What a great way to start the day - we’ve got the new and confirmed PAL packshot for Resistance 2, and it’s looking good! Sadly it won’t have the lovely Three Speech watermark on it in reality, but we’re sure you’ll get over that. At the moment Three Speech particularly likes the reflected neon Diner sign - very spooky…
We’ve also heard that the PEGI rating for this title still hasn’t been confirmed, so keep your eyes peeled for more info on that. Let us know what you think of the cover art in the thread…

Looks Cool. Will it be the same as the american one?
Comment by Patrick — Aug 27, 2008 @ 11:28 am
Looking good. hopefully it’ll deliver like the first one did. Was probably the launch game I enjoyed most, motorstorm was too shallow and hard.
Comment by Terry — Aug 27, 2008 @ 11:31 am
I found MotorStorm to have just the right level of difficulty. You have to be good to get through the later stages. So far I’ve found Resistance to be a little too easy, but I’m still in the early stages so far.
I like that box art, even if some people say it looks like the Fable 2 art. But then I don’t think they have the copyright for mirror effects on box art.
Comment by Savage( PSN : CartBlanche ) — Aug 27, 2008 @ 11:49 am
Nice work. Love the missing letters on the DInEr in the mirrored image.

Game of the year right there….
Comment by Nathaniel — Aug 27, 2008 @ 11:56 am
I won’t be buying this because I thought the original was average at best. It’s certainly not going to beat Battlefield: Bad Company or Call of Duty 4, yet it seems it only gets attention because it’s PS3 exclusive.

(Then every other web site in the [alternate reality] Universe at various times yesterday)
So, is this cover art the ’standard’ release for the PAL regions, but the Collector’s Edition cover art for the US?
And what is different in the Collector’s Edition? I’ve not seen anybody taking pre-orders on this version in the UK. Perhaps we are only getting the ’standard’ release.

Comment by JohnSketch — Aug 27, 2008 @ 12:19 pm
Looking good, is the boxart for any other regions confirmed for comparison?
I like the reflection of before the invasion and after. tells you exactly what the game is about really - Nathan Hale, Chimera, 1950’s USA, Invasion!
I also like how they’ve changed the London Skyline in the Resistance: Fall of Man logo to the San Fransico skyline, but I must say I’m a tad disappointed they couldn’t come up with a name a bit more creative than it’s working title of Resistance 2!
I had always expected it to have a subtitle like “FALL OF XXX” or “RISE OF XXX” etc. to tie in with the first game’s naming convention. If it wasn’t already a game in it’s own right (and another alt-history game to boot) “Resistance 2: Fall of Liberty” would have been a good choice. Or maybe “Resistance 2: Rise of Chimera”!
Then the 3rd could have continued the theme with “Resistance 3: Fall of Chimera” or “Resistance 3: Rise of Man” etc. Or maybe something with a Russian theme, as I’m guessing that is where the 3rd game will be set…
Comment by Apnomis — Aug 27, 2008 @ 12:20 pm
The game was known as “Resistance: Rise of Man” for some time (almost as soon as the first title in the franchise had been release), but it then reverted (back) to “Resistance 2″ towards the end of last year.
Also of note is the fact the title has an ‘18+’ PEGI rating this time.
“Resistance: Fall of Man” had a ‘15′ rating.

I’m disgusted that SCEE has decided NOT to release a Collector’s Edition of R2 in Europe. Why they must treat us as second class citizens when European sales of PS3 and it’s software are so excellent is beyond me! Or maybe that’s exactly the reason…
I will be importing the US versions of PS3 games from now on.

