What a let down!
Been waiting for this for over a year & I’ve finished it 4hours & 12mins !!!! wtf?
The ending is a big disappointment, it just gets worse as the game goes on . . . . back to C.O.D.

Gonna give it a whirl again before I get stuck into the online madness tonight!!

graphics are insane, exceeds my high expectations by wide margin! 2nd level opening made made me not wanna play further! i dont think im ready for the most awesome game on the planet! put few hours online, and its flawless!
Comment by Farhan — Feb 27, 2009 @ 12:33 pm
Playing it on Veteran, the A.I is top class.
Playing it on anything lower than that at first is pointless.
Comment by Joe — Feb 27, 2009 @ 12:42 pm
Enjoying it a lot. Though I haven’t managed to play online yet. I get a “Synchronising with other players” or some message, but it gets no further, and I have to reboot. Poo! Hopefully just a glitch for launch day. Single player game is rather nice. Didn’t like the vehicular bits, thought they were a distraction from the FPS, but they serve up a nice mix. Had a laugh at the snipery bridge bit, where I managed to clear to the end, turned, and was mown down by my guys in a buggy. Ha ha ha! I put it down while on the roof with a flying gun thingmy.
I can’t get enough of it. Even the skirmish off line multiplayer bit against bots is ace. The enemy ain’t stupid.
In five hours or so, I’ll be back to Helghan, so perhaps tonight I’ll be able to get online. See you there guys.
Comment by LordOfRuin — Feb 27, 2009 @ 12:49 pm
And, while I’m thinking about it, I think that this may well be a title that could sell consoles. Let’s hope non PS3 users get to hear about it, see it, and hopefull want it.
I’d like to know what a predominantly X360 player thinks about it. I’m not talking about the fanboy, they’ll always find something to complain about, but the guys who really enjoy their gaming, and have been waiting to see a PS3 title that distracts them from the 360. I think it does the job, but do they?
Comment by LordOfRuin — Feb 27, 2009 @ 12:56 pm
I’ve got the game
But it’s at the Post Office
I’m still undecided about whether to jump straight into the multiplayer, like I did with CoD4.
How is TSR coping without me?

I’m going to leave the single player Campaign Mode to work through over the coming Easter weekend.
I’m having way too much fun online to do anything else!
If anybody is looking to join a clan, we have an endorsed “Three Speech Regulars” (”TSR”) clan already established.

@Lord
Like to think i’m that exact person - having bought the three consoles for my spare time away from work I am an equal fan of all 3 machines for what each provides me with.
I do admit i use my 360 for alot more games than i would play on the PS3 (although that is slowly changing), I’m a big fan of my Halos, Mass Effects and Gears.
And compared to story-driven action orientated titles such as those, KILLZONE does set the visual bar far above what I have witnessed with the Unreal 3 engine and high-level AA titles on 360.
Visuals aside, the gameplay and pacing of the “levels” are smooth and well presented, but saying that there are only a few levels I would actively be interested in replaying (Exo being one of them).
I’m not sure whether it is the fact that the like of Halo has a better overall aesthetic in gameplay or if its just because its an established franchise with a well reserved universe but if I were to compare it’s replayability in single player, it would rank alongside Halo2 as it currently stands 5 years on.
Halo2 - completed numerous times over and over and have the current feeling of “its good, i’de not say ‘no’ to replaying, but it’s not top of my list compared to others”
That’s the feeling I have with KZ2. Not a “bad” thing, but I believe the replayability will likely come back when the inevitable Co-Op patch is released down the line - as it stands, multiplayer is the only thing keeping me going within the game.
For anyone thinking i’m bashing - I Heart KILLZONE, Guerilla did themselves proud and could not have delivered a more polished experience. It just happens that the experience (in my opinion) should have come 2 years ago when the height of Halo3, CoD4 and F.E.A.R would have been squashed to high heavens…or alternatively - if that 2005 trailer had been debuted in 2007. We’ve known too long about the game, and I just think it was announced too early..hype is at its best within a 12-18month pre-release timeframe.
But it has my vote as a top title for 2009.

TSR isn’t really moving just yet. I thought it was important we all completed the game and got some good skills behind us before we jump into the warzone!

There are some matches where I’m a god, coming first and doing really well. While others, I just die constantly. Pretty odd, although the Replay feature on the web site is KICK ASS. What a great idea, deffo helps me improve my game by seeing where I’ve gone wrong.

@ E
Used to find that on CoD4, I sometimes felt that if I ‘got off on the right foot’ with a few early kills I would have a better game than if I skullked around in the shadows trying to get a few sneaky stabby stabbies.
Who decided that sorting offices should shut at 12noon? I’ll have to wait until tomorrow morning for my copy now. sigh!

Collecting the intel unlocks content on KillZone.com can someone tell me what this content is as I’ve not tried yet, would be nice to download some concept art. I’m playing it on Veteran, which I assume equates to hard and it seems about right. As for progress I’m starting level 3.
Comment by Terry — Feb 27, 2009 @ 3:33 pm
loving it!!
got to the academy in the SP (playing Heroic or whatever its called) today, but had already done the first 4 levels/chapters/ribbons yesterday. My HG kill count is at 300 or so… I expect itll triple before I finish.
But today I couldnt resist to hit up some MP gaming. Ill fully admit Im not the best player around, but in the first 3 matches I got to the 3rd rank, outpaced my death count, 69 kills per hour, and Im having a whale of a time.
Its a shame that I havent won yet, and dont really stay alive long enough to do anything but kill one or two people then die, but Ive had a couple of decent kill streaks, and Im loving it.
great gameplay.

I guess I fall into the same category as Sketch…
I’m really enjoying KZ2, my only wish was that there was an optional install…
There’s sometimes a split second pause in some cutscenes, feel that an install would have solved this.
As a experience, it’s intense and satisfying. Will definitely be re-playing single player a few times. A “keeper” based on SP alone (like COD4 not COD5). As for tearing me away from my 360…
I rented Tomb Raider Underworld, not touched it. Got GTA-Lost & the Damned, only done a few missions & KZ2, has made me put it on the backburner… Halo Wars I’m expecting through the postbox tomorrow, know for a fact I will not touch it till I finish KZ.

@-E-Role : I love the replay features on the website. Does any other FPS offer this. I would suggest that before TSR goes into battle, we can watch study how our competition play by watching their previous matches.
@ alan wicker: You must have played the game on the easiest possible setting to finish it in 4 hours or you are an FPS god and TSR needs you :). I set it on Veteran and it took me 19 hours to finish. I would suggest you try a harder setting.
I’ve just restarted the campaign on Elite and I’m finding it easier than Veteran so far, but I am sure it will be hell in the later stages of the game. I also tried some multi-player matches to get my rank up, but in one game I managed to get 1 point, then in the next game I died loads and last the point, so I’m back at 0 :(.
Ah well, I need to get to know the maps a lot better.
I’m finding multi-player a little bit laggy. Is that because I’m using WiFi or is that a KZ2 issue?

Both the single player and the online component are outstanding. There is no noticable graphical difference which i think is not only an awesome achievment, but just sheer dedication on the developers part. Did anyone else notice that a 1.11 patch for KZ2 came out to today? Was about 16MB IIRC. Not sure if it is my brain playing tricks on me but I thought the multi-player was much smoother and the campaign looked a little better after that patch. I wonder if it is some kind of placebo effect :).
PS : finally managed to get my ranking score up to 73 after about 2 hours online. I noticed the top most ranked mp player has a score of over 24K! Has he actually slept since he got the game?? Also highest ranked clan yesterday was “German Secret”. Which got me thinking, do you think someone has managed to rig up a Mouse and Keyboard hack for KZ2? As much as I enjoy playing on the PS3, I can’t help thinking that I would be better at FPSes with a M&K.
Comment by CartBlanche — Feb 28, 2009 @ 1:51 am
@Blanche
You aren’t dreaming…however i did notice a longer lag that usual in getting through the menu screens once the patch was applied.
Aye - a mouse and keyboard would make the MP alot more responsive, half the time I’m aiming up shots i have to do very slight nudges on the analogue stick - definitely guarantee a number fold in efficiency increase if i have a mouse instead - but then that’s half the skill with console FPS titles, command over the controls is a skill not a given. =)

Welcome to the “TSR” clan, Mr Monkey (DiscoRab)!
Out of those with statistics logged, there’s only John (RagingWhisky) & CartBlanche not in the Suicide Club now due to a grenade throwing competition I was unfortunately very bad at last night…
[ http://killzone.com/kz/leaderboard_clanmembers.psml?kz_clan_id=`2427 ]
And yes, CartBlanche… Sergeant Major now reporting for duty, sir!
(Hopefully E-ROLE & I will both make Lieutenant later today)
I too find ‘ruling’ a match is the result of a good killing spree in the first minute or so, most likely building confidence about my abilities &/or fear in the opposing players [I can dream], or turning a corner into an ambush early on & never recovering the ground.
The admiration of a peer group is typically shown with Squad Invites incoming very early on too. My Kill ratio tells a different story, however, as many of my matches have become free-for-all death-fests… these are still very fun to play but all tactics & strategy go by the wayside. The
I’m also not familiar with all the maps yet. The three from the Beta Trial version I am very sure of, but some of the newly available ones are so vast that it is going to take more than a few days to work out the best vantage points. The close-quarters battles of the Radac Academy map (the one where the Helghast soliders spawn in the Gents toilets) usually end up like this, for example.
How does everybody feel about the incoming downloadable maps taken from the original “Killzone”? I never got around to opening my (Steelbook edition) copy of this, don’t suppose I need to now
My PS3 is wired into my ASDL router, and I haven’t seen the ‘laggy’ issues mentioned, or feel a need to have a hard drive installation. The fact one is not needed is another good indication of how well Guerilla have developed the title.
PS. The official web site is now back online. It was unavailable for a majority of yesterday afternoon & also not available when I finally decided that it was time to stop playing early this morning (when I woke up still playing a match with my face right up against a wall running forwards!). Ooops.
E-ROLE: I believe you can appoint Clan Officers to help with membership duties & organising matches. If you need any help just let me know (or indeed appoint this to all of us registered so far).
In the absence of the Clan Forum functionality online at present, yes, I agree we need to start building ‘Valor’ (indeed, yes, this shows European Language regionalisation doesn’t need to take any time at all) points by challenging other (low level) clans soon.
How is everybody fixed this weekend?
Has everyone (including Mr ‘Lesbian & Proud’) received their (pre-)ordered Blu-ray game yet, or picked one up from the High Street?
Where are all the reviews & comments about your first impressions, guys…?

