Quick news from Capcom with an annoucement at Gamers Day in London. Lost Planet will be available early next year and will include all bonus characters from the PC version and extra downloadable content from the 360 version, making it the complete game. It will have 16 player gaming online over the PSN. Are Capcom now redeeming themselves after the Monster Hunter situation? More to follow…

Redeeming themselves? With a game as old (and average) as Lost Planet?
Hmmm… not really.
But if they go on to announce that Street Fighter 4 is a PS3 exclusive… well, then we’re talking!
Comment by Tony — Oct 17, 2007 @ 6:23 pm
Lost Planet is an old and pretty average game. So the answer is a big fat no.
Comment by Benny — Oct 17, 2007 @ 6:24 pm
I want dead rising WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WAAAAAAAAAAAA, or Breath of fire 6 PS3 exclusive.
Comment by Carl Crawford — Oct 17, 2007 @ 6:39 pm
lost planet was nothing speical… nothing to be excited about
Comment by Ricky — Oct 17, 2007 @ 6:46 pm
Woooo another 360 port, thanks Capcom…
Comment by Terry — Oct 17, 2007 @ 7:05 pm
Swing and a miss.
Capcom said PS3 owners would be happy come the end of this week. Looks like they lied about that as well. Street Fighter 4 is promising but that’s if it’s still 2D and I’m wondering if they’ll get UDON to do the sprites. Otherwise, Capcom is still in the ground for me.
Comment by Zaku — Oct 17, 2007 @ 7:05 pm
How exactly are they redeeming themselves? They’re porting a game to the Ps3, and making Street Fighter IV. I wonder if it’s gonna be the same old stuff.
Comment by tears of ash — Oct 17, 2007 @ 7:08 pm
Absolutely not! I can play this shoddy, average and boring game on the 360.
Comment by darkjedi — Oct 17, 2007 @ 7:10 pm
As someone else said I’d rather have Resident Evils 1 & 2 as PS1 classics…
Comment by Terry — Oct 17, 2007 @ 7:10 pm
Well while Lost Planet might not be a great game I think you need to consider that they are trying to redeem the loss of Monster Hunter. The threshold for redeeming such a uninteresting game shouldn’t be very high, so maybe even Lost Planet succeeds
. I mean even just offering a new wallpaper in PSN would probably be enough to compensate for the loss of Monster Hunter
Comment by Christian — Oct 17, 2007 @ 7:29 pm
updated news:
Virtua fighter 4, will be released more than a year away (prob the same time as Singstar & Home)
Dark Void: no time mentioned as release date and
the “just another shooter” Lost Planet, coming somewhere next year….
wauw, this really blew me socks of.. NOT…
Delaystation 3, where all the good games are delayed or can be purchased months in advance on other consoles…..
Comment by Darkie — Oct 17, 2007 @ 7:38 pm
Lost Planet, isn`t that of a great game and a year later, no thank you. Lost Planet 2, now that would be something.
Dark Void, Multi so ok!
Street fighter IV, amazing news but not a PS3 exclusive so, what does Capcom wants to offer to the PS3 fans?…..nothing!
How does this compensates Monster Hunter III and makes us think differently abou them?
Comment by GabranthPT — Oct 17, 2007 @ 7:43 pm
Lost Planet port = they havent make any money on the 360/pc version. Let see if we can take some money from ps3 users…
No way capcom No way!!!!! IF YOU WANT THE PS3 TO SELL MORE DONT GIVE US OLD PORT GAMES!!!
Comment by connyg — Oct 17, 2007 @ 8:28 pm
would have been nice if you guys give credit to the person who emailed you with the heads up but i guess you didnt feel the need to.
Comment by Peter — Oct 17, 2007 @ 8:33 pm
So, let me get this straight.
DelayStation3 loses out completely on a game that used to be an exclusive (Monster Hunter - I’ve never played it, so I can’t comment on how big a loss it is, but never the less and judging from the posts here and elsewhere, it is a big enough loss) and in return, DS3 owners (not me, noooo, I’m far too clever to fall for this Sony disaster) get something that was “out a year ago”, was “not that great”, is “shoddy”, will be an “X360 port”, also a “PC port”, is “nothing special” and is “average” to play?!
