We all love it, it’s won tons of awards and now the epic Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is going to be re-released as part of the Platinum range on March 5th.
Remember folks, you get Metal Gear Online on the same Blu-Ray disc, making this a bargain that will spoken of for generations to come. If you haven’t already got it – now’s your chance to add it to your PS3 library!
The covers for the Platinum line games are atrocious!
Comment by Spedfrom — Feb 17, 2009 @ 1:02 pm
If there is someone out there crazy enough not to have this master piece, then I suggest you buy the best game on the PS3, if not of this generation.
Comment by E-ROLE — Feb 17, 2009 @ 1:31 pm
Damned well deserves it too! MGS4 was a visual and narrative masterpiece - the more exposure and recognition the better!
And as E-Role stated…the covers are butt ugly
Comment by JohnSketch — Feb 17, 2009 @ 2:34 pm
I agree with E-ROLE there really isn’t any excuse for not owning this already, unless of course you’re new to PS3.
I don’t find the Platinum cases that bad, they’re supposed to be eye catching and if you cared enough about the game to want a fancy case you would have got the game before it went to Platinum! I do like the silver plastic they use for the cases though.
In general Platinum titles seem less relevant this gen, with the ‘credit crunch’ in full force you can get a lot of great games for under £20 a month or so after their release on websites like play.com!
The more important question though is does the rule about compulsory trophies for all game releases in 2009 still apply to re-releases of 2008 games? Do Konami have a nice surprise patch coming out in March to correspond with the Platinum version’s release? (I can dream!)
Speaking of trophy patches, it has been confirmed that Tomb Raider Underworld will receive a trophy patch in the near future! I’m glad I put off playing through it now!
Comment by Apnomis — Feb 17, 2009 @ 2:38 pm
Would be nice if the Platinum edition came with a Platinum Trophy or Gold or Silver or even a Bronze.
Comment by Sinlock — Feb 17, 2009 @ 3:56 pm
@Apnomis - I’ll look forward to the trophy patch to Tomb Raider. I found the beginning bit very tedious, swimming around looking for a flippin’ entrance! I gave up but with trophies as an incentive - who knows!
As for MGS 4 - I have it but I haven’t played through it. I’ve played through the other MGS games and really enjoyed them. With #4 I got bored after a few hours in. I know that’s a bit controversial!

“Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” (Game of the Year Edition) must be a contender for an imminent Platinum title as it has just dropped to £19.99 at GAME/GameStation/GamePlay dot co dot uk.
Hopefully then “Call of Duty: World at War” may drop in price a little.
PS. I’ve just seen “Mirror’s Edge” & “Dead Space” on the shelves in Sainsbury’s (supermarket) for £15!
“Score International Baja 1000″ was £14.97 but the less said about that the better.

er… it’s been 17.95 in my local BlockBusters for months now.

A great news for a great game!

Your Blockbuster store is an exception, though, I think ‘tone. You’ve mentioned some crackin’ deals before that don’t seem to be mirrored across the rest of the UK.
Talking of deals though…

“Noby Noby Boy” this Thursday as previously discussed… but at a wallet-friendly GBP 3.19.
Surely some mistake.

Im not really a huge fan of MGS4 - i personally loath the fact that Mr Kojima cannot seem to explain a story without a huge series of lengthy cutscenes. The part where Octacon cries (he’s a bit of a whingebag isnt he?) goes overboard with the cringeness..i think a lot of it is unneccessary. By the end of the game i was screaming for it to be over.
In between those irriatating scenes the gameplay itself was brilliant and definietly the best of the series. Nice boss battles and some cracking graphics..reminds me a lot of LOTR, looks nice and epic n all, but boring as hell!!
Comment by Paul Mc — Feb 18, 2009 @ 8:49 am
Just wish there was a theatre mode ala Substance… Sometimes just wanna watch some cut scenes again…
*strokes his Pal LE version*

@ reakt - I was the same, got it for XMas with Prince of Persia and MotorStorm 2, played it for about an hour swimming about looking for the door bell or whatever it was I needed, and then when I realised it didn’t even have trophies I thought ‘you know what, I think I’ll give PoP a try instead’. Since then I’ve not had time to revisit it, but trophies may be enough of a pull - I always fancy my chances at Platinum in single-player games!
As for MGS4 you should stick with it, skip the cut-scenes if you have to. It get’s MUCH better towards the end. I personally loved the European level and bike chase, and the return to Shadow Moses and the subsequent boss battles are probably some of the greatest moments in gaming (especial for fans of the series)!!!
@ Fanpages, thanks for the price update. I had no intension of getting NobyNobyBoy (WTF?) but for £3.19 I’ll get it for the hell of it!!!! More 3 quid games please SCEE! May also pick up the Burnout Cars too, £6.29 = £1.57 per car which isn’t obscene I suppose, especially given all the free stuff they offered last year. Doesn’t bode well for the price of the Island though if a few cars come to £6! As a bonus the cars each have a Bronze trophy associated with them though!
Comment by Apnomis — Feb 18, 2009 @ 11:31 am
@Apnomis - I shall give MGS4 another go then. Surprisingly my girlfriend has been nagging me to play it with her again. She doesn’t want to play anything else. I thought she would prefer little big planet, but no.
Comment by reakt — Feb 18, 2009 @ 11:40 am
Haven’t got it but if they add Trophies I’ll probably buy it
Comment by CSH — Feb 18, 2009 @ 11:48 am
Mr.Monkey I WANT YOUR LE!!!!!!!
Comment by E-ROLE — Feb 18, 2009 @ 11:50 am
@ Carl - WOW so 2 people seem to think the ending was too long and boring? WHAT ARE THE ODDS???
Comment by Paul Mc — Feb 18, 2009 @ 1:27 pm
@Monkey
I Laugh at your PAL LE and take out MY NTSC LE!!!!!
PAL LE = £80 (roughly)
NTSC LE = £43 (at exchange rate at the time + shipping)
I then couldn’t wait for the damned thing to arrive so I additionally bought a Pal copy (normal).
So I have 2 copies for a sum £84 (roughly) =)
MUAAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA!
I am soooo Konamis Bitch *cries*
Comment by JohnSketch — Feb 18, 2009 @ 4:24 pm
Actually I’m not happy with my LE. It arrived with a scratch on the inside of the box, on the front display window. I rang Play same day it arrived, said nowt they could do, ring Konami…
So I did, they said sorry all stock was issued to Play, so I wrote to Kotaku… But they never got back to me. =(
I’ve just learned to live with it, might buy a replacement one day.
I also spent a fiver for the dvd that you got FREE when you preordered @ Game… Must be the nanomachines clouding our judgement Sketch
