Three Speech was at the Mayfair hotel in London earlier this week to witness the unveiling of the PS3’s biggest post-release title, Heavenly Sword, expected out in the UK this September. From what we’ve seen and played, it’s going to be an epic next-gen fantasy romp, involving a gorgeous, flame-haired warrior princess, a whole heap of medieval violence and hoardes of monsters to slice and dice your way through.
On hand to shoot the breeze at the swanky event was top-ranking CGI actor Andy Serkis - better known as Gollum and King Kong. He’s in the game as the brilliant evil king, and also directed the game’s other actors in its many beautiful, cinematic cut-scenes.
Andy revealed how he came to work on the game through the unlikeliest of situations and explained how motion capture has given Heavenly Sword its hyper-realistic look and feel. We also spoke to developers Ninja Theory in some detail about the game’s genesis, its stunning graphic realisation and next-gen combat system - and how the game was in development just waiting for the PS3 to make it all possible.
Then we had a natter with Mercury-award winning musician Nitin Sawhney, who wrote the soundtrack. He explained just why he need a whole philharmonic orchestra and half the world’s ethnic musicians to capture the essence of Heavenly Sword through music.
Oh, and we also managed to grab some time with the gorgeous girls whose faces and figures were mapped out and motion captured to be the game’s firey lead Nariko and her in-game companion Kai. All we’ll say about that is, ‘grrrr’.
Check back in shortly to see our video interviews.

If anyone from Ninja Theory or SCEE is reading this, please - no tearing in the finished game. There’s too many next-gen games with ugly tearing (and ugly shadows).

Look forward to seeing the media, I have reservations about this game but the big-budget feel will at least make it a great looking action romp.

Great scoop guys!
@Shin-Ra
“tearing” in these games is from v-sync being off
these next gen game’s performance would suffer significantly had and if they turn it on
please feel free to look up the definition of “v-sync” which might help you get a better understanding of it
cheers!

I’ve already got this game reserved, and I hope the finished game will have more polished graphics from the trailers. Can we get a demo soon?

This is one of my most anticipated games of the summer! NGS, LAIR, WARHAWK, & HS are the big four for me!
Comment by Nigel — Jun 28, 2007 @ 9:27 pm
Sweet. Can’t wait to see the vids.
My only worry about this game is that it’ll be less epic and more action arcadey.

the first guy to comment needs to shut the hell up this game will be great

I predict this game will be awesome, but it will also be too easy, too simple, and too short. The lack of game play complexity will keep it from being the game it could be. Always remember, gameplay before presentation.

Sorry, ’shortly’ means not for around ten days actually. We’re not allowed to air the vids until then.
Comment by Three Speech — Jun 29, 2007 @ 2:26 pm
Ah…. that meaning of ’shortly’! Ok, I’ll be back in ten days then.
