System 3 has been in touch with some info on the new SuperCar Challange…
System 3 invites racing fans to prepare themselves for a superb year of Formula 1 racing, with all the action kicking off this weekend in Melbourne, Australia. It’s anybody’s game in these early stages as energy recovery systems, slick tyres and frill-free bodywork throws the ball into the court of any racing team quick enough to take advantage of the new 2009 regulations.
One thing’s for sure though; we’ll have a definite idea of which team has got what it takes by the time the British GP comes around on June 21st. And what better way of preparing yourselves for some awesome weekends of European summer racing than by throwing a McLaren F1 around the corners of Silverstone, Nürburgring, Spa and Monza? You can do just that in System 3’s SuperCar Challenge, which is set to launch just in time for gamers to become Silverstone pros. And with the unrivalled handling engine and superb attention to detail found in SuperCar Challenge’s cars and tracks, you can be sure that your experience will be as close to the real thing as is possible in a videogame.
Gamers will be invited to battle in 16-player online races and take part in specific GP track competitions (Silverstone, Nürburgring, Spa and Monza) with winners picking up top prizes such as tickets to Formula 1 race events!
SuperCar Challenge features some of the greatest vehicles and racing circuits the world has to offer as well as critically acclaimed car handling, realistic rain conditions, track tutorials and voiceovers from Tiff Needell, an in-depth Career mode, intricate decal & livery customization tools and 16-player online battles. SuperCar Challenge will launch in Q2 2009.

am tempted by this but it’s looking a little too much like GRiD, though less arcadey i must admit, (along with NFS: SHiFT) and it’s too close to FUEL’s release date too. my money is going to the Codesters again. any more news on DiRT2?

mobiletone - this is about as far from GRID as you can possibly get. It’s a proper realistic racer and the action is MUCH more exciting than GRID.

@ Neil - if it’s anything like Ferrari Challenge i’ll be needing another new joypad
i did say it was less arcadey than GRiD but SCC has included arcade modes with this version too so it CAN play like GriD if you want it to, or it can be a super hardcore fall off the track at every turn game too if you so desire.

If this game plays like Ferrari challenge, it’s going to be unbearable. Wish it was more arcadey than sim like.

Just went to preorder this (No GT5 until 2016? McLaren F1? Nürburgring? Spa? Woohoooo!!) yet none of the major retailers seems to know this title exists….
I agree, the only similarity between this and GRID seems to be that you get to drive a car. And unlike GRID et al, I’m sure this will not have dodgy driving physics - in particular the diabolical, so-80s central-pivot steering - so beloved of CodeMasters.

Hmmm…
The ‘Ring is the short, forgetable GP track. Plus, this game is nothing more than Ferrari Challenge 2.0 - most of the cars are the same, most of the tracks are the same, the only real difference - apart from a handful of notable new cars - appears to be improvements to the AI and difficulty settings which they should have got right in the first place or patched in soon after release.
Only buy if you haven’t already paid for Ferrari Challenge.

the difference being GRiD was fun,
and Ferrari (dodgy driving physics) Challenge was a Nightmare.
GT5 has the handling spot on for console driving.

With a properly dialed in FFB wheel (preferably the G25), GRID is the most fun racer as of yet on the PS3 (the 360 version doesn’t support wheel). The speed is arcade but I find the handling is on par with GT4. I love FC as well but the car lacks precision and tightness that one would expect from a Ferrari. It still has a decent physics but I find GT5P interpretation of the F430 to be closer to what a supercar should behave. Hopefully in SCC, the physics and the handling will undergo minor modification. NFS:Shift is sounding to me to be the most complete racer.
