Buzz junior party is not worth 3,99 (or 5.99€)
for a demo game (it only contains 5 minigames, not the whole enchalada )!!!!!!!
btw where are the PSN cards, still nothing heard of that (also not on leipzig)
where is the videostore as promissed on the E3!!!!

Very nice update (again). It’s been a good summer for PSN, and it’s nice to see that recent first-party PSN games have had same-day releases in all three territories.

@10: Sony have already said not to expect the PSN Video store in EU/outside of NA until at least 2010 or so. Don’t hold your breathe :P.
Good update! Still debating whether Last Guy looks good enough.
Comment by Nathan — Aug 28, 2008 @ 7:14 pm
To the folks getting the warhawk jetpacks, are they actually good? I initially liked the idea but can you get out of a warhawk midflight to escape and such? Do they not completely change the way that the game is played? & @ 13, I agree I want this Soul Cal stuff, I’ve been waiting for it seemingly ages, whats more annoying is I think theres only like, 8-12 new parts so it’s not even worth the wait
Comment by IvanFoul — Aug 28, 2008 @ 7:35 pm

Ugh, another ‘meh’ update for the PSN. The Last Guy would be better if you could actually see your person on the screen, and Warhawk is crap. Ratchet and Clank is nice…but too short for $15.
Why aren’t we seeing anything on PSN like what the 360 has? They’ve had four weeks of excellent online releases, and the only thing that’s come over to PSN is Bionic Commando.
Seriously–bring something worth picking up. Where’s Wipeout HD? Why aren’t there more original PSX titles to pick up (Ape Escape or Tomba, anyone?) If there were some worthwhile PSX titles, then I’d be more forgiving of the PSN deficiencies…

Any word on whether we’ll see the Warhawk booster combo thats just out in the US on our store any time soon? I’ve yet to pick up any of the expansions, but i’ve got a renewed interest in warhawk that might just lead to me buying a combo pack if it was offered.
Comment by OtakuPunk — Aug 28, 2008 @ 11:35 pm
@21 - I might be being stupid, but there was a combo pack of Omega Dawn and Broken Mirror on the story for a fiver recently wasn’t there? Please don’t tell me I dreamed it…
We’ve had worse updates, but then we’ve had better. I’m just getting used to the fact that every week I come on here and see people complaining.

@22
Same here - I like to read the update and then try to guess what they’re going to complain about. Seems suddenly everyone’s desperate for Life With PlayStation. Do you know any Wii owners that use the News and Weather Channels? Nor do I, and so personally I can wait.
I actually think that things have been improved recently - most full games have been released at the same time and at a price that seems fair. We’re sometimes a week late with demos, which is a shame (like Last Guy) but (like Last Guy) people were able to play it before the game was released.
@14
I thought 2009 for the video store too.
Comment by TheFamousKevin — Aug 29, 2008 @ 6:36 am
Warhawk…more warhawk…..quite simply the greatest game i’ve ever played.
Comment by Mike — Aug 29, 2008 @ 6:45 am
A lot of your guys seem to have slipped into a pattern ofcomlaining about the updates, regardless of what they are!
This week is pretty good with Last Guy, a demo of it to try out, the Warhawk pack (and Warhawk is one of the best games on PS3 and the regular updates are what this generation should be about) and several other good things.
At least try to see the positives
Comment by TheShirts — Aug 29, 2008 @ 7:32 am
…it’s *positively* a disappointing update if you have read the semi-poor reviews of “The Last Guy” & you don’t have, nor like, “Warhawk”.
On the other hand, in the US, most notably is a demo for “Soul Calibur IV” (that Japan had earlier this week also), and another heap of videos…

Seven Days to Go
Posted by David “Point Man” Brothers
Seven days til the Public Beta kicks off.
What’s your plan? Taking off work? Did you quit your job? Call up a babysitter? Prepare a fort in the front room near your PS3? Let the family know that you’re gonna be in-country for a while and to just leave dinner nearby?
I’ve got some “down to the wire” beta info for you. I checked with the team and the beta is going to be available for download on Monday, September 1st. It’s going to be a couple hundred megs under two gigs, so download times may vary according to your connection.
After that, it’s on, right? M4s and Noob Tubes and Claymores galore. I expect everyone to know Crossroads inside and out by the end of Wednesday, and to have code names setup for every nook and cranny by Thursday.

