No SF2THDR? Please go and ask Sony to hurry up. Seriously. We know the netcode is knackered. Either get Capcom to sort it or do it yourselves (not you TS)/.

Pretty decent update should be pointed out tho that the LOTR demo is an online mutliplayer demo of the game.
… oh and doesn’t it seem strange to see a store update without LBP content?!!
Comment by xxShadowsFallxx — Jan 8, 2009 @ 4:52 pm
not a store update obviously….. but the Reb Bull Air Space island has been added to home now
Comment by xxShadowsFallxx — Jan 8, 2009 @ 4:56 pm
Things seem to be returning to normal in the new year. Oh well, back to Resistance 2 and LBP.

…and still no Lumines - even though it was on the US PSN before christmas!
another poor week

A whole lot of nothing, lots of tat to pad out yet another poor week.
What the hell is going on in SCEE?
Why is SF:HD taking so long? as an semi-offical entiy of Sony surely ThreeSpeech can get some feedback as so far SCEE have said nothing at all.
Comment by Ali — Jan 8, 2009 @ 5:34 pm
Update is poooooooooooooooooor.
LOTR Demo was out in the US store before xmas so most will already have it.

I don’t normally get itchy about games, but wheres SF2THDR?
Is it coming or not?
Comment by lxd — Jan 8, 2009 @ 8:04 pm
It is so nice to see that Sony have started the new year with a really strong update to make up for the, frankly, quite poor updates that we were getting last year…
Those are the words that I would like to say, but sadly Sony continues to piss in the eyes of its loyal European fans (and apparently the Australian/New Zealander fans too) by giving us a really weak update that still leaves us several games behind the US (not to mention Japan, which has far more content than any other region). Seriously, no Street Fighter II HD?! What the hell is that about?! It has been out in America for about 5 weeks and - worse still - it has even been out in Europe for 5 weeks, but only on the 360 because for some totally inexplicable reason Microsoft seems to be able to have some kind of parity between its regions and has worked out how to release content at the same time throughout the world.
What the f*** is taking so long?!
Comment by Mace — Jan 8, 2009 @ 9:21 pm
And when are we going to get a video store?!
I doubt I will use it because SCEE will probably add about 1 film to it per month and that film will be crap, but you never know it could actually turn out to be a half-decent service!
In all honesty, I would not mind delays between game releases in different territories half as much if Sony would just give us some kind of explanation for why there is a delay and maybe, just maybe, when we might actually expect to see the game!
Comment by Mace — Jan 8, 2009 @ 9:26 pm
like pinky and the brain:
What is in the SCEEstore this week, brain?

Another terrible update. Still no SF2HD or Lumines. The delay on SF2 is so long now it now seems possible SF4 will be out before it.
Comment by Ataru — Jan 8, 2009 @ 11:03 pm
It’s just getting ridiculous how poor our updates are. I try to understand how they might have some extra hurdles for releasing games in Europe but it’s just taking the p––s week after week after week. Its even more so disappointing how it looks like it’s going to continue into the consoles second year out in this region(hey wasn’t the console delayed too, whoops! ccccombo!).
I have always turned a blind eye but it just really feels like no one gives a s–t about us EU ps3 owners. We are loyal customers. I spend nearly all my disposable money on ps3 hardware and games. Thousands of pounds now and it all just feels like a kick in the nads sometimes. I don’t want to disband the Playstation as I love it and everything but I wish I loved the online experience/PSN store too
Seriously I wish SCEE would just say something on why we get rubbish/delayed updates. And also I wish TS would just say something for once on the subject rather than post the usual copy paste updates of sadness week after week.
I dont like ranting but it reaches a point where i feel really let down. Either way much love to TS and SCEE, i could never say i hate SCEE.. well not yet anyway
Comment by rick_2k — Jan 9, 2009 @ 3:45 am
Does anyone else think SONY have just given up on the PS3, especially in Europe?
Comment by SlapnutzUK — Jan 9, 2009 @ 9:47 am
TBH the US update was pants too, but the content gap between regions is ever increasing…
No SSF2THDR, but it’s been out on 360 with no online problems* for 5-6 weeks now
(*A benefit of the beta being tested on Xb-Live)
A boatload of Psx games missing, and the “poll” that 3speech ran is effectively rubbing salt into old wounds
Also something else that irks me…
Pre-order Killzone and get Helghast costumes in home, good idea yes?
Except such an offer is US only, and Killzone has a PAL developer…
Least we a “supposed” to get the demo for free…
Its a gamestop pre-order only bonus is the states…
Comment by Mr.Monkey — Jan 9, 2009 @ 10:49 am
@24 The network code for the 360 version is tied in with Live (I think Microsoft do it as a programming package), which is why its more robost. For PS3 they have to write custom code (I think!). However as SCEE have a more rigorous testing regime, what passed SCEA has failed SCEE. So its down to Capcom to get it through. So techinically its not SCEEs fault (other than having tougher testing criteria).
However, they could just tell us this and then maybe we’d go and annoy Capcom instead.
Comment by katamari-ball — Jan 9, 2009 @ 11:15 am
@katamari-ball
By all accounts the 360 beta was buggy as hell, but was refined for general release…
As for the Borked online on Ps3, I don’t know if it is down to the code or network…
& yes Scees trademark “wall of silence” doesn’t help…
Comment by Mr.Monkey — Jan 9, 2009 @ 11:30 am
whinge whinge whinge.
Grow up you sad fekkers!
Comment by Cakester — Jan 9, 2009 @ 11:52 am
Its the network code itself, SCEA have a release it now patch it later mentality which isn’t shared by SCEE. Based on the delay to Super Puzzle Fighter (which was also a Capcom game…) I reckon this is going to be a while.
Comment by katamari-ball — Jan 9, 2009 @ 12:01 pm
by the way.. did I miss something last week, or was Mah Jong also released this week in the Euro store ?
And one question on the Red Bull Home island. How the $#%$@ can you get in a plane to fly ? It seems some things are locked off still (closed fences).