Got it one day early and loving every minute of it. Started the story mode and got to visari square.. but currently enjoying warzone because I just love the slow methodical action.. Not a run around shooting everything like R2 and not a keep walking around hiding from things like metal gear.. Just a perfect pacing. Just wish I could level up soon to get the additional abilities [not too many medics around, invisibility cloak is a bit too powerful etc].
But loving it .. and loving it I am I am.

Will dip my toe into multi tonight…
Comment by Mr.Monkey — Mar 1, 2009 @ 7:47 am
@ Monkey… Exactly the same story, even the half 2 part… without spoiling plot for others the “getting inside” part was one of the best console FPS moments I’ve ever played and the bit that included the RPG’s was quite possibly one of the worst… I think it’s time developers realise that “boss fights” aren’t obligatory if they can only come up with ways that make me think of a modern Dr. Robotnik with figure pattern, figure weakness, attack at key moment, repeat, stylings, and thats my one gripe with an otherwise near perfect game… Now to go online or do it all again on very hard?
Comment by IvanFoul — Mar 1, 2009 @ 10:23 am
Finished, luckily got a checkpoint at a vital moment this time, never last night? Took about 10 hours… Disappointed there’s no trophy for finishing it on Veteran, was expecting a gold or silver. Will have a blast through on normal and look for collectibles…
Comment by Mr.Monkey — Mar 1, 2009 @ 10:28 am
“TSR” members… I think E-ROLE is trying to organise a match at 1:30pm (UK time) on Saturday (7 March 2009).
I may not be able to make it for the start (as I will be 30 miles away instructing a martial arts lesson until 12noon, and don’t usually get back home until 2pm), but I’ll try to get there if I can.
He’s trying to be a proactive Clan Leader… but I don’t think all of us have played (online) to a great extent yet, so maybe a ranked match in 6 days time may be a little early.
When I logged-in last night, E-ROLE logged out just as soon as I entered, & about 20 minutes later a few others in the “TSR” clan logged off.
RobotHamster was playing in a clan containing AVForums members (I’m guessing from the clan tag), as I checked in my “Friends” list after every one of my matches finished but nobody was playing online or available to join. I saw you log off around 2:30am, Mr M. I kept going over an hour longer. No wonder I’m tired today!
PS. E-ROLE: How much Valor did you ‘bet’ against us for the ranked match next Saturday? I believe that until you reach 200, you cannot bet more than 10 Valor (points).

watch your back soldiers
completed it last night on Trooper level, Rico i thought was a total numptie during that battle before the final boss, going to rescue his butt cost me several lives, i think if they left him out and made that bit a bit easier that penultimate bit would have been much better. so many WOW moments during the story and the graphics lived up to all the hype. i am a very happy monkey. uploaded campaign stats, not collected many intel/icons yet as was too busy not being killed to go hunting around, maybe on the next play through

@ FP : Thanks for the clarification.
@MM : Yes they should have given a trophy for finishing on Veteran as that last part is so damn hard, as they just keep on coming! I’ve restarted on Elite, to try and ensure that my mp skills will benefit from the extra playthrough.
@TSR Members : Does everyone have voice chat capabilies? I’m guessing that during matches, we will have our own channel, like Squads do. I need to get more mp time in to learn the maps.
Comment by CartBlanche — Mar 1, 2009 @ 4:06 pm
I’m on Veteran difficulty trying to grind my way through the last fight… I’ve loved it so far (the snipers in the wastes kinda annoyed me, but not hugely)…
Also, I’ve only just started using headphones… WOW! the sound in this game is excellent! even the dialogue which has received some criticism is top notch!

Re: Voice Chat Support / In-Game Voice Channels
Each Squad has a specific channel so you can discuss strategy at a distance.
There is also a “proximity” option in-built with the game that allows you to talk with the non-squad based team members that are in the immediate vicinity of your own in-game character.
However, if you speak louder & an opposing team member is close by as well, then they will hear your voice too (just like you would expect!).
I don’t use a headset, but have my PlayStation EYE camera peripheral plugged in to a spare USB port instead.
The “proximity” option is particularly useful if you need to shout “Medic!” when you go down in a hail of fire & the members of your team outside of the local area will not hear you.
In theory, Squad team members should stick as close as possible.

Thanks… yes, I’ve aware of the official Bluetooth wireless headsets; two of my kids have one each. I don’t like them though.
I use the EYE camera out of choice, not necessity.
I have recently bought another (a Nextlink INVISIO G5 Bluetooth Headset) I recently purchased from Play{dot}com that can clip to the side of a pair of spectacles instead of sitting in-ear. It is PS3-compatible, so I may try that later too, but I’m fine with the camera.
The PS3 EyeToy camera also works just as well.

Guerrilla Games’ Must-Do List For ‘Killzone 2′
Posted by Patrick Klepek on 2/27/09 at 12:30 pm.
The PlayStation 3 shooter we’ve been talking about for years is finally becoming a reality, as “Killzone 2? arrives on shelves today. We asked developer Guerrilla Games producer Sebastian Downie to compile a list of things “Killzone 2? gamers “must do” while playing their game — here’s what he said.
Guerrilla Games Developers’ Must-Do List For Players of
“Killzone 2”
(PlayStation Fantasy Garden Simulator, February 2009)
1. On the mine-train in Tharsis Refinery, find the hidden Boltgun and nail Helghast soldiers to the tunnel walls. Its rewarding in more ways than one.
2. After playing online, go to http://www.killzone.com to view the Battle Replay of your game to see how you can improve your performance. Or you can use it to spy on the tactics deployed by a rival clan.
3. Rank up to Sergeant and create a Clan in-game or on http://www.killzone.com to take part in massive tournaments of up to 256 clans, or challenge rival clans for ‘valor’, the online currency of the game.
4. Keep an eye out for the [GG] Clan when you are online and see if you can take out a developer or two.
5. In the slums of Salamun District wait till the Helghast rappel from the dropship before exploding the yellow barrels. It will take them out in one fiery blast and often enough their burning corpses will swing from the rafters above. Killzone 2 is all about the burning corpses.
6. Upload your single player stats to http://www.killzone.com to compare them with your friends for bragging rights as well as catch up on the latest news, content and gossip on the forums.
7. In Killzone 2 multiplayer for search-and-destroy and capture-and-hold missions: select the tactician badge with the speed boost secondary ability to take one for the team. Rush the objective and pop a spawn point making it much easier for your team to gain the upper hand.
8. When playing online search-and-retrieve missions: Let your enemies do your work for you! As the saboteur, Ambush the delivery location with C4, don a disguise, and wait for your enemy propaganda carrier to come by. Once he blows up, you only need to carry the propaganda speaker a few short steps to victory!
9. In multiplayer: Look at what weapons your fallen adversaries are carrying! By picking up their weapons you can end up with some deadly combinations of abilities and weapons, such as the heavy armor of an assault trooper with the LMG of a rifleman; or a cloaked scout wielding a shotgun (Devastating at close quarters!)
10. When playing multiplayer, press the PS button and bring up the XMB. You can then listen to custom music from your PS3 to go with your killing sprees. Nothing says “Kill the ISA scum” like the super swinging sounds of Burt Bacharach.
11. In Maelstra barrens, rather than wasting valuable ammunition on the traitorous Helghast, step on them with your Exo-skeleton instead. Much more satisfying and you might even get a trophy for it.
12. In multiplayer try to place your gun turrets and sentry bots near spawn markers to offer defense for spawning re-enforcements. Also try to place sentry bots or turrets near your own ammo crates. In short, think carefully about where you place support items and try to place them next to other support items.
13. Use the shotgun close range on enemy heads to blow them apart like ripe fruit. Also makes a very satisfying squishy noise.
14. To see what the AI is capable of, why not add some bots to your multiplayer games. They will perform most of the abilities human players can and not complain if you team-kill or tea-bag them.
***
How many of these are you going to do?

@sketchmeister: Those bluttooth headphones look just the ticket, but damn! £40+!!! A bit out of my league in this recession.
I’ve got a a PS2 Eyetoy, so will try that this evening. I was a bit worried that the sound from the TV speakers would interfere with the eyetoy mic. Ah well, I’ll find out later.