We like to speak our minds here & we're not afraid of Sony. What's the worst they can do (apart from start to charge for access to the PlayStation Network)?
Oh... yeah... I best not give them any 'good' ideas.

@ fanpages: On your remark on the last guy.. I’ve only read the ign review which was pretty good (9.0). I just checked on metacritic and could only find one other review gameplanet (not that mainstream, gave it 6.5).
Not picking on you, but just wondering which other reviews you saw.
Also. what’s not to like about cheesy music, arcade action ,zombies and goats in commercials
?
(I know, very personal opinion, and I guess that the last guy is a Hate it or Love it title, and I am from the second group).
back to the store update: it would have been nice to know a bit more on Buzz Jungle Party.. Is it a PS3 only title, a PS2 port, a mini game .. what ?
I couldn’t find a trailer in the store for it at all.
(just something on the web, which seems to say it’s 5 mini games, which can be fun anyway).
It’s just the price of a decent pint, but being Friday, I’d like to know what to choose to have a few minutes of fun

I’m really glad fallen star is here, but for some reason I got more excited about the re-release of the graffiti theme with the trophy and system shutdown icons updated. It’s my favourite theme and it felt unfinished when the ? appeared. But I still don’t think I should be so elated over a theme. Surely?
Comment by Ashley — Aug 29, 2008 @ 8:42 am
Not a bad update really, a full game WITH a demo to try first, a demo and the Warhawk content for Warhawk-ers (which I’m not).
Are we gonna get the Soul Calibur 4 DLC before I’m bored of playing it?

Soul Calibur 4 isn’t made by Sony. I think Nofi’s point was that for the last few months every PSN release made by Sony has had same-day release in EU and US.

re: everyone moaning about Threespeech visitors
Regular readers will know I’m a frequent TS contributor on the state of play with SCEE. I’m not entirely complimentary about them but I do maintain credit where its due (so I have bought R&C:QFB from the EU store for example where I could easily buy it from the US store).
I’ve seen the comments on other pages as well. If you want to sit and take the view that everything Sony does is excellent and anyone who says anything different is a lesser person than you then……
well…
…cool.
Thats your view. We don’t agree but then we don’t have to. World would be a bit rubbish if we always did.
Why is it particularly here? Well if it is then I imagine this is the only place (outside the forums) that is even “semi official”. The makers of this site are paid by SCEE to release news and updates and TS promised more than a few times to take feedback to SCEE AND get answers.
Clearly this hasn’t worked out how we hoped but what’s the alternative? Clog up the US blog? Clog up the forums that SCEE also ignores? Go to other sites where clearly dissent is not welcome?
So we remain here. For now.
For the record i notice other sites that claim to be nicer about Sony do have their own grumbles as well. SixthAxis (who complain about us) even ran their own project to try and break through to SCEE and a lot of the complaints were exactly the same as here. I don’t fancy their chances of success but I will welcome any progress they make where TS is so clearly not working. Either way we’re not that different. We just shout louder!

It has also not been that well received in various comments here at Three Speech.

There is no mention of “SOCOM: Confrontation” being just for Qore subscribers at the hyperlink I provided, but the date mentioned for the availability (Monday 1 September 2008) is a public holiday (Labor Day) in the US, so I wouldn’t expect anything on the European ‘Store then (but, hey, who knows for sure?).
If I hear anything further I’ll post again.
Traffic on the PlayStation Network on Monday may well make trying to download it from the US ‘Store, or any online gaming, a little slow anyway.

