I really wanted Wipeout, whats the latested date rumour on this one?
Comment by Mr Jimmy — Jun 12, 2008 @ 10:47 am
Blimey just noticed the Quake Wars demo - hell yes, that makes it a ‘good update’.
Comment by Mr Jimmy — Jun 12, 2008 @ 10:48 am
I’m disappointed that we haven’t got Novastrike yet, that’s what I’m waiting for, though not as much as Bionic Commando.
Oh well, maybe next week.
Comment by Retro Fan — Jun 12, 2008 @ 10:50 am
WipEout no date, but you’re looking at end August at the earliest!
Quake Wars is very bland, I played the xbox version last night…very grey and brown and boring. Good that it’s on the store though, as I’m sure some people will love it!

Latest rumour for “DUALSHOCK 3″ somewhere in Europe is the first week of July.
PS. I also saw the packaging for the “SingStar Volume 2″ pack bundled with the ‘PlayStation Eye’ today (in a GAME Store).

Nice update. A couple of demos, DLC and a free theme. Some decent PS1 games would be good but I can’t complain. I hope this kind of content will be consistent. Keep it up Sony.
Comment by Matt — Jun 12, 2008 @ 11:17 am
I’m not interested in any of this really. I would have tried the Quake Wars demo if it was out last week or before that, but now I can just play my brother-in-laws copy - not sure it’s that great anyway. Doesn’t really matter I’ve got lego indy to play and more importantly MGS4. Now that should keep me going!

Nothing special, consistent I s’pose. Not really too bothered as I grabbed MGS4 at lunchtime, now just have to stealthily leave the office early and get started on it…

Looks hopeful, maybe we’re finally seeing SCEE getting its arse in gear with some decent comms.
On another note the usual keeps happening:

Quake wars is meant to be poo.
Who needs store updates when you have GTA4, MGS4, MGO and Battlefield:Bad Company demo to keep you going!

Quake Wars got 6 in OPM, with one of the most uncomplimentary reviews I’ve seen in a looooonnnng time. Looks “like a mattress stain” according to them!

@12 [shrui]:
“…KOEI has told Eurogamer that Fatal Inertia EX will arrive a “little later” here than in the US, where it will be available from the PlayStation Store on 19th June.”
Not really sure if that was saying if Europe will see the title on 19 June or later.
FYI:
—
Koei has dropped us a line to let us know that Fatal Inertia EX, originally Fatal Inertia for the Xbox 360, should be hitting the PlayStation network next Thursday, June 19th. The PlayStation 3 release of the game features a retooled flight model for improved handling and faster speeds, as well as an all new racing environment - the Fatal Inertia Proving Grounds - set in the arid desert. Another added bonus for the PS3 is the ability to steer with the SIXAXIS motion sensing controls, a feature that I’ve played for for a few minutes and then immediately turned off in every other PS3 racing game that’s featured it. Who knows, this might be the one!
Fatal Inertia EX will be available in demo form along with the full version, which will set you back $29.99.

North American Release
posted: 06/11/2008
Hello again. Fatal Inertia EX has been available in Japan for a couple of weeks now and a lot of people have been asking when it will be available here. Well, I’m happy to say that the North American version has just gone gold this week and it will be available on the PlayStation Store on June 19th.

From the way I read it America gets it first on the 19th and we have to wait a vague amount of time longer.
I’ve seen the same comments that its not great (at least you get it in demo form first to try out), but I was just highlighting another delay for Europe.
Breaking my own self imposed embargo on complaints about the euro PSN being behind since I’ve now made other arrangements (so SCEE only get money from me when they manage to get a game out in a decent amount of time, Novastrike is ok in my books btw).
Just felt Fatal Inertia needs comment since TS haven’t said anything about it.
Shutting up again.

Hey all, on the couple of posts re Wipeout, it’s the treatment of wipeout fans (me) that’s the reason my PS3 is up for sale.
Out.
Comment by cenTripEtAl — Jun 12, 2008 @ 1:21 pm
Why would you buy a console if the (only) game you wanted to play on it was not available at the time?
That aside, do you have any games for sale and, if so, what are they?

C&C red alert 3 production stopped! (for ps3 only)
eight days cancelled
getaway cancelled
fatal delay for europe!
monster madness delayed
KZ 2 delayed
no home yet
no wipeout STILL!
just to mention a few.
the bad news just does not seem to end.
Comment by manley — Jun 12, 2008 @ 2:00 pm
We got the “Army Of Two” Veteran Pack first!
But yes, I hear you.
I have enough to keep me occupied without worrying about any of the list you quoted.
And, to be fair, it could be worse.
You could have a console with a high[er]-capacity format disc system that has just been shelved, or one where any new items are always out of stock.
Also, if you had a PSP you wouldn’t find any games this month… June for me is a good release time, and I am having to pick & choose what to buy on a budget… but that leaves the other titles for future months on the run-up to the scheduled release dates in November.
Is “WipEout HD” really *that* important?
I’m sure you can survive without it. The tracks are just updated version of the most recent titles in the series anyway.
“Home” may look good, but if it arrives too early & ends up being broken then Sony will never re-gain the audience (if there is one left or there ever was one in the first place).
I was looking forward to “Getaway”, but we still get “The Wheelman”.
And, as for “Eight Days”, isn’t the PS3 seeing a “Pursuit Force” title in the future?
If you want a driving/shooting title, and the least said about “Full Auto 2: Battlelines” the better, then just wait a fortnight & buy “Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Conspiracy”.
I am not dismissing your disappointment, but please put everything into context.
The PS3 is not the Atari Lynx, or the original Nokia N-Gage.
It does, at least, have some titles, some good titles, and some really good titles, already available. You surely cannot have bought &/or played everything to date.

