Thanks loads for your comments on the PlayStation 3 two months in. Sifting through the odd bout of dubiously similar messages, stuff cut and pasted from elsewhere and the usual suspect IP addresses, we’ve gathered a whole bunch of your relevant comments together and have passed them over to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, who promise to see which points they can action.

Thank you. It’s good to have a feedback.
Comment by Didier H. — May 31, 2007 @ 2:55 pm
I guess your email to SCEE would have been similar to this one:
“The EU PSN Sucks.”
Says everything pretty succintly
Comment by zetsurin — May 31, 2007 @ 2:57 pm
The US PSN sucked too when it first opened. We just dealt with it and set up Hong Kong accounts in the meantime. Nothing is stopping you Euros from doing the same with the US store.
Comment by Chingau Wei — May 31, 2007 @ 3:04 pm
Threespeech get in your car and drive over to Sony HQ and demand custom soundtracks for all games. I am sick of listening to the rubbish music on motorstorm

Its really good to know our comments are being passed on to Sony.
Would love to see an update on some PSN game release dates though, like Calling All Cars!

Thanks, good on you for ignoring the usual negative shit that doesn’t help anybody.

oh now thats supercool to know that this is that kind of forum .. nice.
Comment by whackMushrooms — May 31, 2007 @ 3:50 pm
does anyone remember how many ps2 games were available on launch day?
Comment by linton — May 31, 2007 @ 4:13 pm
I hope mine was kept. Stupid UK Resistance misquoted my post on it’s website. I think the PS3 is fantastic and use mine everyday.. it just could be better.
Lack of games;
Limited content;
Silly launch price;
Stupid stance on PS2 backward compatibility for Europe.
Other then that it’s great
Comment by Kevyn — May 31, 2007 @ 4:16 pm
Agree with others, been impressed so far but we need more games, theres literally nothng about at the moment I want to play and the launch games are old now. Why is it also that many games, which I htought were sony only (Devil May Cry, Resident Evil etc) are coming out on 360 before PS3. So much for exclusive. Also the PSN needs a LOT more content.
Other than that, all is good, for now.
Comment by Terry — May 31, 2007 @ 4:32 pm
@10.
There were 2 - SSX & Timesplitters. Everything else was pump. It was a loong wait for new releases too. Deja Vu or what!
It was worth the wait in the end….
Comment by Mick — May 31, 2007 @ 5:10 pm
Thanks to us?! No thanks for you giving us a vioce, we’d be ranting in some forum if we weren’t here no doubt. It’s good to know we’re being listened to.
Comment by Ben Furneaux — May 31, 2007 @ 5:24 pm
One comment I’d like you to pass on to Sony Europe is to release content to the Playstation Store in line with the US. That is release them at the same time. We only seem to be getting 4 items a week, most of them videos and we are still waiting on Calling all cars, MK plus all the free demos that US have. Everyone would be happy with an international release date like the Xbox Live Marketplace have.
Comment by Michael — May 31, 2007 @ 5:37 pm
Could you tell me why the UK don’t get the same PSN network updates as the rest of the world?
We need more game demos, trailers and retro games. Where is Ninja Gaiden: Sigma, the new movie and Blu-Ray trailers and Gauntlet and Mortal Kombat?