“Soul Calibur 4 isn’t made by Sony….”
Yes, I know. I have the GAME Exclusive Collector’s Tin edition (pre-ordered, & pre-delivered, before the official release date), but don’t really see the need for downloadable content for the title (even though I can appreciate that others are disappointed that the European ‘Store has not made the content available to date).
The release of “Tekken 6″ on the PS3 may well have suffered because of “Soul Calibur IV” being slightly delayed too, and also the fact that Namco (Bandai) have now upgraded the arcade version (to “Bloodline Rebellion”) ready to be shown in Tokyo on 20 September 2008, and into the arcades this December [ kobayan.jp ]
“I think Nofi’s point was that for the last few months every PSN release made by Sony has had same-day release in EU and US…”
Have they?
I remember waiting for the demos for “Facebreaker” & “1942: Joint Strike” after the US ‘Store had them available, and the demo for “Monster Madness: Grave Danger” was delayed as the European Blu-ray commercial release date was put back.
You (& Nofi, and every other member of TheSixthAxis Forums… of which I am a subscriber too) may have a point that Three Speech has become a place for people to bring some cheese to the whine party, but Three Speech do not (overly) moderate the comments posted so that the viewpoints are a true reflection of people’s opinion.
I did exchange communication with Nofi about writing for TheSixthAxis but I decided not to bother once it was suggested that my articles would be edited if there was anything controversial within them.
TheSixthAxis is good at what it does, and long may it continue. The coverage of the Leipzig Games Convention I thought was particular good, and I made reference to this (twice) here at Three Speech.
But please don’t think everybody here is only here to moan.

Facebreaker, 1942: Joint Strike, and Monster Madness: Grave Danger are also not made by Sony. Read what I wrote again.
We’re specifically referring to first party games, the last five of which have had same-day release in US and EU. If you compare it to the situation earlier this year, when we waited months for other first party games like Echochrome, Everyday Shooter and Pain, you’ll see that things have undeniably improved!

Short SOCOM Public Beta Delay
Posted by Seth Luisi
Hi folks,
Well, I’ve got some good and not so good news. The good news is that we are still on track to delivering a kick-ass experience come October. The bad news is that because we are working so hard to ensure the final product is fantastic, we’ve decided to push back the Public Beta date just a few days in order to bump up the experience even more. So, the new launch date for the Public Beta is now Friday, September 5th (QORE members will start the following Friday, September 12).
The other good news is that we are not cutting down the length of the Public Beta one bit. It will still run for a full month - from 9/5 to 10/5 - so you and your clanmates can still practice as long as you want and then be ready to go for the full game later in October.
Myself, my team and Slant Six are burning the midnight oil to ensure this game is the best it can possibly be for you guys. We completely understand it’s hard to wait when you haven’t had a chance to play it yet but, rest assured, the wait will be worth it. If you haven’t done it already, you can pre-order the game from GameStop® in the US to get into the Public Beta (EB Games™ for our brethren to the North). Make sure to bring along 2 extra friends once you register and get the email promo code from us; that code will let them in too. You’re not going to get another Public Beta out there that will give you and your squad-mates so much access.
Best,
Seth

“Facebreaker, 1942: Joint Strike, and Monster Madness: Grave Danger are also not made by Sony. Read what I wrote again.”
Did you read the bit were I said they were? Nope, neither did I. Sony publish the releases (to the PlayStation Network via the ‘Store), external developers are responsible for the other elements (with the exception of “Echochrome”). Queasy Games developed “Everyday Shooter”, and “Pain” is by Idol Minds.
“We’re specifically referring to first party games,…”
Well, you may have been, but I didn’t see Nofi or myself mention first party titles, previously, but OK, let’s stick to one topic [as you have obviously had more dialog[ue] with Nofi than I have]…
“… we waited months for other first party games like Echochrome, Everyday Shooter and Pain, you’ll see that things have undeniably improved!”
Yes, that is true. For example, “Snakeball” had three different release dates, initially in Japan, then the US, and then the UK.
But, apart from “Siren: New Translation” (/”:Blood Curse”), “Piyotama”, and “WipEout HD”, what else have Sony (Europe, or Japan) developed themselves solely for the PlayStation Network (Store)?
I cannot think of anything. But I have been wrong before, so perhaps you can offer your thoughts.
Thanks.
@50 [Jane]:
“…found a site remarkably lacking in whiners and trolls.”
People complain because they feel disappointed about expectations previously set.
If other sites do not wish to relay such complaints, and present a biased viewpoint, the discussions appear one-sided & unrealistic from anybody who is not completely new to technology.
I complemented Nofi’s site earlier in this thread for what it does, so if you like reading how well the PS3 console is being received, then please check in with TheSixthAxis* more often.

