No small claim that, but ClassZeroCommando would certainly agree. His review on Gamepro praises Far Cry 2 on the PS3 with a straight five out of five, saying that the game has “really moved shooters forward.”

Getting from A-B is annoying and borders on game breaking thanks to the respawning guard posts, but pulling off a plan or just changing it on the fly is most satisfying Fps experience I have had in a long time…
A simple patch to make sure guards re-spawn 20-30 mins in realtime not 3-4 mins and you’d be cooking with gas ubisoft…

Far Cry 2 - it’s different….
To be honest it should never have been labelled “Far Cry 2″ as there are no islands or evil geniuses or mutant crazy rocket launching monsters….

I’m sure Far Cry 2 is a good game, but posting a user review of some random 17-year-old kid posting on a game board is certainly scraping the bottom of the review barrel.
Seriously, guys.

Yeah as said if they patched this so guards didnt respawn straight away they would be onto a winner, the ability to approach a mission any way you want is awesome. Would liked to see stealth play a much bigger part, even with the stealth suite they still seem to see you straight away. another thing was that in the trailers they showed the enemy assisting fallen comrades so you could take them out, I’ve not seen this. Great game but not a 5/5.

Terry, I finished Farcry2 and saw this happen once in the whole game. However most of the time the guards seemed to have super human hearing / eyesight and you’d not be able to get near enough to do any sneaking.
As mentioned, the respawning spoiled this game, and it’s a very impressive one that could have been perfect with just a little more common sense.
Unfortunately, once I’d entered the final few missions, you can’t go back to do the side missions I found the hard way, and that stopped me feeling the urge to play any more in the single player.
The Multiplayer was excellent too, once you’d waited 5 mins to get into a game. Then you’d get kicked and have to search another 5 mins for another. Not sure if this was patched but the game has sat gathering dust for 3 weeks now and I’ve been playing others instead.
Conclusion, this is ALMOST the best FPS I’ve ever played, but a few silly little problems have let it down. Still I enjoyed every minute and would recommend it to any shooter fans that are sick of ‘on the rails’ type games. 9/10 from me despite it’s annoyances.

I’m afraid it’s Gears of War 2, not FC2

Too bad its not on PS3 though…

Aragorn, that all depends on your point of view surely?
I am not a fan of Space Marine type games so don’t like Halo, Unreal, resistance etc as I like realism and real feeling guns.
To me the best shooters are Farcry2, Battlefield:BC and even COD. None of these are perfect, and COD4 is overated imo, but I still like them better than the sci-fi equivalents.
Hopefully Killzone2 will sway my opinion in a couple of months time…

I love Gears 2, (on my second play-through) but its NOT a First person shooter, its 3rd person a different genre…
(& poor Dom)
Also Left4dead is amazing…
huge shame theres no Ps3 version…

@ 7,8&9
Yeah, sorry - it is 3rd person. I guess CoD4 then. Not played 5 yet. Any good? If Killzone one is anything to go by KZ2 will be awesome!
Comment by Aragorn1001 — Nov 27, 2008 @ 3:48 pm
aaragorn, yeah I think COD5 is good, nice change of scenery & weapons from COD4, but not too different to annoy most fans. Treyarch have done a very good job.

Played Gears of War 2 the other day. Wasn’t that impressed tbh. However, this game will never be for me. It’s all too false, American and OTT with these gruff space marines with jaws to put Coulthard’s to shame. I worry that Killzone 2 will be just like this too. It’s kid’s stuff, really.
Graphics good in places but everything is way too detailed in an unrealistic way - it’s all popping out with detail like a good artist didn’t know when to stop fiddling with his painting.
The gameplay was ok, nothing 10/10 special. Nice variety between the levels I played. An impressive number of enemies in the screen at once too - this surprised me.
Going to stop with my mini-review of GoW2 now, because I’m way off topic and really - who cares?
