SCEE has just sent us this statement on the new release date for LittleBigPlanet:
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is pleased to confirm that LittleBigPlanet will start to appear in stores no later than the week commencing Monday 3rd November in the UK, Europe, Middle East, Australia and New Zealand, on a country by country basis. We appreciate all the enthusiasm surrounding this much anticipated title and we would like to thank PlayStation fans for their support and understanding.
Let us know your thoughts. As ever, we’ll keep you updated with any further developments…
So, does that mean the game will available to buy on Monday 3rd or what?…
Comment by funkyellowmonkey(ps3 id) — Oct 20, 2008 @ 11:19 am
So is that the 3rd in the uk, because thats a Monday and we don’t usually get games on a monday. Whats the betting this really means the UK release is the 7th (i.e. the usual Friday), but they just don’t want to say that.
Comment by Mark — Oct 20, 2008 @ 11:22 am
That has to be the vaguest press release ever.
First copies starting to appear no later than week commencing 3rd Nov…?
That could be interpreted as anything between
(a) loads of copies in store before 3rd November
right up to
(b) one or two copies in one shop on Saturday 8th, followed by many more in January
Nicely worded, SCEE. Should have covered your arses nicely there with that one.
Comment by Kevling — Oct 20, 2008 @ 11:22 am
Probably the 7th for UK I think.

Hahaha, yeah, it’s not even worth releasing that!!!!!! So some copies might begin to be released, sometime around the 7th (maybe), but on a country by country basis (but were not telling you which countries), lol.
Please, just tell us what day the UK version will get released and whether there will be plenty of stock or not.
This has dissaster written all over it, I bet they release like 20,000 copies in the UK on the 7th, and then kick the backside out of it by keeping a very small supply trickling through. They will probably think it will be great publicity to have the game out of stock everywhere for months like when the wii launched.

Some people are never happy….
It’s still out earlier than first though, i.e. the 14th and what’s a couple of weeks anyway?
Of course I’m a little disappointed about the whole thing but it’s happened, just be happy there isn’t a 2 or 3 month delay like usually happens!

I would advise people waiting for a uk release in november not to hold their breath.Remember…Sony HATES europe.I might get a us import like i did with disgaea 3.I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a deliberate delay to try and shift more PS3+LBP deals for christmas.

Never mind. I work in a game store, so I’m guaranteed a copy whenever it comes out!

The “on a country by country basis” part scares me. This means that Sony can release LBP in the smaller countries they don’t care about on the 7th (like Australia and NZ). Why the hell don’t they just say the 7th?
I guess they don’t want to admit that they won’t have enough stock to feed PAL regions seeing as they’ll be feeding all the stock to the US first. Idiots.
Comment by SinsToJudge — Oct 20, 2008 @ 12:22 pm
guys, have you read the background for this delay?

Why do I get the feeling that all initail resources are being pumped into getting the U.S copy out on time?? They get a definate 27th Oct, we get some time after the 3rd, if they can be bothered.
Comment by dwarfsmuggler — Oct 20, 2008 @ 12:43 pm
I must admit that at first I was quite annoyed and posted up a rant on the other LBP post, I’ve calmed down now (I’m 2 days off 30 years old, I should know better) and realised that having both Dead Space and LBP to play on the same day wouldn’t have worked anyway. I’m quite glad of the 2ish weeks wait now.

Typical of SCEE.
P a load of people off by delaying the game (for nothing that couldn’t have been sorted in a patch) and then release a half assed statement about the release. How hard is it to give a date. It’s pretty easy isn’t it, Microsoft manage it all the time. Ass hats.

@Sebi
Are you kidding, where have you been?
@Robothamster
I know what you are saying but allot of people are upset because of the double standards by Sony and not so much the delay.
I’m piss~d cause I had booked a week off work for the game, I know that is pretty sad but hey that’s me.
The original complaint found here:
http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:BuPMgf6T4UIJ:community.eu.playstation.com/playstationeu/board/message%3Fboard.id%3D611%26message.id%3D8388+%22tapha+Niang%22+quran&hl=da&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=dk
asked for the game to be patched, which MM has had got ready for day 0, and yet they still recalled. Some may argue that Sony will receive allot of publicity for this that could not have been bought, I personally disagree with that and think that it is more negative publicity than they can not afford at the mo.
allot of people have argued that in other games RFOM, hitman, one of the Zelda games also contained offensive material and was not recalled in the same way. Plus the offending music has been on general sale since 2006 and that was ok and was not recalled and destroyed.
A patch would have been the easiest and fastest way to resolve the problem. And considering that the person/s offended recommended that as a solution because they knew that game had gone gold and the MM obviously meant no offensive by including this song it just seems like madness has taken over Sony.
Comment by manley — Oct 20, 2008 @ 1:17 pm
Guys, I think they’re being a bit “vague” on the release date because they’re working flat out to get the game out to stores. I reckon we’ll see some retailers have it earlier than others and I doubt Sony will stop any of them selling it as soon as it arrives in their inventory.
Comment by reakt — Oct 20, 2008 @ 1:23 pm
i just off the phone to my local (family run) computer games retailer and they have had an email stating that they will recieve the game 31st october!! im in the uk so maybe there is hope that others will filter through before the official new release date.
or maybe my shop will recieve another email later!