I prefer to read extreme opinions on either end of the spectrum, & a wider cross-section of comments as well, so I participate in many forums.

@fanpages
Echochrome, Pain and Everday Shooter were all published by Sony, even though they were developed by third-parties (this arrangement is sometimes called second-party but that’s not a formal definition).
On the other hand 1942 is published by Capcom, Monster Madness is published by Southpeak, Facebreaker is published by EA. These are third-party developed, third-party published games/demos. That they are distributed via the PS Store is largely irrelevant.
The publishers are the ones responsible for getting the code through the SCEE QA process, and if it fails that process for some reason it is not the fault of SCEE. One example of a game that was heavily delayed in EU because it repeatedly failed SCEE QA is Super Puzzle Fighter.
A separate issue is that the SCEE QA process simply takes longer than the SCEA equivalent, probably because it is more onerous due to SCEE serving many countries, and so if a third-party publisher submits a game to both SCEE and SCEA at the same time, even if it flies through QA, it is still likely to appear on the US store earlier than the EU one. An example of this happening is the MGS4 database, which was delayed here by a week even though the versions on the US and EU stores were identical. This is something SCEE still need to fix, I hope they will.
Where SCEE has been successful though is to remove delays for games that are being published by Sony themselves. Every first party published game that has been distributed via PSN since the beginning of July has had same-day release in US and EU. Compare this to the situation earlier this year with other PSN games published by Sony and there has been a definite improvement. This is trend that some people have noticed.

Hi again,
Thank you for the lesson.
By the extent, and depth, of your response, I am presuming that you have, like myself, a background in software development &/or testing.
(Do you have connections with Microsoft, Nintendo, or Sony? A few years ago I was offered a testing position at Microsoft in London & declined as the only advantage seemed to be that their gaming products could be purchased with a 90-95% discount. I have remained in a freelance capacity since.)
None of your text I was disagreeing with other than the fact that the discussion scope has now extended beyond what was originally raised but that’s OK, as long as we don’t get away from the point. (Perhaps if Nofi returns to clarify what he meant then we need not second-guess any further)
If one Sony organisation cannot adopt & apply their own standards for the Quality Assurance process then there is no hope for anybody else so, yes, I would expect SCEE to be able to meet the exacting definitions so that their own-developed &/or own-published titles do pass the process requirements.
I am still unclear whether you can quote any PlayStation Network ‘first party’ titles other than you have already though. It is hard to notice a trend within a sample size of three!
Whether the trend is for the better, or not, though, the “general” public (i.e. the typical consumers) still notice when titles appear in Japan &/or the US, weeks, if not months, ahead of Europe (or at differing times across Europe). They do not care who has developed, published, project managed, or tested a certain title. They care if a playable demo is available before a commercial release, not weeks afterwards, or indeed never made available to their local region. They care that quoted availability dates are not kept to in Europe, but dates do seem to be adhered to in the US.
To the public Sony are responsible. Unless communication is provided to clarify the situation then Sony will always be blamed for such occurrences.
Have you previously raised similar concerns for discussion at The-Sixth-Axis? It would be interesting to take an unguided response poll to ascertain what ‘normal’ consumers understand to be the input a Sony agency has for a PlayStation Network title to be made available.
(And I hope Three Speech are still reading gaining suitable questions to pose to their next Sony-affiliated representative to be approached for an interview)
BFN,
fp.
