Stop whatever you’re doing (unless it’s something like surgery or flying a plane) and get over to IGN. They’ve got a big feature on the Metal Gear Solid content pack that’s coming to LittleBigPlanet. That’s right, the two most popular PS3 games of 2008 have been combined.
Yes, news of this pack has been leaked before, but IGN’s preview has got the official facts and even some comment from Alex Evans of Media Molecule. The content looks great and in addition to a range of lovable costumes, there are levels, assets and even a storyline. Particularly exciting for the future of LittleBigPlanet is the emergence of the ‘Paintinator’. Click this link here for more info and then come back and tell us what you think…
This looks amazing. Should really increase the diversity of levels!

That MGS LBP DLC content trailer was lush, I need a change of boxers!
Thats some DLC I’d happily pay for!

What we need is more hype about Crash Commando. That game is sublime - especially as online multiplayer.

Whats the deal with the trophies?
I’ve just looked and LBP has like 10 new trophies?
How does this affect the Platinum one?

As I started-up the downloadable content video…
Seven Year Old: “I know that’s the Metal Gear Solid music”
Six Year Old; “But that’s Little Big Planet…Cool! You get to shoot stuff!”
Says it all really.
Almost as good a reaction as they had to this…
“Mirror’s Edge(tm) 2D”
(And almost as amusing as the same six year old trying to sing “a**” in Robbie Williams’ “Let Me Entertain You” on SingStar; “a star star” didn’t scan that well with the line but it was funny!)
Anyone who has the Platinum Trophy in “LittleBIGPlanet” already will not be affected.
Anyone who hasn’t [as if!?! ;)] then your game-play has just been extended.
PS. ‘tone: Isn’t there a new moderation system with the recent update? You get to fix the offending items offline & re-submit?
Let us know when your level is available & I’ll let my “testing” kids on it.
In fact, Three Speech: why don’t you ask for everybody to send in a list of their user-defined levels & we can sneak in another competition before Christmas? Or wait until the early New Year when everybody with a PS3 from Santa can join in as well?
With that in mind, is Three Speech closed for the holidays? If so, how long?

Metal Gear Solid hits LBP for the Holidays- 12/23!
LBP and MGS fans alike are in for a treat! If you checked out the PS Blog today you will see all the details on the new Premium Metal Gear Solid® Level and Costume Packs that are hitting the PS Store on December 23rd.
The Metal Gear Solid Premium Costume Pack will come complete with the Solid Snake outfit we revealed at TGS. But in addition you will see favorites like Meryl Silverburgh, Screaming Mantis & Raiden who will each have LBP costume
Each costume is available at $1.99 each or get all 4 costumes for the price of 3 at $5.99. But it doesn’t just stop with costumes, player-creators have the option of getting the….
Metal Gear Solid Premium Level Pack for $5.99 which fills your Pop-it tool with a ton of MGS-themed “Create” materials, objects and stickers plus a whole lot more.
Things like-
A 5th Sackboy costume…the Gurlokovich Soldier (see above).
72 New Stickers
12 New Materials
10 New Decorations
18 New objects
New background music track
3 new interactive music tracks
New Metal Gear Solid themed ‘sound object’
New Plasma Ball ‘danger element’
New Laser Sight ‘gadget’
New functioning Searchlight lamp
12 new Trophies to unlock
and best of all…..THE PAINTINATOR and Paint Switch
With the THE PAINTINATOR you’ll be able to splatter anything that comes between you and the end of any level. Shoot paintballs with the R1 button and using the right stick to aim. Paintballs will hit very weak slap. Shoot ‘Brains’ from a safe distances now and progress thru levels much easier. The Paint Switch, so you can attach it to any object and set it to destruct after being splattered with enough paint.
This new Level Pack is very exciting as these new items will open up the kind of levels Creators can make!
Now if you don’t buy it, no worries, you’ll still be able to enjoy the MGS fun! Non-MGS Level Pack owners can PLAY the MGS Story Levels by joining a “host” who owns the pack and play the levels online together. You won’t be able to keep any objects, but you can experience the new features. MGS Level Pack owners will also be able to CREATE levels with any of these items (including the Paintinator) and SHARE them online for everyone to play.
Again, we’re very excited to present this MGS Level Pack to you as a taste of how LBP can and will continue to evolve over time! More details on the PS Blog. Be certain we will continue to provide more LBP goodness down the road in 2009.
Have a Merry Holiday and a Happy New Year!

Platinum trophy is only awarded for completing the shipped number of trophies, DLC ones are additional but required if you want to achieve 100% completion.

