@13 [me!]:

EA gives away £20k FREE petrol at Last Stop Ltd, 73, Stapleton Hall Rd, London, N4 3QF

"The entire forecourt of Last Stop Ltd near Finsbury Park, North London will be completely transformed into that of a military style bunker, with jeeps, oil barrels, sandbag walls, and fully costumed actors on hand to pump the petrol for the customers."

@13
you're right, all this site is for is scee pr.
all they care about is making scee look good, better hope they're bloody good at their jobs because it'd take a miracle to make scee look good right now.
still no soul calibur dlc even though it was available in europe day one on 360.
and now the uk made game motorstorm 2 wont be available in the uk for at least a month after the yanks get it.
i hope every single person who works on this travesty of a site is ashamed of themselves.
but of course they wont be because they're just pathetic pr hacks.

Not a great update either side of the water, at least there is a demo (not interested myself) to mess about with.

The Qore package is one of the things you should be glad SCEE don't do. I got the annual sub through the US store out of curiousity and its fairly pants. Some promotional making of videos where you learn how deep and expansive they've made the story(tm) and a skinny lass batting her eyelids at some devs. Oh, and it has adverts you can't skip. That's what your money buys. So beware of that should PSN cards ever show up or they bring it here.

This months will be worth the cash for the Motorstorm demo though? Well no. I don't mind paying for exclusive betas (your usually getting to play the online component of a future game now) but paying for a demo annoys me.

A demo is a promotional tool to get you to try the game, hopefully so you'll buy it.

So your paying money for an advert really and it annoys me that the industry on all platforms is doing this. What annoys me more though is that we the customers are only too eager to hand the cash over. Seriously, is playing 1 level of the future game 30 days ahead of everyone else that important to you? Yeah, I'm excited about Pacific Rift too but if I had not already paid that money then I would not be rushing to buy Qore now for the "priviledge".

This is something we used to do with magazines, but thats an outdated concept, we relied on magazine demos when there was no online delivery available for them. Now we live in a different time and if we expect these to be provided free then its because Sony said they would be and we just should not be paying for an interactive advert!

(Unrelated, but FYI anyway)

From The Times Online...
[ timesonline.typepad.com/technology/2008/09/free-petrol-fro.html ]
---
September 04, 2008
Free petrol from Electronic Arts. We're not sure why either

Do you have a car? Want a free tank of petrol? Well, Electronic Arts are happy to oblige.

OK, so as publicity stunts go, this one doesn’t make that much sense.

Here’s the skinny. EA are releasing a new game, “Mercenaries 2: World in Flames.” To get you to notice this fact, they’re going to “hijack” a “small, independently owned petrol station in North London near Finsbury Park” (as mercenaries are liable to do, geddit?).

For tomorrow only [i.e. TODAY - Friday 5 September 2008], each lucky customer will have their vehicle tank filled up to the value of £40, with either petrol or diesel. You've just got to find the place first. So if you happen to be in the area, have an eye out.