I jumped into a game that fanpages was in last night ( POLAND ) before I went to bed around 1am, and the level of killing going on was impressive. Since most of the guys where in their 500s, there were medics, turret creator guys and total mayhem!
I haven’t enjoyed multi-player like this since Quake 3.

Am loving this game… had a couple of cracking MP games last night, was having a blast once I’d unlocked the shotgun!!
Must admit tho on Friday I got really confused trying to join my mate in a MP game. We just couldn’t connect to each other as the rooms were always full. Anyone else have the same problem? I was hoping it’d be like COD where you create your party and then go off into the big wide world together as a group……
Comment by M0nk3y_R1mm3r — Mar 2, 2009 @ 9:22 am
@mobiletone - never mind - at least I’ll have chance to start fresh and get a better kill-death-ratio!
@all - Is the headset always set to open-mic? I have the official headset. It seems like there’s no support for the mute button in killzone. I would rather be able to press something when I want to talk, like I can in Warhawk, otherwise all you guys will hear my little nipper constantly in the background!
Comment by reakt — Mar 2, 2009 @ 9:26 am
I’m very impressed with the game, played a few levels of the single player before jumping online and I’ve not been back to it since, the carnage is brilliant and the ranking system is quite friendly so you never feel overwhelmed in games with crazy folk who’ve been playing for 30hrs+..
Just got to turret building last night, think I managed to take out fanpages with my first one, result!
Comment by marvzilla — Mar 2, 2009 @ 9:28 am
@monkey rimmer - I’ve been getting ‘the world is full’ problem when trying to join mates all weekend when theres definately spaces left, had to keep joining random games til we could all get in.
Comment by marvzilla — Mar 2, 2009 @ 9:37 am
Killzone really is a mixed bag. Aesthetically it’s brilliant, everything on the outside (for me) shines.
But it’s the key elements like weapons you can carry, lobby system (or lack of), and the fact that you have to rank up to start a clan that i find annoying. oh and no co-op
There is some more but as this is my first post i dont want it to be uberly negative.
Killzone is good, but i feel there are too many basic mistakes.
Comment by Beranmee — Mar 2, 2009 @ 10:08 am
Cheers marvzilla… glad we’re not the only ones…. will persevere tonight!
Comment by M0nk3y_R1mm3r — Mar 2, 2009 @ 10:11 am
Perhaps it’s just me… but the multiplayer feels like a set of minigames. I’m spoilt by Warhawk though. Nothing comes close to that. Warhawk is still the PS3’s best online game.
Killzone2 single player however is utterly sublime.
Comment by nemo — Mar 2, 2009 @ 11:02 am
@ marvilla and M0nk3y : Those mp games fill up really fast! The only way I can get into certain matches is if there are 25/32 already there. Then I know I have a good chances of getting in. If it says 31/32 or even 30/32, I don’t even bother.
Comment by CartBlanche — Mar 2, 2009 @ 11:02 am
@Mtone
Just double checked again, stats in-game are still up for defs, guess it’s the site that’s down…
Thought I spotted you in my game.
My kill-death ratio got wrecked this morning, had a quick blast before going out (instead of working out) and was playing with a bunch of team killers…
Comment by Mr.Monkey — Mar 2, 2009 @ 11:11 am
Is there actually a way to run the Lobbies like Cod, get your mates in and then look for a game?
Comment by Beranmee — Mar 2, 2009 @ 11:11 am
@Mr.Monkey - yeah i only jumped in right at the end, 4 mins or so left, but i took a few of them down with me. was great to see the [TSR] popping up in the kill/death list. nice to hear the stats are ok in-game *phew*
had a load of points stolen playing a one-on-one then the other player quit out near the end and it wouldn’t give me them, was my highest scoring match too
Comment by mobiletone (lesbian and proud) — Mar 2, 2009 @ 11:55 am
I have only one complaint, a minor one. I’m so happy I can swap sticks, Control Scheme 3 for me, but it irked me that the controls aren’t applicable to the vehicles, which are back round the other way. Only minor like I said.
If I had a wish list of improvements, they’d again be only minor, and read like this…
1. Optional install - the little slight delays aren’t much of a hinderance, but well, you know, it’d be better. Plus, it would stop the occational time the streamed voice gets caught in a little loop while the next section of the world loads.
2. I’d like the sniper type motion controller feature to be extended to when we’re zoomed in with a normal weapon.
3. Erm, I think that’s it.
4. Oh no, one more, I’d like the first tune from the credits screen please!
Comment by LordOfRuin — Mar 2, 2009 @ 1:17 pm
My gripes are the duck/crouch button - I’d like to make this toggle instead of hold. I know you can do it for zooming in, why not crouching?
Also, like Beranmee says, create a group with my mates and then go off into the wild against all and sundry….. that’d make me even happier!
Comment by M0nk3y_R1mm3r — Mar 2, 2009 @ 1:42 pm
True Mr Rimmer, being able to toggle your
crouch would be nice.

Patch for KZ2 is coming out shortly. List of fixes ( which I’m not noticed issues with ) are …
Boost
we’ve identified and fixed the bug to do with the boost medal not being awarded. It will go into a patch we are working on at present, but there is a workaround in the mean time to get it. Simply ensure that you are the Game Creator rather than client and you’ll be awarded it.
Network Errors/Honor Ranks
We are also looking at fixing a good bunch of the network errors and are looking into the complaints about the Honor Ranks as well as a couple of other bits and pieces. We’ll provide a list of fixes when we are close to releasing the patch.
Bots
We’re working on a permanent solution for the bots stat padding and have some internal solutions that we’re going to work on implementing. We’ll let you know what those are when we’ve got the patch together and the solution implemented.
We will NOT be wiping ALL stats and padders will be looked at individually by the moderators.
http://www.kz.com
http://www.killzone.com is being sorted out today to deal with the massive traffic its been facing and hope to have some long-term solutions in place shortly.
The stats are currently empty on the site and will be repopulated today.
Controller Issues
We have not stopped looking into the complaints and will see what we can do about it. Any possible changes will have to be carefully implemented and tested before being deployed though.
Charge disarming
We have identified the issue where sometimes the C4 charge in Search and Destroy will not disarm. Will be fixed with the next update.
Shotgun Aim Assist
Investigating the problem and will patch it up.
Clan Games
Sometimes the clan that does not turn up for a match is awarded the win under specific circumstances. Will be patched ASAP.
Battle Replay for Map 8 - Corinth Crossing
The BR on http://www.killzone.com is not quite right and will be fixed soon.
Ignore list
Was found not to be functioning correctly. Will be fixed in the next patch.
Crashes
Crash when using Saboteur disguise in certain situations. Will be fixed in the next patch.
Infrequent crash when trying to start a game with an empty game name. Will be fixed soon.
Medic/Assassination
There is an issue with the Assassination target HUD icon displaying when playing as a Medic. Investigating and will be fixed.
That came from…

I swear I saw a TSR tag flash past me in one of the mp games last night, but when I went looking, I could not find them.
Comment by CartBlanche — Mar 2, 2009 @ 7:26 pm
As expected the solo mode is more beautiful than the multi Beta which was already cool.
Started the solo mode today, Veteran, playing forced 1080p with the AV amplifier set up at a decent loud volume, Display options hide the HUD and everything, it’s like playing a war movie, I’m blown away, feels like war anyway.
Haven’t tried the online multi yet, but I’m happy to be back in the Killzone, the PS2’s multi was fantastic. Hope to get the original game’s maps redone in HD, Beachead and Park Terminal anyone?

wow you bought this game for the single player campaign? i highly doubt that especially if you are still playing COD4. I’ve yet to touch the single player campaign having way too much fun online just need to finish sabatouer/tactician/assault.

Monkey Rimmer: “My gripes are the duck/crouch button - I’d like to make this toggle instead of hold. I know you can do it for zooming in, why not crouching?”
Not sure if you know this but this CAN be set as toggle in the multiplayer. You need to adjust controls once actually in the game (not on menus) and there is an extra box for crouch toggle.
Comment by Robothamster — Mar 4, 2009 @ 12:22 pm
@ Robothamster: I didn’t know that! Thanks mate… I’d heard that it was possible but could never see how, so assumed it was wrong. Pity I can’t do it in single player campaign too tho
I know.. some people are never satisfied.
I’ll check it out next time I’m on. Do you know if it remembers the setting or is it just for the duration of the match?
Comment by M0nk3y_R1mm3r — Mar 4, 2009 @ 1:41 pm
Yeah once you’ve set it once it remembers for ever. It’s much better but you can only move at snails pace crouched, which is what you’d expect anyway but you won’t be crouching for the whole game like you can in COD.
Comment by Robothamster — Mar 4, 2009 @ 2:07 pm
A great game only soured by the difficult last level.
I found the game very hard on “easy” and I can’t finish the last level. May be I’m a crap gamer, but that’s why I chose easy.
BTW I’ve finished Gears 1/2 on hardcore, but I found the aiming much easier.
Comment by roger mellie — Mar 4, 2009 @ 10:41 pm
roger mellie your not a ‘bad gamer’.
It’s just ‘bad design’ in my opinion.
I think you’re absolutely right to say that the last level tarnish the game after some phenomenal events.
Comment by DK33 — Mar 5, 2009 @ 1:40 am
I’ve also found the aiming to be a bit hit and miss Roger (excuse the pun), I’d just put it down to the fact I’ve not played many FPS on the PS3 yet, only on the X360. The controllers do feel very different between the two consoles. I sometimes find the aiming in KZ2 to be a bit ‘twitchy’, especially on MP! Maybe it’s something you get used to? I’ve not got to the last level yet, only about ½ way thru…..
Comment by M0nk3y_R1mm3r — Mar 5, 2009 @ 9:29 am
@DK33, @M0nk3y_R1mm3r
I’m glad it’s not just me! I’ve grown up with PC shooters, but I find the 360 controller the most comfortable.
I suppose I’m slightly dissapointed as I wanted to play through each difficulty level after finishing the game. Especially, as there are some awesome firefights throughout the game.
Perhaps I’ve been playing Flower too much?
Anyway, I’m seriously considering buying a 3rd party controller if it will help.
Comment by roger mellie — Mar 5, 2009 @ 9:52 am
@ Robothamster - the toggle crouch has improved my game, thanks man!! i also found on MP knocking the sensitivity down a notch from the settings i use offline helped too, i don’t ‘overshoot’ the target as much now.
to above, that last level before the final boss is a beeeeeeeeeetch.
ALSO - Play and PSM3 magazines are giving away free pocket book guides with each issue for KZ2. not as totally awesome as my offical warzone guide but still.. pretty handy.