Ubisoft: Stronger Currency Makes Europe ‘More Important’ Than US, EndWar Will Change Industry
by Chris Faylor Aug 27, 2008 11:51am CST
Stronger European currency has caused French publisher Ubisoft to view Europe’s market as more important than that of the US, CEO Yves Guillemot has revealed.
“Turnover in Europe is actually more important than the US now, and by more than 5%,” Guillemot told GamesIndustry.biz, owing the shift to the strength of the pound and euro. “It’s become a very strong market for us.”
Echoing Nintendo’s mission statement with its Wii and DS hardware, the Ubisoft executive expressed his belief that games like like Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Ubisoft Shanghai’s upcoming voice-controlled RTS effort EndWar (PS3, 360) are increasing the popularity and appeal of games by making them more accessible.
“A game like EndWar, for example, which you can control by voice–it’s totally changing the industry because it gives you the opportunity to command what’s happening, and to have a quick answer to the orders you give,” he explained. “I think this market has no limit in the growth it can have if we can make sure that the people that are coming in are staying.”

“Guitar Hero World Tour to Feature Partnerships with Prominent Music Instrument Manufacturers
The game is set to deliver most authentic rock and roll experience yet.”
—
US, August 27, 2008…
…When the house lights go down this fall, a new generation of guitarists, drummers and fearless frontmen will come together and rock with Guitar Hero World Tour. The latest installment in the #1 best-selling video game franchise of 2007, Guitar Hero World Tour transforms music gaming by expanding Guitar Hero’s signature guitar gameplay into a cooperative band experience that combines the most advanced wireless controllers with new revolutionary online* and offline gameplay modes including Band Career and 8-player “Battle of the Bands,” which allows two full bands to compete head-to-head online for the first time ever. The game features a slick newly redesigned guitar controller, drum kit controller and a microphone, as well as an innovative Music Studio music creator that lets players compose, record, edit and share their own rock ‘n’ roll anthems. Music creators will also be able to share their recordings with their friends online through GHTunesSM where other gamers can download and play an endless supply of unique creations.

However, when you read to the bottom of the page the asterisk footnote on “online” refers to…
“*Online gameplay is only available for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and Wii and may require an additional subscription.”
Cue the back(s)lash.

The lack of “Linger in Shadows” may disappoint a few people, but the price of the “Warhawk” additional content will please some others).
(”Warhawk” also received an update to version 1.50 yesterday, including a Tutorial mode, and Trophy Support [amongst other extras], btw).
Next week should be the “PAIN Amusement Park” update, but not a lot else.
“Facebreaker”, “Golden Axe”, “Mercenaries 2: World In Flames”, “TNS Impact!”, “Monster Madness: Grave Danger”, & “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed” are all released commercially next month so those that haven’t already been made available as Demos *may* show up on the ‘Store in the next few weeks…

Resistance 2 gets US date
Tuesday 2-Sep-2008 5:32 PM
Mike Jackson
Special Edition version announced, UK date still just November
Resistance 2 will be released in US on November 4, Sony has confirmed, along with the announcement of a Special Edition version.
The special edition version, priced at $79.99 (around £45), will include an art box, and action figure and a bonus DVD crammed with footage. A more detailed list can be seen below.
The flagship PS3 title will clash head-on with Microsoft’s big shooter, Gears of War 2, which goes on sale three days later on November 7.
The current official word on a UK release is November, although we expect Sony to nail down an exact day any time now.
Special Edition bonus content:
* Created by DC Unlimited, an exclusive Chimeran Hybrid action figure with Bullseye weapon.
* A double-sided hard-cover Resistance 2 art book covering war-torn America from two unique perspectives.
* Exclusive in-game HVAP Wraith multiplayer weapon skin
* Copy of Resistance 2 with special edition cover artwork selected by the fans
* Plus a bonus DVD of exclusive Resistance 2 additional contents including:
- A preview into the upcoming Resistance novel, “Resistance: The Gathering Storm” by well-known science fiction author William Dietz.
- “America Forever Lost”, Behind The Scenes video of Resistance 2 with Insomniac Games
- “Shattered History” Resistance chronology video — provides a visual guideline from the earliest days of the Chimera invasion to the current storyline.
Digital copy of Issue #0 of the Resistance comic book series published by Wildstorm.

“Issue #0″…!?!
Announcing a commercial release date whilst the Private Beta Tests are currently running (until 25 September 2008) [so I believe] shows how confident Insomniac must be that they are not going to let this date slip.
