Can you reverse the Blood Curse?
All 12 terrifying episodes of Siren Blood Curse™ scream their way in to stores this Autumn on Blu-ray Disc™
August 1st, London: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe announced that in Autumn 2008, the most terrifying and violent of the Siren games to date will be released on Blu-ray Disc™ (BD) for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™). Siren Blood Curse™ is the blood-curdling follow-up to Forbidden Siren™ and Forbidden Siren 2™ and has so far only been available to purchase as a download on PLAYSTATION®Network. This Autumn, all 12 gut-wrenching episodes of the Japanese Horror Game with exclusive bonus content will be available to purchase on high definition BD.
The chilling events surrounding Siren Blood Curse take place in the Japanese village of Hanuda, a dark, eerie place, frozen in the 1970s and surrounded by a red sea. A TV crew from America arrive to research and film an exposé on the so-called “Vanished Village” where human sacrifices are rumoured to have taken place. You, the visitors, discover an ancient curse has been cast upon the town and it is your quest to save the remaining inhabitants. You are being hunted down by the vicious Shibito (living dead) and other terrifying monsters, and if attacked you’ll be at risk of deforming in to one of these hideously deformed beasts yourself.
Throughout the game you’ll play each of the visitors to the village. The game’s unique Sight-Jack System enables you to switch seamlessly between the visions of the hunted (yourself) and the hunter. Meanwhile blood, guts and gore are super-enhanced by amazing graphic effects, an advanced physics engine and shockingly realistic facial animations.
The introduction of western characters to Siren Blood Curse brings a new dimension to a series inspired by films of the Japanese survival horror genre. Siren Blood Curse blurs the line between game and film, in a truly terrifying gaming experience.Get ready for a purely terrifying gaming experience when Siren Blood Curse™ screams its way in to stores this Autumn 2008 in PAL territories.

Maybe sales of the downloadable episodic content have not been as high as anticipated in Europe. Can’t think (of 699 reasons) why not, though.
If only this information had been available last week, as I anticipate all those gamers who would have been interested in a European edition have already bought the Asian &/or Japanese version (like me!).
I also hope pre-orders of the European Blu-ray version include the Soundtrack CD.
Either way, the prices of the ‘Store content should go down when the Blu-ray disc is released… shouldn’t they?
Is “Hail to the Chimp” being released in Europe? Another title I have bought via import this week.
Still, never mind, “Soul Calibur IV” is out today. See you online later…

Great! But for now, I’d be happy with a demo on the UK store…
Comment by Paranoimia — Aug 1, 2008 @ 5:07 pm
Maybe it would sell better in Europe if they release the sodding demo in Europe. *sigh*
Comment by Tuatara — Aug 1, 2008 @ 5:33 pm
do we have any pricing on the Europian Blu-Ray release?
good news though!

Ah nice! I was just going to import the Asian Version. SIREN is a fantastic game, but 9gig was much to much to ask (most) gamers to sacrifice for the entire game (even though it’s completely worth it imo).
I hope SCEE advertises the game, SIREN:BC is a fantastic game and deserves a good advertising run

Im still downloading chapter 1 so yet to play it. If I’d known it was going to be on disc I would have probably waited, still nay mind!
Comment by Terry — Aug 2, 2008 @ 10:51 am
Too late imported mine, but will encourage others to get this to boost sales and thus cement the chance of a sequel.
Hopefully a remake of 2. It would be very wise, as it never released in the states.
YES something SCEE did right!
(The blind guy sections were far too hard, the sight jacking his dog great concept, very hard tho. With the new sight jacking system implemented would make it a lot easier/accessible)

@Fanpages even the demo for hail to the chimp is US only on LIVE…
So it looks like it “might” not arrive to PALand
The publisher Gamec*ck are quite new that may be the reason…

Also slightly off topic (but still horror themed)
Has anybody seen the new Silent Hill it looks PANTS…
Konami need to do some real arse kissing and get the team back who did 3, can’t remember what happened but there was a falling out…
Also they should remake SH1, it worked for Resi
(the remake on cube was amazing)
and it has worked for on Siren
(gave up on the original far too hard)

@16
I was being stupid and didnt realise there was a staircase in the corner going down, think I need to sort the brightness on the TV out lol. Got to admit I’ve not played a game as spooky as this since the first Silent Hill, when I hasten to add I was quite a bit younger. The hospital level will bring brown pants to many, play this game!

@terry
It is supposed to be that dark, keep looking at the map! Some of the outdoor sections are better lit…
Project Zero/Fatal Frame series
that will really creep you out.
Think silent hill meets the ring
(you battle ghosts by taking photos its really great)
Im not finding siren scary as such, but the stealth sections are nerve jangling…
After finishing the hospital bit my heart was racing so bad I had to play eden to chill me out…

Why does PixelJunk Eden not support the Custom Soundtrack feature, when this was the actual game used to demonstrate the function in Eric Lempel’s (PS Blog) FW v2.4 videos?

I prefer downloads over media, so I downloaded all 12 episodes which is just lovely. I recently upgraded my 60GB to a 320GB so there’s plenty of space. But if you’re low on disk space, you can delete any episodes of Siren that you’ve finished, and redownload them as you please, which I think is a great feature.
Comment by Zta — Aug 3, 2008 @ 5:28 pm
What would be good is if Sony gave money back to consumers if they decide to surrender their usage of a particular downloaded game. Say in the case of SIREN, all the episodes are stored in your download list, what if you were to get £5 off a new purchase if these items were removed from the list. It might go some way to making downloads more viable as I know you obviously cannot sell them on like you could a physical copy. Plus Sony then get people coming back to buy new things. I’d happily lose GT5 Prologue - its boring.

@Zta
The only thing that worries me is backwards compatibility with the next generation of machines…
Will all the PSN, XBL and Wiiware downloads work?
Guess we’ll have to wait & see, food for thought…
Comment by Mr. Monkey — Aug 4, 2008 @ 7:23 pm
@Terry the whole model of digital distribution is set up as means to combat piracy (mainly for PC) & is a sneaky way to help curb the grey market that bricks & mortars have with pre-owned games.
(Didn’t start out like that but thats how Publishers now use it)
Virtual trade in’s would be a excellent idea, but I feel the outcry by bricks & mortars over the further cutting of their P&L margins would prevent it for ever happening

Amazon had the Blu-ray version at £14.98 recently, & Play.com had it for £17.99.
The prices are now £21.62 & £29.99, respectively.
!?!
Time to source an Asian import of “Siren: New Translation” from eBay, methinks.
