funny how he talks about full hd, but a lot of games on ps3 are 720 only much to the irk of 1080i only users…
http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=1543693
(fallout from sonys choice of no hardware scaling)
also wonder how he feels about the lack of demos for all his games on PAL stores?
Comment by Mr. Monkey — Jul 29, 2008 @ 11:30 am
On a more postive note…
didn’t like the demo of Eden from the US store, but its grown on me now…
Will buy if the price is right when it hits the PAL store…

to clarify my post 1
1080i only users who play 720 only games have them downscale to 480p or 576p
Comment by Mr. Monkey — Jul 29, 2008 @ 11:44 am
I quite enjoyed the demo, but I can see the game getting quite frustrating if played for any length of time in one sitting! I hope it’s not expensive or it’ll be a non-purchase me for me too!
Comment by Monkey Rimmer — Jul 29, 2008 @ 1:21 pm
Mr. Monkey you’ll find that recently games are coming with a 1080i option (uncharted had it I think and burnout recently got patched), and the entire pixeljunk series is in 1080p.
Comment by Geoff — Jul 29, 2008 @ 2:12 pm
@Geoff
Uncharted PAL doesn’t support 1080i in fact I imported the US version because of this, not because I am unlucky enough to own a television that will not support 720p, but rather 720p looks pants on 50″ Bravia (loads of jaggies) and 1080i looks far better on my set (my set doesn’t do 1080p)
Yes burnout got patched due to pressure from the 1080i only crowd…
(it should have supported it out of the box)
But some games support it and look awful Unreal III and the demo of Hail to the Chimp make 1080i look very blury due to bad software scaling
Both look great at 1080i on 360 due to the imbuilt scaler it has in the hardware.
Its just that Sony was the “true HD” console and never fully delivered, and its a real shame everytime I play a 720 game on PS3 I have to turn my sharpness right down, while the eggbox scales any game beautifully.
but I would be pissed off if I bought a ps3 and it downscaled all the time, like the poor people in that link…
Sorry for rambling slightly, just the buzz word “trueHD” set me off…
Comment by Mr. Monkey — Jul 29, 2008 @ 2:51 pm
not downscale all the time, I meant
most of the time…
& yes most PSN games do support 1080i and look great,
could never work out why lemmings never did tho…
Comment by Mr. Monkey — Jul 29, 2008 @ 3:04 pm
Mr Monkey, stop whining and get a proper HD set. 1080i TV’s are NOT TrueHD. 720p TV’s are NOT TrueHD. If your set cannot do 1080p then you don’t have an TrueHD tele. Spamming these boards and crying about your lack of a good tele is really pathetic. Again 1080i is not HD.

@Parker
“720p TV’s are NOT TrueHD”
my point exactly, the crux of Sonys PS3 launch campaign we are TrueHD
(in fact even the term TrueHD is spawned by sony)
So the PS3 is “also” not trueHD as a large number of games ONLY support 720p
Also you should be aware that if a game supports 1080P the TrueHD standard it ALSO supports 1080i as its the same resolution only displayed differently…
So my “whining” as you put it is just pointing out Sonys shortcomings with not having a upscaler built into the ps3 something the 360 has had since day 1…
Also my 50 inch bravia set is damn good television thank you very much a 1080p version that size is £3000 which im going to get next year anyway.
I only mentioned it as to give a reason why I bothered to import uncharted…
Like I said im sorry for rambling, just that term trueHD is like a killswitch for me, a reminder of Sonys BS

Can I join in by saying mine is bigger than yours…
Comment by Terry — Jul 30, 2008 @ 9:49 am
but mines a different colour
Comment by Mr. Monkey — Jul 30, 2008 @ 5:19 pm
TrueHD is a marketing term.
Anything that is 720p and above is HD. Most cant see the difference between 720 and 1080 from a useable distance.
720p is better than 1080i if the tv doesnt support 1080p.