Did I miss anything?
I ask you Sony: Have you guys still got one brain cell left between you or did you lose them all while trying to launch the DelayStation3?
You can paint a house with glossy paint and all that, but if it’s in a sh*tty area…
Comment by Zed Zee — Oct 17, 2007 @ 8:44 pm
I actually really wanted to play Lost Planet, but it was only on 360.
Doesnt the 360 box say “ONLY FOR XBOX” at the top?
Comment by Reza — Oct 17, 2007 @ 9:15 pm
Redemed themslves they are digging a large whole for themselves.
No one is honestly going to buy a 1 year old game that is a coversion of XBOX 360 to PC to PS3 especially after the whole MH3 debacle.
Lost Planet was average at best and quite frankly Capcom need to get back to reality before they do nothing else but release endless sequals with little to new ideas.
Capcom are no longer the gaming giant they once where.
Comment by Ali — Oct 17, 2007 @ 10:11 pm
I love how the internet works!
The PS3 “loses” an exclusive, even if it’s an average/unproven/crap game or even if it was never going to be a exclusive to start with, and suddenly it’s all over the net with tales of woe for Sony, how it’s another nail in the coffin, how it is doomed to fail, how it is the biggest disaster for the PS3 to date.
But when the 360 “loses” an exclusive it’s no big deal regardless of the game, hell some even try to make it out to be a NEGATIVE news story for the PS3!
Now from what I remember Microsoft advertised the hell out of this title, in the UK the advert was shown loads of times (like Halo 3, Gears of War, PGR4 etc), it formed a good portion of their advertising campaign. That to me makes this count as a significant “loss” to the 360, more significant at least than some of the non-event stories that feature on blogs when it’s Sony on the receiving end.
The same thing happened with Oblivion, when it was a 360 exclusive it was a must own console war winning title, but when it was announced for the PS3, the response from the XBots was “meh whatever, it wasn’t that good anyway”.
Gamespot give LP 8.1 (8.4 from users) and Metacritic averages it at 79, so while it may not be Gears of War, it’s hardly a throwaway franchise or some crappy low budget game. It’s actually one of the very few 360 titles that interested me when it came out (though granted Dead Rising on the PS3 would be cool!).
I remember when Devil May Cry 4 went multiplatform one of 360’s “semi-official” blogs was arrogant enough to post a check list with DMC4 crossed off and FFXIII and MGS4 etc underneath it.
Maybe ThreeSpeech should do a list with Obvilion and Lost Planet crossed off, with Mass Effect, PGR, and Gears of War on it! I know you shouldn’t feed the trolls, but just for a laugh! lol
TBH I’m actually impressed by this negative response. If was the other way around and it was going from PS3 to 360, XBot blogs all over the net would be gloating, and comment posters would be saying what a big loss it was, how great the game is, how they’re glad Capcom saw the light.
At least PS3 owners are less insecure and honest enough to say, you know what I didn’t think this game was all that good when it was on the 360, so I don’t really care it’s coming to PS3. It’s an example of why I prefer the attitudes of PS3 “fans” to 360 “fans”, although I do suspect half the responses above are from XBots!
Comment by Apnomis — Oct 17, 2007 @ 10:32 pm
yeah they redeemed thierselves….not!
not only give MHF to wii now thier doing an exclusive port of okami, i think thier too hooked up on wii to give a damn about any other console lost planet is a old game and no matter how you dress it up its still the same old game, also street fighter 4 will be exactley the same with some new graphics whoop-de-doo!!
i was expecting at least a new game not some shoddy old ports (which they will probably be).

A little off topic but is anyone here going to the London Games Festival next week? Are Sony doing anything special there?
Comment by Savage — Oct 17, 2007 @ 11:47 pm
The game looked vaguely interesting to me on the 360, at least i can rent it when it comes out now and give it a shot.
Comment by Josh — Oct 18, 2007 @ 12:19 am
They need to announce exclusives for PS3, not crappy ports. Oh well, at least us PS3 owners can say that the 360 lost another exclusive.
