Ben Healey is a gamer and blogger. He writes about a lot of things, in a ’surprisingly good’ way (as described by one of his readers). We really enjoyed this story on his blog, which is all about why he loves LittleBigPlanet. Now, there’s a lot of articles of this type about at the moment, but this one is particularly interesting because for Healey, it’s all about the physics…

I have to say I love this game, last night I first started creating stuff, and I managed to build a working tank, with moving turret and a working cannon.

This seems as good a thread as any to ask a question: How do i make actual lethal “bullets”? I’ve made a creature with a “gun”(hope thats thought of as suitable for all) but i want it to fire something as close to laser beams as possible, so i was going to have him firing electrified spears using an emitter, however there doesnt seem to be a way to lethalise things that are emitted… so im now puzzled as online ive fought a massive dragon that spewed fire balls among other things… any ideas?

Can’t you lethalize it, and then save it as an object?

what he said, create the object you want to fire, lethalise it, save object using the lasso thingy, then in your emitter select the saved object to fire.

fire object at small children, get level moderated.

Ah yes! Thats really obvious actually thankyou for answering my question and making me feel slightly stupid at the same time. I think theres something wrong with how the level creator and time as a whole work too. Hopefully MM will release a patch for this. I watched that thing on Einstein the other night and that didn’t answer anything either, it seems time operates differently when I’m using the level creator, I seem to age significantly faster while everybody around me live full lives. Like some sort of vacuum…

@ JS - think yourself lucky they pulled the level with the push johnsketch into the fireypit section.. killjoys i still have the little sketchy sack victim. i think if you complete pt1, should be up still, it’s one of the prizes.

it may get sneaked back into a new level build later on.

way to busy with midnight club (IDOL rank and 180+ wins) and Valkyria chronicles (battle 5) lately for LBP.

I’ve built an awsome tank, just need to build the rest of the level. I’m tempted to a warhawk themed level, just a bit worried Sony will nuke it :/

well, I spent my day off yesterday making a level from start to finish, going for a tribute, part to the Ed Wood film Plan 9 from outer space, and part to the war of the worlds(doing a search for ted wooden will probs get you, it if anybodys interested). I counted the hours and it took me over ten hours overall to build a level I think could probs be cleared in about five minutes. It’s pretty hard work but it’s made me completely appriciate some of the better levels. It’s quite fun making the levels but also pretty bloody annoying… Please do a warhawk level, so that I don’t have to!

dear TS, now that LBP has dropped like a brick from the top 20 games sales charts can you stop banging on about it.

this game got everything that it deserved.

i think the fact it’s been outsold by PES on the PS2 and Wii sports sold nearly more this week than LBPs total sales says a lot.

The level moderation process is something we’re continually improving. The small percentage of levels moderated have been done so after the community has reported them using the Good Grief tool. We never moderate levels that have not been reported in this way. The vast majority of moderated levels were due to offensive material, however we are evolving the way moderation happens to ensure that creators are made aware of why their level was blocked. More to come shortly.

Servers
We hope you’ve noticed that over the past few weeks, we’ve been working away and our servers are now much improved - from the updated scoreboards to the connection speeds. Just know we’re constantly looking to improve the experience and your feedback has been very helpful. Additionally, below are a few online stats for your viewing pleasure:

* # of user generated (UG) levels = 177,657
* # of comments = 1,093,491
* # of times Story levels have been played online = 36,661,881
* # of times UG levels have been played online = 22,463,892
* # of levels played online = 59,125,403

Finally, some of you are wondering what happened to the Day 1 T-Shirt mentioned in the past. This was available in other countries for (equivalent of) $4.99, but we decided to hold back its availability in North America as we evaluate if such a unique item (RARE + $4.99 + time-based) is appropriate for our PS Store. There may be other RARE items like this in the future, so check back on future DLC announcements…
