Exciting stuff people… It’s the official Killzone 2 bundle: the game and a PS3 at a special price of £299.99.
Release date is still TBC, but will be confirmed shortly.
What do you think? Is it a system seller?

yeah definately, but what do we get in the bundle, just a console and one pad?? shame there was no CE of the Kilzone2 game though [sad smiley face] i expect the servers to up and die as per usual when this game is released though.
and if anyone want to pick up my new IP idea.. it’s set in the same universe as Mirror’s Edge but as a prequel, you play as a cycle courier/trials rider before the big companies finally lock everything down, running missions from the edge into the city and back etc. this time because of the violence/lawlessness of the Edge you get a handgun, the view is 1st person still, but with a replay view option after the mission, controls kept to the ME simple 3 button system with sixaxis/stick for balence while on the bike riding over narrow ledges etc. the play is in the environment between the shiney buildings of the new city and the run down ghettoished areas of the last free thinkers where the streets and lower building levels are the domain of the riders before the runners have to start using the rooftops. Trials has the same niche cool style as free running and would fit nicely into the ME universe i feel.
i’d play it anyway, my copy of Downhill Domination is looking a bit tatty
*goes back to looking busy*

that’s seriously messed up thinking.
who couldn’t possible wait 24hrs to pick it up from the shop/rental to try it?

Have to agree, that is a nice box!!!
Clever move from Sony, if this game is as good as I hope it is, it falls squarely in the genre that appeals to the Xbox 360 crowd - after all Halo single handedly sold the original Xbox.
It won’t budge the die hard fanboys but those on the fence that have had one red ring too many may be tempted by the added sweetener getting the game for free.
May also tempt those on the fence that are still holding on to PS2’s as well. Almost everyone will want this game so it’s effectly a £40 discount on the console…

I truly believe KZ2 could be a real system seller, only where are all the ADVERTS for it?
Comment by Mr.Monkey — Jan 20, 2009 @ 12:59 pm
It’s a shame SCEE never do anything to the actual console, just to the box - SCEJ often change the design printed on the console for their special editions.
Throwing in a white or silver one for some of these limited edition box runs wouldn’t hurt them either…
Comment by Apnomis — Jan 20, 2009 @ 1:10 pm
@ Mr.Monkey, that is always Sony’s great problem - they don’t have the money to burn on TV adverts. Had this been a 360 game it would be advertised every 5 minutes from now until release with a nice photo of that box at the end with the words “Console and Game from only £299 RSP”
Comment by Apnomis — Jan 20, 2009 @ 1:13 pm
I don’t think it will be a system seller until Sony announce the rumoured price drop in April. They should actually announce it with the release of Killzone 2. Once the PS3 price drops, assuming the game hype is still high in April, then systems will move.
Also it may be a bit too close to Xmas for people to be shelling out dosh of new systems.
Just a thought.

@Apnomis
The problem also was/is Sony wasted most of its war chest mostly on high concept adverts… Gambling on adverts to generate buzz rather than actual product specifics…
Downloaded some of the early US adverts from the US-Psn and they had “shock horror” in-game footage, mentioned actual Blu-ray titles (Spiderman 3 + Pirates of t C3) & actually showed a Ps3 console throughout & highlighted the price at the end…
We got a guy putting a poodle in a washing machine & rubber faced cowboys shooting candy bullets?
Go on US Psn & download the Universe advert & lament that was not the launch EU advert…

[...] ThreeSpeech reports that Sony are releasing a Killzone 2 PS3 bundle in the UK, priced at £299.99. That’s about $418 at the time of writing. The bundle includes the game and an 80GB PS3 console, as well as the fancy box. The release date is TBC currently, but expect it to be very near to the Killzone 2 release date. If you are in England, don’t yet have a PS3, have £300 to spare, and want Killzone 2, this is the perfect bundle for you! Hey, maybe they’ll widen the target audience by releasing it in the US, too. @Everyone+Dog
Wish there were adverts for this on the go….an internet banner campaign….or even an ARG…..anything at all would’ve been nice.
I hold out hope

@ Mr.Monkey, I saw the ‘Universe’ ad when it came out, IMO it’s probably the best PS3 ad to date - gameplay footage, explanation of features, catchy tune, slick presentation - perfect! But the US has had just as many ‘weird’ ads too - like the crows and the infamous crying doll.
SCEE did a similarily good ad for the PSP over Christmas (the ‘Whole World in your Hands’ ones) that had gameplay footage, explanation of features and catchy tune etc. Don’t know why they don’t adopt the same approach for PS3. The Christmas PS3 ads were a complete damp squib IMO - a Motorstorm car in a puddle and a 10ft scary looking Sackboy reflection does not sell the console - complete waste of time/money!
That being said they do advertise on other media too - they have a lot of web ads on the go for PSN, and games ads are often shown in Cinemas.
I saw a lot of the LBP adverts in the run up to Christmas (which weren’t that bad by SCEE’s standards), so it would be nice if they could give a similar budget to KillZone 2 promotion.
But even if the used their entire years advertising budget - you still wouldn’t see it as often as you see 360 ads! It must cost MS a fortune!

All Sony are trying to do with this bundle is hide the extortionate price they’re asking for their console, while competitors either started with an attractive price or have now reached a more-than attractive price.
Unfortunately £300 is still £300, with or without a bundled game and that’s a price just too high for even the remotely curious, let alone those still hoping that Sony will, one day, see the light and stop trying to recoup their development costs and aim for a larger installed base instead.
Sadly, I predict this will go the same way as the LBP bundle. Not because it’s not a good game - I’m sure it is - although on-line reviews are already saying it’s not a Halo/GoW beater, but simply because the installed base is just not there.
What Sony have effectively done to themselves is limit the success of their future game releases by being arrogant at the beginning of this console generation.

Are those of us who don’t want to buy a second PS3 going to get a bundle a la Fallout 3? Special Edition KZ2 with a figurine? Game with a poster? Anything? Micro$oft also manage to get bundles for big killa-app games…. does Sony follow suit these days? I don’t want to buy a new PS3, I’m happy with my 500Gb model thank you…..

Does this bundle include a Dual Shock 3 pad, or are Sony still trying to get rid of Sixaxis stock?
Does the bundle include a headset?
So, it’s basically a PS3 with Killzone 2 thrown into a nice looking box? I don’t know, I don’t think that many will be picking the bundle up.
I think Sony should do a limited-time special promotion. The Killzone 2 bundle (with a DS3 pad and official headset) for £249. I heard the PS3 is very close to breaking even. Obviously, I’m no economist, but as it stands, I don’t think the bundle is going to convince people to drop £299 on a PS3 with KZ2.

…The PlayStation Network logo is not on the outside of the PS3 retail boxes (”Killzone 2″ specific 80Gb pack to come in February, btw), but there is no mention of the ‘Store or the promise of anything other than the console in the box…