Comment by Dehshizknight — Oct 18, 2007 @ 1:21 am
Anyone remember the Famitsu rumor about Sony funding a third party game that would ‘turn the tides’? Could it be the long awaited Street Fighter IV? Wishful thinking.
Anyways, it’s something to think about as far as their PS3 announcement goes. Was the countdown theme for the PS3 announcement or just the main theme for them that had the PS3 announcement thrown in? I mean, the theme of the countdown points towards SFIV over Lost Planet (the planet in the background is found on the SF official site and ‘Prepare Yourself’ is at the end of the teaser).
Comment by Zaku — Oct 18, 2007 @ 3:50 am
if Capcom want to redeem themselves they should put Samurai Shodown up on the PSN, forget SFIV:HD or whatever, just give us the original classics to play again. good orginal classics unlike that god awful Wipeout - man i didn’t rate that when it first came out, that didn’t age very well at all, worth getting for the killer soundtrack though. i know capcom didn’t do wipeout, it was an example of how to get things wrong.

@ Apnomis:
“I find your lack of [logic] disturbing”.
You have to remember that Lost Planet is ALREADY OUT for X360 whereas Monster Hunter, regardless of whether it’s a good game or not (never the less, the PS3 cannot AFFORD to be losing ANY game series right now), has been in the Sony stable for some time and MH3 has now been lost.
Add to that, Capcom are not saying that they will release MH3 for the PS3 sometime later, they’ve just said it’s going elsewhere. Even if they did, it will probably get the same backlash as this pathetic attempt with Lost Planet.
So, with that in mind (are you focusing?), how can losing MH3 be compared with something that’s already out a year on X360?
At best, it’s a port and judging from what multi-platform owners are saying, it’s not a good one at that.
Damn…some people out there are so dumb!

respect to Apnomis who really stated it right. Everyone is bitching around and acting as if it’s a big thing. I mean 90% of you guys haven’t even played the game or even heard of it. Now if some guy starts to talk about what an disaster it is… everyone follows with the same arguments…. well Apnomis you got it right my man …. I think everyone really should read that long post he made to get their facts right.
and BTW i really would love to see that checklist
Comment by TimoTheThug — Oct 18, 2007 @ 10:54 am
@ moonmonkey, to be fair Okami is like a ready made port for the Wii, a developer with a game that is controlled by drawing on the screen would be foolish not to consider a Wii port!
@ Zed Zee, I never mentioned Monster Hunter once in my reply, so I’m not sure what you’re going on about? I’m just pointing out the general bias to the 360 on news stories on the net, whether it’s crappy hardware or lost exclusives mud just doesn’t stick to the the 360, but if someone from Sony farts too loudly it’s the biggest story ever.
Also I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re one of the XBots I was talking about. Do you own a PS3? I only ask because I’m yet to see a single positive response posted by you in this site. For example to the news of the 178% sales increase you reply “So that’s 178 units sold, at last, then” and you continually refer to the PS3 as the “DelayStation”, smells like a 360 fanboy response to me… have you got nothing better to do?
Comment by Apnomis — Oct 18, 2007 @ 11:15 am
@ Apnomis:
Have you got better nothing to do than stalk my posts on here and (I sincerely hope not) elsewhere?!
I’m not an XBot, no. I don’t and never have owned anything to do with the XBox brand. I own a PS2 but I’ve been extremely disappointed with the way that Fony (sorry, I mean Sony) has handled the PlayStation3 (see? I can be nice!)
I’m really bitter with the way the European PlayStation loyal fans (call me a PS fanboy, I don’t mind that at all) have been treated.
What with the most expensive prices on the planet (now even more so that the 40GB has been confirmed for the US - only, wait, it’s £100 less expensive!), the launch delay itself, controllers that will eventually be phased out (to bring in the DualShock3), SKU mayhem/confusion and the unfortunate decision to take out backwards compatibility from the cheapo model.
Whether it’s MH3 or other titles, the PlayStation brand simply CANNOT haemorrhage any more exclusive titles right now, regardless of how crap they may or may not be.
The reason that Sony are having such a hard time with every move they make is because every move they make seems like one disaster after another.