@rogger mellie, @DK33, @M0nk3y_R1mm3r
[ RANT Start ] See that’s the problem with kids these days ;-), they want to be able to finish things easily, just to be able to say they finished the game without a real challenge and sense of accomplishment, or just for the trophy/achievement bragging rights.
I consider myself to be an average gamer, even more so after battling alongside fanpages last night in some mp, but I digress. Anyway as I was saying I’m quite average, but I never start any game, be it an FPS or any other game, on anything less than the hardest available setting. Yes I know I will die a tonne of times and the learning curve will be the steepest around and it will be frustrating as hell at times, but I know in the end, once I’ve beaten it I will have a real sense of achievement.
The final boss battle in any game should by definition be the hardest part of the game as it is supposed to be the grand finale! I would be majorly disappointed if I got to the end and it took 5 minutes to finish him off. What a let down that would be. I want to be challenged so that when I do beat him, I can jump off the couch with a pumped fist, knowing I’ve beaten the best the developers thought would test the majority of gamers.
Having said that, Killzone 2’s final boss battle is very very hard as those bad guys keep on coming ( spointer alert : I think there are about 6 waves or so in all ). I initially started playing it on Veteran and it took me just over 18 hours to get to the final boss battle. It was a hard 18 hours, but I thoroughly enjoyed getting there. Now I still have not finished the final boss battle on Veteran, because after 1.5 hours of attempting to beat that last boss, I thought I was being stubborn :). So I actually had to drop it down a notch, to complete it. But the GREAT thing about Killzone 2 is that I can go back to that specific boss battle on Veteran and give it another go, any time I like. As I had finished the game ( not to my total satisfaction ) I restarted on Elite ( which is unlocked after your finish the game ) and I’m actually finding it easier, now that I know I HAVE TO take cover in order to survive. So hopefully in a month or so I will have beaten it on both Veteran and Elite.
So to finish off, persevere and ye shall be rewarded for your efforts. Killzone 2 is a great campaign and multi-player experience, and the final boss battle is there to test your sanity and patience :).
It is only a computer program, so set it at the difficulty level you feel comfortable with and as you are human you can out think what any programmer throws at you. That is the attitude I take.
[RANT End]
Hopefully, I’ll see you all in some mp, as that really does help you improve your reactions and aiming.
Comment by CartBlanche — Mar 5, 2009 @ 12:30 pm
LAME!! Thought it would be great but wish id read real ppls/individuals thoughts. SIt hurts me to say this as im sure a lot of effort went into the game but seriously dont! waste ur money. Animations are terrible, graphics are underwhelming, gameplay = run here shoot them, run there shoot them = boring. I’d say the only impressive thing in the entire game is the lighting. Hint u dont play a game for its lighting. If you dont have Metal Gear Solid 4, spend ur money on it. mgs4 is a million times better in every area. You cant even compare the two mgs4 wins hands down. Very disappointed
onto ebay for it.

I like this game a lot. I’d like some new big maps. Some of the close combat gets rediculous in amongst the choke points, which I like to help along with a granade. Ha ha ha! Sneaking is ace, but there are less maps where that can be used. Sneaking means you can’t get the early kills, which you kinda need. I like that we get to vote on which map to play next, even though most people just remain on the same map.
So, I’d like to see a marraige between Killzone2, and Warhawk. Killhawk Warzone anyone? That would be the greatest multiplayer game the world had ever seen. The future has been suggested, and you saw it here first. Well, actually, you probably thought it already, but anyway….

Guerrilla “investigating” Killzone control changes

“If we change them… we are not going to turn them on their head”, promises developer
Killzone 2 producer Seb Downie has acknowledged that Guerrilla Games is “investigating” making changes to Killzone 2’s controls.
A number of players haven’t taken to the game’s somewhat sluggish analogue controls, and despite stating earlier this week that “no changes are required” to them, Guerrilla may be about to do a u-turn.
Writing on the US PlayStation boards, Seb Downie said:
1. We have not decided if we are going to do anything to the controls. We are investigating.
2. If we change them, we have not said how. No reason to get upset. We are not going to turn them on their head. It would not be sweeping changes.
3. Any potential changes made will be carefully analysed and tested to ensure they do not negatively affect players who do not experience any issues.
Now can you all take a break and stop making threads about this. They will not affect change either way.
This isn’t the end of the story by the looks of it. We’ve approached Sony for further comment and will let you know as soon as we have anything.

@ Robothamster - yeah, works a treat, i also have a secret to help my gaming too but i’m not saying what it is, you’ll all laugh at me
needless to say online FPS are outside my comfort zone, was never that impressed with COD, WarHawk was fun for a while and i got into UTIII and Quake Wars for a bit but KZ2 has got me into it, i WANT to be better, i find myself CARING about getting ribbons and badges and my percentages and KDR.. all that stuff i thought was daft before, so, maybe, just maybe i’ll stick at it and not just let the box collect dust on the shelf.
the other games were great fun to play offline and i had fun setting up my own bot matches in them but one by one they got thrown on the pile, i think it’ll be a while before KZ2 joins them. thank you GG, the wait was well worth it.

Thanks CarteBlanche, being a 33 yr old “child” Computer Programmer, I have a tendency of reading peoples posts before commenting on them. I didn`t make a comment about the level of difficulty in KZ2, I merely commented that the controls felt twitchy. It`s a shame we`re not all gaming gods such as yourself, I much prefer to play for fun, and if that means playing on a lower difficulty level, then I will. Each to their own! End of non-rant as I couldn`t be bothered to waste more time on the matter. I`m beginning to see a whole different side to online gaming on the PS3, not sure whether I like it.

@mobiletone. Just because you don’t like someone’s opinion doesn’t mean they are trolling.
I don’t have any other consoles & think PS3 games are great. This one, in my opinion, isn’t & I do believe thats what the post asks for.
So in future keep your non-constructive criticism to yourself.
Each person needs to decide what they want from the game. In my opinion don’t buy the game if you want a graphically excellent game with a decent single player storyline that will keep you amused for more than 4 hours & involves more than go here & shoot that. If you want to play online against other people & shoot them for hours on end then maybe this is a good game.
Comment by Brad — Mar 6, 2009 @ 1:58 am
@ Brad - you start a post with ‘LAME!!!’ then go on to state ‘Animations are terrible, graphics are underwhelming’ which is quite honestly not true, OK, so you might not like KZ2, but on my first play through it took me 11.5hrs, just like the people from Play magazine, so where you get ‘4hrs’ from i don’t know, maybe you shouldn’t play games on n00b level
what is YOUR favorite FPS then?
KZ2 despite whether you like it or not is hands down the best looking, best crafted audio and most real handling of all FPS games out so far.
@ mrsatansdojo - seems it’s hard to find a game on Visari Hammer (local and worldwide) so the last couple of evenings i’ve been hosting matches there to get to learn the layout, the times i have been blown away buy some git waiting at the top of some stairs with a shotgun..!!

Thanks CarteBlanche, but this 33 year old Computer Programmer has the decency of reading someones post before responding to it.
I made no reference to the difficulty of the game, I merely stated that I found the controls to be ‘twitchy’!
As we’re not all gaming gods such as yourself, some of us will play on lower difficulty levels, indeed, I mainly do this as I want to have FUN when I play. I get enough stress at work to put up with more when I get home in my leisure time.
I’m beginning to see another side to online gaming on the PS3, and it’s not something that I particularly like.

Thanks for the lecture and I know it was meant in jest. But I’m not a young kid, in fact I have a young family myself.
And maybe in my youth I could complete much more unforgiving arcade games without any checkpoint cushions. In comparison today’s games are much easier and I didn’t find such issue with Half Life 1-2, Bioshock, Halo 1-3, but I still was rewarded.
And for the record I’m not bothered about achievements or trophies. For me the easy setting could omit the majority as long as can finish the game.
I just think the closing difficulty level has been massively misjudged by the developers or testers. I didn’t find such issue with Half Life 1-2, Bioshock, Halo 1-3, etc. And yes I’m sure it can be beaten with lots of repetitive grinding.

