On Friday, Sierra Entertainment announced a new game called Prototype. Developed by Radical Entertainment, the game is set in New York and follows the story of Alex Mercer – who was part of a genetic experiment that went wrong. Since the experiment, Alex develops “shapeshifting” powers that enable him to take the shape, form and abilities of anyone by absorbing their DNA – which involves killing them.
According to the press release, it will be a “completely new kind of open world game” - and it’s set for release in Summer 2008. Here’s some screenshots for you…

Very exciting, though i’ll reserve judgement until some real in game screenshots.
I must say though that Free Radical haven’t let me down yet! I hope the promise of a “completely new kind of open world game” will ring true.
Shame it’s not a PS3 exclusive, Sony could use this sort of thing right now. It will certainly need something decent to make me buy it over the 360 version. Microsoft has already got my money on GTA IV.

This is not an exclusive? what a suprise!

I’m buying GTA IV for the 360 too, heard that it will have 2 exclusive levels, thats me sold!

Well, if you’re getting the 360 version of GTA IV, I hope you don’t have the Core version, because it looks like the game will require a hard drive. That seems to be the reason the game is delayed until next year.
Comment by Chris — Aug 14, 2007 @ 3:46 pm
Don’t get sucked in people, wait until a playable demo becomes available as especially with it not being PS3 exclusive there is no chance that these are in-game screens. Probably those representative of gameplay doobries they keep flinging about in order to entice in the more gullable in society.
Comment by Ton Capone — Aug 14, 2007 @ 4:06 pm
@chris
that is not the reason why it has been delayed…the only thing you will need a hard drive for on GTA 4 is the exclusive content that will be downloadable later on…and you dont need the downloadable stuff to play GTA4
Comment by metallicorphan — Aug 14, 2007 @ 4:15 pm
Hilarious, how could the GTA IV delay be because the 360 version requires a HDD? Why would that delay the PS3 version?
But yeah i have a hard drive, i don’t think you can enjoy the xbox live experience without it.

Hi Arthur!
I think your a freaking fag, you and your xbox should gtfo of here plz.
-reading your posts is like having the smell of ass taped under your nose.
“Microsoft has already got my money on GTA IV.”
How do you know that is the better version? making desicions before looking?
retard?
i bet if you made a survey about IQ/console the xbots would definately score lowest.
No one in their right mind would ever support xbox or microshit. read up on how they try to destroy the open-source community.
Comment by Whazpoppin? — Aug 14, 2007 @ 6:24 pm
Aha brilliant.
It’s a shame that I was saying only earlier that i come here because the degenerates aren’t here. Looks like they’ve finally found it.
Do i reply? Well i already have havent i? May as well make it worthwhile.
I’m not a gay, sorry about that. You’ll have to go hunting round on google for bum fun tonight my friend. We’re all rooting for you.
How did you manage to get someone’s bottom taped to your face? Please post some pictures of this on your PS3 fanboy blog for us all to see.
Next… Microsoft have my money on GTA IV because of the continuing narrative through downloadable content. That is what interests me the most. I have read preview after preview, all the news i can lay my hands on. I loved reading through the CVG hands on sections. Marvelous stuff. Convinced me that in order to get the most out of the game i’ll need to get the 360 version. So yes I did look before I did make my decision. MY decision. A decision based on weighing up what each version will do for me, not simply buying a version because I prefer a console.
Having each of the different consoles allows me to make that mature decision. I’m not some Sony hugging fool, and I dont support Microsoft. I buy what I want. I play what i want.
Unfortunately you are not mature in any sense and have fallen under the same spell as many others have before you. Please appreciate other people’s decision making abilities, and that other people don’t immediately side with one company over another.
I can’t understand much more of your comment, and i’m not sure what survey you’re talking about. Its strange. However on the topic of supporting Microsoft and their intent on destroying open source please make sure you read up about what you think you’re talking about first.
Thankyou sir.

