Re: User-created content in Beta levels being carried forward into the full commercial version

LittleBigPlanet beta levels will be transferred to final game
by Alexander Sliwinski
Oct 9th 2008 2:57PM

People's opinions in polls be darned, Media Molecule co-founder Alex Evans has apparently confirmed to 1UP that the user-created levels from the LittleBigPlanet beta will be transferred to the final game. Evans tells the site that they'll continue running the poll on the Official PlayStation Forums to gauge people's reactions to the news, but it appears this is now a done deal.

The LBP beta ends this Sunday, the game will be out beginning the week of October 21st.

		<description>Robothamster:

Regarding our discussion of the possibility of the levels created in the Beta version of "LittleBigPlanet" being available in the commercial release, see point 5 below...

---
If you receive a code, this paragraph becomes relevant to you:

1. Public Beta Ends October 11th, 2008
2. You must use a consumer PLAYSTATION 3 system that is connected to the internet.
3. You must have a PLAYSTATION Network Account.
4. If you have previously redeemed a LBP voucher code, you must delete any old LBP data (along with save data and game data) and download this version (go to Download History and redownload the new code).
5. This version does not require a DNS redirect and levels created here will be available for consumers at launch of the full title.
6. Please refrain from creating anything inappropriate, as we do have moderation in place and it may result in your account being suspended or banned.

		<description>You're very welcome.

PS. Take this information as speculation/rumour until officially confirmed, but...

"Sony Plans To Turn Closed LBP Beta Into Open Demo"

---
Everyone is going absolutely nuts over the LittleBigPlanet beta, as multiple gaming sites all over the Internet are giving away thousands of access codes. But you may not have to get lucky if you wish to play the game before its October 21 release date...

According to reliable inside information delivered by a reader, it seems Sony plans to open up the beta testing during the final week to give everyone a shot at it. Essentially, they produce the closed beta to generate hype and interest, and then open it up to the public in the form of a playable demo a week before the game launches. The tipster in question posted the following in the Blu-Ray{dot}com forums-

"If you don't get in, don't worry. They are supposed to be opening up the public beta for the final week. Last I heard they were still planning on doing so, this closed beta is just there to generate a bit (a lot) of hype for the game before it releases. Basically they are talking about turning the limited time closed beta into a demo for the week before launch. It is easier to do this than to release a demo."

This info evidently comes straight from SCEE, and if that's true, there's no denying its validity. The concept makes perfect sense to us, too, so we're going to say we're about 95% certain this rumor will be proven correct very soon. For now, we have to say its unconfirmed, but we're definitely leaning towards "truth" rather than bogus. Thanks to our loyal reader for letting us in on the details; we agreed to keep this quiet for a while to keep the beta hype high, but now that hype is un-killable. So we figure it's safe to tell ya about this now.

<description>FP, yeah I believe 11th of October was to be the end date, but it seems odd they are STILL handing out code even now.

As you say, it would be nice to save the user created stuff made in the beta but personally I'm not too bothered, I see the levels &#38; objects I've created as 'training' even though I must have put in 12+ hours of creating &#38; 8+ hours of playing so far! :)</description>

<description>Excellent work with the content creation in the current Beta version, Robothamster.

No, I'm not sure if the levels are going to be carried forward. It would make sense if they were (otherwise lots of people [including you?] may well be miffed with the amount of hours they have spent to date).

However, as the version we are currently using has been highlighted on the Media Molecule blog as being an "old" Beta version then some in-game objects may have been removed already.

I can see benefits to starting over a-fresh from the first day of release, and also for maintaining the beta-created content.

Hopefully Media Molecule will announce what is going to be taken forward into the commercial release nearer to the end of the Beta trial.

Which reminds me... is the end of the trial going to be 11 October 2008?

I think I recall seeing that online somewhere… although the actual site escapes my befuddled mind at present.

Has anybody heard when the beta is going to end?
