To clarify on the subject of Three Speech’s policy to moderating responses…
Comments await moderation unless the comment’s author has a previously approved comment on Three Speech. A comment is also held in the queue if it contains more than two links.
If you don’t meet with the criteria above, when you post your comment, you will nonetheless see it live on the site - and yes, you will be able to take a screengrab of it! Other people will not, however, see it until it is approved.
Thanks for reading.

That’s a good idea for moderating them, good thinking

Censorship is when you’re prevented from saying something, moderation is when the speech at a particular place is being regulated. Not the same thing. Grow up. When you Digg people down you moderate this site, but you’re not censoring anyone. You’re only being censored if you have your own website hosted on your own servers and the government comes in a removes your content or threatens you with legal action. In fact, disallowing ThreeSpeech from moderating their own site would be censoring them. Why is anyone alarmed by this and why do you act like Nintendo and Microsoft wouldn’t do the exact same thing? Hell, I’m sure they do on the forums on their websites.

Sounds fair to me - except I can’t get over half the comments you approve lol (I wouldn’t classify them as being ‘constructive’. You guys are too soft!).

Should make life less stressful without the comments intending to irritate others.
Comment by Shin-Ra — Jun 30, 2007 @ 8:18 pm
Moderation is definitely needed. The inappropriate comments have gotten totally out of control here. You can do well to add in a report post feature as well for those that slip through.

Hi. I have an Honest question. Would you moderate away my fair and honest question? I believe it is a question that i have a right to ask, and everyone should also be allowed to know.
Who pays you and why? And if noone, are you infact doing this in your free time with your own funds? Credibility matters.

“Censorship is when you’re prevented from saying something”
If I’m prevented from commenting, if my posts are prevented from being viewed, then it seems to me that is EXACTLY what we have here - censorship by default.
I’d make a longer and more considered post on the topic, but it’s not like anyone beyond the moderators of this site will ever get to read it anyway.

And to find out if you’re being censored or not, people, really easy
1) Have a copy of firefox and internet explorer open. Look at this page
2) Log in to your regular account with firefox, look at what you’ve posted, then look at what your internet explorer ‘not logged in’ page is showing you
3) Bingo, you can see if you’re being censored, because any comments that are will NOT appear in your IE page.
This is not Lave. Multiple people are using Laves name now to be able to get by the censors here.
Except… this story is all over the place now. Wikipedia’s article on ramp industries links to the penny arcade comic from last week talking about how threespeech has a mouth full of sony wang. Digg.com is having a field day with this as people, sony, nintendo and microsoft fans alike are watching stalanistic tactics at work and being DISGUSTED with it. Heck, even the Lave guy we’re all posting under now posted it flat out that THREESPEECH IS A DESIGN OF A MARKETING FIRM HIRED BY SONY. RAMP INDUSTRIES WOULD NOT INCLUDE THREESPEECH FILED UNDER ‘Playstation 3′ AS A DIVISION IF YOU GUYS WERE NOT HIRED.
Case in point, what business do you know of that tells a chunk of its employees they can go ahead and waste company time by creating a Sony fanblog… and then proceed to list said sony fanblog as a ‘division’. No. You guys are hired to report for sony. Quit bullshitting about it, take some goddamn responsibility, say ‘YES WE WORK FOR SONY’ and youll probably get a LOT more people coming here.
Yknow what people like? Honesty. Yknow what has been a hard thing to get from sony PR for some time (not saying Nintendo or Microsoft are any better, but Kaz was wayyyyy out there ‘Itll be like jacking into the matrix!’)? Honesty. How about you just become Sony’s version of Major Nelson, quit beating around the bush, and actually dedicate yourselves to providing the best sony news, not rips and digs on other companies with webs of lies.
You hide the fact that a comment was deleted from the user… why not just say ‘COMMENT DELETED’? Thats pretty rough.
Its not that I dont like Sony. I really do. I play my PS2 more than any other console I own, including my Wii. And Ill own a PS3 when the price drops a bit.
But its because of underhanded tactics like this site, like the fake all i want for christmas is a psp video, that make me not beleive a word of what sony has to promise me, which is why Ill wait for the price to fall and some games for sure to come out. Its because of sites like this that I wont buy a PS3 yet (just bought a PSP the other day, but I certainly wouldnt come here for game news).
Quit screwin around and pony up some answers.

CAN YOU NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT THE STORY YOU’RE RESPONDING TO IS SAYING, YOU STUPID STALKER FREAK. YOU THINK YOU HAVE UNCOVERED AN AMAZING CONSPIRACY WHEN IN FACT YOU JUST DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW WORD PRESS BLOGS WORK.
YOU ARE TYPICAL OF THE DULL, CHURLISH, TRY-TOO-HARD SCUM WHO ARE MAKING A MOCKERY OF BOTH GAMING AND THE WEB. NOW PLEASE, SHUT UP.

Personally I’m gratefully that ThreeSpeech moderates comments, without moderation this site would be a mess of fanboy diarrhea on every blog post’s comments. Without moderation I simply wouldn’t read this site. Of course moderation means that sometimes a valid comment maybe lost and this rightfully angers the poster, but I don’t see away around this. At the end of the day this is ThreeSpeech not unmoderated free speech, and if you don’t understand what ThreeSpeech is look at the top right corner of each page, it clear describes itself there.