@8 - Why would that delay the PS3 version?
Because of the fact that the publisher has agreed with both Sony and Micro$oft that the game is to be launched on the same date on all platforms. If one version gets delayed for any reason then the other version has to as well or the agreement gets broken and Rockstar get sued…

Xbox fans, boys, and girls please don’t go off-topic. Who comes on a PS3 site and starts talking about the 360 version of GTA? Anyways… I will be keeping my eye on this game and like someone else said, wait for the real in-game screenshots/videos.
Comment by Rob — Aug 15, 2007 @ 10:33 am
You can talk about what you want wherever you want. I simply compared this game to GTA IV and said that Sony needs to do something to make their version a worthwhile buy. Simple really.
Bob, I dont remember reading that anywhere. Did you make it up? I’m betting that you did.

@13
Well clearly (just like the rest of us) you don’t read every article on every site, because one google search for ‘GTA IV delay’ shows that this is mentioned several times. Many of the articles focus on the PS3 being the cause for the delay (and not the XB needing the HD) so whilst the truth about the reason for the delay remains a mystery, the fact that there seems to be a contractual obligation that Rockstar/Take 2 won’t favour one or the other does appear entirely valid.
Incidentally if the PS3 is the reason for the delay, that itself may be a good thing because it means the PS3 won’t get some dodgy XB port that doesn’t run as well and in fact the writers are using more of the potential of the PS3 sooner. I’m fed up with writers being lazy and just porting over rubbish just to make a quick buck. They may complain the PS3 is harder to write for - well if that’s the case, it more than likely means it’s better and more features to understand.
Off th topic I know - so back 2 Prototype. From the pictures and the brief description, I would say this definitely looks like one to keep an eye on and look out for around launch time. Then I’ll check the reviews, hopefully a demo on PSN and then decide to buy or not. But it certainly sounds more interesting than the XB ports that are talked about.
Comment by Bob — Aug 15, 2007 @ 11:42 am
Standing applause for Bob then, you managed to use google!
You know you won’t be getting some shoddy port on the PS3, remember this is Rockstar! A console being harder to program for doesnt make it better! Look at the Wii!
I was following the comment about the HDD being the reason for the delay, not that the game was delayed on both platforms due to a contractual agreement.
Glad that you like the look of Prototype though, I like that we’re all starting to “hope” for demos to appear on the PSN now. I dont understand what you mean by XB ports.

first off someone was right when they said rockstar has a contract to release the game on the same day… second i have both 360 and ps3 now if youve read up enough on the game youlll see rockstar has complained alot about the 360 version due to its own limitations and lack of space… another where have you seen a preview build of the 360 version as all in games previews have been on the ps3… third the game was delayed as i read someone due to some problems on the 360 version so guess what ps3 wont get out untill the 360 version its done… like i said i have both systems but some games need to stay where they belong gta well it belongs on playstation and i can guarantee that if rockstar would have kept the game exclusive we would be getting it on time… also in my opinion for bill gates to pay that much for downloadable content hes trying to compensate for something and who said the content was gonna be good or worth the money… SOME GAMES NEED TO STAY WHERE THEY BELONG… no matter what gta will be purchased for my ps3 not 360 this game and devil may cry 4

Oh yeah! I didn’t realise that! Thanks for pointing that out. Hmmm, the only things i’ve played of theirs are their racing games.
I hope that given something different to work on they’ll start to shine as a developer.

“youve read up enough on the game youlll see rockstar has complained alot about the 360 version due to its own limitations and lack of space”
hmmm actually if you read up enough yourself you’ll see that it wasn’t rockstar complaining at all, it was just a load of internet rubbish cooked up by some xbox haters
The 360 build has been previewed by several sites - even some official ones!
NO it wasnt delayed because of 360 problems, that is rubbish!!! YOU can’t guarentee that if Rockstar was making it solely for the PS3 that you’d be getting it on time, thats insane! You could argue that if it was being made for the PS3 then you’d be getting it on time because Rockstar would have announced 2008 as the launch date.
Games need to be spread across multiple platforms to allow for people to make profit and so more people can play the games!
I dont know why people use unresearched arguments to support themselves, it makes them look stupid!
