a game i already have (in some parts)
Comment by DavidBoring — Nov 12, 2007 @ 7:17 pm
@ “John” (31):
If you’re happy following what’s fed to you, then that’s fine. There’s no need to defend something that is already in charge of what you’re fed. It shows unwarranted blind loyalty from you.
What is being talked about is the amount of restrictions that Sony is imposing and the UNFAIRNESS of charging UK/Euro customers MORE than their US/Jap counterparts for downloads and on-line games.
Couple that with the fact that ALL releases on the UK/Euro PSN seem to get delayed and things are released weeks/months after the US/Jap PSNs, really makes the case for PSN to be more open even more of a necessity.
That’s why people are resorting to desperate measures and creating dummy US PSN accounts.