@Lave (in this post)
How can you still be complaining about this when there is a explanation on the top of this page… I was one of the previous “Lave’s” and I REGRET even commenting… I do feel ashamed. Also the fact that my comments have even been displayed means that the censorship isn’t so overpowering to stop threespeech!!! TS I’m sorry for supporting a fool!
Comment by Lave — Jul 1, 2007 @ 11:16 am
Interesting.
Comment by Dove — Jul 1, 2007 @ 3:11 pm
Hi again. This is the genuine Lave (not that I can prove that now!) I’ve just read this and this still means a censored comment is hidden from the end user - the transparency of your explanation is all I can ask for.
I’ve no issue with Threespeech moderating comments. I just want the way it does that to be transparent - and explaining it in a post like this is a huge step towards it. And I thank you for that.
This level of transparency from Threespeech about it’s relationship with Sony and the marketing firm RampIndustry would end all this hate towards the site. So I hope you consider that too.
I’ve added the following to the start of my page about all this:
“At some point between saturday evening and sunday morning, my comment number 79 was uncensored. Also Ben from Threespeech has offered a one on one chat about the events. He seems a nice guy. I’ll keep you posted. They’ve also included an explanation of their moderation system. This was not the moderation system that was in place at the time of my original comments (I’ll explain more in detail after I’ve talked to Ben). This new system causes the deletion of a comment to never come to the attention of the original poster, which prohibits conversation and is shady. However the moderating system is now transparent and as such thats a huge improvement. And transparency is all I’ve ever wanted. As I’ve said before I prefer the PS3 to the Xbox I’m not an “Xbot” like some people are calling me. I just want some honesty from ThreeSpeech, RampIndustry and Sony about how they are marketing their products, and the way they are trying to imply they are something they are not.”
Comment by Lave — Jul 1, 2007 @ 4:09 pm
If you’re that bothered about your comments being “censored”, then here’s a piece of advice: you’re taking yourself and your hobby far too seriously.

@15 Lave,
I also previously posted as well… I did the duel window test and, Reading the above made me realize that the post doesn’t appear in the second page because of “sessions”. I also would like to say If I could remove my comments… I would!!! Whats your problem Lave?
Comment by Lave — Jul 1, 2007 @ 5:20 pm
What I find amusing is that people on Digg (usually paid shills) will complain that when they libel the PS3 on a PS3 website it’s no good for them to be moderated, yet they spend all their spare time moderating out any pro-PS3 discussion on their beloved Web 2.0 websites. Ironic isn’t it?

Comment by Lave(not the real noob) — Jul 1, 2007 @ 8:18 pm
To be honest I think there should be more moderation. I’m sick to death of wading through reams of negativity from people who don’t own a PS3 every time I go to a PS3/Sony oriented site and want to read something about the console. I’m interested in its games, its technology, its development, not the peurile views of a bunch of sad people who have nothing better to do than slag off Sony. ThreeSpeech is not the BBC. It shouldn’t have to be “fair” or pander to its critics to the detriment of interested readers, since the site is specifically a platform to talk about Playstation. It’s a site for the owners of the brand and those curious, not the bloody spiteful dicks who infest sites like it all over the Internet.
Lave, no-one cares about your ridiculous petty crusade. You don’t even own a PS3! What are you doing here? Fuck off for Godsake.
Comment by Kenshin001 — Jul 2, 2007 @ 5:11 am
Sorry, but shouldn’t Lave now apologise for having posted a bunch of nonsense?
Comment by basil onetwothree — Jul 2, 2007 @ 1:05 pm
Why should I/him apologise? It’s still the case that you aren’t aware of the censorship even with this new system.
But now it’s been explained, and thats clear - I’m ok with it.
I got what I wanted.
And yes I don’t have a PS3. But I want one , when it’s line up has matured and dropped in price. And as such I want Sony to not act so idiotic.
Comment by Lave — Jul 2, 2007 @ 3:09 pm
In what sense was it censorship. It’s a primary function of messageboards and you’ve kicked up a fuss over nothing
Comment by basil onetwothree — Jul 2, 2007 @ 3:28 pm
Transparency you got when the podcasters offered their OWN PERSONAL OPINIONS about Major “grimy” Nelson. Don’t like it? Oh, well.
The few times I have listened to MN it was sickening the half-truths he pandered to his audience about the PS3. So, stop pretending that Major Nelson is some time of pinnacle of truth. He’s not.
Comment by GL — Jul 2, 2007 @ 3:48 pm
Oh, and by the way. I came to TS.com because I wanted to get news about the PS3 about things like HOME and WH or future updates before other blogs/news sites would get them. But that’s not the case. It seems as though OTHER sites get PS3 info (IGN/Joystiq/GS) before this site does. There are OP-ED pieces on here that you wont get from other blogs, though. And now they have a podcast. All the better. Another one to add to my growing list of podcasts.
Comment by GL — Jul 2, 2007 @ 3:57 pm