Microsoft must be laughing, they’ve got a sound and strong strategy - never mind if it lasts only so long or even gets beaten eventually by the PS3 sales. It simply feels like they know what they’re doing, whereas Sony have been arrogant, overtly strategic (with BluRay) and downright dictatorial to say “PS3 gamers don’t want to play PS2 games on it”.
I simply refuse to subscribe to any of their notions and decisions. I refuse to buy a crippled machine or pay a premium for something that has not made huge market inroads yet (BluRay) and at best relies on other technologies to use it (an HDTV and a decent sound system), unlike DVD which required nothing more to make full use of it.
Believe me, there was nothing I would’ve wanted more than to part with (say) £350 for a 80GB model on launch day on that fateful day, back in November 2006.
But that did not happen, did it? It didn’t launch then and the rest is history…
Comment by Zed Zee — Oct 18, 2007 @ 12:12 pm

Just buy a PS3 you tight arse, then you might be qualified and a bit more informed about the PS3 when you leave posts on this PS3 site.

I agree with pretty much everything apnomis said.
Other than that, I personally didn’t care about MH3 or DMC, I don’t care for Lost Planet, and I don’t care for the Street Fighter games either.
The ONLY thing that would impress me is to hear that Resident Evil 5 is PS3 exclusive - it’s the only Capcom title I have any interest in at all.
Comment by Paranoimia — Oct 18, 2007 @ 12:45 pm
My third 360 died just before Lost Planet came out so I’m actually looking forward to playing it on PS3.
But as for this being an announcement supposed to make PS3 fans forget the loss of MH3, no, I don’t think so. MH3 would sell 1 million copies in Japan, LP will sell less than 100k.

@Zed Zee
While the decision to go with Blu-Ray have initially come with downsides in the form of delaying the launch of the PS3 by quite a lot and increasing the price of the console, I think it was a wise decision of Sony and it will be beneficial for us as consumers too.
More and more game makers are coming out and saying that one DVD is to little to store all the new HD content that is in games and I think we will see more and more titles coming out with extra levels, improved textures and things like this on the PS3 over the coming year. Multiple DVD’s is simply not an option for a lot of games and considering you are sitting in your living room sofa playing you don’t want to have to run over to you console on a regular basis to change DVD’s as you progress in a game.
And while the PS3 hasn’t conquered the gaming console market yet, the fact that every box comes with a Blu-Ray player has basically settled the HD movie format war in Blu-Ray’s favour. Which means that consumers can now go out and buy Blu-Ray movies for their HD TV’s without worrying about wether Blu-Ray or HD-DVD will be the standard, Blu-Ray has won.
That Sony also choose to bundle Blu-Ray and include a HDMI port on the box has also helped kickstart the HD TV market and as volume goes up, price goes down. Meaning that you will be able to get a HD TV cheaper over the next few years than you would if Sony had chosen the path of the Xbox and only support the old DVD format and not have HDMI as standard.
So when more and more of us are able to enjoy HD movies and HD 1080p games in our homes over the coming years that is because of the gamble Sony took with the PS3 by bundling it with Blu-Ray and also taking the high risk move of developing and using a revolutionary CPU architecture.
They could have taken the ’safe’ route and just incremented with the technologies used in the PS2, like Microsoft did with the XBox360. But honestly I think while the start has been a bit painful I am happy they chose to make the PS3 instead of a PS2.5 which is essentially what the XBox360 is an equivalent of.
Comment by Christian — Oct 18, 2007 @ 1:16 pm
Lost Planet was a decent single player game and a great mulitplayer.
The only downside to it was the bad lag you often got, PS3 shouldn’t suffer this problem as the online just seems more solid than LIVE imo and so it should make a great game. Lets hope it’s not just a lazy port though.
Comment by dan — Oct 18, 2007 @ 1:55 pm
Sorry, originally posted this on the wrong topic…anyway Hello all, this is my first post to Threespeech…so be gentle!
Over the past few months I have watched with interest the delays regarding PS3 games, from which I can only draw one conclusion.
First however, let me give you a little information on my background as it has a bearing on the opinion I’ve formed. For a fair number of years I worked at a company that developed remote comms software for hand-held devices [PDA’s, barcode scanners etc., and at that time we were among the top three players in the world.