@M0nk3y_R1mm3r & roger mellie : It seems that I have rubbed you guys up the wrong way and that was not my intention. I was a tad over passionate about KZ2.
I’m 40, have a family of my own and as I said am hardly a game god. If you check my KZ2 stats ( when Guerilla fix the site or for any other mp game for that matter ) you will clearly see that in mp I have died tonnes more times than I have killed anyone. I think my ratio is 1:1.5 and my campaign stats are even worse I think. If you want gaming gods look to the likes of fanpages, E-Role and Mr. Sketch as their kill ratios are a lot more impressive.
hmm, this thread has become more opinionated than I thought ThreeSpeechers could ever get.

Comment by CartBlanche — Mar 6, 2009 @ 11:13 am
I’ll be honest CarteBlanche, you did rub me up the wrong way with your comments, and as such I accept your apology. The thing I’ve enjoyed about playing on the PS3, especially the PSN enabled games, was the lack of ‘l33t-ism’ that seems to have befallen the likes of XBox Live and other online games. I want to play these games and have fun, with people I can get on with and preferably have a laugh with. I know this in part is impractical as there’ll always be personality clashes, but so far I’ve enjoyed the open friendliness that seems to permeate through the PSN.
When I do get stuck into the MP with KZ2, I hope I find a group of people who I can bounce off and enjoy myself with, as long as it’s not at the expense of being understanding of others, and giving a helping hand here and there.
That’s why I’ve enjoyed visiting this site, there’s been people who have offered assistance at every turn of my PS3 journey, I hope that this continues.

I am loving the MP at the moment. So much so that I have only done Corinth on the singleplayer. I think now that more people have cottoned on to the fact that playing every round like a death match isn’t the best way to rank up or win matches, it has gotten even better.
Any reason in particular why you can’t get into it?

@ Terry G - stick at the train and keep advancing slowly, use the mounted gun on the tank too to help mow ‘em down. there is a rocket launcher to the left about halfway down from what i remember, along with some more ammo and guns very handy. you need to use cover early on, just keep plugging away at them and they will eventually let you forwards.

@Terry G, that train section was one of my favourites sections of the game on Veteran. I must have died close to a hundred times trying various tactics. I actually think that section there would make an excellent co-op game, maybe similar to Gears of War’s Horder mode.
I’m currently stuck in the area where you meet up with 2 other squad mates early on in the game, but this time I’m playing on Elite. So far found it easier as I was using cover more, but just this section the AI seems to have taken a leap in sniffing me out. Damn them.
I’ll try out mp this evening. I’m hoping to get to 800 before tomorrow’s clan match.

I have the same sentiments as tone, you say non-constructive criticism? However spouting such statements such as “animations are terrible” without elaborating on why is also non-constructive. The death ragdolls are the best I have ever seen in my 20+ years of gaming, the last time I was so impressed with ragdoll deaths, was with Pci-Ops & Half Life 2 & Painkiller (all used the Havok physics engine, which the latest version of is what KZ2 uses)
Yes there can be times when the animation of the movement of the soliders seems “off” when walking/bumping into things, and sometimes problems with geometry cliping. But these are problems that have always been inherent with the medium. Some procedural AI and extra animations could has solved the bumping into things problem, but the testing and ensuring that the AI steadied itself at the right times, also factoring in all the on screen action and limiting slow down would have added a fair chunk of dev time. Perhaps if GG had looked into another way of procedurally generated animation, such as the new euphoria middleware tool. This could have been another work around. But alas they did not, but I would hazard a guess thats it costs a fair chunk to buy a licence and train your staff to use a new tool.
As for 4 hours, yes on easy, exact same thought process went into critiques of Gears of War 1 (Played on casual). Took me 10 hours for veteran, around 6 on second playthrough on normal/trooper. As for the graphics,.. This is truly subjective, but I would be interested in what does “float your boat” in that department, Crysis perhaps? Pity thats it is not available on any consoles, but I do keep hearing rumors of a Ps3 port in the works?
And finally “Go there shoot that” that is essentially the essence of all FPSs. Even seminal titles such as Half-life boils down to going somewhere and shooting something? Yes KZ2 story is not top heavy, but as a experience I personally found it very absorbing. But then again not everybody is me are they?
Comment by Mr.Monkey — Mar 6, 2009 @ 9:35 pm
I’m playing on Veteran and have died plenty of times. I’m on the cruiser now and have racked up about 10 hours+ I’d say. People who have done it in a few hours must be playing it on easy or something. What is the intel for, I’ve been looking for it but nothing has unlocked from what I’m aware of…

Btw, I double checked my mp stats the figure is frighteningly close to 1:2 for my kill to death ratio.

Funniest comedic moment for me during the clan match was me getting killed by the opposition’s turret’s ( I was trying to get some cheap kills by shooting the turrets, I need the points, and it backfired ) and Mr. Sketch lhao at my misfortune/stupidity and shortly afterwards dieing himself, from his own grenade, I think. Priceless!
The clan match afterwards was also very fun. My turrets got more kills than me, I think. Maybe we should hold those as training sessions, maybe once a month or once every 2 weeks, to learn maps and tactics etc.
So who should we challenge next, ProjecT CHIHUAHUA? Maybe our reputation will precede and they won’t turn up either.
PS. We are not in 616th spot.

Thanks for your time this afternoon guys, especially for the prolonged gaming with you, Mr M. Shame the laggy warp factor teleportastic in-game character detracted from our complete enjoyment, but yes, a worthwhile experience to gain insight into each other’s playing styles & certainly to get use to a map layout.
John & I also spent some happy matches last night (and earlier this week) getting used to some other maps. And CartBlanche & myself have also exchanged a few rounds side-by-side as well as against each other. After the clan match had finished (and it took about 10 minutes for the servers to catch up & tell me!), ‘tone & myself branched off into another match [and I took the full force of one of his grenade attacks against our opposing team... in good spirits :)].
Regarding the issue I had with joining you all. I couldn’t use E-ROLE or Mr M’s “Friend” entry to latch onto, as I was informed that I had an inappropriate rank to do so, but I finally managed to try another member of the clan & I got in. I don’t know if that is a bug or not, but something for you all to watch out for if you find you cannot join another members existing match.
Good shootin’ from all of you in any respect. I’m proud to have you (all) alongside me on the battlefield. Even those of us who manage to kill themselves when we don’t have any enemies!
If most of us are online playing throughout the weekday evenings, we should at least jump into each other’s games to say ‘Hi’ (or ‘Die’, as appropriate) & then break-off to other games if possible. The more practice we get together then the more focussed we are going to be combined against others. But we should also keep a perspective on not being overly-serious. It is meant to be fun. Strategy & game-play tactics are useful, but I’d sooner just spend time laughing about our lack of performance & enjoying the game for what it is. Winning isn’t everything. It’s the taking (a)part that counts, etc.
My favourite maps (on order) are Blood Gracht, Radec Academy, and Salamun Market, as I know them from the Beta version(s) of the game. Does anybody else have any preferences on picking either map, or weapons, or even factions for future clan matches?
(I am getting to know the other locations through my online play, but as I haven’t even started the single player campaign mode yet I haven’t really had the opportunity to take my time through any of the other maps in great detail).
In case John is worried that he has one or more PlayStation-love-children he wasn’t aware of, I added two new clan members late last night:
Queen_Victoria
DragonSlayerT
They are my 8 & 10 year olds (respectively)… and as they get a mentioned (alongside their 6 year old sibling quite regularly) here at Three Speech, I thought you wouldn’t mind their inclusion as yesterday E-ROLE reported that he thought that not many clan members were going to be present today. If we need to make up numbers in the clan for the further matches/tournaments they have PS3 consoles of their own & can respond to a call to arms if the matches are not past their bedtimes
However, both kids found that because they had joined the clan after the event had been scheduled earlier in the week that they could not compete alongside us this afternoon.
My 10 year old didn’t waste time due to this though, and ranked-up to a Lieutenant this afternoon instead.
All three of us have just had some [offline multi-player] time on “The Club” this evening… after I took early retirement after my first game where I was killed after my first kill made, I went on to have an unbeaten run of 49 deaths on the other players! My “Killzone 2″ sessions this week helping out there I think. Then my 6 year old took over my controller & won the next match with a “first to 50″ score too! See… kids can be fun too! It’s not all “can we go to Mount Splashmore”
Finally, I have received a XrossMediaBar message from one of my “Friends” (added during my numerous “Killzone 2″ bouts this week) asking to join our clan. I have not replied either way yet. I wanted to run it past the other ‘Regulars’ to see if you wish to retain the exclusive Three Speech interest, or whether you’re open to ‘guest’ clan members from time to time.
Once again, thank you all for your time today. I’m thinking we won because we scared the other clan off when they saw how good our statistics were.
(Hope it wasn’t because Manchester United were playing this afternoon & they were all at that match instead).

Comment by JohnSketch — Mar 8, 2009 @ 12:42 am
Hi John,
I have both ‘Vegas’ titles for the PS3… but #1 hasn’t had a look-in since #2 was released.
I have “Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter” (breathes out) for the PS2… and it was good, but the PS3 follow-up was just too complicated to set-up multiplayer matches we rarely play it.
So many choices to look forward to this year too…
“Resident Evil 5″ (next Friday… yeah!)
“Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion”
“Afro Samurai” (not solely for the game play but also for the voice-over by Samuel L Jackson)
“Yakuza 3″ (in English, not Japanese)
“UFC 2009 Undisputed”
“Black: Second Mission” (”Black” on the PS2 was my favourite ’shooter’ title for this platform)
“Fuel”
“Just Cause 2″
“Doom 4″
“Wolfenstein”
“Tom Clancy’s Rainbox Six: Vegas 3″ (now confirmed as a future title)
“L.A. Noire”
“Saw: The Video Game”
“F.E.A.R 3″ (production started prior to the release of “F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin”)
…and “Killzone 2″ downloadable content including the maps from the original “Killzone”
And as backup, or ones I’m not completely sure will interest me or not, so far…
“Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic”
“The Wheelman”
“Terminator Salvation”
“Mini Ninjas”
“Red Dead Redemption”
“Heavy Rain”
“Prototype”
BFN,
fp.

