A big thank you to all those who attended last night’s Three Speech event over at PlayStation’s 3Rooms venue and for making it such a huge success - especially those who travelled all the way from Nottingham, Leeds, Plymouth etc just for the occasion!
We’ll be getting some film footage and other info taken from the event up on Three Speech asap. In the meantime, we’d love to hear your thoughts on the evening, on what Phil had to say and on playing the PS3s. Also feel free to send in any pics you took - we’ll get some of them up on the site.
Here’s a couple to start with from Amit Tida:

It was a great evening! Thanks to everyone for organising the event, to Phil for coming along and to the staff who had worked a very long day and were friendly and helpful all night.
I’m in the middle of writing a long blog post about the event
Cheers and thanks again.

Wow, what a night! A fantastic evening setup by the team at Threespeech and Sony. A lot of people like myself watch videos, read articles, etc online and thorugh other various media outlets / publishers, but the truth is you have to see it for yourself to truly appreciate what the PS3 can do, and the capabilities that it holds for the future.
A big thank you to David and the team at Threespeech, and also to Phil Harrison for taking time out of his busy schedule and answer some questions and hang around for a while.
Keep up the good work on the site, will be in touch soon.
Take care and thanks again.

A great evening. I came with the intent of not getting over-awwd by the occasion and my first encounter with the playstation 3, I cracked and am still grinning ear to ear with excitement.
Im some-what repeating a previouse statment by saying- You truly can’t apreciate what this machine has to offer untill you have seen it in the flesh.
A HUGE thankyou to David and the Threespeech team, Phil Harisson for his time and everyone else that attended. I had a great chat with a variety of people. (I was wearing glasses and a checked shirt)
dont hesitate to get intouch, hopefully we can build a tight-nit community for future threespeech events.

I was wearing glasses and wearing a green striped shirt, playing a lot of Motorstorm. And big thanks to everyone who chatted, hung out and enjoyed playing games. It was great to talk to all you guys.

Thanks to all of the Sony guys, David, The whole Threespeech team and the people i met yesterday

*Pete* Nice write up - particularly interesting to read about the remote play to PSP and online gaming aspects. Regarding homebrew, what is the lowdown on that? And must admit, when I’ve heard him on videos Phil Harrison has never come across as arrogant to me - single minded maybe but quite inspired as well. Thanks again for the report.
Comment by Belfast Steps — Dec 13, 2006 @ 8:26 pm
Thanks a lot Belfast Steps, I appreciate the feedback!
Homebrew lowdown is..watch this space from what I remember! It’ll happen for sure.
Single mindedness can be perceived as arrogance in some people, I know exactly what you mean. Fair play to him, Phil was a nice guy, and nice to see a Brit so high up in a huge company like Sony, got to give it to the guy!

[…] Posted by Curtis on December 13th, 2006 Sony recently threw an PR event of sorts in the UK at their PlayStation’s 3Rooms venue at which Phil Harrison was on hand to assure the Brits that yes, they still plan on launching the PS3 in March…they just don’t know when…yet. Apparently, Sony may be keen on releasing the PS3 on the 3rd day of the 3rd month. How cheeky. Here are some other noteworthy things to, umm, note…. […]

Can anyone who was there last night confirm if all of the below is accurate please
—————
PS3 to Launch Earlier and Cheaper than expected in EU - 4 Hours Ago
This is great news for the pal region.
Quote:
INFO GATHERED FROM LONDON’S www.threespeech.com event with Phil Harrisson (December 12th 2006)
Playstation 3 european launch within the first 2 weeks of March 2007, as explained to me, Sony’s financial year ends on the 3rd week of March and therefore they want to launch before the next finanacial year begins. Judging that UK consoles always release on a friday expect the european launch on either the 2nd or 9th of March. Though a strong hint was that they are hoping to drop the playstation 3 on the 3rd day of the 3rd month (march 3rd).
On the same day as playstation 3’s euro launch SCE are to distribute there march firmware update with features including:
multi-tasking (included will be audio/video conferencing while browsing the xmb and its features/ gameplay).
new xmb display options
new animations for audio playback.
new photo album options.
playstation store auto ressume
psp remote play advanced access option (so that you can have access to your ps3’s content anywhere that has a internet connection)
Firmware will be constantly updated, with the view of a tv tuner and tivo like service to be available in the 3rd quater of 2007.
Also it is hoped that the same week as the euopean launch of the system will also see the worldwide launch of the ps3’s HDip Camera (specifications to be announced at a later date). In terms of other accessories, Sony dont see it as a necesity to manufacture playstation branded headsets, keyboards or mice, as put to me by Jonathun of SCE’s threespeech.com ‘Third party companies can offer these accessories to the consumer at a price which SCE could not compete’.
A extension to the Sony online store will also make its debut in march. Titled ‘Sing Store’, PS3 owners will be able to purchase songs for there ‘Sing Star’ kareoke programme from a slew of artists and will also be given the option to view the songs purchased as music videos via the video playback option within the xmb.
In terms of the european online store, while still being extremley vague, a spokesman for SCE europe was able to explain that Sony would have no defense if they were to charge the european consumer more than in other regions as there are no extra costs on digital distribution as apposed to a product with packaging etc. So expect a $15.00 download to cost people in the UK around £6.50.
other notes-
PS3 will be sold at £425 or lower, meaning we could have it cheaper then the previousley stated price.
Dont expect to see 20GB models available in europe.
No VGA cables to be released.
No plans to make RSX available to Linux OS, due to security issues.
A service to reserve your playstation online id will be up and running this weekend or next.
Sony make a much smaller loss on European PS3’s, so expect production to be diverted there, if needed.