Now, without boring you with details, you ideally strive to write the best software for the best platform[s] out there. The reality however is somewhat different. What often happens, not surprisingly, is you end up developing on the platform with the best manufacturer support. This support can take many forms, software development tools, training, free hardware etc. However, as we all know, the best kind of “development tools” are the ones you can bank.
As a PS3 [as well as 360] owner I have become increasingly alarmed at these game delays, or more accurately, the actual length of these delays. If it were months instead of the usual few weeks, I would be more inclined to believe the delays were simply developmental issues on what is, after all, a new platform, but it simply doesn’t ring true. To hold up a game for three of four weeks [coincidently, just long enough for consumer demand to wane] from a development perspective makes no sense, hell, it used to take us that long to decide whose turn is was to make the coffee, never mind fix anything.
If I were Sony I would be extremely concerned in both the short and long term. To my knowledge no market, and ultimately consumer, has ever benefited from Microsoft’s entry in to it, as Apple, IBM, Netscape, Novell et al can testify. Microsoft do not compete. They Imitate, Assimilate and Eradicate, they certainly do not Tolerate.
Some people reading this may think I’m some kind of Sony fanboy but they would be wrong. I have no allegiance to them or any other company, why should I? Indeed, if Sony had Microsoft’s effectively limitless coffers, I’m sure they would behave in a remarkably similar fashion. But they haven’t. The reality is they face the most ruthless company in the world, who do not lose.
Ultimately it is not just Sony who will lose, but every gamer.
I read the other day a Microsoft spokesman saying there was “enough room for everyone” in the console market.
I’m sure Julius Caesar heard something similar from Brutus just before he hit the deck….

*grabs everyone by the neck*
Listen for I am JohnSketch -
My opinion is as stated:
If you want to play a game, play it
If you want to buy a console, buy it
if you want to defend your purchase using your well earned cash - DEFEND IT !
But…
Keep it civil….Keep it cute….Keep it cool!
—
Having played Lost planet on my 360 but never purchasing it, may be tempted to have a look at this PS3 version, it may well be that if they are touting this as a “gift” to playstation3 owners -
Updated engine?
Refined graphics?
Bonus missions?
Maybe even an expansion for the single player story.
Odds are none of this will happen but you can at least say that what with Halo3 done and dusted and the 360 showing off its most technologically advanced games (or near to) this coming winter: mass effect definitely in that list!
You compare the visual fidelity to a game like that, or gears or Halo e.t.c. - look at the time it took to create them/time the parent console has been out - 2005 in this case.
Now equally look at Playstation3 titles Heavenly Sword, Folklore, Ratchet - hell even Resistance: Fall of Man. You’ll notice that whether by design or my bad eye-sight: Visual fidelity has equally or possibly in Heavenly Swords case - surpassed that of the 360’s highest hitters.
This is merely an opinion on my own observation: The 360 beginning to show its age when compared to the hardware contained within the PS3. When PS3 developmers get to grips on equal footing with those for 360 - you’ll notice games being graphically upped for PS3 and possibly even downgraded for 360. - this is all assumption and opinion of course.
Just something to think about when you hear 360 owners going FanBoy on a PS3 owner - let them say there version is better in 1/2 years time, it may well shut them up when they can’t have uncompressed textures on there DVD, they can’t use the Hard Drive for caching and they can’t enjoy those beautiful in-game extras of development films and documentaries because they’ve used up all 9GB of there disk format for geometry and level data.
I worked to purchase my consoles, I own all of the so-called “next gen” platforms - and am in no way a fan boy.
Just a thought
Comment by JohnSketch — Oct 18, 2007 @ 3:57 pm
Didn’t Capcom say to PS3 fans ‘wait till the end of the week and we’ll see how they think about us’ Well Lost Planet? FOR ***** SAKE. I Have had enough.
You close Clover Studios, the maker of God Hand and award winning Okami for PS2, in other words you shut down a studio producing quality titles for PS2.
You gave Devil May Cry 4 to Xbox 360 as well, and to a lesser extent Resident Evil 5, you gave them exclusives like Deadrising, and lastly
Monster Hunter 3 on Wii? Where’s the PS3 version?
