Haven’t tried online yet (wasn’t working yesterday) but the single player is great. Just a bit disappointed it’s almost entirely Pure/Pulse based. Wicked game, though.

Umm, isn`t this game supposed to be sold for under 12 GPB. On our local Czech PS Store is sold for almost 16 GBP. Why? It`s same product, no localization, no differences.

Will be picking this up tonight.. any chance of getting a full store update post?

Other than that the game is simply awesome. Its a must buy.

me and a friend have a mutual turn taking in downloading stuff where we share psn accounts and costs of games. Anybody know if I’ll be able to download wipeout off his account? Or will it make a lock on his account/my account?

I must admit I’ve never really enjoyed previous Wipeout games. But this… is just unbelievable. It just grabs me by the neck and insists I have fun until my eyes want to pop out of my head.
Awesome.

Comment by Ricky — Sep 25, 2008 @ 10:32 pm
really, really liked it! it looks and plays as good as I hoped. The graphics is great, even though you dont get much time looking at it:P
Is it just me getting a blurry edge on the upper side though? not horrible, but it shouldnt be there…
Comment by BlueViper — Sep 25, 2008 @ 10:43 pm
HD visuals look great, ships handle brilliantly. The audio tracklist is abysmal, as expected. Luckily it has custom playlists. On the whole very impressed
The Burnout trophy patch not being ‘retroactive’ is a serious FAIL. Why did Criterion leave it until the release date to inform people.

Had a very nostalgic night playing through some of my all-time favourite wipeout tracks in glorious HD. I had so many of those “oh s*&!” moments and came out the other side up a couple of places. This is the game that is going to bring back that crazy playstation addiciton for me!
Comment by puzl — Sep 26, 2008 @ 1:43 am
Someone please! 3rd time asking now. does your audio skip in game?
I cant possibly think why mine is.. no one else is mentioning it.
Bugged install :S? fs. Its really annoying.
Can you re download purchased games? i might try re download and re install…
Awesome but driving me up the wall with the audio stopping and skipping like a CD every few seconds.
Comment by Ricky — Sep 26, 2008 @ 2:27 am
its pretty good. never been a real wipeout fan last wipeout game i own was 2097 i think it was called.
but i can recomend every one to get this. its fun runs smooth and looks real nice. dont think ill ever get use to hovercraft physix i want my racers to have 4 weels ^^ still a real good buy.
@ricky
i havent hade any sound problems or any bugs/problems so far. and i think you can re DL stuff you slrady purchased from psn. pretty stupid if you could incase your ps3 broke or somethin then youd have to buy it all over again and that would suck
Comment by mikkelito — Sep 26, 2008 @ 3:18 am
Ricky, audio skip for me too. Sound like one channel drops out for a second, then comes back on… Happens once about every 30 seconds.
(60 gig p3 connected via hdmi to Sony str-dg820 receiver.)
And yes, it’s very annoying.
Comment by eXistenZialist — Sep 26, 2008 @ 4:42 am
This is in response with the guy with the audio issues… my wipeout hd audio is skipping. this is on a 320gb hd (not stock of course) and via Linear PCM HDMI. can you confirm that you have a similar setup?
Comment by EternityInBlack — Sep 26, 2008 @ 6:44 am
I’m liking it. The visuals are a lot brighter and cleaner than I was expecting. Kind of like ratchet and clank I think.Ships handle very well and I can see that it is going to be very fast paced (once I get past the first few easy levels). This is definitely a game to show off what the PS3 can do. I’m slightly disappointed by the audio tracklist. Being a dance music fan and a fan of the soundtracks on previous games, I thought the tracklist could have been better. As someone else said, we can use custom tracklists so this is not really an issue. I love the presentation of the game. - The menu system with corresponding sound effects, animated background, and so on. It feels very well polished. Designers Republic would be proud. Time will tell if this taster of wipeout will be enough to satisfy me or if I’ll be longing for the full game. I’ve said it before - I tend to prefer these short-and-sweet downloadable titles as opposed to the full priced games. They’re easier on the wallet making it easier to vary your game collection.

