What of “Ca$h Gun Chao$”… it was downloadable in the US on 17 November 2006.
I think that deserves an award for the longest available title not to reach the European ‘Store!

With Wimbledon over [so "Top Spin 4" may be out before next year] & “echochrome” being a *few* weeks late too, you cannot complain about the timing of the “Go!Explore™ PSP Map Packs” (OK, maybe next Thursday may have been better, but maybe next week is going to be a bumper week of updates anyway, with the “E3 Media and Business Summit” taking place. Maybe even two updates as we saw with PlayStation Day?).
“Go!Explore™” (”PSP-290″ GPS receiver unit & UMD software) is available in the UK next Friday (18 July 2008).
£99.99 from Play.com & Game.net.

Well I will be getting Echochrome on the PS3, which it seems I have been waiting for forever. So I’m glad about that, but for anyone not interested in it, the update is pretty pants!
Echochrome is the saving grace, but seriously there needs to be a bit more variety each week.
Comment by Ashley — Jul 10, 2008 @ 12:46 pm
Go!Explore has been out in the UK for *ages* at Dixons and Currys.
If anyone would like to know the difference between Echochrome Micro (PSP) and the Echochrome UMD (PSP), according to wikipedia micro has 56 levels and the UMD has 315.
Comment by pat — Jul 10, 2008 @ 12:52 pm
Played the Echochrome demo what seems like months ago. It’s a pretty tedious, sterile experience. And the visuals that looked so crisp and clean on screenshots are pretty disappointing: a dual-layered image or ghosting (or whatever you call it) makes the whole thing look messy like a low-quality upscaled DVD.
Comment by ChrisLoxley — Jul 10, 2008 @ 1:05 pm
For this weeks PSN-update related moan, I’m going to point the finger of complaint at the developers, simply because they’re holding all of the goodies back for E3. Why release a demo on PSN a week before E3 when you could just hold it to coincide with E3 and piggy-back on the E3 hype machine, drumming up twice the attention? Because Sony’s PSN Store’s a very bland affair at the best of times, and it would be nice to have atleast two demos worth getting excited over each week, but alas! We have been let down again.
There’s absolutely nothing of interest for me in this update. So instead of perusing the PSN Store when I get home to my PS3, I’ll just download the Burnout Paradise “Cagney” update, which seems far more exciting.

A recommendation, or a suggestion, unrelated to the topic: Invest the time and coding into placing a blab-box on the main page, ThreeSpeech, so that those of us who want to have a gabble and general banter can do so without having to meander into the nearest blog to do so. It could also serve the purpose of giving us a place to throw questions and conversation towards the ThreeSpeech staff, a la community relations.

Well good that echochrome is out. 3speech, any idea when/if the Last Guy is going to be released on the PAL store? I believe it has been rated by the ESRB for North America. You guys really should be acting as a conduit between us (the readers) and Sony but I see little of this happening. Perhaps you could do a post asking what questions readers have for SCEE or what titles we would like to get information on and follow it up in a week or two.

I’m getting bored of waiting for Resident Evil too, rumours were flying baout years ago and yet there is still no new information.

I can’t comment on the JP as I’ve not yet figured out how to create a Japanese account (due to the fact I can’t read Japanese). It always feels like us EU lot get shafted left right and centre! Higher costs for less quantity / quality! How shite?!

Comment by Monkey Rimmer — Jul 10, 2008 @ 3:17 pm
There seems to be a worrying trend of SCEE beginning to rip off European gamers, they seem to have quietly increased prices despite offering a crap service when it comes to game availability!
It always used to be the case (when the PS3 first launched in the UK) that games that were $9.99 in the States were £4.99 in the UK. Most of the PSN games I own were either £4.99 or £3.49. This to me was a real sweet spot, and being under fiver makes it a throw-a-way impulse purchase.
However lately games (and even the extortionately priced COD4 map pack) have suddenly increased by £2, and suddenly £7 seems a lot nearer to £10, and suddenly it’s not such an impulse purchase - especially as the majority of PSN games don’t allow you to try before you buy.
I thought it was too good to be true that SCEE were bucking the trend of “rip-off Britain”, before long it will be $9.99 on the US PSN and £9.99 on the UK PSN!
For me £4.99 for a mini-game was a great price, £2 extra might not seem like much, but it has a psychological chance that would make me think twice before blindly adding it to my basket.
Maybe it’s just because Ecochrome is too simplistic for it’s own good, games like Tekken and WipeOut HD that feel a bit more like a major release justify being charged at £10-£15, and likewise major dual-retail/PSN releases like Warhawk and GT5:Prologue can justify a £20+ price tag (although GT5 was £5 overpriced IMO). But Echochrome to me seems like a mini-game in the Super Stardust HD/PixelJunk Monsters category etc, and so should be priced as such at £4.99.
If £6.99 suddenly becomes the new £4.99 for all future releases you will see my PSN purchases drop dramatically! Remember if developers think they can get away with charging £7 for a £3 map pack they will!
If you must, release a decent expansion pack for £1.99 a few months later and make up the extra, but at least then it’s optional for people that really like the game and want to extend it’s life.
P.S. LOL at it taking 70 days to convert/approve a black and white line drawn game with minimal text, no voice acting, no violence/action and the simpliest of concepts! What exactly was the excuse this time? Was the thickness of the straight black lines not in line with EU guidelines on pencil drawings?!