Just reached the final boss, I must say i’ve enjoyed it a lot upto this point, my on ly gripe is the palette of the game doesnt vary much, and there’s only so much muddy grime i can take.
The story is also wafer thin, and the efforts to make you care about any of the characters are a waste of time.
I’ve had a few goes on multiplayer and it’s great, i can certainly see it rivalling COD4 in terms of how much of my time it takes up, they’ve clearly borrowed heavily from the series in terms of the classes etc but that’s defintely not a bad thing.

I’ve always, always been a single player campaign mode gamer, who occasionally dips is toes into the the cold hostile sea of multiplayer…only to decide its safer to stay offline.
How that has changed with KZ2. So much so, i’ve only completed the opening chapter of the campaign but managed to open up all the character classes in online. I’m finding that opening up the secondary abilities of each class is challenging but satisfying when you achieve the in game ribbon and finally medal!
My game play is slowly changing from the manic rapid deathmatch playstyle for quick increases in rank, to more thoughtful tactical play on larger maps like Pyrrhus Rise (my favourite map).
Not got into any clans yet but if folk are recruiting then look me up and add me: PS3 ID: gpb1.
Is this the game of the year already? With so many big titles scheduled for this year this title for for me is a 10/10 start to 2009. So Nathan (Drake) whatcha gonna do about it?

@ fanpages - grenades and small enclosed spaces FTW!
Comment by mobile (bullet magnet) tone — Mar 9, 2009 @ 6:13 pm
@ gpb1 - yeah, i was the same about online FPS multiplayer. once i finished the campaign i dropped in to the action on KZ2 and it’s totally converted me. just feels right and joining other peoples squads and watching their backs, the whole vibe is much better than the likes of COD4 i have found.
GotY.. definitely.
the next game i’m really looking forwards to is FUEL.

I let the side down yesterday chaps (and chapesses). I didn’t play “Killzone 2″ for my own gain at all (but managed to help out one of my kids with part of the Campaign mode, and rank-up another online).
I was also premature with my “TSR” Clan news, as Mr Monkey (DiscoRab), now also a Lieutenant General, should also have been mentioned in despatches.
However, “Killzone 2″ lead level designer, Neil Alphonso, has just pledged allegiance with the enemy…

I will probably be online towards 10pm, possibly as late as 10:30pm, tonight if anybody fancies trading a few ‘rounds with me or against me.

Answer my own question, yes I do get a trophy!
Well all I can say is with two Lieutenant Generals on our team, that’s a sure fire way to make the other team not show up again @ our next clan match!
(which I think E-Role is trying to sort out now)
Our clans fearsome rep will have our foes quaking in their boots…

I’ve also started a new job, with a 4 hour daily commute, which leaves not time for KZ2 :(. I wonder if they would let me play it during lunch-times.
Congrats to the two Lieutenant Generals! Sounds like the rest of us don’t need to turn up to the next match either, as you guys will mop up everyone.

I’m a colonel, yay! I must tell you of the most amusing couple of hours I’ve had for ages. Some kind soul set up a Melee only match (well mostly melee), so we could gain some ribbons and medal. Watching thirty odd big meanies thumping each other in a free for all was quite simply eye wateringly funny. Much laughter over the mics. Yep, someone should have videoed it for posterity. Anyway, I now have a shiny new hand cannon. Which is very effective indeed. I’m only about 300points off General, so that’ll be tonights task. Ha ha! Sniper!
JohnSketch, I’ve heard about peeps like you, there was a gay bandit that rode into town and shot up the sheriff.

I’ve always considered myself a hardcore FPS player. So I launched into Killzone 2 with much vigour and enthusiasm… twenty-four percent complete, died seventeen times. That may be shocking to some, but what I find shocking about my stats is that I have apparently commited suicide seven times… I can think of two suicides. A rocket clipping a wall and an ally deciding to step in my way while I attempted to throw a granade, but I have no idea where my other five suicides come in to play.

@MobileTone - the rocket launchers are a pain in the a***. I always seem to get killed by those. When / how do I get one?!
Comment by reakt — Mar 12, 2009 @ 9:49 am
Rocket launchers don’t have enough ammo in my humble opinion. I fire them off and am left with just my trusty hand cannon. Until I respawn or pickup something. (when I said pick up something, I didn’t mean some VD, or blonde chick).
I’m finding the snipers are terribly horrible to me. I must get one of those so I can return to favour.
I can’t wait for the original Killzone maps to be released. That swamp one will be ace. Ooh, no, the slums, that’s a good map too. The space station might become a breeding ground for sentry bots, but all the nooks and crannies will make chucking granades a bit dangerous. They’re likely to knock a outcropping and come straight back to us.
Hey, I wonder why we haven’t got a New Sun style map? I’d enjoy that.

Comment by E-ROLE — Mar 13, 2009 @ 9:10 am
I realised last night that I should have changed my weapon for the photo! Since I got Captain the day before I should have had my photo done with the Rocket Launcher! Kneeling down with a rocket launcher over my shoulder would have looked cooler!
LOL that it took 3 attempts to get us to stop shooting each other for long enough to do it, and even then we were all killed just after!
I had my cheap SOCOM bundle turn up yesterday too, so now I have an official headset but I think I had some teething problems with it, so will have to try it again. Is it just me or are some people inaudible when they use the mic? CartBlanche in particular just came over as static to me, but a couple of voices were really clear (fanpages and reakt I think they were)…
@ mrsatansdojo - a photo mode with poses would be a great addon! You could run up to downed enemies and pull a funny gesture, not too dissimilar to how the Helgast laugh and shake their fists when they kill you in the single player game…
@ E-ROLE - Didn’t I hear it was possible to watch replays of matches online at KillZone.com? Has anyone tried this? Maybe there’s a way of taking a screenshot from that, although the quality probably wouldn’t be great.
I have an old WinTV capture device that I use for lifting recordings from my V+ box to my PC, if you want to try again I could probably hook my PS3 up to it and take a snapshot directly to my PC, I don’t imagine there’d be any protection on a standard def composite signal…
Comment by Apnomis — Mar 13, 2009 @ 10:00 am

The battle replay is simply a top-down, minimal affair - Similar to the match engine in Football Manager (ie. a bunch of dots running around).

By the way, does everyone else have a headset? I am more than happy to have orders barked by the rest of you and just follow, but I am wondering if it would be worth getting one.
I would never talk to randoms, but you guys are my real internet friends, hahahahaha!
My girlfriend wouldn’t approve mind - a bit too geeky for her.
Defo need a bluetooth keyboard though, trying to keep up with conversations on the pad in Home is tricky. Don’t forget to visit the TSR Home Academy, nudge, nudge. Would be a good pre-clan match venue.
Comment by mrsatansdojo — Mar 13, 2009 @ 12:33 pm
@ mrsatansdojo : How does one get to the TSR Home Academy?
Also why can’t I see who the next clan match will be against on the killzone.com clan page? You should be able to see it both in game and on the website. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong place.
Lastly, I know that the next match will be 4v4 against PS3 Attitude, so I assume the top 4 ranked dudes( or dudesses ) will be leading the charge, but what I want to know is how can I look at PS3 Attitude’s clan page on killzone.com and maybe even match their previous encounters, if they had any. I tried searching and I don’t get an error message, but I can’t see their entry either.
PS. I think next time we have to take 2 photos, so that we can photoshop it into one shot so that no one misses out. At the moment everyone is in the shot except E-Role as he was the photographer.
Which gives me an idea for additional DLC or patch.
A photography turret, maybe when you get to general or higher. It uses the same basic mechanism as the normal turret, but has a 10 second timer for everyone to get into position.
Make it so GG!
PPS. At some point we will have to take on the Guerilla Games clan, which apparently will just be guys with [GG] at the front of their names.
PPPS. How do clans take part in Tournaments and where/when are these held?
Comment by CartBlanche — Mar 13, 2009 @ 1:08 pm
A 4v4 match? That sucks, we have a solid 8 members of our clan (possibly more if everyone is on at once?), could you not find a clan to fight with more members? I say if PS3 Attitude can only muster a pethetic 4 members that’s their problem and we should be allowed to crush them 2 to 1!!!!
Joining a tournament is a good idea, while the game is new and fresh and everyone is keen to play it regularly we should be getting in as many matches as possible - at least 2 a week IMO.
Also, I visited the TST Clubhouse yesterday, very nice if a bit sparsely decorated! Shame I can’t play the arcade games though something about a Namco comm file missing from my HDD
. Who decides what is played on the plasma screen, and if Clubhouses can have plasma screens now why can’t our personal spaces? Is Basic Clubhouse the only type available, or are there other designs to purchase?
I actually thought about setting up a clubhouse when the clan first formed, just so I could try it and see what it was like, however I decided Sony were being a little bit greedy with the £££. I didn’t mind paying £4 for the space, but the monthly subscription fee seemed a bit much for me - what exactly do clubhouses offer over meeting up in your personal spaces, aside from a Noticeboard, to justify a monthly subscription?
When is the clubhouse normally used, it was empty when I went!!!
Comment by Apnomis — Mar 13, 2009 @ 2:22 pm
@ Cart
Should have an invite from me (pabloamigo) when you log into Home.
@Apnomis
Minimalist design all the way!! You may need to download the Namco museum Beta from the **cough** Hong Kong **cough** store to be able to play the arcade machines.
There is no way of putting anything up on the video screens yet (that I know of), so will hopefully be a feature in the near future.
Basic clubhouse is all that is available. Not really used it as yet, but thought it would be a good venue for some tactical discussions before a clan match.
I don’t think monthly fees haven’t started yet - I presume Sony would look to add more features before charging for something that is basically identical to your personal spaces.

