At this stage, I’m wondering why Sony don’t just put it up for download on the Store.
Everyone must have it by now!
Comment by Heartsbane — Oct 3, 2008 @ 6:53 pm
I’m wondering if the current Beta trial is going to end on 11 October 2008, as planned, given that in the past few days more “keys” have been provided to US consumers, and now Europe is receiving another batch.
Also, I know it is an (early) Beta build, but with over 4Gb of free space on my hard drive, my 6 year old has spent a few hours interacting with the “LittleBigPlanet” (Beta) Tutorial, and created his own level.
After saving it to his “My Levels” area, returning to the “Pod”, and then attempting to exit the game, he was prompted with:
“Your profile cannot be saved because it is too large. Try deleting unwanted items from My Pictures, My Objects, My Costumes, or My Levels.”
HmmmMm…

Off topic for this thread, but something that may cheer you up if you missed out on a promotional code this time…
Thinking of buying a PS3 soon & wishing the PS2 Backward Compatibility (from the 60Gb model) was still an option?
I’ve highlighted an interesting aspect of the description for the PS3 80Gb model (that presumably will apply to every other model soon)…

Now is the time for PS3 80GB Console. In fact there is no reason now not to get the Sony Playstation 3, especially at this new lower price with all it’s hi-def bells & whistles. The new 80-Gig PS3 System features the ability to play PS3 Games, Blu-rays & DVD movies *** (PS2 Games can be played when downloading Sony’s PS2 emulator software online) ***. Also connect to the internet for free online play & downloadable games! To date, the PlayStation3 is the strongest gaming system available and also the lowest price true high definition Blu Ray Movie Player.

“Rumor Killer: No PS2 Emulator Available”

But hey… you can still play PS1 titles… and there’s loads of great games sadly over-looked in the back catalogue.
OK, enough already…
When is Phase Two of the IGN “beta key” giveaway?

Been trying my damndest to get a beta key
Applied over at the LBP site, gametrailers, ign, SCE “enter area here” and yet no joy
If you happen to get a spare pass it on!

I’m guessing the second phase will be at 8pm tonight - won’t it? It would make sense to have it at the same time as last night anyway…
I read somewhere that the beta finishes October 12th. They’re probably ramping things up in the final week to make sure the servers can handle tonnes more people for launch.
I can’t wait!

Think that was referring to the old US 80Gb, which supported BC via emulation…
Comment by Mr. Monkey — Oct 4, 2008 @ 11:16 am
And all the IGN beta keys left are for people who subscribe “pay cash money” to IGN, at least thats the case with fileplanet (IGN run site)
Comment by Mr. Monkey — Oct 4, 2008 @ 11:20 am
@ Mr Monkey
I got a key last night, and i’ve never given them a penny. To be fair though things might have changed since then, or the sign up/login process is just a bit lame and confusing… a friend of mine was trying to get one last night and was also saying “yeah they want money”
Worht getting the key though - it’s as awesome as everyone keeps saying it is.
Comment by El Stefio — Oct 4, 2008 @ 12:14 pm
Keyword: keys *left*, to be honest I am not that bothered the retail version is out in a few weeks…

does any1 know how many keys wee given away in the 1st phase????
Comment by adairdevil — Oct 4, 2008 @ 12:55 pm
This whole beta key thing and limited demo stuff is annoying. I know their using it to drum up hype but it doesnt work it just annoys the crap out of people who are already feeling second rate compared to America and the like. With only a few weeks to go they really should do a public demo.

Comment by Balgarion — Oct 5, 2008 @ 12:42 pm
Got mine yesterday evening. Didn’t need to subscribe. It seems they release some to non-subscribers every so often. Got to admit that it’s easy to see what all the fuss is about. Excellent game so far, and everything put together so perfectly. The narration is very hitchhikers, and suits the game to a tee. I think that, once the full game arrives, I’ll be barricading myself in at home, and not surfacing again for many months!
Comment by MuggleMind — Oct 5, 2008 @ 2:50 pm
Hmm $20 for a beta demo, I think I’ll wait for the full game.
Comment by lxd — Oct 5, 2008 @ 2:52 pm
Why are you guys talking about subscribing? I got one and all I had to do was register with FilePlanet (free registration just like any forum)
I think some are reserved for subscribers but no money left my tight fist!

Sign-up to FilePlanet if needed but ignore the note about paid subscription. Click through to the site home page & then click the banner about the LittleBigPlanet beta. Enter details again, confirm image digit validation & then you get the code to download via the PlayStation Network.