Comment by Jay — Jan 9, 2009 @ 3:47 pm
@38 - it’s actually out but due to the LACK OF COMMUNICATION, I found out a few days late on the EU Playstation forums from a fellow customer.
Three Speech - this week, as some examples, you should / could have reported on:
+ CES 2009.
+ confirmed the Home Red Bull update (as the US blog doesn’t always apply to us).
+ Reported the release of the HVB patch update.
People are getting so sick of this, that on the official Playstation EU forums, they’re trying to set up their own official blog to attract the attention and FEEDBACK / COMMUNICATION from Sony and their developers.
@28 Cakester - I used to be like you. Are you new to the PS3? A light user?
SCEE Equality Appeal - http://www.sceeea.com
Three Speech / Sony - say something (and preferrably not just ‘goodbye, you’re banned!’)

Put it this way mate, if I were paying for this service I would be pissed off.
And to be honest I have alot more important things to worry about in life.
But yea, it has been a tad disapointing, although Lord of the Rings does look ok.
Comment by E-ROLE — Jan 9, 2009 @ 6:33 pm
@E-Role - haha just joshing mate. There’s usually some great DLC for LBP which I know you really like (and a lot of people do). It’s a shame there’s none this week. I’m most looking foward to SF HD remix and I’m prepared to pay whatever they feel like charging for it (yes, I want it that badly!). You’re right we can’t complain as it’s free. And besides, I’m still busy with Crash Commando trying to get all the trophies. Anyway, there were so many full games released around Christmas time I’m sure we’ve all got other things to play in the absence of a decent store update. Personally I’m also still playing through Resistance 2 and Motorstorm 2.
Comment by reakt — Jan 9, 2009 @ 8:12 pm
@40 [reakt]:
(Not picking on you specifically, just a general reply/rant)
…But you’re not paying for the PlayStation Store. No contract has been entered into to supply anything to you at any time, never mind on a we[e|a]kly basis.
For me, some weeks there is lots of stuff, some weeks there is one or two items, and other weeks there is nothing. Sometimes this situation is of my own making as I am greedy by having access to the ‘Store from more than one region (experiencing the “PlayStation(r)Home” downloads for “Far Cry 2″ & “Uncharted” being a good example, here). But I don’t complain about it (much). I certainly don’t think we should take to the virtual streets with flaming torches & pitchforks to seek the monster we all despise without taking the time to appreciate the day-to-day issues it faces.
Europe is the most diverse market to gain copyright clearance and to ensure all local market laws & regulations are adhered to, before the worry of implementing support for many languages. It is not just a case of a global search’n’replace of all one English word with a French one, then a German one, then a Spanish one, a Norwegian, a Russian, a Mexican,… and so on, more often than not on-screen assets have to be moved, or re-drawn, re-tested and re-entered into the software quality control procedures. Such tasks are not trivial, and I am certainly glad Sony & the various development teams spend their time ensuring the software titles are, to their best endeavours, error-free when we receive them. In the long-term nobody remembers a late project, but everybody remembers a faulty one. The early bird catches the worm, etc.
If the regular updates on the ‘Store are all that is keeping you with the PlayStation brand, and you’d sooner “go back to” the Xbox 360, then I’m not stopping you. Neither is anybody else. If there are games on that platform that (better) suit you, that’s fine. Video Games Consoles (or Entertainment Systems, depending who you listen to) are for playing games. As long as you are playing, and adding to the industry’s turnover, then any platform is better than none, and certainly better for the future of video games in our culture.
Yes, the fact that the Microsoft online experience can offer trial versions of all titles is a very notable feature that does catch my attention too.
However, I wouldn’t have the time to play them, so I’m missing out either way. I’m also very happy with what the PlayStation brand has given me in the past, and I see no reason to doubt their current console or vision for the future. If you think otherwise, I’m not going to argue with you, but please don’t try to put others off the Sony console just because you feel that each & every member of Sony’s European employees have a vendetta not to bring something to the ‘Store that is personally addressed to you.
