White Knight Chronicles is shaping up very nicely, not least in the art direction. Shades of Last Exile in some of the early clips we think. RPG fans, are you excited about this one? Non-RPG fans, do you think this one could tempt you?

Just got Valkyria Chronicles….Won’t be needing another RPG fix for a good long while
Comment by JohnSketch — Jan 7, 2009 @ 6:00 pm
Yea, Valkyria Chronicles is a great game. Can’t wait to get it.
Takes some time to get into the demo, but once you do you have a fresh and beutiful expirience to hand.

I don’t really do Jrpgs, also love VC, infact the only Jrpg I “really” got into (apart from Golden Sun on GBA), was Skies of Arcadia on Dreamcast… Made by the same studio.
As for the guys behind WKC (think) they are the same studio who did Prof Layton on DS, might give WKC a punt…

Sony’s (flash, literally) site for this year’s Consumer Electronics Show [CES 09] (starting tomorrow & running until 11 January 2009 in Las Vegas) has some stunning looking footage of some upcoming titles:

…and ex-Lara Croft model, Rhona Mitra, is worth turning out to the UK cinema on 23 January 2009 for the opening of “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans”. I knew there was a reason I asked Mr Claus for the previous two movies on Blu-ray two weeks ago.
PS. Ms Mitra’s persona seen in Comment #6 in the thread below, as if you needed reminding

Will you be covering the CES 09 event, Three Speech? I hope so.

PS. Other interesting gossip (and perhaps this is the news Sony was hinting at during the fallout from the announcement of the loss of staff recently)…

Evolution and WipEout Team to merge under one roof
Wednesday, 07 Jan 2009 11:01
[MotorStorm Pacific Rift]
MotorStorm Pacific Rift
Two of the best PlayStation 3 racing game developers are to eventually merge under one roof.
Developer Evolution Studios were purchased by Sony Entertainment in 2007, and have since released a successful sequel to their racing classic MotorStorm.
It’s well known that the team shared not only their PlayStation 3 engine but also their knowledge with Sony Studio Liverpool in the creation of WipEout HD. The collaboration resulted in a stunning full-1080p, 60 frames-per-second futuristic racer.
The studios have always been intertwined, in a similar way to the connection between Ninja Theory (the developer of Heavenly Sword) and Sony Cambridge. Evolution Studio was formed in 1999 by Martin Kenwright and Ian Hetherington. Ian had previously founded Psygnosis, which is now…Sony Studio Liverpool.
Sony’s head of Worldwide Studios in Europe, Michael Denny, tells Gamesindustry.biz of the relationship between the two Northern studios;
“[Y]ou may be aware that Evolution and our Liverpool Studio have now merged in terms of management structure and using combined resources. Liverpool had great success this year with Wipeout HD and they also helped on MotorStorm as well.
“Each studio has its own internal concepting group which will always be looking at new opportunities and new IPs, and we’ll continue to extend and innovate within our existing franchises as well.”
When asked whether the studios would merge completely in the future, Denny replies;
“Yes, it was always the intention with them being in the same geographic location and working so closely together, it would be ideal if they could be housed at some point within the same site, but it’s not happening overnight.”
This wouldn’t necessarily mean that the teams would collaborate together to create one game. The teams would remain separate, but being under one roof would allow them to more efficiently share resources.
In our opinion this is great news for Sony’s internal development studios.

I’ve been looking forward to a decent RPG (Oblivion & Fallout 3 aside) but haven’t fancied Infinate Undiscovery (stupid title) or The Last Remnant as neither of them have really spoken to me. WKC looks quite interesting tho… What sort of gamplay can I expect from VC? Is the demo on the US or EU PSN?
Comment by Monkey Rimmer — Jan 8, 2009 @ 9:36 am
aye demo on the eu store (in the uk at least) Level 5 also did Dark Cloud and Dark Chronicle so thats some petty good heritage right there and Rogue Galaxy which I never got round to playing. VC is lovely though, I just keep getting my ass handed to me in the first ‘proper boss fight.. grrr…

The game scored poorly with Famitsu and on a Japanese site users gave it a D. It is sitting on 3.5 on Amazon.jp. Game seems to be a bit crap and I suspect it was rushed out because of the distinct lack of JRPGs on the PS3 and weak sales in Japan.
