More news on the EU blog just in from SCEE, who said:
“The blog will be launched in English first, with French, Italian, German and Spanish versions to follow soon after. There will be a period between the closure of ThreeSpeech and the launch of the EU blog, during this time please check PlayStation.com and the official forums for news and updates on all that is going on in the world of PlayStation.
We’ll keep you posted with more information about the blog as soon as we have it”
Where will we go to mingle now! I hope the new blog is up to it.

Are you able to say why there is gonna be a break between the launch of the official ps3 blog and threespeech shutting down?
Comment by RSA-Ace — Apr 9, 2009 @ 6:23 pm
or check http://threespeech.co.cc heheh
mingling allowed until official EU site up and running
Comment by mobiletone — Apr 9, 2009 @ 6:35 pm
Come on, for Christ sake. You and I BOTH know that “summer” in Sony Europe’s terms is actually summer 2010.
As much as I want a PS EU blog, I would rater they keep threespeech up until a day or 2 before the closure. We ALL know SCEE will screw this transition up.

I am flabbergasted that they will shut TS down next week and we won’t have a replacement until July or September!!!
Not a good start SCEE, I must say.

I have lots on my mind about all this. I don’t think there’s any point me posting my questions here directly to Three Speech because I’m guessing they’re probably not at liberty to answer them anyway.

Pingback by European PlayStation Blog to get multi-language versions - Talk Playstation — Apr 10, 2009 @ 2:19 pm
Don’t do the translations for europe.
It’s a big failure of the game industry that they think gamers want games in their own language.
First of all, everybody in europe who play games speak, read & write in english just fine.
Secondly we’re pretty much disgusted by the game industry to gice us games 6 months later than english versions because you want to localize the games. And what happens when the game eventually gets into the store? We buy the english version because english is not a problem and all the previews, reviews, hints, walkthroughs etc on the net are in (guess what) ENGLISH.
Comment by P5ycH0 — Apr 10, 2009 @ 3:28 pm
Great, the EU blog hasn’t even started yet and already they are messing it up!
ThreeSpeech is closing on 17th April - the blog launches ‘Summer’, which could be anything up to the end of September!!!!! We could be looking at up to 6 months with no kind of EU based official PS3 coverage!!!!!
Why kill ThreeSpeech if the replacement isn’t ready? It’s not even launched yet, and already it’s a disaster!!! Once again SCEE make a wrong decision!
And God help us when we need to wait for them to translate content into French, Italian, German and Spanish! We may as well just use the US Official Blog, because any news of note will likely appear there long before the EU blog translate it. What’s up with just using Google Translate or some other automatic translating tool?
There’s a big contingent of Spanish speakers in the USA, in some States (Puerto Rico) it is an official language. But you don’t see the US blog translating everything to keep everyone happy!
I think it’s fair to say most Europeans speak English, this is always the problem with SCEE they’re always spreading themselves too thinly! From an entirely selfish point of view I think the UK would be a lot better off if they were managed separately by SCEUK…
You don’t see Major Nelson’s blog being translated into a dozen languages for example…
Comment by Apnomis — Apr 10, 2009 @ 8:29 pm
Looking at the Archives, ThreeSpeech launched in September, so I’m guessing they must have contract renewals every 6 months or something. Why not renew CrowdDNA’s contract for a further 6 months (to take them to 3 full years) and then the official blog could take over straight away without this ‘gap’. Is SCEE really that pressed for cash?
Comment by Apnomis — Apr 10, 2009 @ 8:40 pm
If sense existed at SCEE they’d keep TS going anyone. FACTs on one site, community on the other

Funny how the consensus of opinion over the past 2+ years has been that an official UK/European blog is needed & ThreeSpeech is a waste of web space, but now many (who have not commented here before) are coming forward to say how much this semi-official blog will be missed!
I am guessing that my suggestion of negotiating the purchase of the domain name and, optionally, the existing content at ThreeSpeech.com, will not be taken up, but the offer is still there if anybody at Sony is reading…

it’s ok guys i’m sure that sony will release as early in the summer as possible! thats what my friends say anyway, and they know loads about games… remember that may is basically summer, and that’s in less than a month.. so i expect a new blog in about 3 weeks. and have you seen the usa blog? it’s always regularly updated and full of great content, and that is what the new one will be from day one! can’t wait!

Comment by HenryMax — Apr 14, 2009 @ 5:48 pm
I’ve always been a lurker who lets off little snippets of vocab once in awhile, so my only real concern about an official EU blog is this: Will it have the same “no log-in” style of interface as TS?
I’ve enjoyed being able to smear the name of Sketch by tickling other TS users willies under his guise, without the need of setting up a whole false account to do so.
Comment by The-Unknown — Apr 15, 2009 @ 9:10 am
I will miss the way Threespeech used to bury bad news announcements under a deluge of utter trivial nonsense to knock the negative news off the top of the blog.
Comment by Ton Capone — Apr 15, 2009 @ 8:40 pm
@ mobiletone:
Some might say the so-called golden age of the PS3 never even started!
Delayed launch, extortionate price, no BC, no Dual Shock at launch, lacklustre games line-up, haemorrhaging exclusives, PSP under-supported, while Home s**ks and it’s not even out yet!
@ Ton Capone:
ThreeSpeech has always been at the end of a fairly short Sony leash, so don’t expect them to have done anything BUT burying in the past!
And to be honest, my friend, I don’t see that changing in the future - when this so-called ‘official’ blog will commence (although, as many people on here and elsewhere, I’m not holding my breath as to when that will happen). In fact, if anything the propaganda machine will really crank up then, I think, with little response from Sony to slag-offs-aplenty from the generally disillusioned, unhappy and extorted customers; aka PS3 owners!
Goodbye, ThreeSpeech and good riddance!
Over & Out.

