i think Sony should really stop charging devs/publishers for hosting demos on the Store.

No classic costume pack for SFIV?! W.. T… F..?!?!
We already lag a week behind and SCEE fails on such a simple task, prolly gonna end up like all the DLC for Megaman 9 we never got….
Comment by Stiekem — Mar 26, 2009 @ 7:08 pm
Yep but apparently the Titan pack is F***ked the thoughts are they have accidentally posted the US version.
Comment by xxShadowsFallxx — Mar 26, 2009 @ 7:09 pm
@tone my view is that if it keeps the PSN free for us then they have too look at valid ways to make money, I dont necessarily agree with it. But on the other hand to keep the PSN free they have to look at other ways to make money and pass on the costs to other people.
Has it actually been confirmed what these costs are?
They could instead turn around and charge a nominal amount for demos, which to be honest they would have looked at first before going down this route lets face it.
Anyway dont companies usually pay to put demo’s on the magazines discs?
Remember a few years ago the whole ‘Make xbox live free’ campaign well to me its swings and round-a-bouts.
Comment by xxShadowsFallxx — Mar 26, 2009 @ 7:17 pm
Yep, the multi-delayed UT3 Titan Pack doesn’t do anything at all. Just downloads, installs, and makes no difference at all to the game.

‘tone/marv’/Three Speech:
Do you know when the rest of us (mere mortals can) expect to be able to download “Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic”?
(A few of students at the two martial arts academies where I assist with instruction are looking forward to the game)
Do you also know if it will (also) have a Playable Demo version (unlike “Burn Zombie Burn”)?
Maybe it’ll be on the US ‘Store this evening…?
The (UK/EU) PlayStation dot com page still states a release date of “TBC”:

@fp - I think the rest of the world gets to play FoP on April 9th, there was a post about it on the us playstation blog earlier in the week. Its definately worth picking up, cheers TS
Can’t believe that the Unreal Titan pack is screwed up again, I was gutted last week when it didn’t show but after waiting for the 555mb download to finish last night for it not to work I was somewhat seething and I’m sure Epic are even more peeved.
Sort it out!
Do we get worms next week? I saw it was in the US update last night
Comment by marvzilla — Mar 27, 2009 @ 9:16 am
Yeah add me to the highly narked UT3 players list…
I’m usually pretty forgiving about these sorts of things, but it’s not even like there’s an error or anything - just that moment of realisation after hunting around the menus for a few minutes and finding that absolutely naff all has happened. As someone over at the Epic forums pointed out, they should at least take the non-working pack off the store…
It’s even worse now i’m living in New Nealand where they have really archaic usage limits. Downloading 500MB+ of nothingness is more than just a waste of my time, it’s a noticable chunk out of my monthly 20GB allowance. “Grrrrr” springs to mind…

Surely that is not Magic Carpet of Peter Molyneux fame, is it? Someone get Syndicate onto the PSN, STAT!
Btw, anyone here want to start a game company writing PSN games? Sony is offering cash incentives for indie developer who write games for the PSN.
Some info here - http://kotaku.com/5186384/sony-offering-better-terms-cash-money-for-psn-developers
For the tidy price of £1500, Sony will throw in the PhyreEngine , which was used in games such as flOwer and a few others, it can’t be a bad starting point as PhyreEngine also works on PC.

Wow no pay-for content for Skate 2 this week. I guess that barrel is finally scraped clean!
Will definitely check out the videos. What’s that zomby game all about? Demo please! And I agree with Mobiletone - Sony shouldn’t be charging devs / publishers to host demos on the store. Particularly when the demo is for a game that can also be bought on the store (and in that case, Sony make money on the sale!)
Comment by reakt — Mar 27, 2009 @ 1:05 pm
@ xxShadowsFallxx - they’re charging 16p a gig from what i remember and i know that doesn’t sound alot, but take for example the free Midnight Club map pack, that would have cost them around £400,000 in cold hard cash from downloads alone.
i would have no problem paying 50p for a decent game demo/free content, hell Sony are chipping away at our banks every week so what does it matter?
anybody else have views on this?

Thanks. I was aware that various US-based sites are quoting 9 April, but not sure if this was being matched in Europe or not.
PS. All: Interesting developments?…

Sony to match dev budgets in return for exclusivity
Matt Martin
26/03/2009 23:19 (BST)
Sony has kicked off a scheme today which will see it match the development budget of self-published games in return for PlayStation exclusivity.
The first game to take advantage of this deal is Doublesix’s Burn Zombie Burn, which goes live via the PlayStation Network today, with Sony indicating it’s “looking for a great many more titles” to take advantage of the fund.
“It’s all very well for us as platform holders to say ‘put all your money into PlayStation Network, it’s a fantastic idea’, but are we prepared to put or money where our mouth is? The answer is yes,” Chris Eden, Sony’s development relations manager, told an audience at the Game Developers Conference today.
“We’re looking for a number of great games, and in return for exclusivity we’ll match your development budget with guaranteed royalties,” he said.
The scheme, called the Pub Fund, is a realisation of comments made to GamesIndustry.biz last year by Sony’s David Reeves, who said that while exclusive deals with publishers is probably a thing of the past, there’s scope for such a relationship with the development community.
Eden added that Sony is not buying titles directly from developers, and IP rights and control of any games will remain in the hands of the teams that create them.
“A really important thing to point out is that this is not first-party publishing, this is not Sony buying your product,” he said.
“You’ll be the publisher, you’ll own the IP and you’ll control your product. This is assisting you to make your next step from developer to publisher.”

@fp - I can’t link to the US PS blog post about FoP but the developer interviewed states simultanious eu/us release for April 9th though SCEE may have other ideas
Comment by marvzilla — Mar 30, 2009 @ 12:09 pm
Does anyone know if Burn Zombie Burn is worth getting? I’d much prefer to try a demo of PSN titles before parting with cash, or is that the idea, trap us into spending money on games we’re likely to play once using the mantra “It’s only a fiver…. go on then!”

I’d like to know if BZB is any good as well, I was gonna pick it up but bought Worms off the US store instead as it was much less of a stab in the dark, Worms being Worms after all!
