LittleBigPlanet™ release date and downloadable content confirmed
21st and 22nd October debut for Sackboy
London, 19th September 2008; Sony Computer Entertainment and Media Molecule are delighted to announce that exclusive PLAYSTATION®3 title LittleBigPlanet™ has gone gold!
The confirmed global release schedule:
October 21st North America & Latin America
October 22nd Europe, Australia & New Zealand
October 24th UK & Ireland
(The Japanese release date is currently targeting the week commencing 27th October)
However, this is only the beginning. We won’t be taking it easy just because we have started to manufacture the game! Media Molecule and SCE have a long-term commitment towards expanding the world of LittleBigPlanet and working hard to make sure that our fans get amazing new content and features via PLAYSTATION®Network.
To start with, there will be a free Spaceman costume for Sackboy, perfect for preparing to launch! There will also be a rare “Week One” Sackboy t-shirt to prove that you were there at the start. Both items will be available for a limited time only.
Of course, it’s not just about what your Sackboy will be wearing this season, it’s what he can do that counts. LittleBigPlanet delivers over 50 levels to play out of the box either on your own or in up to 4-player multiplayer. You also get the most intuitive and powerful content creation tools ever seen in a console game, enabling you to make whatever you want. Then, thanks to the ability to share your creations or download others via PLAYSTATION®Network, the world of LittleBigPlanet will keep on growing forever as gamers make their own games: there will be new experiences to play every time you go online!
So what more can we possibly add?
Well, that’s up to you! We know that you will come up with ideas that will surprise even us, so let us know what would make your LittleBigPlanet a better place. To get you started we are already hard at work on some cool ideas for the way gamers can interact, including the ability to create levels together online in a multiplayer jamming mode!
But there isn’t long to wait before you can get your hands on the game, and then you can tell us what you would like to see us work on next!
LittleBigPlanet: Get ready for gaming to change forever.

I’ve already pre-ordered this game. Can’t wait for it to come out. Will there be a demo for this game available?

That’s right. This September, most likely near the 1st week, LittleBigPlanet will definitely have the beta launch ready for fans eagerly awaiting the wondrous dreaming spectacle of the infinitely large world that makes it up.
Alex Evans, Co-Founder, Media Molecule: We’re ready for it, and this game just has to get out October. Mark (Healey) is having a boy soon and this bad boy has to be done before then.
WhatIfGaming: So, no delay…nothing? Solid for October 2008 on Blu-ray disc only?
AE: Yes. There will be no delay and it will be ready then.
WhatIfGaming: So, the beta will take place September?
AE: You got it. Absolutely.
WhatIfGaming: So, is it for underground members only or will there be a site for selection or something?
AE: It will be a public beta, but limited at the same time. We will disclose that info when we’re ready.
We would like to thank Alex Evans for taking the time to speak with us about LittleBigPlanet.

Yup, that’s the one, Mr M.
I was wondering if anybody else had spotted the existence of the box for the (US) DVD-ROM version.
You win a first class ticket to the largest marketing campaign Sony has been involved with since the launch of the PS3.
I’m going to be calling myself “Sickboy” before the year is out

Yeah, that sucks. I know it’s only a couple of days, but why is it that we in the UK get everything last… even the stuff that’s developed here?
Comment by Paranoimia — Sep 19, 2008 @ 5:56 pm
The only thing I can think of, is that games traditionally tend to come out the beginning of the week/midweek over in the states…
While over here its tradtionally the weekend friday/sat
Either that or SCEE are useless gits, who dont care about the fanbase…
Take your pick…
Comment by Mr. Monkey — Sep 19, 2008 @ 6:01 pm
So looking forward to this, but again UK and Ireland get it last, I think the UK & Ireland gamers should stop buying Sony Products until we get a fairer deal, im sick and tired of us getting everything last. maybe someone in Sony one day will think of the Gamers here. also the PSN Network why is it the US gets everything before us SONY We buy your products too shame we are not all treated the same. maybe its time to take a leaf out of Microsoft when they released Halo 2

Stop complaining. Jeez
Unless its been a special launch, games have always hit the US on a Tuesday, and us on a Friday.
Personally, we’ve got a date, and I’m happy!

I played it today.
I hope the Gold version has some fixes the version they’re demoing in Manchester doesn’t.
It’s great, don’t get me wrong, but they’re are some camera glitches during two-player creation, and the frame rate in the pod once you select a level is dreadful. Fingers crossed for the Gold.

mr monkey, it’s called the Large Hadron Collider. In the article you linked to they state that they’re not changing the name.
and michael, if you don’t count america, europe, australia and new zealand, we get it first!

@Cn
Er, the link I put up has nothing to do with the name of the “Large” hadron collider… It was about some people sending CERN a Half-Life strategy guide, toy head crab, and Crowbar with a note saying “get this to Gordon Freeman, he’ll know what to do”
(which I find very amusing)
If you google “Hadron Collider + Name” you will see it is nicknamed Halo…

What, can’t believe we’re getting this game after the USA and the rest of Europe. This is rediculous, another raw deal for us in little old blighty even though this game is developed by UK developers.

got this from amazon today:-
Unfortunately, the release date for the item(s) listed below was changed by the supplier, and we
need to provide you with a new estimated delivery date based on the new release date:
“Little Big Planet (PS3)” [Video Game]
Estimated arrival date: 31/10/08 - 04/11/08
We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes.
so, what’s going on with LBP?
Comment by mobiletone — Sep 22, 2008 @ 5:34 pm
The date has changed ‘tone… it is now a week earlier!
21 October 2008 in Latin & North America, 22 October 2008 in Australia, New Zealand & Europe, & then 24 October 2008 in the UK & Ireland.
Sounds like Amazon’s listing system cannot cope with release dates coming forward.
