London, 19th December 2009 – Sony Computer Entertainment Europe today announced that it would release the free WipEout®HD Trial Version on December 24th, available on PlayStation®Store. Since WipEout® rocketed into High Definition this September on PlayStation®Network it has taken the gaming world by storm. Featuring a selection of the best tracks from the iconic franchise remastered in stunning HD with a pumping soundtrack delivered in Dolby 5.1, WipEout®HD for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) is the fastest – and fastest-selling – PlayStation Network title to date. This November, it became PlayStation Network’s top-selling global download; SCEE is offering consumers the chance to sample the game for free with the WipEout HD Trial Version.
A free download from PlayStation Network, WipEout HD Trial Version will give consumers a complete track from the game to race at 600kph, delivered in 1080p High Definition. Strap yourself into an anti-gravity ship and speed into the thick of the action in a mix of racing, combat and pumping electronic music. You can go for all-out speed or for the blast-em-up approach – or a mixture of both. Play as many times as you like; then when the race is over, you’ll be given a preview of all of the tracks in the game – as well as a direct link to PlayStation Store, where you can unlock the full game for a reduced price until January 8th 2009.
Unlock the full game for a full range of modes, ships and tracks to be raced alone, with friends or online. Recent enhancements to the single-player and multi-player modes have made the game that’s achieved an average review score of 87 per cent even better! With Mag-Strips that help your ship grip the track, as well as classic race features including white-knuckle loops and stomach-churning vertical drops, you’ll feel the adrenaline pumping. Tilt and swerve your way to victory with the DUALSHOCK®3 Wireless Controller, racing up to eight players at once on PlayStation Network to the tunes of a thumping electronica soundtrack featuring Stanton Warriors, Optical and seminal electro pioneers Kraftwerk.
Are you ready to race? WipEout HD Trial Version is available to download for free from PlayStation Store on December 24th.

Another demo of a game that’s been out since September? Did I read that right? What about a demo of a game that’s yet to come out? Now that would be worth writing about!

I think most people who’d be interested in the game will already have bought it. I fail to see why this is meant to be exciting news.

Sony are now the epitome of ‘preaching to the converted’.
Why, instead of letting ‘us’ know, why not put together some adverts and stick them on the telly to show off all the good games and good features of the PS3? Quite honestly I almost cry every time I see another xbox advert. I love Sony and I’m a devoted PS fanboy so this complete and utter loss of direction in the PS3 advertising campaign makes me weep.
I’m now looking forward to a press release to appear on this site for LittleBigPlanet’s MetalGear pack… JEEEEEZ! GET A GRIP SONY!!
That said, it must be a difficult job working at 3speech. A semi-official blog with little coming out of the marketing department for you to report on. Merry Christmas.

It is news. Because many people will be opening up their presents and getting a PS3. They may be interested to know they can try out a demo of Wipeout HD if they are unsure about buying it.

Hey I’m looking forward to this demo. I was not a big fan of the earlier Wipeouts, so the demo may sway me.

I am also keen to see what all the “WipEout HD” fuss was/is about without having to pay £11.99 to find out that I don’t like it (as I was not keen on the earlier titles in the franchise).
Maybe Sony are listening (or learning)… given that a few of the selection box treats leading up to last year’s festive season were Playable Demos of “Kane & Lynch: Dead Men”, “TimeShift”, & “Clive Barker’s Jericho” all in advance of the full games being released to a cold front of wintry indifference with lacklustre sales.
PS. Other good news released to (other) sites today…
“PixelJunk Monsters” is coming to the PSP next year with extra content especially for the handheld version!
Maybe even before the PSP-4000 series is released to replace the failed PSP-3000 model &/or the (denied) PSP-2 hits the hands, laps, and matching new colour-schemes of the additional PS3 consoles.
I’m quite surprised the Ceramic White PS3 models that were out in Japan & the US last Christmas (…#I gave you my heart, but the very next day we had a delay…) haven’t found their way to Europe yet… but we’re also still waiting for the Gun Metal (Gear Solid) editions too.
I bet Apple have Gun Metal iPhone variants waiting to touch the masses next year…
BFN,
fp.

Yeh a demo a few months back would have been handy, problem is all the people who are interested have the game. You either love Wipeout or hate it, very much a Marmite game. As for Sony’s advertising campaign they’ve very much got a bit big headed thinking that the success of PS2 will pull them through. I’ve not seen one PS3 ad this christmas, explain that…

Demos kill games, I’m going to say it again… just look what LBP and Resistance betas did to those games in terms of sales.