Yeah I agree with this completely, LBP is (to get the most out of it) an online game so a Patch should have been the course of action.
For some reason Sony went the ‘Total Recall’ route, I guess because not everyone will have the game connected online so won’t get the patch. I can understand why they are being extra precautious with this title over others, it’s a game that can be played by very small children who may understand the lines in that song, and could offend.
It’s a little different to the RFOM saga, that game was a shooter, aimed at older gamers who are less likely to go crying to their parents when hearing things like ‘Every soul shall have the taste of death’.
Hard line to walk here for Sony, I can see why people are upset but I think ultimately Sony have taken the correct solution eveb though I think a patch would have been better. They want Sackboy to be their 1st icon to be against Mario and they need to ensure he will be squeaky clean so as not to get any further negative publicity in the future.

@Robothamster + @manley
Yeah I’ve booked a week off too, If I didn’t book it off I’d most likely just waste most my spare time out of work playing LBP, FableII, Farcry, etc, and probably lose my girlfriend in the process! So this way I can get the games out of my system and keep everybody happy.
It sounds to me that copies will be being sold in shops on the 3rd but probably in limited supply so they can’t guarentee you’ll get a copy, but its not clear so I could be wrong.
Problem is though the week I booked off begins 3rd Nov, so it would be a big help if Sony could confirm whether or not it will be being sold in the shops on that day?! If not then I have the chance now to cancel my days off.
Care to re-confirm your release date re-comfirmation statement Sony?
By the way it sounds fishy that the mistake was spotted during their review process, as it had already gone gold weeks back? It would be silly for a company to put a product through the review/approval process after its production had started rather than before, common business sense?

Has anyone considerer the fact that there are only 9 weeks to Christmas and pretty much every minute of time at duplicating plants is already allocated towards production for the multitude of CDs and DVDs that get released at Christmas. Its just about the worst thing, at the worst time, that could happen to them.

Some whiners and Sony haters here should try and go take a walk somewhere. It’s obvious that this was an unfortunate event that happened because of our messed up Planet (yeah, Earth).
Could this be avoided? Of course it could (and should)! But I bet there’s no one that is sadder or angrier than Sony and Media Molecule! So, I’m sure things are being handled the fastest as is humanly possible to remedy this.

Comment by Yamster@SG — Oct 20, 2008 @ 3:13 pm
Why no demo again? What’s wrong with providing the game in the Beta state (latest build) on Thursday to tide them over, and serve those with time off work who had been planning to play this with their kids over the half term, etc.?
I can get the reaction, the recall, the vague dates, all of which have clear reasons even if I don’t agree with them. But I don’t get why Sony are avoiding the digital distribution option.
Comment by Shifty Geezer — Oct 20, 2008 @ 3:46 pm
According to MM own site it should be on the 5th in the UK
:)
Can’t wait
Comment by mjones — Oct 20, 2008 @ 3:53 pm
Yup, spot on Shifty Geezer..
I thought LBP was going to be released as Downloadable purchase anyway? So, why not just have that ready to go on the respective release dates?
Is this technically impossible (after all we only put a man on the moon nearly 40 years ago)?
Or have I missed the point somewhere?
I soooo want this game. If I had a cat, I’d kick it. :¬(
Comment by Marcos — Oct 20, 2008 @ 4:06 pm
@ Marcos,
LBP can’t be a downloadable purchase because apparently the Blu-Ray disc contains 40 Gbs worth of textures, material etc and I’m sure you wouldn’t want those eating up your valuable HDD space!

I think a lot of you have missed the point with the week commencing the 3rd. Different countries have different days for new releases, in the uk it’s Friday. So we will get it on the 7th.
Another country might be tuesdays and get it on the 4th, another might be Saturdays and get it on the 8th.

@ robothamster - “very small children who may understand the lines in that song”
very small Somalian Muslim children! seriously, what are the odds?? there are even muslims posting in forums/video of the offending matter that they don’t even hear the words or understand them.
what about all the crucifixions in BioShock? people nailed up to blood soaked walls above piles of bibles and wooden crucifixes… i’m pretty sure that’s slightly more offensive than a couple of phrases that were used in a book once.