I’m not going to moan about the store in general. I’m still liking the fact that we get new stuff every fortnight, which makes a nice step on from the ps2. But this update is rubbish, simple as. The Top Spin demo is great, but I got it from america when Wimbledon fever was high - I’m sure Take two would have rather SCEE’d stuck it on then, not a week after wimbledon finishes. Pretty basic really.
And echochrome interested me, until I saw the price. Nah… Pixeljunk monsters is 3.49, and the expansion 1.99, that’s 5.48 for the best game on there, so everything else is gonna be compared… nothing dwnloaded. See you nxt week
Comment by Tom F — Jul 10, 2008 @ 6:34 pm
what irks me the most is that scee cant be bothered to even put a demo up, we have to buy blind… we never got a demo for pj monsters & not one for echochrome BOTH have demos on the US store & top it off we get pricehike when the game does land

Agree with Apnomis comment 26 in full.
At 4.99 I wouldn’t have really thought twice about buying echo chrome, however, at 6.99 i paused… questioned why the hell is it 7 quid and went off to find some reviews.
Oh, and I still haven’t bought echo chrome, and now the impulse buy moment has gone, I probably never will… shame

We have no idea what Sony’s PSN Store plans are for E3 week, but hopefully there’ll be a huge amount of new content, including the Press Conference. Until then, however, you’ll have to settle for this week’s update. With four demos to choose from, not to mention a barrel full of videos and a smattering of add-ons, that’s not too hard a pill to swallow. Here’s the full release list:
Playable Content
* Siren: Blood Curse demo
* Monster Madness: Grave Danger demo
* Wall*E demo
* Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian demo
Add-on Content
* Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 Gift Pack (free)
* Rock Band DLC (posted after the break)
Videos
* SOCOM: Confrontation “Assault” trailer
* Elefunk trailer
* Siren: Blood Curse story trailer
* Super Stardust HD Add-on trailer
* AST Dew Tour - PlayStation Pro Moments
* AST Dew Tour - Behind the Scenes with Spinner
* AST Dew Tour - Bilko’s Road To Finals
* AST Dew Tour - Burnquist Talks
* Civilization Revolution launch trailer
* Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway “Destructable Cover” video
* Dead Space Developer Diary #1 “Greenlight”
* Quarantine movie trailer
Rock Band DLC
* “Snow (Hey Oh!)” - Red Hot Chilli Peppers
* “Tell Me Baby” - Red Hot Chilli Peppers
* “Closer To The Heart” - Rush
* “Working Man” (Vault Edition) - Rush

Agree with 26.
I am really bad for impulse buys - I just love it on the PSN and I’ve bought games for £3.49 just on the offchance they would be good - some I’ve liked (PixelJunk Monsters, Stardust), some I didn’t (Pain - what’s the point, isn’t it just a tech demo?). £6.99 really doesn’t fall into that category, and for a game such as echochrome I don’t want to spend that much without at least a demo that I enjoyed first.
In fact, the effect recent £6.99 games have had on my games spending makes me wonder if ThreeSpeech could also find out if my wife has been on the phone to SCEE about this.
One last thought - why doesn’t anyone complain about how the US store has preview videos, and ours doesn’t. That annoys me much much more than WipeOut every week.
Comment by TheFamousKevin — Jul 11, 2008 @ 5:25 am
Ok. I heard that the reason the european PSN store took longer was language and conversion delays. So please explain (Kaz Hirai or somebody) why a SCEE developed game appears first on the japanese site?