First of all: 1.80 update was fantastic! I really like the media sharing capability and upscaling. This kind of update makes me glad I backed playstation. Keep it up.
Agree with PSN comments. Sony you are missing a trick here. Downloadable TV shows, films and songs via the PSN would be great (DRM free of course!).
Keep updating PS2 compatibility. While I am waiting for a PS3 snowboarding game I want to be able to play all of the PS2 SSX series.
Comment by mj — May 31, 2007 @ 10:09 pm
Nice, wished I commented that a lot of PSP gamers are all waiting for the PSP Store to come out soon. And where is the GPS for the rest of the world? Seems the PS3 gets most of the attention atm.
Comment by PSPimages — May 31, 2007 @ 10:29 pm
I’m also wondering where the TV shows and movies are. I’ve heard that thanks to various studio buyouts, Sony owns nearly half of the Hollywood movies ever made. You’d think they might want to sell some of them to playstation owners.
Granted, I’m sure they’re working out the DRM issues, but they seem confident enough about their ps1 games not getting pirated. Well, in Japan anyway. Looking at the U.S PSN store, I can only hope the reason for the horrible selection is due to piracy concerns, and that it’s going to be addressed very soon. Like next week.
Because I don’t think it’s just me, but the PSN store’s additions seems to be going downhill quickly. If we’re going to be stuck with bad ports of arcade games, could we get some vertical shooters? I don’t even need Ikaruga, I’d settle for some Raiden Fighters… Galaga would make me very happy too.
Comment by androvsky — Jun 1, 2007 @ 1:09 am
Nice to hear about the SCEE bit. There are lots of website maintained by only 1 (one) person that have more content and are updated more often… and just look more professional.
The PSN Store could be an easily remedied situation, and for a minute fraction of the manufacturing/Marketing costs. Online stores are not rocket science.
Look at trailers only for starters: Sony owns a big movie studio, so they could *at least* streamline trailers for all their movies to go into PSN, and I guess a lot of other studios would be happy to have another exposure point… yet there are what 3? 4 trailers on the Euro PSN? Come on… downloading and viewing trailers on PS3 is simple and straightforward as it get (much more so than on a PC), take advantage of it!
In our day and age, I know for sure I won’t be buying any DVD based on cover description, and for BluRay, I want to see the encode quality first before shelling extras over the DVD.
Comment by john — Jun 1, 2007 @ 6:46 am
Sony has added almost everything I’ve suggested, all that’s left is:
-Custom soundtracks (including while in the store) (Including playlist generation/saving)
-Remove the need to press the home button when you play a PS1/PS2 game
-More video codecs!
-The ability to act as a webserver for PSP to upload and download videos/photos/music over the net
-To act as a wifi hotspot for PSPs while in the XMB
-Stream DVDs and BRDs to PSP (come on, they let linux have access to bluray) And what happened to that whole thing about bluray movies coming with lores copies for portable devices? Please let PS3 copy those to PSP when they become available
-Remote play enabled in more games, especially downloadable ones
-Convert movies to PSP, like PSX did
-Standbye/sleep mode, and charge controllers while in this mode. Or at least hibernation
-RSS feed and LocationFree clients
-Cross game chat and invitations via in-game XMB
-custom theme(color) and background
-Reboot to OtherOS, listed on the shutdown menu, at least while in the XMB
-Enable copy/delete multiple, subfolders and sorting/grouping for movies and PS1/PS2 memory cards
-TV tuner addon
-UMD burner addon (this is perfect if it had the TV tuner built in, and an infrared port/blaster)
-The ability to rip PS1 games to PSP
-The ability to use PSP+Chotto/GoCam as a webcam

