Spooky screenshots just in from Sony.
If you want to get some of this all you have to do is connect your PSP to your PS3 copy of Resistance 2. Your version of Resistance: Retribution will then become ‘infected’ with the new content. What does that get you?
- new storyline: play as an “infected” James Grayson (unlocks new abilities including swimming, health regeneration and increased strength)
- new Spectre uniform
- new R2 weapon: HE .44 Magnum
- access to new single player areas
Remember, to get this new content you need to have both games…

PSP needs a game like this, Looks great!

“…new R2 weapon: HE .44 Magnum”
Does the PSP get infected with something that mutates enough to allow the console to sprout a second right shoulder button too?
Some more images of this title from the Consumer Electronics Show (09) at the site below:

Do you know if the release date is still scheduled for the original date of “Spring”, then “March”, then [Tuesday!?!] “10 March 2009”, Three Speech?
If you visit the IGN page (below) it initially shows “February 24, 2009″, then changes to “March 13, 2009 (UK)”. This makes it look like the UK sees a delayed release, but I think I recall hearing that the European launch was only going to be a few days after the US.

Thanks for any additional information you can uncover.

Sounds like 13 March 2009 for Europe.
Sounds like a new system software (firmware) upgrade for the use of DUALSHOCK(r)3 controllers.
Sounds like a very busy February/March… “Killzone 2″, “Resident Evil 5″, “Resistance: Retribution”…
Resistance! Ha. That’s a good one! It’s the way you tell them, etc…

Resistance: Retribution dated for Europe
Posted on January 8th, 2009 at 11:16 EDT
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced today that Resistance: Retribution for PlayStation Portable will be released across Europe on March 13, 2009.
Retribution marks the series first entry on the Sony handheld platform, with the action depicting events between the original game and its sequel. Unlike the PS3 entries, Retribution places you in the shoes of former Royal Marine James Grayson and takes place from a third person perspective.
The game will feature online multiplayer functionality for up to eight players, a host of new weapons, along with the ability to play the game using a DualShock 3 controller for those of own a copy of Resistance 2 and have their PSP 2000/3000 connected via AV output to a TV.
A North American release date has yet to be announced, though expect one to crop up any time now.

It’s looks good to be a PSP game hope it plays well too.

Wow the PSP is capable of rendering near HD resolutions now and with full anti-aliasing according to these (bull)shots.

Well I see some pixels around the edges there so thats hardly full now is it?
But seriously the game looks pretty solid, the graphics look as good as GoW and Crisis Core, so hopefully it’ll be a pretty sweet game. I just hope at least some of the r2 stuff is available on my old fat psp. Don’t know why I’d want to play a portable game with a dual shock though, seems… weird. Oh and where is Everyday Shooter for the PSP? I can’t wait to take that on the go with me. I demand more downloads for the psp!

Is the PSP well worth owning? I’m in two minds about whether to get a PSP or an iPhone. Any advice welcome.

I wonder if it will be available for download from the PlayStation Store concurrently?
(I suspect not)

@CartBlanche: and you’re asking that on a Playstation blog? Sounds like you already made up your mind, you’re just looking for some confirmation and an excuse to go buy one :).
