Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, ABBA and Universal Music Announce Collaboration on SingStar®
SingStar® ABBA Available For This Christmas, Exclusively on PlayStation®
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe today announced a collaboration with ABBA to bring the band’s best loved tracks to SingStar for both PlayStation®2 and PLAYSTATION®3. Owners of either system will now be able to sing along with some of the most iconic pop tracks of all time including ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’, ‘Waterloo’ and ‘Dancing Queen’.
SingStar ABBA is being developed in full collaboration with ABBA and Universal Music Group in Sweden, which manages the rights to the ABBA brand. The terms of the agreement include a window of exclusivity for disc-based PlayStation titles until December 2009.
ABBA’s recordings have sold an estimated 370 million units worldwide. Their 1992 album, “Gold,” is one of the most popular albums of all time, with sales of 26 million copies.
The SingStar agreement comes as the music of ABBA enjoys a renewed surge of popularity worldwide, sparked by the huge success of the film, “Mamma Mia!” Global sales of the soundtrack album, released by Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company, are now approaching 3 million.
“We are thrilled to be collaborating with ABBA to bring their tracks to SingStar this Christmas,” said David Reeves, President, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “The popularity of this iconic band continues year after year, and we know SingStar fans will be delighted to add this selection of classics tracks to their SingStar collection.”
Lucian Grainge, Chairman/CEO of Universal Music Group International, commented: “ABBA have joined that elite club of musicians and artists whose popularity only grows with time, as new generations enjoy some of the most memorable music ever made. SingStar ABBA will have the world singing along again.”
SingStar ABBA is the perfect soundtrack to any party, guaranteed to get pop lovers of all ages on their feet when it is released this winter in PAL territories and the US.

I remember the good ol’ days, when people were too embarrased to admit to actually liking ABBA. Wonder how many people are going to “come out of the closet”, and own up to having a favourite - and more importantly, to planning to buy this.
I might as well start… If I don’t buy this, my wife will kill me! And yes, I do like ABBA, though I couldn’t name a favourite song. Their songs always made good background music when I was programming (a little like elevator music)!

Thank you!
Anything other than “Cheggers’ Party Quiz” to disturb this year’s seasonal sleep-off-a-big-meal-together family gathering will be most welcome.
I’m surprised you missed the obvious title for this blog entry though…

Well by then the patch for PS3 SingStar will be out.
So there is an actual incentive here to buy PS2 games again. Nice work.

I do hope that my girlfriend doesn’t get wind of this news!
@TonyNibbles - went to my sister’s house a while back and she was playing SingStar - we were watching the user-uploaded videos and we all agreed that the funniest one was some ridiculously disguised nutcase murdering Jamelia’s “Superstar”. Imagine my shock when I saw your name against it! Hahah!

Please just release these on the Singstore. Please, I don’t want to have to disc swap when I’m pissed. That will truly test the limits of the scratch-resistant coating on the BD. Just put them on the store!

SingStar patch enables PS3 disc-swapping (but not PS2 yet)
Posted Sep 17th 2008 9:30PM by Andrew Yoon
A patch went out for SingStar a few hours ago which allows users of the popular music game to swap discs to access the content from other SingStar titles. However, this patch will only enable PS3 game discs to be swapped — not PS2 games. (We’re assuming that PS2 functionality will come at a later point.) For Americans that doesn’t mean much, as SingStar Volume 2 won’t be available until next month.
We tested the new functionality with an early preview version of SingStar Vol. 2 and it works just as you’d expect. When you’re in the song carousel, hit SELECT and you’ll be able to insert a new disc. Placing SingStar in the drive brings back ye old song list. Placing a PS2 disc in the drive will simply result in an error message.
We’re eagerly awaiting the eventual patch will allow PS2 games to be used in the PS3 SingStar games. That’s exactly how we’d like to enjoy games like the PS2-exclusive SingStar Country.

Note the much better cover art for the US Blu-ray “Vol. 2″ title too.