Yes the PSN Europe store does need to be addressed i can be patient waiting for new titles later this year but i might aswell pack my PS3 away until then unless there is more pay for DLC to occupy me.
Comment by Mike — Jun 1, 2007 @ 11:53 am
My suggestions are…
* More open communication with PlayStation owners.
Announcing PS Home and giving us the October launch was clear, firm, and definite. This is good! and gives us something to look forward to. But Sony has so much other good games, and products but we only hear about them through rumours.
-is the much anticipated Video on Demand service coming to PlayStation 3 like Sony’s David Reeves said? If yes then ANNOUNCE IT! Then us fans and gaming press can get excited and look forward to it!
* UNIFIED FRIENDS LIST
* In-game XMB
* more media formats supported via browser - eg QuickTime
* Let UK/European users participate in Beta tests. We want to test Home & Warhawk as well!
* The UK PS Store feels like it has been abandoned. No word, no comment about content is coming from Sony. Two trailers in 2 weeks. Sony Why have you forsaken us?! Is the game ‘Calling all Cars’ coming? Why dont you tell us when?
Other than that, Im just looking forward to some great games.
Comment by Andronix — Jun 1, 2007 @ 12:52 pm
@ 22 - they can’t stream Blu-ray over remote play because of HDCP, a wireless connection wouldn’t be HDCP compliant. A UMD burner will never happen, mainly because its a Sony proprietary format. Also, its pretty pointless when you can get 1 - 2gb memory sticks quite cheaply now anyway.
Agree with all your other points though.
Comment by Tom Eccles — Jun 1, 2007 @ 1:46 pm
Cool, I didn’t realise you did that otherwise I would have chipped in too! If it’s not too late here are my suggestions (though most have probably been mentioned before):
In-Game XMB (it would be so handy to [a] be able to read/send messages and [b] be able to bring up the web browser and surf GameFAQ’s if you get stuck mid-game).
Custom Soundtracks (how hard is it to add this in the options menu, I store all my mp3’s on my PS3 now!)
PlayStation Store (layout is rubbish in the UK one, the US version is a mild improvement. “Latest” should have new additions in strict chronological order, and the rest should have more segregation like the US store, of course to achieve this we would need more content segregate! Where’s the PS1 games, regularly updated movie trailers, full length movies/TV shows, and where’s the demo’s - I hope Sony don’t think they’re going to rip us off with the OPM demo disc instead of giving us free downloads! I read somewhere that UK is Sony’s 3rd most important market behind Japan & the US, so surely we deserve to have a little more attention paid to the layout of our store!)
Beta testing (let the UK get a piece of the action, why can’t we have a club where we can sign up and give feedback and be selected for beta’s and play tests like they have in the US).
Better Advertising (ok this is a random point, but drop the silly ads! I’m sick of trying to explain the benefits of paying extra for the PS3 or defending exclusives, Sony should do this in their ads! I bet the average consumer who doesn’t surf the net or follow the gaming industry don’t even realise it’s a Bluray player, let alone that it has free online, upscales DVD’s, folds protein strings, streams content, stores/displays/prints photo’s or manages your mp3/movie collection! Ads should focus on it’s features, it’s quality, it’s power, it’s ease of use. Here’s a novel idea, try showing some game footage once in a while, I see the green X at the end of almost every game ad, where’s the PS3 branding?)
Better PR (similar to the above, if the likes of MGS4/FFXIII exclusivity is set in stone then speak out and rub the competitions nose in it. Likewise if former exclusives like Bioshock are coming to the PS3 come out and gloat, or if it’s true that the likes of Silent Hill 5 and Resident Evil 5 are PS3 exclusive make it known to the world. The way I see it Microsoft are the kings of self gratification, the slightest tiny thing to go in their favour and their execs are blogging the arse off the internet and ensuring their minions do the same ensuring any small piece of news, or even rumours, are found in every corner of the net. Conversely, if something goes in Sony’s favour you’re lucky if you find out about it! Maybe it’s a clash of cultures between American and Japan, but when people like Konami come out saying the PS3 is the only platform anywhere near capable for fulfilling their vision for Silent Hill 5 Sony should be making sure everyone knows about it, because you can guarantee if they said that about the 360 it would be all over every games website and blog in a matter of hours!)
Ok I’ve got that off my chest, but didn’t take this as a negative, this list was a lot longer a few month’s ago. I personally think Sony is doing a tremendous job with their regular system updates. Major bugbears’ like background downloading and DVD upscaling have been sorted very early on and we can expect future big improvements when the likes of Home becomes available. Also, as far as I’ve seen they have been very reliable, I’ve heard no reports of PS3’s dying post update unlike a certain other console with it’s “red ring of death”. I for one say keep up the good work!
Comment by Apnomis — Jun 1, 2007 @ 2:54 pm
Oh boo hoo, and stuff. You’ve already given them the list of things you think we want? Does that mean mentioning XMB in game again wont help? What about if I mention being able to play our own tunes in game? Ha ha ha!
I want all of all the good stuff, and no whining.
Plus more!
Who was who mentioned calibrating the sensitivity of the motion control while in game? That’s a good idea.
Comment by LordOfRuin — Jun 1, 2007 @ 3:04 pm
1. My constructive comment in the other thread was deleted, so I’m not holding out much hope for this one.
2. Thanks to 1.8 and 3.5 I’ve spent the day watching TV shows stored on my PC, on my PSP at work, via the PS3 at home… and that’s impressed everyone - except the boss.