@ fanpages (30), I’ve just noticed the brilliant update on the US store myself. It really is embarrassing compared to the scraps we’re offered! What great demos, I think I’ll be firing up my US account this weekend…
@ TheFamousKevin (33), I never realised the US PSN had preview videos?! I remember when they first launched the new design store they said something about getting options to “play trailer” or “download demo” etc instead of just “add to basket” but I didn’t know anywhere had that yet?!
SCEE fails again…
Also it’s annoying that no one from SCEE can be bothered taking the time to speak to fans and explain themselves. Calling this blog “semi-official” is just a convenient excuse for SCEE to ignore it! I love the way on the US Blog you “speak” to the people that actually do the job. If there were complaints about something missing from the update on the US blog the “Head of PSN Content” (or whatever their job is called) would literally reply to the comments with the answer (and release date)!
SCEA is just so far ahead of SCEE it’s just not even funny anymore, and the sad thing is most Americans would sooner sit waiting for their 360 to come back from repair than appreciate the effort SCEA put in, whereas in Europe - the continent that probably single handily got the PS3 out of the sh*t - we’re left with a bunch of incompetents locked away behind closed doors that act like they don’t give a damn about customer relations.
I vote to sack all the SCEE PR department and bring over the SCEA team on secondment to bring the EU “community” up to the same standard as the US one…(!)
Comment by Apnomis — Jul 11, 2008 @ 10:05 am
What really urks me is the lack of demos on our store, we are forced to buy blind, no demos for PJ Monsters or Echochrome, and that toy racer but can find them on the US store…
And now we get a 40% price hike and are not even allowed to try the games, before we buy?
I think a phone call to trading standards is needed…

On the UK store go into all games then strategy, no trial for PJM, never has been,
Also Super Puzzle Fighter, PJ Racers, Toy Home (that was the toy racer I was talking about)
Echochrome, and they might even be more, can’t be bothered to check
ALL have demos on US store not on ours…
Seems like Sonys mantra is wait longer, pay more, get less for us pal users…

I know monsters is the business, I only bought it because I tried the US demo, same for Echochrome
thats the point I only bought them because I got a chance to try them…
If I was a PAL “only” user I would never had an option, why are we be denied access to demos??
Also is the only way to access downloaded user content on echochrome is randomly in freeform mode?
Not atelier then portfolio, is this another way SCEE is laughing at us….

Sorry, yes, I have just been back to check, and I downloaded the (60Mb) US Demo of “PixelJunk™ Monsters” on 22 February this year.
In that case, I take your point entirely; the European Store is indeed lacking yet another item.
“PixelJunk™ Racers Demo (Playable Demo)” I downloaded from the US Store on 21 September 2007, “Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Demo” a day later , & “Toy Home™ Demo (Playable Demo)” on 16 November.
“Echochrome” came down from the Japanese Store on 7 March 2008.
I didn’t realise these items were (also) not available in Europe.
…
Does anybody know if these playable demo versions are available in any other region?
BFN,

Dear SCEE
Please take note that users on your “semi-official” blog are currently in the process of realising that they’re being shafted out of demo’s of “purchase-and-download” games. It should be of concern to you, my dear friend SCEE, that no-one can fathom reasoning as to why the other PSN regions are afforded the pleasure of PSN game demo’s, when we, the ever loyal PAL region PSN are shunned.
If you deem it acceptable that the users download the demo’s from other regions (with fake accounts that technically break the end-user agreements), and in your opinion this should continue, then please have the sense to unify all PSN regions under one server, so each region can have access to all of the content without having to log into a different PSN account.
Yours truly

@53 [Zoob]:
“Elefunk” has over 20 levels where you are tasked with building structures with materials (made of rope, wood, and/or metal) across ravines, rivers, fire pits, swamps, and so on, to ‘rescue’ the elephants.
The game modes on offer (initially) are:
“Puzzle” (with a limited amount of materials available),
“Time Attack”, and
“Challenge” (or “Multiplayer Deconstruction” where pieces are removed like Jenga/Kerplunk [ker-trunk? ;)] without causing a structure to fall).
Bonus games are also promised where you can jump canyons with an elephant on a motorbike!?!
I have not heard of a “freeform” build objective, as yes, I am sure you are correct in that this would be very close to the expected game-play of “LittleBigPlanet” & Sony would not have sanctioned a release of a similar nature.
That’s not to say that future updates will not be offered in this respect, though.
Online leaderboards are supported to complement the online & offline gaming, but no trophy support (as yet).