This game has annoyed me already…first it took a millenia todownload, now it wont even let me past the menu screen withoutfreeeeezin’!
Sort it out Pysognosis!
Comment by elephant_stone — Sep 26, 2008 @ 9:32 am
the game freezes up in the menus if you have around 60 or more friends on your list!
i also have a strange problem with it. on the main menu i can see it says PRESS SELECT in the top right corner. if i press it sometext comes on the screen that looks like game code and the game crashes if i click anything, anyone seen this?
Comment by mr_jaffa — Sep 26, 2008 @ 9:43 am
@37 [elephant_stone]:
Are you logged-in to the PlayStation Network at the time of the menu freezing?
If so, try it again after logging out.
Also, do you have more than 50 ‘Friends’ registered?
If so, delete a few (to bring the total under 50), and see if that makes any difference.

fp.

It looks lush. It plays lush. It sounds fantastic. No skipping on my audio. All that I need, are my long lost skills. Where are they? I’m rubbish. Oh no. Must spend more time playing. I’d like some extra long and swoopy tracks so I can play extreme Zones with. Erm, oh I can’t think of anything much more that I’d do. I’m just loving it.
Comment by LordOfRuin — Sep 26, 2008 @ 10:06 am
Yeh I’m liking it, didnt realise that this thread was here as the one about Fall of Man 2 seems to be sticky…. Just a shame that there isnt more from older wipeouts or indeed some new content.
This will osund weird I guess but I think there maybe too much going on graphics wise, from a design point of view I really liked the minimal look of wipeout 3. I know in part this was because of the limitations of the PS hardware but I think it contributed a lot to the style. I remember playing it in a nightclub on a massive screen. Ah the memories…
Comment by Terry — Sep 26, 2008 @ 10:06 am
My reaction to “WipEout HD”…
I’m waiting for a demo version as I never liked the previous instalments in the franchise (on any of the PlayStation consoles).
However, is “WipEout HD” really the demo version of the next title in the series (and you have to pay GBP 11.99 for it)?
I suspect if a playable demo was going to be made available we would have seen it already (as the development team have had more than enough time so far to prepare one).

AWESOME…AWESOME…AWESOME.
been playing all night, and I am completely wiped out!! Is it just me or is it REALLY hard?? I aced the first round with all golds, but in the second grid I am struggling to get silver and bronze? Need more practice I guess…Online racing with weapons is incredible, fast, smooth, easy to get into and no lag. Visuals in Zone mode are like nothing I’ve ever seen before. I can understand why the big serious health warning was slapped on…well worth every one of the 1199 pennies. I would happily have paid full game price for this…
…did i mention it was AWESOME!!!
to anyone having problems, I havent experienced any yet, but I have read some other threads that suggest it has something to do with large buddy lists?? If you have more than 50 friends, the online mode will freak out…not sure why? I havent had any problems with audio or image.
Speaking of audio, being able to play your own music in game is excellent. Wipeout and Linkin Park go very well together…I wish other games, like motorstorm, would use this feature.
Anyhoo, at work now, but will be online again tonight…my PSN is xMonkeyWrenchx, all friend requests welcome.

I think I’d have been more impressed if it had come out on time. After such a long build up, it would be hard for ANY game to live up to expectations.
Although it is visually stunning, the gameplay is not anything special in my opinion.

Must own PSN title for any PS3 owner with a HD TV. Worth every penny and a real showcase for the power of the black box!

