“Populous” doesn’t seem to be listed in my view of the (UK) PS3 ‘Store.
Is this a “PC Store” item?

Nope! Not there either!?!

HAHA, burnout is cheaper on Amazon!

Really good update….
but just upset we are obviously going to get screwed over the COD4 maps, in Europe. No word from Activision or sony would be nice even if its to say yeah you are going to get screwed.
Comment by xxShadowsFallxx — Sep 26, 2008 @ 11:15 am
/is also unable to find Populous

I think the “convenience” factor of having one of the best PS3 titles available on your hard drive at all times would far outweigh the small saving you can make buying the Blu-ray title…
PowerPlayDirect £23.49
DVD{dot}co{dot}uk - £24.97
Amazon (UK) £24.98
Play{dot}com £24.99
zavvi (nee Virgin Megastores) £25.00
Sendit £25.69
The HUT/Asda Entertainment £25.73
Currys/Dixons (online) £25.73
LoveFilm £25.73
However, I bet you could make greater savings on the PSP versions of the two “Burnout” titles.
The full download of “Burnout Paradise” will include all patches to date, so you’ll be saving time there too.
What’s more intriguing is what else is on the Blu-ray disc if the download size is around 3.24/3.5Gb (depending which ‘Store region you visit).
Either way, I am a tad disappointed that Criterion Games chose not to mention that the 64 Trophies would not be retrospectively applied until the day of release of the 1.50 Upgrade Patch (yesterday). Up until now they have been extremely forthcoming with information & certainly with their time providing all the game patches/upgrades for free. Perhaps they knew this information would not be well-received.
I really had done a lot of the in-game tasks already, and now I’m wondering whether it will be worth be deleting my existing “save game” settings locally, or just not caring about not being able to collect all the Trophies.

Populous only has a € price and no £ price, so I guess for a change Europe get something the UK don’t…
Good update this week though, it will be interesting to see what happens to the weekly update when we start getting a weekly version of Qore which presumably will mean weekly exclusive content!
I also agree about the PSN Burnout Paradise price - it should be £19.99 tops, same as GT5 should have been £19.99 - it was good enough for Warhawk!
Under £20 and a game might be worth having via download - but you can get the disc version for £25!!!
Comment by Apnomis — Sep 26, 2008 @ 11:28 am
Wowee, that’s a nice update!
Megaman 9!!
Wipeout HD!!
Buzz Video Game Quiz sounds neat, I’ll have to grab Buzz once I’m done paying for my TV (1080p has a price…)
Comment by Inzoum — Sep 26, 2008 @ 11:32 am
@fp
slightly more convenient I’ll give you that, but with no resale value, can’t lend to friends, uses up lots of valuable space on the HDD … those must at least equal the convenience factor if not outweigh it….
It’s even available for £19.92 + £1.99shipping on Amazon marketplace.
I think i’ll take the extra 3 seconds to swap the disk over thanks.
I like that they’re providing it as a download, just not the price.
Comment by Rob — Sep 26, 2008 @ 11:34 am
what a crap update, most of the stuff isnt on the New Zealand or Aussie store and WpEout is buggy as hell. It has crashed on me 12 times in the last 3 god dam hours and online doesnt work
Comment by Carl(threespeech censored me) — Sep 26, 2008 @ 11:34 am
@9 [Rob}:
Oh yes, I totally agree. I would take the physical format media over the digital virtual representation any day... even if it was double the price (in "Burnout Paradise's" case, definitely... I have spent far too much time on this title this week... it's been eating into my "LittleBigPlanet" Beta, and "PAIN Amusement Park" time no end!). I've given up on "Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online" now as the number of server "disconnects" & 1,000 points docking I receive on a weekly basis has tainted the whole experience for me
I bought the Asian release of "Siren: New Translation" (via eBay) so I could have a Blu-ray title to keep in my extensive video games collection.
The other downside of electronic distribution is that if your beloved PS3 console is ever stolen you won't be able to provide a photograph of the loss prior to departure from your property for the insurance company.
More of my thoughts (apologise to those who've seen this article [quoted, countless times] before)…

If your console is stolen, when you get a new one you can log into your old PSN account and download everything again. So why would you need to tell your insurance company? Anyway, if you did want to tell them what PSN games you had you could just download your transaction history from the PSN store.
Comment by BadgerBadger — Sep 26, 2008 @ 11:47 am
Yes, BadgerBadger, you can (re-)download up to 5 times from your “basket” (Download History) on the ‘Store. More to the point, your PSN Id has then gone as well!
Try & re-download “SingStar” tracks bought from the SingStore, or movies from the US Video-on-demand service (”VidZones”).
You can’t!
Hope that gets ‘fixed’ soon.