Need a few days for arranging though
Comment by Robothamster — Mar 13, 2009 @ 3:28 pm
That’s the spirit RH, I’m sure E-ROLE can arrange something in our schedule
Speaking of matches, assuming the 4v4 match is taking place sometime when I’ll be online I was thinking I might hook up my capture card and join as a spectator to take some action screenshots! Maybe I could do a little bit of post match analysis for ThreeSpeech!
If you guys are feeling up to it at some point I’ll happily have a go at taking a screenshot of the team in game if E-ROLE’s shots don’t looks so good. Maybe we could also log into Home and have a corresponding photo of our Home Avatars in our club house as well!
Maybe ThreeSpeech could use them give us our own sticky, titled “Challenge the ThreeSpeech Regulars”, should drum up plenty of match requests that way, and would save this article’s comments getting even more bloated!

Well I managed to get on again over the weekend and got stuck into the single player campaign. I’ve got to the Train level and have to say I hate it! I’ve found a few sections ‘taxing’ on normal but this level is taking the piss! Why is the friendly AI always dumb? After the eleventh/twelfth attempt I switched it off. F*ck it! Losing interest in this game faster than I’d hoped, beginning to get disenfranchised with the PS3 as a whole, loads of empty promises and rising costs! If I had BC I could at least console myself with some older decent games but no! Sony don’t want that either do they?! B*stards!

Well, since this thread is still at the top, I’ll post here. MY PS3 IS BROKEN. Whilst having a Resi 5 sesh the thing decides to flash a yellow light and switch off onto a sort of red light blinking standby… switched it back on… few minutes later, the same happened again… looking online I’ve now seen it refered to as “the yellow light of death” or whatever… and a lot of people have said how it’s cost them quite a bit of money. Has anybody in the UK had this problem? It usually happens with the 60GB which is the one I have… If so how much has it cost them and how has Sony been about the whole affair… this isn’t just my gaming console, its’ my movie player and CD player, so I need this sorting ASAP!

@244 [IvanFoul]:
I have previously mentioned a thread at AVForums here at Three Speech about the issue of replacing consoles:
“PS3 blu-ray died”
[ avforums{dot}com/forums/ps3/697086-ps3-blu-ray-died.html ]
If you are not a member of this site, I have also posted some details about the “Continuous Play” service Sony offer at HotUKDeals (where you do not need a membership to view the message content):

Is your console now out of the initial 12 month warranty period? Up until very recently Sony were replacing units (with re-conditioned models) in a number of days, or were exchanging them on your doorstep at the point of collection of your broken unit.
Unfortunately the great British public abused the service with buying up broken consoles on eBay for under £100 & then requesting an exchange for a working model. Sony retracted their gracious (free) offer meaning that valid cases are now penalised alongside all the bogus/fraudulent claims.
If you cannot review the links I have provided, just use ‘Google’ (or another World Wide Wait search engine) to find “Continuous Play”.
Good luck.

Wow, what a bleak way to start a day. I got woken up by my phone ringing (at half
to have a BT rep harking on at me about how I owe them £300 for activiting my landline and then selecting an orange broadband package which apparently cancelled my “contract” to BT prematurely even though Orange obviously wouldn’t let me sign up without a landline… This was over a year ago too and they keep dropping it and bringing it back up. I then remembered in a waking up haze that my PS3 is broken. Ouch. Checked it again, seems even more broke than yesterday, so rang up the number (08705 99 88 77) and to be honest I’m feeling a little disappointed. Firstly they said the nearest they can collect my PS3 is Monday March 30th and also that it’s going to cost me £145. They then couldn’t use my card(visa electron) so I’m now contemplating emailing somebody somewhere to plead a case. As sad as it sounds I’m actually quite a Song brand buyer, phone, TV, MP3 player, all 3 consoles and quite a large back catalogue of various tape and CD playing walkmans. This is my first problem with any sony product and from what I can read, it actually is a hardware fault in the 60GB model which gives me the feeling that it isn’t my fault as I do look after it very well. I feel £145 is a bit steep for them adressing a hardware fault for been an early buyer of a high end console. If it were a smaller company I also think I’d be entitled to at least some sort of goodwill loyalty reward for the amount of money I’ve given over the years, as basically all my luxury electronic items are Sony. Does anybody have any ideas as to where I could send an email that would actually get read and considered!?

sent this to help@uk.playstation.com:
“I’m writing to you following a call I made this morning regarding my broken PS3 (ref. *******). If this is the wrong email address to be sending such a topic it would be greatly appriciated if it could be forwarded to the relevant place. I’m basically asking for further help. As my PS3 is one of the discontinued 60GB models, which I bought a few months after release, it is well out of it’s warranty. However, having read through numerous websites and topics I’ve come to a basic understanding that this so called “yellow light of death” as it is known is not present in the newer models. The Rep. I spoke to on the phone was very helpful and told me that the nearest I could get it repaired would be March the 30th and that it would cost me £145. Unfortunately, my card, a visa electron, could not be accepted so I’m now at a loss. Having read on the matter and other peoples accounts of it it, I also understand that up until recently, in acknowledgement that it is indeed a hardware fault, Sony have been replacing 60GB models free of charge. It is very unfortunate that as I can well imagine, people have been abusing this service and that it now does not apply. However, I do believe that £145 is quite extreme for something that clearly is not my fault and that I should be penalised for buying early in consoles life before all the bugs were sorted. I am a well trusting Sony brand buyer, having owned various Walkmans, TV’s all 3 consoles from launch, and various other electronics, and I must say that this is the first problem that I have ever had with any of them. I am asking that you please consider this case and at least be able to offer me some form of discount. I eagerly await a response. Many thanks.”
Any thoughts?

@ IvanFoul - that’s terrible luck m8
you don’t hear about many PS3’s breaking, so it must feel extra bad when it happens to you (at least with that other console you live with the knowledge it will probably happen to you sooner or later!).
Does the £145 get you a replacement or a repair? I would hate to lose all the stuff on my HDD! - In fact it’s about time I did another backup!
AFAIK the yellow light means ‘General Failure’, which basically means the PS3 isn’t quite sure what the problem is! I’ve seen a few people say they fixed theirs by either replacing the HDD or taking it out, doing a full format on their PC and inserting it back into their PS3. It may be worth a try rather than spending £145?
Did you do anything near the time it failed other than play Resi 5? Can you hold the power button down for a few seconds to bring the diagnostic menu up or does that not work either?
@ fanpages, I think he chooses it because he’s good at it! He said he isn’t that good at the bombing missions which is why they are left out too. Personally I’m not a huge fan of that map as I prefer the smaller maps generally, my favourite is probably Blood Gracht.
P.S. E-ROLE I’m not having a dig, I think you’re doing a great job managing the TSR clan and really appreciate you taking the time and effort to run it!
I’ll be there on Thursday, never played against developers before, I bet they’re scarily good at their own game! lol. Are we having a Home meet/practice beforehand?
Comment by Apnomis — Mar 17, 2009 @ 10:14 am
@Role/Apnomis
If you need backup i’ll make sure i’m free 8pm onwards (just in case) and available so if i see a PSN message asking me to come in i can!
Comment by JohnSketch — Mar 17, 2009 @ 10:31 am
@ Apnomis
I hadn’t heard a single thing about PS3 failure! I couldn’t believe it when I put in a search and found it was a quite well established fault. I didn’t quite get what they were offering me, it sort of sounds like they give me a temp replacement then return mine back to me with a new 3 month warranty. I’ve upgraded to a 320GB HDD quite a while ago and have only 8GB free space, so I’m also lamenting the loss of my music and movie player, they asked me to put in my previous harddrive, which I still have in it’s enclosure, so fingers crossed that whatever happens, I’ll keep my 290+GB of guff.
Comment by IvanFoul — Mar 17, 2009 @ 10:33 am
@Ivan, I think the trouble is as soon as you remove your HDD you’ve had it, as once you try to put it back it makes you format - never tried this myself though so can’t confirm it. Assuming you can get around the forced format thing you should be ok if they return the same console - I believe the OS knows which PS3 it belongs to so maybe the forced format thing only applies if you put it into a different PS3?
Try plugging your original 60GB into your PC as a slave first and doing a complete format of it - then insert it into your PS3 and try to boot. If you’re lucky it will ask you to reload the firmware (download it off the net onto a memory stick) and will start working again, as some have reported. If it’s a more serious problem sending it for repair is the only option…
From what I’ve seen on the net this is a very limited problem that only seems to effect people that have the following:
1) Original launch 60Gb model
2) Increased capacity HDD
3) Have their PS3 vertically or boxed in somewhere
I also have a launch 60GB model and have manually replaced the HDD, however I don’t have it stored vertically and it is quite well ventilated. Thankfully the problem hasn’t happened to me *touches wood* but I think it’s so rare that even if you have the above it doesn’t mean you will ever experience this error.
It’s just bad luck if it happens to you…

@ M0nk3y_R1mm3r : Yes that boss fight is quite hard. As Mobile tone said, there are about 6 waves of baddies at the end. The strategy that worked for me was to let my compatriot die and I just hung back crouched behind a crate. Once things had settled I would make noise/draw that wave’s attention to me then would pick them off as they come round the corner. But then move back ( as they always try to flank you ) until I got to the mounted turret and take them out from there. Rinse repeat.
Took me about 20 or more goes to get past there!
But maybe Killzone is like Marmite, you either love it or hate.