I have just spent the night playing Wipeout HD, it is well worth 11.99 it is simply stunning and plays awesome. Also loving my new xmb wallpapers! Looking forward to new tracks and ships to download in the coming months and will be happy to pay for more track etc.. Incase anyone saw me online last night (Bennibop) I cleaned up! Haven’t lost my touch at all!
Comment by Ben — Sep 26, 2008 @ 1:54 pm
Impressions (not inpressions) so far,
Graphically quite stunning, only complaint is the crowd looks a bit static in the pre-race preview, but as you zoom past them when racing it doesn’t matter in the slightest…
Real-time damage on the ships would have been nice too but you can’t expect the moon on a stick…
Had no sound problems, speakers did pop once but that is down to my old amp…
(hooked up with TOSLINK cable, not HDMI)
Had a quick play with motion control, pitch and steering was not as bad as I thought it would be, Pitch only was really good… Still have motion sensor set to off for now though…
Highlight so far is Zone with colours that slightly change with the music is eye melting…
(had to use eye drops last night - No Joke)
In game custom soundtrack support will be a great blessing after sinking many more hours in the game when boredom with the default soundtrack kicks in…
All in all, worth £11.99 and also worth the painfully long wait, looking forward to the new downloadable tracks/ships in the near future…
(hope they are still free like they were for Pure, if I remember correctly)
Comment by Mr. Monkey — Sep 26, 2008 @ 5:09 pm
@ 40 and other audio problem people..
Nope I am using HDMI for the video and AV cable to a hifi for the audio… the sound effects of the game are fine, its just the music skips like a CD so I dont think it has anything to do with how its hooked up
Mind you i am on a 320GB Samsung drive. But as someone else mentioned they get it on the standard 60gb so.. wtf
Glad its not just me then… any ideas? Seems might not be the cause. Haven’t tried re installing yet.

please:
* allow sideshifting via the D-pad <>
* introduce the Pulse/Pure HUD as alternatives (via DL?)
* do not forget people with SD - resolutions when presenting the interface (the zoom-function = unfortunately only soso)
congratulations on the sound-guys too! in 5.1 this is nothing short of astounding
Comment by Stingo — Sep 27, 2008 @ 1:39 am
I had audio glitches on default settings with the supplied music - using my own music no glitches even with audio effects on. Optical cable to surround amp, 720p res.
Game is amazing. Every bit.
Comment by SoliidSnaake — Sep 27, 2008 @ 2:13 am
I now have had audio glitches too, the cd skipping sound…
Think it comes from my hard-drive being a bit fragmented. I have downloaded a fair few demos/video trailers and deleted them…
Its only happened twice so far, but if it gets worse I am going to back-up my hard-drive and format it…

Great game, very hardcore, but at that price, it would be a shame if no one bought it.
Comment by ThreeSpeechlover — Sep 27, 2008 @ 9:23 pm
Mr. Monkey. Don’t think that makes a difference. I just recovered a backup.. installed the game and still the same skipping. Hopefully its just a software issue/bug. That’s the way it looks to me.
Comment by Ricky — Sep 27, 2008 @ 11:21 pm
By the way do the people with skipping have playTV? I do but I don’t have background recording or anything like that going on. I don’t even have the box plugged in when i’m playing so I don’t think it could be that.
Comment by Ricky — Sep 27, 2008 @ 11:22 pm
WipeOut HD is Pure/Pulse tracks cobbled together and splashed into an HD mode (yeah, but which one and how high is its res?)
It’s basically a Sony Studios Liverpool (or whoever produced it) demo code.
You know? A technology demo…to see if they can get some HD stuff running so they can learn how to do HD games ‘properly’ in the future.
Sony just happen to be charging gamers for it.
Over & Out.
Comment by Zed Zee — Sep 28, 2008 @ 9:18 am
This is £11.99? Castle Cashers on the 360 was 1200 MS points Xbox Originals are 1600 MS points can’t believe the level of complaints. It looks great and plays great. I owned the original PS when it came out and this is one of the games I bought at launch. I have even dug out my old Leftfield album and ripped it to the PS3. Flying around listening to Afro-left by Leftfield it doesn’t get any better!!