You give us a lousy nearly two year old game?????
Goddam it Capcom, you used to be a good guy.
And I hear Namco Bandai doing the same, my god.
Ace Combat was a great series for PS2 and so was Katamari. Look where they are now. On the 360.
I just hope they don’t touch Tekken 6.
Comment by Jagz — Oct 18, 2007 @ 4:02 pm
Just another thought Jon, I’d rather have the game a year earlier than have a few extra bonus missions and a more shiny gloss a year later ..
Comment by GIANT ENEMY CRAB — Oct 18, 2007 @ 4:02 pm
@48 - Isn’t Ace combat 6 touted for release to PS3 albeit a “timed-exclusive” for 360
@49 - Patience, once the 360 “WELL” of Hardware Resources dries up, the latest and greatest apps will premier on PS3 - if not to show off the greatest visual fidelity that can be accomplished within this Generation of Consoles - remember unlike Microsoft, Sony doesn’t have Billions upon Billions of Pounds to throw at developers to keep them exclusive. What they “DO” have though is the brand image.
New purchasers of consoles will look on the shelves and see Lost Planet 360 and then see Lost Planet PS3 (with added levels/making of documentaries/shinier graphics)
Who cares about what was released - the console generation has only “JUST” begun! so new folk buying into it will 9/10 get the better version for there money.
Something to think about.

Hate to say it, but by the time ps5 is out, sony should be winning again, going by ninty stats. Anyway I see the main problem being the 360-ps3 split while the wii sidesteps all this.
M$ isn’t good for any market though. Thank Europe for anti monopoly rules, M$ office on MAC…

@ Jagz: I agree with your comments and as I’ve said before, Sony’s strategy for PS3 has been abysmal.
I love Ace Combat and I’ve got ALL the PS1, PS2 and PSP versions (I love the PSP version) but now I can’t play it any more, can I?
@ JohnSketch:
Lost Planet for PS3 is a straight port of the X360 and PC versions - it amalgamates the missions and stuff like that from both versions.
Considering this is Capcom’s first engine code for the PS3, then I’d say don’t expect anything spectacularly special about it.
As for the X360 DVD limitation (and remember, I do not own a X360) - technically speaking, after you consider that you can compress all the data on a 8.5GB dual layer/single-sided DVD (gets you up to a conservative 12GB - depending on the algorithm), if this is still not enough, Microsoft have the ability to provide latter game levels free on-line.
Developers will simply write the game with as many levels as they can on the DVD and, if you have a broadband connection to XBL, the game will simply stream the latter levels and store them on the HDD.
If you don’t have XBL, tough, you will play a shorter version of the game. If you don’t have an HDD, well, now’s your chance to upgrade to one. Microsoft will force fans’ hands, simple as that!
These techniques are not far-fetched and with today’s broadband technology, are certainly achievable.
Generally speaking, I really don’t see this as a problem but I do APPRECIATE that Sony have a better console design than Microsoft and I WHOLEHEARTEDLY (really) want them to succeed.
I just don’t like their marketing decisions for the PS3 and I certainly do NOT appreciate their treatment of UK/European LOYAL fan base; I don’t need to reiterate my gripes, if you care to read previous posts, I’m sure you’ll get the picture.
Much like other people on here who seem to have conspiracy theories about Microsoft (Shab), and that’s a completely different topic which I do not wish to dilute this blog with, I refuse to accept the treatment of the PS fan base by the very corporation who’s console we’ve grown up with, loved and supported for the last two generations.
Sony should not be afraid of its own success in this market. They should look back with pride on 2 previous successful generations of achievements, treat customers with respect (worldwide release in all territories as promised, fair pricing - I’d settle for more value for my money - for UK/Europe, fantastic games on release day OR simply wait until it can be achieved) and say to themselves: WHO THE F*CK DO THESE TW*TS MICROSOFT THINK THEY ARE? WE DICTATE WHEN NEXGEN STARTS, NOT THEM OR ANYONE ELSE!!
Now that’s confidence (even arrogance) that I’d wholeheartedly support…
…Over & Out.