As a bitter late-comer to the key “giveaway” who has missed their key (because I spent the weekend playing games instead of trawling the internet) I just want to tell the folks in a similar position (because everyone else who has a key and is playing away happily) what a scum-fishing low-life ign and fileplanet are by trying to flog their subscriptions off the back of the promise of extra non-public keys.
If all Sony want to do is punt me shoddy overpriced mullet-fan services by using sackbwoy as a lure then I’m actually old enough to suddenly not give a toss about their dangerously over-hyped game. (see “bitter” above)
Screw you sony, the sacklash begins here!
Comment by SoliidSnaake — Oct 6, 2008 @ 11:14 am
All I can say is I am happy I spent 10 minutes (which is all it took, maybe I got lucky) signing up and getting my free key.
This game is truly epic, everything I hoped it would be and that is A LOT.
The beta has some flaws (some tutorials won’t let me out even when I finish them and the online gets laggy with 4 people at once) but it IS just a beta.
Overall, I would say Sony really have pulled off the unthinkable and made a game that meets the hype.
Comment by TheShirts — Oct 6, 2008 @ 11:26 am
@ SoliidSnaake: Now, now. Calm down. I got a beta key from IGN for free - they advertise all kinds of subscription services, but you can just choose the free one and get the key. Or you could. Sorry. And anyway, IGN are nothing to do with Sony.
LBP is, as evryone says, indescribably awesome. And can be laggy even with two players online in big levels. I’m expecting that to improve once they dedicate some more servers at release time.
Huge respect to those authors who have built amazing levels and contraptions - it takes a great deal of time and imagination but wow - free game content for life!
Awesome. Not long to wait now!
Comment by nemo — Oct 6, 2008 @ 11:36 am
Even after the generosity of folk on here and trawling the waves of netspace - i’ve yet to hit gold with the LBP beta….its fate i tell you!!!
Comment by JohnSketch — Oct 6, 2008 @ 12:49 pm
Iv had 3 keys so far - I dont think I need anymore lol
Comment by elephant_stone — Oct 6, 2008 @ 1:17 pm
@SolidSnake - I totally agree with you - it’s not right that IGN / Fileplanet are trying to sell subscriptions to people like you and me that are looking for keys. They keys were given to them by Sony anyway, it’s not like they had to pay for them! I’m surprised three speech hasn’t received codes from Sony to give away to readers. Anyway, I accept the fact that I’ll probably not be participating in the LBP beta despite my best efforts to get a key. Shame, as I would have done a decent amount of testing for them, as opposed to just accumulating keys as some kind of status symbol or flogging it / them on ebay! Oh well, wipeout will keep me busy ’til the LBP release anyhow.
Comment by reakt — Oct 6, 2008 @ 2:04 pm
I didnt get one either, I’m not paying a subscription for a key that was given away free by Sony. Reakt is right the keys should have been made available through Three Speech or on the network. I’ll probably still get this game altho I’ll rent it first with no demo to try out. Bit rubbish really.
Comment by Terry — Oct 6, 2008 @ 3:03 pm
If you didn’t get a key it’s unlucky, nothing more. Stop being so bitter, it’s only 3 weeks to release anyway.
Comment by TheShirts — Oct 6, 2008 @ 3:08 pm
That’s easy for you to say - you have a key!
Comment by reakt — Oct 6, 2008 @ 3:46 pm
why are loads of people going on about have to pay for a subscription? i just hit the home page, followed the lbp link and signed in. viola! free code for me.
i guess if you’re stupid enough to be fooled into taking out a subscription you shouldn’t be let in the beta anyway
*runs off to create more things*

Sony explains Sackboy toy shortages News News by Rob Purchese
Yesterday
Sony has explained to Eurogamer that there has been a slight production hiccup with the Sackboy toys, meaning they won’t be shipped in time to be sent with pre-ordered copies of LittleBigPlanet.
Instead, retailers will offer t-shirts to early adopters of the game.
But reports of copyright problems are untrue; the toys will still arrive, either at or just after the game’s launch on 24th October…

@tone - I think that IGN gave 10,000 codes to IGN members (one of those being yourself) and kept 10,000 for fileplanet subscribers.
Comment by reakt — Oct 7, 2008 @ 12:44 pm
This whole beta key distribution has been nothing short of a joke.
Very badly handled indeed and going by SCEE standards that is quite an indicment.
Comment by Big Gareth — Oct 7, 2008 @ 4:54 pm
I meant indictment.
Comment by Big Gareth — Oct 7, 2008 @ 4:56 pm
@ reakt - aaaah, that would explain it, yepp i was an IGN member before the giveaway.
Comment by mobiletone (enjoying his beta) — Oct 7, 2008 @ 6:22 pm
I wasn’t an IGN member, nor a FilePlanet member previously, but following the steps I mentioned above [@34] resulting in confirmation on the day, and also an e-mail notification today containing the Product Voucher Code for the Beta Trial.
PS.
When does Europe get a decent incentive to pre-order “LittleBigPlanet” except the Play.com offer for the “Exclusive Nariko Character”?
The US customers seem to be getting a much better (set of) deal(s)…