Another awful Store update for the UK today, I do however highly recommend the newly released FolksSoul demo off the Japanese Store..
Why we can’t get any of this released here is beyond me.

Comment by sweetasman01 — Jun 2, 2007 @ 1:46 am
As for why the EU store is lacking demos so much:
Because it’s either in Japanese (Folklore) or NTSC (all the US store demos), and developers somehow can’t be bothered to get separate demoes out to cater to European needs.
~Grauw
Comment by Laurens Holst — Jun 2, 2007 @ 3:25 am
Pretty much all TV sets in Europe support NTSC (and the rare old things that don’t likely don’t even have a SCART or S-VIDEO entry), and this was already the case back when PS2 came out, so NTSC isn’t a good excuse.
Comment by john — Jun 2, 2007 @ 6:53 am
I don’t know if anybody has mentionened this before but can we please have Prev and Next mapped to L1 and R1 or some such scheme in the PS Store. It is almost like the PS Store was designed for mouse usage. Was it?
Some way to organise content in the XMB. Folders maybe. So I could have my Blu-Ray trailers in one subfolder of videos. Etc. for games and photos.
Ability to copy MP3’s ripped on the PS3 to media server.
Access to network attached USB printers.
A clipboard. And the ability to mark text and URL’s in browser and send them via PS3 messages.
(Why could I not post this (I tried) from the PS3 browser? I’m on a PS3 site fer pete’s sake!)

THE PS3 IS REGION FREE, so therefore there is NO NTSC/PAL rewriting needed. The US demos work on PAL PS3s. Folklore is in ENGLISH with japanses subtitles, I have the demo running on my PAL system!
Comment by sweetasman01 — Jun 2, 2007 @ 8:10 am
I forgot, switch the PSN store to in-XMB. Have it download a database of what we can download, whenever it connects to the net if there is a new version available.
This way, there are no load times, and we can sort by many different types
Comment by Techni — Jun 2, 2007 @ 9:46 am
@ 34 - Yes, it is region free but thats nothing to do with NTSC / PAL. PAL and NTSC are types of TV which have different resolutions - this isn’t a problem with HDTV as they’re the same, but for people with SDTVs US content might not work correctly if their TV doesnt support NTSC.
Comment by Tom Eccles — Jun 2, 2007 @ 11:08 am
I know it’s really redundant to repeat, but I can’t stress enough how bad people want to access the XMB in-game. I hoping update 2.0 answers this request, and I hope you guys have sent this in as one of the most requested features. Upscaling was another big one that’s been addressed so I’m fairly optimistic about in XMB.
I see a lot of users complaining about the lack of content on PSN, but I like the direction Sony is taking. Adding full-blown online games like Warhawk and Socom. Completely new features like Home, and amazing genre defining games like LBP. So guess if there’s anything to knock Sony for, it isn’t the direction or quality of PSN, it’s simply the quantity. Music and Movies should come this year as well.
All in all, I’m really impressed with a console that’s been out for less than a year. Just keep it up Sony, PS3 is slowly going into PS2 territory=HAVING SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE.
That’s the biggest concern we should be having. PS3 needs compelling software in EVERY SINGLE GENRE. A Halo-Killer, a Brain Age-killer, A Mario kart-killer, etc…you get my drift. It looks like that’s the direction Sony is once again taking. Patience however, is not one of most gamers strong points though. I don’t wanna say rush the software out the door. But, there really needs to be a nice spread of compelling software. Don’t just ram 4 or 5 AAA games down our throats in the Fall and then nothing else until Final Fantasy or GT5 is finished.
Comment by Jarod — Jun 3, 2007 @ 7:26 am
@Apnomis-while I agree with your comments above. It’s just not Sony’s PR style to gloat and bash like MS. Sony’s PR guys does have an arrogant we know we still got it attitude, simply because Phil sees everything that’s coming to PS3 software wise and probably think it’s better than the competition.
I honestly don’t want to see blogs and sites praising PS3 and bashing X360 or Wii. Just bring us the games. That’s how you crush the competition right there. It doesn’t matter how vocal MS supporters are, the games are what do the REAL talking.
With the formation of Sony World Wide Studios, Sony now has the biggest first-party titles of any platform, but there not over-shadowing the 3rd party support either like Nintendo did back in the day.
MS has benefited from it’s headstart, and Wii has benefited from it’s cheap price and easy games. Holiday season 07 is the real beginning of the console war, and 08 is the deciding factor of who the market leader is. Sony doesn’t need MS-like PR guys to win the war. Sit back and watch, 07 is when PS3 is finally taking off man… There’s too much under the wraps right now to see it.