Yikes playing GG cool! The guys over at Kotaku played the GG guys recently. Video podcast available here…

PS. I’ve been gettting a lot of 4512 errors while playing KZ2 multi-player. It happened 3 times last night :(. It is really annoying to lose all your points in the middle of a match!
Comment by CartBlanche — Mar 17, 2009 @ 1:39 pm
Chaps, are you available for a clan match against BFaM on Thursday if I send a challenge?
Comment by Robothamster — Mar 17, 2009 @ 2:17 pm
I believe on Thursday we are playing Guerilla Games, but E-Role would be the one to confirm that with.
Comment by CartBlanche — Mar 17, 2009 @ 2:19 pm
Finally finished it, not sure what to make of the ending but good game.
Comment by Terry — Mar 17, 2009 @ 2:38 pm
Ok, how about Sunday night at 9:30pm?
Comment by Robothamster — Mar 17, 2009 @ 2:49 pm
@ Robothamster - we’re up against Guerilla Games on Thursday m8, but afaik that is the only scheduled match we have in the diary, so feel free to pick another day, as CB said E-ROLE is the one to ask, drop him a quick note over the PSN if he doesn’t show up here…
Comment by Apnomis — Mar 17, 2009 @ 2:51 pm
Sunday night at 9:30? Bring it!
The GG game has been changed due to an error with my crappy pc. I’ll explain later, it’s for GG to accept now. We also have a possible match with PS3 attitude on saturday night at 10:30pm.
Comment by E-ROLE — Mar 17, 2009 @ 3:24 pm
@ E
Can’t make Saturday, but Sunday game should be ok.
Does that mean we don’t have a game on Thursday now? I had booted the missus out of the house especially.
Comment by mrsatansdojo — Mar 17, 2009 @ 3:44 pm
@ CarteBlanche, I got past the mounted turret part relatively easily. I’m now stuck at the tank that you have to knock out with an RPG. All of my grenades come flying back towards me so they’re ineffective against the foot soldiers, and the tank is giving me a nightmare! By my guestimate, I’m about ½ way through the rail cars, it’s just this section!
When my blood has cooled I’ll probably fire it back up again, until then I’ll move onto some unfinished games on the X360 I think, as Drakes Fortune also did my box in on Sunday! Maybe I need a less frustrating hobby!?!
Comment by M0nk3y_R1mm3r — Mar 17, 2009 @ 4:01 pm
P.S. Any news on when/if Guerilla are going to sort out the Lobby/Party system and Online Co-Op? Maybe the campaign’ll be easier to swallow in Co-Op?
Comment by M0nk3y_R1mm3r — Mar 17, 2009 @ 4:03 pm
Aww, I can’t do weekend evenings, I was looking forward to the GG game too
Curses to your crappy PC!!!
I can usually do any weeknight after 6pm or Saturday mornings/afternoons up until around 5pm.
@ Robothamster, why don’t you play us on the Thursday then, now that the GG game has been moved…
Comment by Apnomis — Mar 17, 2009 @ 4:29 pm
I’ll send a Sunday challenge to you tonight then chaps.
Comment by Robothamster — Mar 17, 2009 @ 4:36 pm
I think the killzone web site is a little unreliable when it comes to clan stuff. Sorry guys, I have done it all over again in-game, hopefully it works out.
But as usual, I blame vista.

@ robothamster
Do it on thursday around 10:30 if you’re up for that mate.
Comment by E-ROLE — Mar 17, 2009 @ 4:55 pm
Hey ThreeSpeech, are you on holiday? There’s not been a proper story on here for a while (links to GT videos don’t count ;)) and we all seem to be living in this comments section!
Why on Earth have you not announced that SCEE (yes, SCEE have actually done something right!) have revamped their PSN Portable Game ID to include trophy information, recently played game information, a bigger choice of favourite games and a larger choice of backgrounds (nice ‘3D’ style ones not just a background photo).
They are actually pretty neat! Well done SCEE (we don’t get to say that often!).

E-Role, Sorry I’ve sent you one for Sunday now!
Thursday wouldn’t have worked for us as some of our players are taking part in a FFA COD4 tournament at the moment.
I have chosen Saluman Market and switched Assault class & Rocket/Grenade Launchers off to make the game more tactical and less spam the other team with explosives!
Comment by Robothamster — Mar 18, 2009 @ 9:34 am
We’re dead, your clan enter tournaments? And you’ve put 10 valour in this. Bugger, we’re going down…
Comment by E-ROLE — Mar 18, 2009 @ 10:19 am
@Apnomis - 456 trophiez! Now that’s just showing off!
Comment by reakt — Mar 18, 2009 @ 10:26 am
E-Role, yeah, some of them enster COD4 tournaments. So much so they they NEVER play KZ2 until they need to!
Don’t worry, I’m hoping for a nice close run tense game.
Incidentally we played our 1st match sunday, 4 of us vs 3 of the OGC clan and they won so even outnumbered doesn’t gaurantee us a win!
Comment by Robothamster — Mar 18, 2009 @ 10:44 am
Well I’m sure it will be a fun game, and good call on turning the rockets off, they ruin the game.
Comment by E-ROLE — Mar 18, 2009 @ 10:47 am
Yep, hope some of my team will turn up now after all this!
Agree about rockets, same with assault class with boost. Too hard to shoot someone running faster than you can turn the crosshair!

@Robo
I find hiding behind a corner and a swift rifle butt to the head as the speed past does the trick against those pesky boosters.
I like to think of it as the Clothesline of Justice
I did this against someone the other day in Tharsis depot and they got very, very cross with me!

Love ranking up.

I really need to get back on KZ2 tonight, not played it for a while and I’m having withdrawals! I’m only a lowly Captain at the minute!
Hopefully the next big clan match will be on a weeknight so I can join in, and hopefully I’ll be a few ranks above where I am currently!
I also need to work on getting the Honor Rank Trophies, I’m guess you’d need to play a lot of multiplayer to get them!!!
Comment by Apnomis — Mar 18, 2009 @ 2:23 pm
I like getting a hand ranking, especially in the shower.
Now that I’m at maximum rank, there isn’t alot more insentive to get the highest body count anymore. i woulnder what happens when everyone maxes out.
Comment by E-ROLE — Mar 18, 2009 @ 2:26 pm
Ranking alone is fun….ranking with a friend is even better
Comment by JohnSketch — Mar 18, 2009 @ 2:27 pm
Damn the 5021 network error. I started 5 matches last night and 4 other them ended with a 5021 network error after 5 minutes and I had 10+ kills in all those games! It was only the my last match that I managed to get complete a whole 30minute game without that connection error. At least in that last game I got 30+ kills that match, but doesn’t make up for the fact that I am now 9 points away from Major. I coulda been a Major already :sobs:
Comment by CartBlanche — Mar 18, 2009 @ 2:29 pm
Now look, all this talk about ranking has meant the article has been un-pinned from the top of the site - we were so close to 300 comments as well!
Hopefully ThreeSpeech will set up our very own TSR Clan article to comment in soon!
I’ll have to have a massive ranking session when I get home tonight to catch up to you lot!
Comment by Apnomis — Mar 18, 2009 @ 4:06 pm
I cannot f****** believe it! A game where I had 52 points with only one match left dies on me. 4512 error this time!!! This is ruining my experience with multi-player right now. Anyone else getting these connection errors?
Comment by CartBlanche — Mar 18, 2009 @ 8:44 pm
@Cart
Not had any errors like that mate.In fact it has been one of the smoothest games for online play I’ve ever had on the ps3.
@Apnomis
Noooooooooo pin it back aaahhhhhhhh!
I will be on tomorrow evening/night for a serious session. Hope to see some of you there.

E-Role,
Don’t forget to accept the challenge from BFaM mate.
Regarding errors, one of our players keeps getting the 5021 error and getting disconnected too. No idea why but it only affects him.
Comment by Robothamster — Mar 19, 2009 @ 9:29 am
Arrgh! we’ve been moved from the front page to the depths of page 5! Guys can we have our clan discussions on the killzone.com forums?
Comment by reakt — Mar 19, 2009 @ 10:21 am
Regarding error 5021. I was getting it constantly. Thought it was the router, server, god etc.
Anyway, just as I was about to give up, I traced it back to begining when I started using a usb keyboard I had plugged into the usb port. Its been there for a while, but not used, and yesterday I sent someone a mmessage and the error appeared. I unplugged the device, and so far so good. So it is possible it is either a faulty usb port or a confliciting device. Hope that helps