of course you are right, i know that the ps3 is no dreamcast.
and im a loyal customer, what really pissed me off was C&C red alert 3 that was a game that i was really looking forward to, call me a geek but that was the case.
plus i think that sony’s customer relations in this part of the world have been below par at best.
im just having a rant!

absolute rubbish, where is echochrome and wolf of the battlefield which came out in the US last week??.
As a 360 user i can tell you that at least MS has its act together regarding content which 95% of the time comes out worldwide on the same day.

downloading the QuakeWars demo, got cold feet when i went to buy it because of the less than favorable reviews it was getting. hopefully i’ll know later on if i want a copy.
picked up a copy of Skate for £20 today anyways. should keep me busy.
have pre-ordered Bad Company (gold edition) too. that looks like it could be a killer battlefield game, not taking itself to seriously *coff*CoD4*coff* either, which is right up my street.
some other game out today too i hear, Mental Grey Snake or something.. dunno, you may have read something about it somewhere… PSM3 magazine did a big review on it this month, sounded like a bit of a let down from what they wrote. and after seeing a load of gameplay on Playr over the weekend i can’t see what the fuss is about.

Yup, I put an order in for the HMV exclusive “Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Conspiracy” at the end of May & pre-ordered (Amazon exclusive?) “Battlefield: Bad Company (Gold Edition)” last Friday.
I’m not planning on buying the Japanese Old Age Pensioner title either as I saw some game-play videos this week & also couldn’t see anything to get remotely excited about. I don’t think I would even bother if it was half the price by Christmas. It just looked like any other generic shooter. And what was with all the on-screen icons showing you how to get up & lean against walls, and stuff? Perhaps said lead character has ’senior moments’ & needs reminders from time to time what to do.
Still, it means some other network-play servers will be a little less bandwidth-congested this weekend.

I’m not a huge MGS fan but guns of the patriots is excellent
Comment by exprohound — Jun 13, 2008 @ 9:02 am
@34 [exprohound]:
What distinguishes “Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots” from, say, “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare”?
One of the “…Patriots” videos I watched was showing a mortar pipe bomb launcher. To me it looked like more attention was paid to how many dust particles were on-screen rather than the indication of trajectory of where the bomb would land.
Also, the angle, direction, and position at which the character was facing there would be no way he could see over a wall & accurately locate the targets.
Stealth is one thing, but Extrasensory perception
is something else.
Seriously, if you can convince me to try this game I would be very willing to do so, but I do not see the attraction (even as an avid player of first person shooter titles).

1. its NOT a FPS, its a third person stelth game which happens to let you play from the FPS if you want to.
2. They can see though walls because every solider has nano machines which create a wireless network which controls how every people on the battle field acts from there emotions to the information they access. All the armys that are fighting each other are contorlled by one person and he is just doing it so… well better play the game to find out.
Comment by carl — Jun 13, 2008 @ 11:36 am
Thanks, Carl.
1. Sorry, yes, I meant that I am a fan of shooter games, primarily; first-person, but I do have many third-person shooter games across many different platforms. But thanks for confirming you have both options available.
2. No criticism of you, sir, but did you read back what you typed there?
It just sounds way too convoluted. If I want something with action but a ridiculous, far-fetched plot that I have to concentrate on all the way through I’ll watch a movie by John Woo, J.J. Abrams, or the Wachowski brothers. If I want a bit of mindless gaming violence to relax & have fun I’ll play something I don’t have to sit through umpteen cut-scenes for.
It sounds like my viewpoint is in the minority though (based on the few individuals who have mentioned a similar disinterest in this title here at ThreeSpeech.com).
£40 is a lot to spend on something that I may hate, or it may be the best £40 I’ve ever spent.
But £40 is not a trivial amount to spend in a month of other such great classics like…
Kung Fu Panda
!
(I would like to think “The Incredible Hulk” is also going to be great fun, but I suspect not)

Comment by fanpages — Jun 13, 2008 @ 11:52 am
fanpages its all explined in a 5 minute cut sceen near the start of the game.
possible spoiler below!!!!!
I have been playing for 7 hours and there haven’t been any long cut scenes, the longest so far is about 10 minutes which was right at the end of Act one and the cut scene was interactive where you could move around and collect supplies while it was going in.

There’s plenty of dubious postings on this site that look like increasingly desperate Microsoft employees. You can keep the wonders of Vista and clunky unreliability of XBOX 1.5 (that I can now pick up free with a mobile phone but would rather get the bonus GPS device instead). Now with MGS4 out and a multitude of excellent titles available its a struggle to see how people are deciding to sell the PS3 machine because a game hasn’t come out yet. I’m currently having a lot of fun with Drakes fortune something now available for just $40 in Oz, its really enjoyable. Yes, wipeout will be a cool game, but c’mon the PS3 is rapidly oxygenating its tank of fun and I’ve left my PS3 on 24hrsX7days since purchase in May 2007 to run the folding software and its not skipped a beat. This is the Toyota reliability of consoles with Porsche sophistication and Ferrari power. People need to look at the Vista experience and think long and hard before pushing Microsoft as their home entertainment hub of choice, personally I would see it as a nightmare of bloated, buggy software if they extended their near monopoly control of the PC OS into the home theatre room. All they do is buy other companies innovations through acquisition and once they control that market segment they ruthlessly exploit the end users whilst offering little thats new.

This is such a funny article:
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/30863/PS3-set-for-a-software-avalanche
You have to read it to appreciate the level of delusional confidence that Sony currently seems to be showing.
It’s console is WAY behnd Nintendo’s in the States, with recent NPD figures putting the latter as selling three times the amount, at least.
While the DualShock3 is no where to be seen on these shores.
Pathetic.
