This exciting news just in from Sony…
Now you can really cut loose when playing SingStar, ’cause wireless mics are on their way! At last you can leap from chair to chair and slide across the carpet on your knees without worrying about getting tangled up, adding a whole new level of theatrics to every song.
There’s more though…
SingStar Pop Edition (which is released at the same time as the wireless mics) will feature voice control, meaning that you can bark orders at your PS3 like a diva and it will obey! It won’t be able to answer your ridiculous rider demands, but it will line up songs for you and allow you to shop and search through your SingStar carousel. Pretty nifty stuff…

Whenever I play singstar I lose all credibility, respect and confidence for my wellbeing….and also cease becoming a man and instead turn into a sissy sketch with bad vocals

I have two questions:
1) How much will the wireless mics be?
2) Will the voice-control functionality be implemented into the previous versions of Singstar on the PS3 via a software update?

nice, but two years too late. if i’m going to inflict my singing on anyone it’ll be down the pub after 6 pints

Store update is a bit poor unless you want to buy old PSP games or some new cars for BurnUp: Putricide. i wonder if/when the ‘South Side’ map pack will drop for Midnight Club.

What I’m interested in is: Will SCE use bluetooth, or are they going to bother PS3 users with some halfbaked solution where an extra RF dongle is to be sequeezed into the -3 available USB ports. Yes, yes, I know the PS2 doesn’t have bluetooth. But then put an expensive “PlayStation”-branded bluetooth dongle on sale, or let users buy one - they’re so cheap *and* extremely small: http://tinyurl.com/tinyusb

I’d expect them to be modelled on the official headset, so very nice piece of kit, but very quiet in use… :p

SingStar is not my thing, but to be perfectly honest I’m amazed these weren’t standard when it first launched on PS3. There clearly must have been a technical issue that they’ve only just sorted out, because that’s the only reason I can think of for selling wired mics with the PS3 version…
Comment by Apnomis — Feb 20, 2009 @ 12:40 am
I have these mics and they’re with a dongle. They work amazingly well though.
Comment by katamari-ball — Feb 20, 2009 @ 11:05 am
Yeah the ones that were sent out to be tested had a dongle!
I have ten USB ports with my hubs

Well, it’s nice to finally know they are coming, but after nearly 2 years and not even a style change. Compared to the 360 ones for it’s Song game, these look unbelieveably boring now in comparison.
Still, I’m sure they’ll sell by the bucket load.
Waits for someone to bring out a much better looking alternative.

#10, Apnomis: My thoughts exactly. And apparently SCE haven’t been able to fix the issues, since they’ve resorted to a dongle solution. It’s very sad and rather little pathetic =(.
Now we can wait for some 3rd party to bring the real (bluetooth!) microphones to the market. Or maybe SCE will deliver them in a few months, like they brought us rumble.

I would also like to know how much these will be as they are a day one purchase for me, just need to know how much to budget for these

After my ps3 console broke and sony replace it, they didn’t put 18 of my singstore songs avaiable, and after 5 months i receive an email saying that:
“You are not in this territory so we don’t have to make nothing.”
What the hell! You stay we my money, but don’t give me the musics. This is like sony works.
I will never buy any new microphones for Singstar, and will never ever buy new singstore songs. A month ago, after Scee told me either they will not fix my situation, i decide buy Lips to xbox360, and look on that, the micros are better and the singing is actually fun.
This is a warning for everyone, be careful with sony, they will stay with your money and tell you to go to hell.
