Big thanks to Alex Morris (PSN: GLASSWITCH) for the illustration. Looks great, doesn’t it?
That’s it, another year has passed. We’ve been with you through the ups and downs of 2008, risking life and limb across the world to file stories on the world of PlayStation. We’re off for now, but we will return in 2009. Can’t wait, because as both Nostradamus and Keith Stuart have foretold, it’s going to be a great year for the PS3.
Thank you to our intrepid contributors, Keri Allan, Steve Boxer, Keith Stuart, Chris Burke, Tom Eccles, Jonathan Porter, Rob Scotcher and many more. Apologies if you’ve been left out of the list, thank yourself in the thread and we’ll agree when we get back…
Biggest thanks of all goes to y’all who have been dropping by, reading the stories, leaving comments, keeping the threads lively and sending us emails. Please keep talking amongst yourselves on Three Speech until we return. Looking forward to catching up with all of you next year!

bye bye SCEE-employees for giving the biggest crap this year.
Home ,is the smallest of all regions
still no PSN cards in the EU
crap pricing schema in contrairity to the real values of the pound, euro and dollar
good but empty statements from david Reeves(EU is the most important region of the world)
hopefully the financial crisis makes sure the worst employees gets laid off and next year.
the SCEE is the best region of the world
the rest all the best (even in crappy years)

I bought a PS3 at launch now i want to buy my 2 kids a ps3 each, im i going to but them for £300.00 each….NO.
Sony, get real and bring that price drop we all need, there’s a recession on.
Comment by anthonyp — Dec 29, 2008 @ 10:59 am
@11 [anthonyp]:
The 40Gb PS3 console was available direct from Sony Style for £249, or an extra tenner for the 80Gb model, on 1 December 2008, but they seem to have jumped back up to £289 each now…
[ https://www.sonystyle.co.uk/SonyStyle/b2c/display/(xcm=PCM_b2ccrmstandard&layout=15_114_61_50_115_119_2&uiarea=2&ctype=areaDetails&carea=45FF6857FA3C007A000000002BC29B85)/.do ]
PS. Two of my kids received 160Gb models from the big fat man in the Coca-Cola themed suit this year (to complement my existing European release day 60Gb model).
Sony’s over-zealous Parental Control Restrictions policy with the newly created PlayStation Network accounts (registered using my kids’ real date of births) has meant that we cannot even create LAN-based multi-player games of “Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2″ or “The Club” without reverting back to their sub-accounts from my original PSN Id (where their date of births were not specified).
The National Grid has already been on the telephone to ask if we would like to reduce our gaming time during the Christmas showings of “EastEnders” & “Coronation Street” due to our increased power-draining requirements

I was just play Super Stardust Portable on my PSP (good game but hurt by the analogue nub), and I was thinking about what new games I would like to see:
Incredible Crisis 2
Remember the original from the PS1’s heyday? This was a great game and I’m still waiting for that sequel that was hinted at in the ending.
Jumping Flash! 3
Way back in the beginning of PS1, Jumping Flash! 1 and 2 were some of the best games for it. You can still experience it by downloading Jumping Flash! from the PSN store! But what I’d really want is a new Jumping Flash! sequel with gorgeous modern graphics… it would look great even on the PSP.
New game by Quantic Dream
Oh hey, that’s being made already? Good job…

Hello,
I hope Sony will realize that the only thing that could make Sony PS3 survive, is having exclusive games.
Why would someone buy a PS3 to play GTA IV if he can enjoy the same game on a cheapest console ??
You have to realize that it is not the number of colors or the blue ray that will make the success, but games.
The PS2 was a success because of its fantastic games, not because of its DVD, or because of its optional network adapter that most people was not even aware of.
Happy New Year, I hope 2009 will bring MANY exclusivities to the PS3. Put pression on developers, buy development studios, make it happen !

Happy New Year to you too, Marvzilla.
I expect some of you (overseas from the UK) will have celebrated the incoming new year much earlier than myself (some 10 hours ago) but, in any respect, I hope everybody will have a happy & prosperous 2009.
I also expect the lack of posts in the last week means that those who received games/consoles as gifts are keeping themselves occupied elsewhere
Something I noticed that made me smile this morning, for your equal amusement:

“Ernst & Young to use PS3 for virtual meetings”
30 December 2008
Ernst & Young to use PS3 for virtual meetings In an effort to cut costs and reduce carbon emissions, UK financial services businesses, including Ernst & Young, are to trial holding management conferences through Playstation 3’s new virtual world Home.
The move is part of a project led by Dr Nipan Maniar and Manish Malik from Portsmouth University, which was commissioned by Advanced Workplace Associates and aims to explore how large companies can use virtual worlds to reduce costs on office space and travel, as well as their carbon footprints.
Other firms taking part in the project include *** Microsoft *** and Merrill Lynch.
Managing director of Advanced Workplace Associates, Andrew Mawson, said: “Increasingly we are living in a world without borders where workers need to collaborate on a global scale.
“Audio and video-conferencing solutions have emerged but the use of virtual worlds may offer the next evolution in overcoming the tyranny of distance - a more realistic and learning-enhanced environment.”…

Talking of (in) “Home”, has everybody seen the ‘glitch’ videos at YouTube{dot}com.
And, may I recommend everybody has at least one blast of “The PaintInator” weapon in the “Paint of the Patriots” parody of the LittleBigPlanet™ Metal Gear Solid® - Level Kit (Game Pack)?
I hope to meet many new friends and chat with some already established ThreeSpeech ‘regulars’ during this year.
Best Wishes to all…

Playing Valkyria Chronicles at the moment. A sleeper PS3 exclusive if ever I saw one. Absolute blinder of a gamer from Sega. RPG elements with strategy. If you value exclusives and want them to continue, you’d do well to give it a moment of your gaming time.
Happy new year.
Comment by RoarrrUK — Jan 1, 2009 @ 10:18 pm
“Valkyria Chronicles” is rated quite highly in the “PS3 Best of 2008″ awards at PS3Fanboy:
The game is also presently only GBP 14.99 at the Wilkinsonplus web site.
(I would quote a hyperlink but that would just be adding to my growing pile of comments in the Three Speech moderation queue)

I’ve now taken to not quoting a website in the comment submission form as this seems to be at least one contributing factor to the issue.
