Current WipEout HD owners who have managed to jump online today will notice that a major update has been implemented. Yep, logging on to the Playstation Network and firing up WipEout HD will cause the game to update itself, fueling your online races with a range of community-based features.
Races will conclude by awarding/naming racers with a range of medals - such as commendations for those with the most aggressive racing to the fastest top speed achieved. The new ranking system will reward regular racers for their persistent minute-shaving reruns.
There’s been a huge amount of other implementations, to learn more check out yesterday’s article or click through to see some screenshots. Eagle-eyed readers will notice that the images are unwatermarked, so feel free to download the full screen ones and use them to adorn your walls.

This is a totally broken update that will stop you playing Wipeout HD altogether and hang your PS3; see the thread on PS3Forums or the comments on the US blog for a fix.
Let’s see if by some miracle my last comment ever on ThreeSpeech actually gets published for real, by the way. Very glad to be seeing the last of it, and I hope the deceptive rejected-comments policy is abandoned on the new site.

I installed the update and it hung at the loading screen :’(

Same here - updated to 1.3 and it now hangs at the save game load screen. Needs a force reboot of the console to get out of it.
Not cool

I had the same lock-up after updating, but the hard reset solved the problem.

Delete your game save, and you’re back up and running! Pooo! I copied the game save to a USB before deleting, so hopefully, when a patch comes out, it’ll be possible to copy it back. Maybe.
Any further news from the StudioLiverpool team?

What a jipp! The same thing happened with the last patch….or was it the launch!? Actually, it was the online mode that was broken for me at launch.
Most developers seem to be able to patch games without trouble, yet a firsts (?) party developer cant??!

It hasn’t locked on my PS3, the old, trusty 60GB model.
However, I do experience occasional lagging, which I’ve never seen before this update, so that might be an issue too.
Also, please edit the badge descriptions that says something in the lines of “Player who got the most pickups/weapons”; change “pickups/weapons” to just “pickups”. Slashes generally look stupid and weaons are of course pickups, but pickups aren’t limited to weapons.
And last, but definitely not least:
1) “LittleBigPlanet-like” two-player-account-selection,
2) Integration with Home game launching, and perhaps
3) Video recording.
If those features were implemented, WipEout would — together with it’s already implemented trophies, 60fps full-hd, online play, split-screen play — truely be next-gen, raise the bar, become the yard stick, etc. etc. because it has all the possible features a PS3 game could ask for =)

a quick solution to freezes: sign out of PSN, boot up game, then log back in… seems to have done the trick for me.. totally not cool though, I got very upset..

Totally not cool!
@ Zta
I have a 60gig unit so i dont think its down to hardware….its most likely corruption on the game file….the solution they will officially come out with will be: Delete the game off your HDD. Re-download from the store. Re-install the patch.
pffffft

Hmmm Neon Kitten weren’t too impressed were they? don’t think 3 speech will be on her christmas card list!
Wipeout Hung after I updated on the 60GB model aswell, but turn off and back on and all sorted!
