Just been in it, pretty interesting I must say. For some reason I first thought half life or portal. I wonder how it all plays out.

What’s in the box?

I’ve been waiting for that graffiti thing to activate for a while now. This sounds like it could be quite interesting and may be the type of hook Home needs to get people visiting regularly. The US Blog describes it as follows:
The world’s first console-based Alternate Reality Game starts today in PlayStation Home.
Called Xi , the adventure takes place in a series of secret areas in Home – and beyond – changing day by day, week by week, in real time. Anyone with a PLAYSTATION 3 can join in the fun for free.
Sounds like Home’s answer to LOST, i.e. something you keep interested in even though you’ve not got the faintest idea what’s going on!!!

Well it completely broke the Home servers as far as I could see, I guess Sony under-estimated the demand! Got on eventually though, and I think I did all the ‘missions’ available so far.
As a concept I quite like it, the idea that some other ‘person’ in Home is talking to you over the mic system (which he obviously hacked since Sony have turned it off in public spaces!) is a good one, it would be good if it worked like that KZ2 webgame and he could just pop up anywhere in Home and ask you to do a random mission - like how you need to clap at the notice board etc.
I’m also intrigued to know if Amazon see an increase in sales of *that* album (I’ll not spoil the first mission for you!). I wonder if either Amazon paid to be included or *that* band did, or if Sony just picked an obscure one that would be easy to monitor sales increases on - what better way to prove to potential investors that Home works?
I also like how they’ve finally done away with being too ‘real life’ and allow lot’s of people to crowd around a screen and use the internet - it would be so annoying if it was one person per screen - this is how all the arcade games should work in Home too - virtual queuing up for a go? I think not!
I definitely think it would be worth popping back at least once a week. I quite like those kind of ‘treasure hunt’ type games where you need to link clues together to come up with the answer, and using real websites is a nice touch - no doubt next thing you’ll be getting addresses that you’ll have to look up on either Google Earth or Street View (or visit!) to find a landmark or something!
@ E-ROLE the woman over the tannoy that introduces you to the Hub sounds very much like the woman that introduces you to Portal, I noticed it too.

At first it reminded me about Myst, which I recently completed on my PSP. But after a quiz or two the game seems to be .. nothing more than that: a series of quizzes. The goal is probably to open the door at the back of the large room, but the story is barely non-existing. Anyway, that’s how I felt after an hour with XI .. or 11 .. or psi .. or Xtreme Innovation!
Btw: I miss Myst. I’d never played it before, and it blew my socks off right from the intro. SCE: Please re-release all Myst games on PSN for PS3 (and PSP where possible).

@Zta
No need!
You should still be able to find copies of Myst, its sequel RIVEN on psone/PC.
Myst3:exile was made available on PS2 and PC - seen copies going for £5 =)
Myst4: revalation PC for 2 for £15 at game
Myst5 (was alright, not my favourite) can be nabbed for about 12.50 PC.
None of them require an “uber” pc so you should be able to run them =)

Wish I had the internet in my new house already - damn virgin media, damn you.
Anyway - I like Home but its still missing some of the core features in my opinion….mainly game launching for such first party titles as LBP, KZ2, MS:PR etc
oh…and if I see one mores “running man” im gonna hurt something.

@elephant_stone,
More game launching from Home, cross-game chat and audio messaging all coming in 2.70 according to recent reports. One of the quotes is from a developer who claims to have got it on Monday.

@marvzilla
a virtual world full of midgets sounds like a fantastic idea!
should have ‘in bruge’ showing on the virtual screens…don’t think I’ve ever seen a film that contains so much dwarf-related humour.
Comment by hobojoe — Mar 26, 2009 @ 10:15 pm
@hobojoe - ‘In Bruges’ has some brilliant midget/dwarf jokes, I think I’m gonna have to watch it again.
‘People going around calling you a midget when you want to be called a dwarf. Of course you’re going to blow your head off. ‘
