While scouring through the blogosphere this morning (as you do), we came across this month old blog called Thumbbook. Nothing more than a personal blog, the author discusses how a PSP given to her son as a present resulted in an addiction of her own, and then motivated her to post about her favourite RPG games for Sony’s handheld. The library of PSP RPG games certainly has exploded recently, leading to huge sales spikes in the RPG-loving Japanese market after the release of big hitters such as Phantasy Star Portable, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core and of course Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G.
As always, we’re looking for your valuble opinions on the PSP’s lineup… what are your favourite RPGs on the platform?
I’m totally addicted to Crisis Core, the most I’ve ever been to any game on the platform. It’s a bit button-mashy at times, but the synergy between the side.missions, loot and maxing out materia stats gets me playing obsessively.
Apart from that, no other PSP RPG had me interested enough for me to even bother to finish it. They tend to be too much grind with too little reward.

Above:
“…how a PSP given to *his* son as a present”
In the “discusses” link:
“1. God of War: Chains of Olympus
This game definitely tops my list! My husband, son, and I first played it on our PS2 and we loved it…. My husband, Ronald…”
I think the author is female.

PS. I’d like to say “Manhunt 2″, but I’m not supposed to download it via BitTorrent as you cannot buy it in the UK… no wait, David Reeves says I can download it.
OK… “Manhunt 2″ then

I’m quite partial to D&D Tactics on the PSP… it’s kept me busy for a while now. I loved God of War, however I wouldn’t class it as an RPG per se. I’m hoping that they release Monster Hunter in EU as I think that looks the dogs danglies! Is Crisis Core worth getting? I’ve not tried it….

Crisis Core. Simple as that.

If you include tactical RPGs, PSP still has to top FFTactics : War of the lions for me.
Otherwise, yes, Crisis Core is nice. I’d like some more old school PSOne RPGs to be released on PSN though.

Of course this article has to be written about the PSP and not the PS3.
When ti comes to JRPG styled games (not tactical, not action) for the PS3 what do we have? Enchanted Arms? …that’s it.

Favourite as a game, or favourite as a PSP game? Disgaea is head and shoulders above everything else, but I see that as a PS2 game first and foremost. Next up on the PSP would probably be Jeanne D’Arc. Mostly I’ve been disappointed by the RPG options available on Sony’s systems this generation.

Well I have to say untold legends warriors code. It is a nice hack n slash and highly custimizable. Also there is a small online community and you can fight people online with infenstucture.