Best update ever…
Could of done with a demo for Wipeout but thats something I can overlook this time…
RE: Burnout Paradise, going to buy it soon I think (BD) noticed in the demo there is no rumble while boosting, is it the same in the full game? Its a small thing but can be the deciding factor to which platform I get it for…
(Think it does rumble while boosting 360 version, downloading demo to make sure)

would rather wax my fac e than give up on physical storage media
Comment by JohnSketch — Sep 26, 2008 @ 12:02 pm
@fp
You can re-download things from your history as many times as you want, but only to five different consoles.
Why would you lose your PSN id? It’s tied to your email address, you could just log in to your account on the PC store and change the password.
The Singstar tracks would be a problem yes, but I have no idea about the US movie store. VidZone is the European music video streaming service that launches next year by the way, the yanks don’t have it and aren’t getting it. Which makes a change.
Comment by BadgerBadger — Sep 26, 2008 @ 12:31 pm
You forgot to add BuzzTV Videogames Quiz pack for £3.49. It’s on the store cos I downloaded it last night.

Or rather you put it under Game and not Pack

@16 [BadgerBadger]:
…assuming you have a PC, and your PS3 is not your “media centre” as would be wished by the PlayStation marketing.
I think we’re perhaps getting away from the point I was trying to make…
…you cannot put a price on digital downloads to present as a claim to your insurance company.
What if the download title was no longer available?
What about additional costs of re-downloading?
(Not everybody has unlimited Internet download capacity)
What about the time spent re-downloading?
I would sooner have a physical title in my hand & feel that I owned something for my money.
I can take it to another console with ease & play there, rather than having to wait 30 minutes to download it (after setting up a duplicate PSN Account, and then remembering to delete it afterwards).
Of course Digital distribution will be the preferred approach in a few years time, and disc-based media will be phased out due to “costs of production” & wasting “Earth’s limited resources”, but just look at the mess the world’s economy is in at the moment with just trading on stock exchanges electronically without ever seeing physical assets.
When we all have to live in caves because the InterWeb is broke, then everybody with something tangible to barter with for food, clothing, & heat will be the rich ones… not those who saved a few quid at the point of sale.

Good job I didn’t fill up my hard drive with “WipEout HD”.
I can’t say why… but the reason may rhyme with ‘Billzone TooKeta’.
More Beta “keys” for “LittleBigPlanet” shouldn’t be too far away either… possibly towards the middle of next week.

Good find, Mr M.
Just going to show that digital downloads affect high street (and online) retailers. Hope Parent & Sister sites, GAME.net & GamePlay.co.uk follow this lead.
In any respect, when you get online, if you fancy a “freeburn challenge”, hook me up via your Friends List.

I cannot seem to find “Burnout Paradise” listing at ShopTo.Net - do you have a direct link for it?
Also, as with all online ordering, don’t forget to use intermediary sites (like QuidCo.com) to gain extra discount.
PS. “Burnout Legends” for the PSP…
£4… be quick before they all sell out!

Did we get Populous months ago in the UK? I remember when it was added but TS didn’t list it on the site and there were many, many messages that week saying what a bad update, nothing in the store etc. etc.
I was going to comment at the time to say that TS missed Populous from their list, but I didn’t bother. It should be on the PSN in the PSOne / PSP full games sections off the top of my head as I was looking in there the other day.
BTW is Ratchet & Clank Quest for Booty getting a disc version in this country?
Comment by Dave Vincent — Sep 27, 2008 @ 6:37 pm
@31 [Dave Vincent]:
“Ratchet & Clank (Future): Quest for Booty” is not being issued on Blu-ray in the UK… in Europe (including Ireland), yes, in the UK… nope.
There’s a fair few listed on eBay at present by a Canadian seller (”gameconsultant”) for GBP 11.99 + GBP 5.99 shipping.
Oddly the images in the listing show a PEGI rating on the cover so you may well be buying a Europe version anyway.

This has to be my most expensive week on PSN, I got burnout and wipeout, both excellent games. Having a game on Hard drive is so good, you don’t have to go look for disc etc, and it’s really convenient to play, much like Warhawk. In fact, ever since I got warhawk, and now burnout and wipeout, I hardly ever use the blu ray disc. So good job sony for putting a piece of equipment i’m not using anymore
That said, already preordered LBP and bioshock, so good times ahead. I love motorstorm, but having 3 racing games is going to strain my gaming time too much… I’ll see how the reviews go before I get the game.
Plus sony, when do we get singstar patch? MY money is waiting for ya…
Comment by ThreeSpeechlover — Sep 27, 2008 @ 9:20 pm
I got it wrong, it’s The Orange Box which is £15 this week, I’m a numpty.
Comment by BaseballFury — Sep 28, 2008 @ 4:28 pm
No worries.
“Half-Life 2: The Orange Box” is £12.89 at SendIt.com, £12.93 at Currys, TheHut.com/Asda-Entertainment.co.uk, if anybody is interested in this.
I had the original “Half-Life” [PS2] & found it one of the worse games I had ever had the misfortune to play.
Still got it… must remember to trade that in somewhere for something else.
Coupled with my bad experience with the previous title, and the fact that Value outsourced development of the PS3 version to Electronic Arts who then added frame rate issues, connection problems in the “Team Fortress 2″ element as well as slow loading times in “Portal”, has put me off buying this, although I do read that many people find it a great game.