I suggest the opportunity to insert the “SMART” view option among the others included in PLAYTV firmware.
It’s very useful to avoid screen deformation when watching 4:3 tv programs.
Comment by joespielberg — Apr 17, 2009 @ 7:55 am
IMO I think Sony have really dropped the ball this time round. It almost appears that they are sleeping while the other console manufacturers are trying everything to get new sales.
We all know how Nintendo have faired this generation, and fair play to them.
Dare I say it, but Microsoft even seem to have hit the nail on the head, albeit with a questionable quality console that does seem to be becoming more stable.
Sony on the other hand don’t seem to be bothered. As someone earlier stated, there’s a lacklustre number of games, Home just doesn’t seem to know what it is or what direction it’s going. The PSN store has been a veritable wasteland for some time! They seem to have created a behemoth of a machine technically, but lack the balls to do anything with it! Sony don’t seem to have covered the basics such as online communication, a standard lobby system throughout all games (a la Xbox Live lobby systems).
It’s a shame, I’ve loved playing on sony consoles since the PSX, but now, my shiny upgraded PS3 just sits there gathering dust in comparison to my other consoles. Even my DS gets more of a look in lately!
I don’t want promises of games that are coming, I’ve had my PS3 for well over a year and half, but to look at my games collection, you wouldn’t think so!
Get it sorted Sony, start delivering or face the inevitable!
I hope they can redeem themselves with a seamless transition from Three Speech to Official Blog, alas, I think we all know how this is going to go down……
Comment by M0nk3y_R1mm3r — Apr 17, 2009 @ 8:14 am
@ M0nk3y_R1mm3r, that’s an overly harsh assessment I would say, it’s easy to come from comparative console failures and claim success (especially when you launch 12-18 months early!), just as it’s easy to critise a console coming on the back of a phenomally successful one like the PS2.
This argument about lack of games really bugs me too, it may have been somewhat true at launch but nowadays it’s a complete fallacy - the fact is nearly every major game release is available on the PS3 and in addition they have without doubt the best first party game development support of any of the current generation of consoles - and in this new gaming world where economics means 3rd party games are a thing of the past (let’s not forget even the mighty EA Sports franchises were PlayStation exclusives at one point) that is a crucial differentiator, and it baffles me that people can’t see it. Each new PS3 sold will continue to add $$ to the figure on the cheques MS use to pay for their big games - and what happens when that number becomes too large, or they realise it simply doesn’t work ($50M for the GTA DLC has got to be the biggest waste of money ever when you look at how much, or rather how little, it helped them gain market share).
Also let’s not forget Sony are not primarily a software company, and personally I think Sony have done an amazing job with the XMB and PSN. It may lack a few finishing touches (some of which may be a result of MS patents), but what they’ve built up over the last couple of years is truely amazing. I personally prefer Sony’s open ended approach rather than MS’s restrictive ‘walled garden’ approach. So all the menus don’t look the same game to game - big deal - what it allows the developers to do is innovate - be it huge expansion packs for UT3, 256-player MMO FPS games, or 32 player online FPS games with full website integration and replay features - the ability to give the devs more freedom breeds innovation which ultimately provides a better service to the consumer. Yes on MS you pay a fixed fee and get a fixed service - but what have they done that is truely innovative in that space in the last 3 years - there are drawbacks to having a uniform service.
As for the PSN, it is true that the EU normally get the shaft compared to other regions, but that will change eventually (and it took MS a long time to bring all their features to the EU market as well, with some like NetFlix still not available outside the US). I personally discount Shovelware when comparing stores, the PSN may have less content overall but for my money it has more gems - like Flower or PixelJunk Monsters or Everyday Shooter etc. This is only likely to continue with the very attractive offer Sony is giving to new indie devs in return for PSN exclusivity.
Two things will happen with the PS3 - either people will break out of their internet media fuelled hypnotic trance that says MS can’t put a foot wrong and the PS3 has no games and is too expensive (don’t even get me started on that one!). Or it will finished 3rd and people will look back fondly on what in hindsight was a better console that was treated harshly by fanboys because of some unwritten rule that the same manufacturer can’t have 3 successful consoles on the run. I honestly believe that history will treat the PS3 far more kindly than it will treat the Xbox 360 and it’s shoddy (rushed to gain market share) hardware. Whenever I look at MS and their various press releases and blogs I can’t help but think all their claimed success this generation is just smoke and mirrors…
I will end this rant (likely my final ever rant on ThreeSpeech, *sniff*) with a list of 2009/10 exclusive games confirmed for the PS3 (courtesy of VGChartz):

So M0nk3y_R1mm3r ‘lacklustre number of games’, are you sure about that? I’d say PS3 owners are spoiled for choice really, and these are just the ones that have been confirmed so far!
Oh and finally, can anyone say ‘3rd year price cut’, fanboys who run internet blogs seem to have very short memories - but the 360 was on very shakey ground last year until they drasically reduced the price of their console and paid multi-millions on a blanket TV advertising campaign to rescue it’s flagging sales. Let’s not forget that the PS3 is yet to reach that point yet (remember the headstart for the 360 folks) so when they do reach that point what makes you think it wouldn’t have the game effect for Sony? Take a look at the Hardware From Launch graphs over at VGChartz and compare the PS3 with the PS2 and the 360, they make for interesting viewing…

@ reakt:
With so many delays and false starts to Home, I thought it was still in beta - that’s what I meant by “not out yet”, actually - but it seems they slipped it out through the back door eventually tail end of last year (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/playstation-home-now-open-to-all), so I stand corrected on that.
And if you think 4 months is “ages ago”, then hahah back in your face!
