Comment by Neil — Sep 12, 2008 @ 12:24 pm
‘Scorn’ by name & nature, I see.
An undisclosed “technical issue” meant this week’s European Update was postponed until today.
We (Europe) should be seeing a playable demo for “Bioshock” on 2 October 2008.
From what I have been reading, this is going to be worth waiting for (too).

Why has Siren been re-issued?, will log in and take a look, see what the PlayTv demo is too…
Comment by Mr. Monkey — Sep 12, 2008 @ 12:36 pm
The “PlayTV™ Demo (Playable)” is 1,339Mb, that’s what that is.
Maybe “Siren:…” has been re-issued to promote the pending Blu-ray release for Europe.
PS. In case you missed it in the earlier Blog comments, “Ratchet & Clank (Future): Quest for Booty” is not being issued on Blu-ray in the UK… in Europe (including Ireland), yes, in the UK… nope.

Bioshock is great, a really atmospheric Rpg/Shooter hybrid… I already own it on 360, but would recommend it to any PS3 owner to give it a go…
I might even rent it, just to see the extras that are in the PS3 version…

Bioshock….it was goood but it wasnt “great”, maybe it was just me but it felt like it was all over too soon and the ending left me a bit bewildered - after killing “no spoilers” it ends…..kind of an anticlimax of a battle to be honest.

@JSketch
Yeah I agree the ending sequence was a bit jarring & the RPG elements could/should of been fleshed out a bit more… (to match System Shock 2)
As for length, I tend to explore most nooks and crannies, so that was not really an issue with me
But the overall “feel” of the game is something special, and makes it stand head and shoulders above Generic shooter #3058
Comment by Mr. Monkey — Sep 12, 2008 @ 1:49 pm
Bioshock is incredible, but yeah it did seem to just end (kind of like Half Life 2). Are the PS3 owners getting all the Rock Band DLC currently available today? Obviously it’s been out in the US for quite a while now, and when the 360 version got released, they made all existing DLC available, plus European bonus tracks (including some awful French rap-metal, haha). Is PS3 getting a similar deal, or are HMX going to release it in a few large chunks?
Comment by BaseballFury — Sep 12, 2008 @ 1:57 pm
PlayTV demo - I’m intrigued!
Comment by reakt — Sep 12, 2008 @ 1:59 pm
@6/@7 [Mr. Monkey]:
I believe the extras in the PS3 variant of “Bioshock” are a “super-tricky” difficulty setting, & downloadable Challenge Rooms.
The PS3 version will have, of course, Trophy Support… and a 5Gb/10 minute mandatory installation process (so that counts me out until the end of September when my current Beta requirements expire).
And this is the reason I was looking for “Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty” on Blu-ray (as well as buying the Asian import of “Siren: New Translation”) too.
Have tried eBay for promo discs since the announcement was made, but nothing as yet.
Let’s hope we don’t end up bidding against each other!

why are some sites *looks at Nofi* making a big deal over
the fact the 360 outsold the ps3, in truth it outsold it
for one week in august after Sony announced the new 80gb
was coming out in a few weeks for cheaper..
so the consumer, being a bit clever thought they would wait.
every week for the last 10 months the ps3 has kicked the 360
in terms of global sales, why so quick to bring Sony down?
lets all stop the hating and look to 2009 as being the year of the playstation.
*stiffles smirking*
seriously, why ALL these games coming out in the next couple
of months, way to many good titles, and not enough money.
looks like it’s going to be a Sony christmas again this year.

I actually ordered the standard 360 LE
(not boxed edition with figure) from Amazon, but read the reviews before I opened it…
Send it back, got a refund, bunged it on my rental queue. Amazon sent me a email few days later, turns out some of the games they sent out were faulty, didn’t have the making of DVD packed in the box…
So they sent me the DVD in a nice cardboard sleeve, you can have it if you want…

Think the playTV demo is just a dry-run of the menu system, helps you get used to it, mines @ 30% now so can’t really go into much detail, but heres a review of PlayTV by CVG to help you pass some time @ work

Is there any confirmation of that within the video (you have seen so far)?

@SinsToJudge - PlayTV demo allows you to try out the snazzy user interface. If you select Live TV - there is of course a simulated live stream, and you can switch between virtual channels. There’s also a library of pre-recorded content that you can browse through and watch. Finally there’s a full EPG (guide) of pretend programs that you can browse through and search. The interface is very slick and easy to use. The EPG is a lot better than the one on my Bravia TV (because it actually gives a synopsis for each program whilst flicking through the guide whereas the TV does not).

Seriously, this is good news. Over the last few (OK, many) months I’ve gone from not wanting to hear any more about this title to becoming vaguely interested in how the graphics have advanced & game-play has developed from the earlier iterations in the series.
I’m guessing that in order to fully appreciate the mind-blowing, excessive synchronous neuronal activity presented to me, I really need to upgrade to a HD-TV (and get with this millennium).

The PlayTV demo is basically the whole UI, but with half a dozen little video clips as your “library” that are also played end-to-end to emulate “live TV”.
And it is… DREADFUL.
I don’t mean playback quality, which will be what it will be, I mean the UI.
The UI is so dreadful I covered too sides of A4 with damning criticism which I’ll post tonight, but the worst part is not that it’s so bad (which it is) but that it’s so bad but from Sony (who I believe have made the occasional VCR and TV before).
There’s absolutely no excuse, and Sony Cambridge should be exceedingly embarrassed. It truly is woeful.
And I’ve got the bloody thing on pre-order already.
Pretty sure I’ll be cancelling it.
