Over at the Playstation US blog they have posted that PlayStation 3 users have made a massive contribution to the Folding project with their aggregated computation power, having now contributed over a petaflops of data in the quest for research into medical science and diseases.

Meanwhile, over at engadget you can read how IBM have worked with PlayStation 3 Cell processors to donate a supercomputer to the University of Maryland-Baltimore county. Using 32 Cell processors researchers are working to develop applications to harness that power. As they report “the supercomputer will dabble in visualization and computer modeling applications for aerospace / defense, financial services, healthcare / life sciences industries and weather.” Amazing.