It doesn’t seem fair, but life is not fair. Some people in the world cannot guarantee to have food, water, or even continue breathing tomorrow. Others have to decide whether to buy their kids shoes, or put money on their pay-for-use gas card. People are being made unemployed &/or their businesses are going bankrupt on a daily basis. And you are feeling slighted because the US got an updated version of a 14 year old game and Europe didn’t? Call me insensitive, but please get this into perspective.
If there is nothing of interest (like this week), I just get on with the vast stack of PS3 (and Wii) games I have to play from not only the Christmas period, but from many months (even years) before. I would sooner the ‘Store be updated with worthwhile items rather than just being updated for the sake of it. Quality not quantity, if you will.
(I still have many PS2 titles from five or more years ago unopened because I was so keen to get on with the “next big thing”. I am spoiled for choice… so much choice that when I have an hour or so to play something ‘new’ I don’t know where to start or what to choose! Sad, but true)
The lack of Playable Demos prior to, or on the day of release, yes, is annoying, but not the end of the world. “The Lord of the Rings: Conquest” demo may well have been out in the US before Europe, but it is still in advance of the UK release date (this coming Friday).
The “Exclusive” video for “Tekken 6″ (Bloodline Rebellion) was out earlier in the week on the GameTrailers web site, but not in High Definition. An “Exclusive” to some degree then. Too short in any respect, and other (longer) examples of game-play have been around Interweb sites for many months anyway.
I don’t have the ‘current-gen’ “Guitar Hero” (or “Rock Band”) titles, and probably won’t bother until the next “Rock Band” offers an audio keyboard (“synth”) add-on, but the fact that the download content exists doesn’t annoy me. The choice of titles on offer just goes to prove that I made the right decision to wait for a plastic-instrument title that allows me to download tracks that I will want to play, not just downloading tracks because there is nothing else to download on any given visit to the ‘Store.
I’m dying to try the “Naruto” (free) download packs (of which, the US Store is up to #6), but I cannot find “Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm” at a retailer in the UK for any less than £30 and, at present, £30 is a lot to spend on the off chance that the free packs suddenly become a cost option. Especially when other high quality titles (except “Resistance 2″, for some odd reason) have all been discounted in the last six weeks. I’d like the Collector’s Edition of the “Naruto” title anyway, but Europe seems to have missed out on this. Not a problem. I will survive without it. No wait, I must write a strongly worded letter to my MP… no, I was right the first time; it doesn’t matter.
I do miss the Hollywood & Blu-ray movie trailers we used to see on a fairly regular basis, but visiting IMDB & any BitTorrent site fills that void.
I expect the videos will return when European’s Video Store service is nearing release.
I also think the digital download versions of the (PS-One and) PSP titles are vastly overpriced, but if you pay those prices then they will remain that high. If you use Google, or visit dedicated sites like HotUKDeals, then you will find all these titles in a physical form for much less cost than you can download them for. And you have them to re-sell at a later date if need be… something you cannot do with a digital copy. Go on, try the in-built Web browser on your PS3… you may even like it!
If you’ve read this far, thank you. If you’ve lost interest & gone to play something less boring instead. Even better.
FYI: Media Molecule’s downloadable content will be back on 22 January 2009, as they are presently taking a longer-than-normal Christmas Break & spending the time working on a fix to the “save game glitch” where progress is lost & items go missing. Expect another version update towards the end of this month too.
Another week… another update. Can we wait that long? I expect so…
BFN,
fp.

Every week, Three Speech ASK US what we think of the update. (In their poll post this week). I sometimes give my opinion as others do. Sometimes it’s positive, other times it’s negative. What’s the big deal?
Comment by reakt — Jan 12, 2009 @ 9:09 am
I knew targeting you would get a response!
(Thanks)
What I meant was that in majority everybody moans about the lack of this, or the absence of that, or the missing aspect of the other, and Sony have never once promised to delivery these items. Why do people think they are owed the PlayStation Store?
The PlayStation Network logo is not on the outside of the PS3 retail boxes (”Killzone 2″ specific 80Gb pack to come in February, btw), but there is no mention of the ‘Store or the promise of anything other than the console in the box.
My point was that anything you get is a bonus. If you set your standards lower, then you’ll never be disappointed
