Reviews of Killzone 2 have been cropping up thick and fast. It looks like the gaming media are pretty excited. Here are some examples or what people are saying about the game:
IGN UK - 9.2/10
“Killzone 2 is a landmark achievement.”
Videogamer - 9/10
“This is not mindless violence, just… war.”
Kikizo - 9
“Guerrilla’s AI and level script clobber the player with rifle butts seconds after handing him the pad, then trample him face down into the toxic Helghan mud.”
Spong – 94%
“Killzone 2 drops the bomb on other shooters”
Play.TM - 96%
“Killzone 2’s intensity scale is the videogame equivalent of Nigel Tufnel’s mighty amp collection in classic rockumentary Spinal Tap insofar as the action “goes up to 11.” And, folks, it stays there for the duration.”
CVG - 8.7
“Killzone 2 is the loudest blockbuster on PS3 and the first must-have FPS of 2009 for PS3 fans.”

It’s alllllllllllll good!!!
Really sucks there isn’t a special edition with added blu-ray including behind the scenes and special features. Sony have failed on that one.

Nice!

ThreeSpeech, you may have missed a quality competition opportunity here. We could have all been guessing the review scores, and the nearest wins some amazing Killzone goodies. I’d like to see the T-shirt that HMV pre-orders win, but suspect it would be black, and more suited to a fan boy. I like subtle tshirt designs that only those in the know can get the connection, all else just think it’s a cool T. The Mirror’s Edge T was good.
Anyway, any chance of a cool Killzone comp in the future? Full sized cardboard Helghast geezer would be ace, complete with slightly glowing eyes!

Get it for under £30 on a certain large web retailer named after a South American Rain Forest. As I did. CAN’T WAIT!!!

Its 29.99 on Play too… with an exclusive PS3 theme thrown in too apparently…
Comment by Terry — Feb 4, 2009 @ 2:23 pm
It’s £32.99 at ShopTo but that comes in an exclusive ’steel book’ case, there’s a voucher doing the rounds on the net that gives an extra quid off it too.
Alternatively, as stated, Play have it for £29.99 with an Exclusive KillZone 2 XMB theme.
Cheap and with freebies, can’t say fairer than that!
Comment by Apnomis — Feb 4, 2009 @ 2:41 pm

What you have to remember is that Resistance2 got very good reviews but the single player campaign was NOT as good as the first….
It WAS a fun game dont worry - just saying be careful!
Comment by JohnSketch — Feb 4, 2009 @ 6:33 pm
Pre-ordered for £29.99. Guess I can write off that weekend!
Interesting scores especially CVG. The PS3 fanboys completely attacked the reviewer for giving a “low” score of 8.7. I must admit it did seem like the reviewer was picking holes for the sake of it or maybe they just wanted to increase hits by giving an under 90% review. I remember when I got my SNES many many years ago I made the mistake of buying CVG. It was like a hyperactive child that was possessed. I then found Super Play - now that was a magazine. Ah they don’t make them like that anymore (sigh)

@gobucks, I used to swear by Edge reviews, but I don’t know if they have changed hands or staff, but lately they have started the Sony bashing as well and become a little pro Microsoft. I want my game magazines to be impartial, damn it!!

Comment by Mr.Monkey — Feb 4, 2009 @ 9:54 pm
@ Mr.Monkey… so… do you have a definitive 5.1 setup to go with a HD TV and PS3? I’ve been looking around a bit and not really found anything, I just want something around 100-200£ that goes straight through the PS3, no external DVD or Blu ray player or whatever, I just don’t have the room and use my ps3 as a central dvd/cd/blu ray/movie player… the closest I got was:
http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/3512132/JVC-TH-L1-5-1-Games-Console-Home-Cinema-Surround-Sound-System/Product.html
…which i SWEAR was 89.99 in December, Im damn sure of it as I wasn’t sure I wanted it as it sounded too good to be true for that price, then I get some money at xmas and find it at that price… bizarre.

@IvanFoul
To be honest if you want to get the “most” out of your PS3 & Blu Rays choosing an amp with HD sound decoding is pretty essential, so if you could stretch to £300ish

Went to Gamespot last night for the first time in a while, how have they fallen from grace. Running graphical comparisons like little school boys and bashing anyhting Sony related for not being as as good as Gears of War. since when did all journalists become biased.
On another note played Resident Evil yesterday and was very sad to see it being terrible. Where has the survival horror gone, you basically ran around an arena with rubbish slow controls waiting for a guy in a hleicopter to arrive. Graphics were poor too…
Comment by Terry — Feb 5, 2009 @ 10:01 am
The step to 5.1 is definately worth it, being able to hear where people are running from in online fps proves a definate advantage and it ramps the creepiness of Deadspace up quite a few notches.
Roll on todays update.. looking forward to the KZ taster having missed the beta.
@Terry- I quite enjoyed the Resi 5 demo, did you not try the other stage?
Comment by marvzilla — Feb 5, 2009 @ 12:29 pm
@ Terry - i hated the Resi 5 controls too, will not be buying.
@ Mr.Monkey - picking a 5.1 up after work today, nothing flash mind. Hughes.
@ JohnSketch - Resistance2 looked like it was going to be bl00dy stupid from the off, that’s why i gave it a miss, loved the first game too much for R2 to ruin it for me, silly americans!
games site Kotaku… is it just me or are they Sony bashing lately, seems to me that every article they do about the PS or it’s games has to finish on a jibe, or a dig at something which really negates the whole articles integrity. i used to rather like that site but have gone right off them this last couple of months.
Comment by mobiletone — Feb 5, 2009 @ 12:38 pm
@ mr Monkey - ex display one of these for me thank you, and at a tasty price
