16 wallpapers for BC? 16?
Might I suggest that you take all the people who’ve made several hundred crappy wallpapers this year and get them working on, oh, I don’t know, game stuff?
Comment by Jools — Jul 31, 2008 @ 12:16 pm
As “Soul Calibur IV” is out tomorrow (or in my letterbox now, courtesy of a pre-order from GAME.co.uk), I doubt I’ll make it to the ‘Store today or for the remainder of this week.
European ‘Store “Facebreaker” Demo next week (put back one week to 7 August 2008), although the US ‘Store may get it today.
The demo will include three playable characters (Ice, Sparrow, & Steve), two arenas (”Booty Caves”, & “Trailer Park”) and will allow matches of one 90-second round, but with the option to have a rematch.
You will be able to play against a console-controlled opponent or a second human player. There will be no online support in the demo.
Also included in the demo is a practice mode & the ability to use EA’s Game Face technology; you can upload your own photo so you can map your own face onto one of the three existing characters.
In the final game you’ll be able to create a completely original custom character.
I will probably buy this on both PS3 (my console of choice) & Wii platforms (just to use the Wiimote & Nunchuk controllers!).
BFN,
fp.
PS. “Linger In Shadows” has passed video game certification in Australia… as a ‘game’… contrary to the thought that it is just a ‘tech demo’. The UK PlayStation site has a dedicated page for it now too…

Didn’t even get past the:
PixelJunk Eden, £4.99
to know this is a good update. I really liked the demo from the US and was worried it would be another £6.99 (which would probably stop me buying it). Actually going to leave work early now.
You get a pummelling on here, SCEE, but this time the price is right, the timing is right and we got a demo to try out too. Mopre of the same, please.
Comment by TheFamousKevin — Jul 31, 2008 @ 12:23 pm
Is it possible to buy content from the US store, I know to register with the US you have to have a fake address (mine is a hotel in Las Vegas) but can I use my bank cards o nthe site or do the addresses have to match or something.
Im aware i’d be giving money away thatd otherwise go to SCEE but to be honest I’ve had enough of them.
Comment by Terry — Jul 31, 2008 @ 12:27 pm
Game out same day as US
Check
Game has price inline with the US
Check
A Demo

Stone the crows, its everything I ever wanted from a PAL store update
Good work SCEE

& finally for those that missed it…
Siren Asian import BD,
5 gig mandatory install.
The manual and back of the box is in Chinese, but there is a fold-out sheet with the controls in English.
If you turn captions off, it will still show Japanese dialogue with subs
Only downside is you can’t seem to choose episodes until you finish them
£27 ebay (& if your lucky you might even find the Limited Edition soundtrack included for that price)
Comment by Mr. Monkey — Jul 31, 2008 @ 12:37 pm
@Terry
You can get a virtual card from companies like Entropay.
It’s been working for me fine and I get to be all smug at denying SCEE cash!
Comment by shrui — Jul 31, 2008 @ 12:37 pm
glad to see a demo of eden up there cause i cant quite make my mind up about it!
Comment by manley — Jul 31, 2008 @ 12:39 pm
@8 [Mr. Monkey]: “5.1Mb” mandatory install, but when you query the actual data on the drive afterwards it is *only* 5,040Mb. There’s another saving with not downloading all the individual episodic content.
PS. The “Siren: New Translation” soundtrack is (also) available via BitTorrent, so I believe.

also glad to see threespeech get in there early with the update news!
although this might have something to do with the fact there has been no other news here for a while.
still cant believe threespeech thinks dante could trump kratos, cause most would agree that kratos would have dante for breakfast and still have room for musli!!!

What was that I was saying about PSP titles?
One choice comment about retailers (in East London) removing PSP titles from their shelves because they cannot sell them:
“I blame Sony for this. They have been pushing the PS3 like crazy and aren’t working on any AAA PSP titles. Most PSP games are either remakes of PSOne games or stripped down PS2 games. Who wants to buy those anyway? Since I got a new firmware I haven’t bought a single PSP game, but actually there hasn’t been a single PSP game I’m interested enough in to buy anyway. ”
And, to be honest, who wants a GPS device &/or a Camera (with a lower resolution than a mobile telephone handset) stuck on top of their PSP console?

1000 meg is not 1 gig, learned that doing a-level computing many moons ago
(can’t remember the exact amount now, and it got something to do with hex amounts not adding up)
hence the 5040 Meg
but I digress…
but bit-torrenting the soundtrack is a bid of a cop out if you are a lover of a real disc
(which is the whole reason why you would bother importing rather than downloading)
To me it was well worth the extra £7 over downloading…
also have you managed to dig what the new firmware does??

It is only fair that I applaud todays update after battering SCEE week-in-week-out for their usual crappy ‘not-as-good-as-the-US’ updates.
Well done SCEE, a fairly-priced same-day release on a game I’ve been looking forward too.. more of the same please!

(May show as @15 at present as my comment #14 is still stuck in the Moderation queue).
Erm, yes, I know. I have a little experience in “IT” (like, erm, 27 years).
My point way that on the screen prior to install is the requirement for 5100Mb. (No mention of Gigabytes at all).
Not that it matters, but 60Mb have gone missing… imagine if every install ‘lost’ some zero[e]s & ones… no wonder a full backup of 60Gb to a USB 2.0 external hard drive takes 1.5 hours longer than it should!