The euro store could be a lot better, great lack of content specially compared to the japanese one.
For the main problems appointed, some of them I don`t mind that much,
Backwards is great but I have my PS2 so, ok.
Already mentioned lack of content on euro store, but Sony is cool enough to let you go to the USA and Jap stores.
I don`t agree with people saying that there isn`t enought good games out :
Resistance
Motorstorm
Ridge Racer 7
Genji
Marvel Alliance
Virtua Fighter 5
All depends on the taste.
June is going to be very good.
I don`t believe that many people have all that money or time to spend on so much games that they have to say that there isn`t good ones enough, all a matter of taste.
OKAY, get a better store and a way to access XMB and friends messages in-game.
Comment by GabranthPT — Jun 4, 2007 @ 12:32 pm
Lets hope that the rumoured 2.0 firmware update arrives really soon.
Sony should also pack a headset with every console as bluetooth headsets vary in quality. We all love PS3 but the 360 blows it away for voice chat and ease of use online.
We also need custom soundtracks and improved online voice chat in ALL games
Comment by Spangles — Jun 4, 2007 @ 1:32 pm

And that was just people saying good things about the PS3.

id rather have the PS Eye included vs some crap BT headset which is going to do nothing but mess with the wireless.
Comment by Anonymouse — Jun 4, 2007 @ 5:02 pm
Sony should include a headset that plugs into the controller, this would then stop the problems with wireless headsets. Dont get me wrong I do enjoy my PS3 but try playing motorstorm with headsets is a joke. I would love to be able to chat with other racers without headsets working and then not working. I think that us bloggers should be invited to SCEE to give accross our valid comments on what us gamers need in a gaming system. Why not employ the xbox live team to sort out your online Sony ?
Comment by Spangles — Jun 4, 2007 @ 10:18 pm

video subfolders and most importantly playlists and play artist/play album links from songs.
Also when switching between front and background tasks you have to find the playing song, so a now playing link would be nice

Youll be hard pressed to find a TV, VCR or DVD player in the last 10 years which doesnt do 3 or 4 different formats.
Comment by Anonymouse — Jun 5, 2007 @ 4:08 am
“When will Sony be fixing the proxy exploits which allow people to download things they shouldnt have for free, like games and the betas?”
That’s not possible to fix. Routers act as proxies too. And even if it were possible to fix, people would just give the PS3 false info to make it think a PC was the default gateway, and the PC would just run the proxy program anyway.
“Sony should include a headset that plugs into the controller”
YES! 360 did something very good by having a headset port on the bottom on the controller. The rumbe add on, or next SIXAXIS version needs the same. I always thought Sony would release a headset that plugs into that little USB port
