As SOCOM fans will probably know Eurogamer has got 6000 (count ‘em, 6000) multiplayer beta keys for SOCOM: Confrontation. Precise details of how the distribution will work should appear on Eurogamer in due course, so you’d be wise to organise yourselves into shifts and start refreshing round the clock.

Bear in mind this batch of keys are UK only, all our readers from further afield should be aware that their specific territories will be distributing keys in different ways (any blogs or sites with confirmed news on SOCOM keys in other territories should post a link in the thread). Ted Price, President and CEO of Insomniac, made an appearance at PlayStation Day. He took the stage during the press conference to talk to us about Resistance 2, a title which was highlighted as being at the cutting edge of using the PlayStation 3’s capability as a multiplayer and co-op games machine. We were shown a brief demo of a pretty intense-looking online battle (up to 60 combatants…) and it certainly left Three Speech wanting more. Have a look at these screens…

SOCOM: Control the Confrontation, ‘the 21st Century game for the 21st Century online soldier’, is coming soon to both the PSN and Blu-ray Disc. You will be able to play online with up to 32 players and in the guise of some of the world’s leading Special Forces including the SAS, the US Navy Seal’s and Spain’s UOE.

As the press release says, ‘Reward your troops not only when they are brave and fearless but when they use intelligence and work as a team. Trawl the world for the best soldiers to strengthen your team as you lead your men against other highly skilled outfits.’