@15, Mr. Monkey
If anyone cares, the number is 1024. 1 K is 1024 bytes, 1 M is 1024 K, 1 G is 1024 M. So 1 G is actually 1,073,741,824 bytes.
Of course hard drive makers like to screw their customers so they use base-1000. Which is why the size on the packet is never what you see after installing the drive in the computer (or PS3).
Oh, 1024 is 2^10.

I really hope echochrome sales where dissapointing due to the 6.99 price tag and made them rethink their pricing strategy.
Obviously would prefer the 3.49 Monsters price point, but cant have everything

once again another very poor update on PSN it erks me how the european gamer is treated with such distane by Sony, in the US over the past weeks demos such as facebreaker, madden 09, wall-e, and more ,we seem to get the crap no one else wants, the man in the van stuff does anyone want this s**t, wallpapers, it becoming apparent to me the worse thing I ever did was trade my 360 for a glorified dvd player, sony will regret it decision to overlook the european market in the end.
Comment by thfc123uk — Jul 31, 2008 @ 1:59 pm
imagine the scene thursday mornings PSN office, head boss what have we got for the weekly update in europe this week, programmers all sit blankly staring into space, any ideas , silence, how about wallpapers, yes lots of , crap demo no one wants yes get a couple, need to pad it out it out still , go it the men in camper van crap, lets do it, they want know the difference, another great mornings work sony!!!!!!!
Comment by thfc123uk — Jul 31, 2008 @ 2:07 pm
Would highly recommend people try the Eden demo first. Like with Echochrome I loved the look of the game from the trailers but i found the gameplay in the demo not that great.
I’m not saying the game is crap, definitely try it! Just wasn’t for me.

I fail to see how anyone can slag off the ‘man in a camper van’ Movement videos this week. Why you ask? Simple really. I downloaded the first of today’s new ones, and it doesn’t play. Just comes up as ‘corrupted data’.
Good one SCEE. Releasing videos onto the Playstation Store that aren’t Playstation compatable. Someone is obviously very good at their job…

its easy use entropay to create a virtual Creditcard, put some money on it.
and save a lot of money with your purchases
never i’m putting money anymore to the SCEE
Elefunk is 4,99$ (=3 euro) and not 7,99 € as these moneywolves claim from us..
Comment by T3rrortime — Jul 31, 2008 @ 4:05 pm
Wow, I’m actually shocked! If only all EU PSN releases were like Eden!!!
Out same day as the US, seems to be a fair price (assuming it’s not $4.99 in the US, meaning we should have had it for £3.49), and it’s actually released with a demo!!!!
Eden will now be held as the benchmark for all future PSN Store updates!!!

Off topic completely, but did you get the limited edition tin version of Soul Calibur IV from Game?
I only ask because I pre-ordered at game.co.uk weeks ago when I saw the advert for the limited edition version and this morning the standard edition turns up on my doorstep!
I’ve e-mailed their Customer Services to find out what’s going on as I’m a bit annoyed that I didn’t get the version I pre-ordered!
Comment by Apnomis — Jul 31, 2008 @ 4:33 pm
er… wasn’t LIfe with Playstation promised ‘by the end of the month’ at E3…
“”E3 2008: Life with PlayStation to arrive end of July
Life with PlayStation, a service that delivers live news, weather and webcam feeds to gamers on the PS3, will be available at the end of July.”"
you’ve got 6hrs left Sony!!
Comment by mobiletone — Jul 31, 2008 @ 5:10 pm
@35 [Apnomis]:
Coincidentally I found the same… just the standard edition had arrived. Fortunately, GAME Customer Services is open ’til 6pm so I gave them a call & whilst I was talking to them an e-mail arriving saying the same as the representative on the telephone.
There was a problem in the warehouse & none of the GAME Exclusive Cases were despatched. They are going to rectify this by despatching them separately in a day or so.
Sorry for your disappointment… I felt the same.
What I was more worried about was the fact I may have to send my standard edition back & not get to play it at all (as I’d have to keep it sealed). But not so

I’ve just checked and I’ve recieved the same e-mail which is a relief! (would have been nice if they’d slipped a note in the envelope though!)
That’s exactly what I was annoyed about, I came home at lunch thinking I could have a quick go but didn’t want to open it incase I had to send it back! Since I’m going away next week I might not have been able to play it for a while! But at least now I know I can start playing it!!!
Comment by Apnomis — Jul 31, 2008 @ 6:40 pm
I have been sick with the flu for the past 2 weeks, I almost died!
Anyway I get home, boot up my PS3 and what do I find? A decent store update that is resonablly priced :O. I checked to see if I accidently loggd into the US store, but no it was the new zealand store. Good work and please for the love of god dont slack off sony. Keep this up and I might start to forgive you for all the suffering you have caused millions of your loyal fans.

Two questions…
1) Why did the US receive the “Facebreaker” (Playable Demo) today, and Europe didn’t [US 'Store update list below]?
2) Anybody here reading from Argentina? No, I didn’t think so… I just found out that the PS3 console has not had a local release in Argentina at all yet! It is due to be released later this month (August).

Got the Eden demo, loved it, and bought the game.. The big swayer for me is that its got trophy support, yay! Finally I can do something with trophies.. (Im not a fan of SSHD, which is the only other game I can think of that supports them).. Shame we didnt get the Indy and Facebreaker demos as well. Still need that US PSN id then..
Is there going to be any backward trophy support? Like I have beaten the hell out of MGS4 and GTA4, etc so it would be nice to see a patch that would read my savegames and allocate trophies from that, rather than do it all over again.. Is that possible?