@ fp - the level is called ‘XMAS IN WONDERLAND’ a journey back to the dark days of 1984, totally worth loading for the *nativity scene* and the JetPac tribute, it rocks
12hrs from start drawing to finish and still hit 80% on the memory bar!! loaded up and published just fine. dare i say it, LBP seems to be fixed!
now if they could just sort out the P/C/S scores side of things.
the moderation is improved now, any naughty words just get *******’d out, i didn’t get away with using ‘bugger’, the search function is greatly improved too, try it out. there’s a LBP Store option as well under the main planet to check out your downloads.

Thanks ‘tone.
I did try it out around 3am this morning (and tagged it with a keyword), but I didn’t manage to reach the end. I got stuck at the bit where you had suspended horizontal platforms with the ghosts of Christmas past descending as I had to retrieved parts of a tree (I think).
Was I expected to go vertically above the platforms or horizontally to the right over the wall at the edge of the screen?
My recollection may not be 100%… as I mentioned, it was 3am…
Made me laugh in any respect. Looks like you spent many hours on it. Out of interest, how long do you estimate it took?

@fanpages - ah, that was the JetPac section, you have to build the rocket to unlock the red door. use the jetpack and grab the white sections and slot them together. that section is blocked in, no way out until the ships built
you can grab the green boxes to release points balls inside, the floaty/falling things will kill you, as you found out -hehe- if you make it to the end of the full level the xmas tree section is gonna blow you away.
did you find the throw JS from the roof of Sony towers bit to unlock a trophy?
it took about 12hrs from having the idea and scribbling some designs down to uploading the completed thing. i do play test rather a lot before that though and get a mate to do the same just in case there’s anything weird can be done, unlike a lot of levels i’ve seen created.

jetpac video for people not old enough to know the joy of loading my first pirate game back in the dark times before Sony, i played that game until the tape wore out

augh! nothing is sacred - Jetpac Refuelled - available on MSLA for 400 points.

I remember the Ultimate (Play The Game) “Jetpac” title from the early 80’s written/drawn by Chris & Tim Stamper (who later founded Rareware). After the other classic Ultimate titles (my favourites of which were “Sabre Wulf”, “Knight Lore”, “Atic Atac”, “Nightshade”, & “Alien 8″), they progressed through other platforms & erm, ultimately, produced “Viva Piñata” for the Xbox 360.
So, you were right!
[My childhood was owned by Acorn Computers]
Worthly of mention in this time(splitting)line we should be thankful that some of development team members at Rareware (alphabetically; David Doak, Steve Ellis, Karl Hilton, Graeme Norgate & Lee Rayat) who worked on the Nintendo 64 (1997) “Goldeneye 007″ title left the company after the game’s release (and early into the development of “Perfect Dark”) & formed Free Radical Design.
Without this move the “Timesplitters” franchise (originally for the Sony PlayStation 2, but later series titles for the Nintendo GameCube & Microsoft Xbox) would not have been created. (And “Haze” too, of course).
Then we come full circle to the recent blog entry, “What was so great about 2008? Ten things we loved about this year” [ Comment by fanpages — Dec 18, 2008 @ 6:36 pm ].
As the vultures (from other development houses) descend on the staff left in limbo with Free Radical Design, artist Nick Carver is now available for hire.
Take a look at the work he produced for the “Timesplitters 4″ title…

Little Big Planet MGS DLC Delayed
Dec 23rd 2008 - 9:12 PM
Despite Media Molecule creating what is perhaps the most awesome DLC content ever, for any game; Sony have managed to disappoint the community by not releasing it on the day on which they announced they would.
European Community Team Leader ‘Muster Buster’ has told European Community Forum members that the content will be released “Not today, cant confirm tomorrow.“.
Naturally, this is a huge disappointment for the LBP community. Many players have been checking the PlayStation Store all day, waiting for the content to arrive. Again, communication is an issue for players here, as it is unlikely that the decision not to launch today was made late in the day. A simple announcement would have been fine.
With Muster Buster saying he can’t even confirm it’s release for tomorrow, we wouldn’t be surprised if the release date slipped to Thursday, the day when the PlayStation Store gets its regular update.
Will it still launch in U.S and Asia? We’ll update with more news when we hear it.
[UPDATE]
The U.S has now received the MGS DLC on the U.S PlayStation Store, Dec 23rd 6pm E.S.T. We can’t confirm Japan or other regions, but Europe is still MGS-packless, for no significant reason.
SCEE did inform press that the pack would be released in Europe on Dec 23rd, it was confirmed when they announced their pricing for the packs across Europe.
Interestingly, SCEE sent out a press release last week saying that there will be a Wipeout HD demo on the European PlayStation Store on Christmas Eve. If they do update the store tomorrow, then there is a good chance of the MGS packs arriving at the same time.
1am update perhaps? Maybe that’s hopeful, but keep your eyes peeled in Europe.
Americans… get downloading!
