This medieval hack and slash game promises to be a great PSN game, and the cartoon style and innovative (bizarre) concept are very appealing. Can’t wait to start feeding one of those princesses. We’ve got the official press release and a few more images, click through to check it out…
OVERVIEW
Frantic and fun, Fat Princess pits two hordes of players against each other in comic medieval battle royale. Your goal is to rescue your beloved princess from the enemy dungeon. There’s a catch though: your adversary has been stuffing her with food to fatten her up and it’s going to take most of your army working together to carry her back across the battlefield.
You can switch between five different character classes literally at the drop of a hat: the fearless Warrior, the steadfast Archer, the mystical Mage, the tireless Worker, and the deadly Priest. In order to triumph, players must combine their skills and work together. The name of the game is cooperation, whether it’s helping another player drag a log back to your castle, manning a battering ram to smash through the enemy’s front gate, or building a human pyramid to scramble over the walls.
KEY FEATURES
Casual Single & Multiplayer Online/Offline Action – Cooperate with your team of medieval soldiers (up to 16 players on each side) to overthrow the opponent’s army, plunder their castle and save the princess

I smell another “Calling All Cars” in the scenario that people will play it for the first weak (USA) it will be delayed 5 months for a PAL release then when it finally gets released in PAL no one will play this online.

Yes carl, but that’s the problem with every game “having” to have an online mode. I can’t believe that some games (uncharted/heavenly sword) are marked down in reviews for having no multiplayer! Smaller game releases shouldn’t even _have_ online multiplayer. If there were only a handful of games that had online they would all get a lot more play time. I don’t think that every release should have an online mode, most shouldn’t because it becomes worthless after a few months unless it’s really popular. Offline multiplayer is a different story though

Of course when (if) it reaches the UK, it will have to be politically correct in title, and be renamed to “Gravitationally Challenged person who may, or may not, be of royal descent and/or be the partner, former, or otherwise, of a similar person of the same, or opposite, sex with a similar, or different social status or any age, creed, colour, or religion”.
The localisation to get this from the US to the UK will mean we will not see it after the US has the seen the release of the second title in the series.
Oh, sorry, my mistake, that’s “Rock Band”.
But yes, I hope you’re wrong, carl (t.c.m), as it certainly looks like a title that should sell well, and appeal to a wide audience. No pun intended.

fp.

Needs voice chat. Needs voice chat. Needs voice chat.
Without it, how are we supposed to play as a team? Commands have never really worked well, and it doesn’t allow for social gaming. If I can hop into a game with my clanmates from other games, we are probably going to want to chat about more than just team based objectives.
Comment by Moses — Jul 18, 2008 @ 8:07 pm
Since we all want to be politically correct, I think the game should be renamed to “Big Boned Princess” or “Retains Liquids Princess” or something along those lines. Or you could just call a Fat person FAT!

Ooops didn’t see fanpages’ post, though I think mine was more succinct.

There’s always a chance that Home might be released by the time this is due for release… in that scenario voice chat and clan support should be readily available.
Here’s hoping.
likewise, I hope this game comes out in a timely manner…
surely in this day and age localisation/language packs can be implemented in future patches?

Another superb looking game, @ carl, nothing says you have to buy it when (if) it does reach these shores. I agree that Calling All Cars was below par though. I got it free with my Qore subscription, played it once, and that was it.
Comment by VoodooCharlie — Jul 19, 2008 @ 12:43 pm
Calling all cars was underrated IMHO. i mean, it had potential. for this game to do well, i’m afraid it’d have to be released on the DS, packaged with a pink case and marketed to teeni boppers. it may have to come with a disclaimer. “sony does no endorse the mass consumption of baked goods as a means to solving personal problems.”

@4 (Moses)”Needs voice chat”
Agreed but should read “Needs Selective Voice Chat”
I’m a PAL territory user who lives in a UTC +8 time zone. When my mates on the east cost (UTC +10) have gone to bed, I’m usually connected to French or German servers and I only speak English (that’s not a complaint, just wish I knew the languages…)
UK servers are usually Maximum Lag from here (West Oz).
Or if a U.S. game is joined, just about every second game has a stoner, pre-teen, or spot-face either dribbling crap like how useless everyone else is or is playing some Britney Spears-Hip-Hop-Rap-Death-Metal-Jazz-Funk-Fusion music at distortion-levels (that is a complaint)
So yeah, selective voice chat with mute function, or “yet-to-be-seen-in-a-PS3-game” squad-chat.
Please.

“it will be delayed 5 months for a PAL release then when it finally gets released in PAL no one will play this online.”
And may cost twice as much ?
Sony Computer Entertainment really loves Europe !

FYI:
Some details of upcoming PlayStation Network title, “Flock” (with some images at the link below)…
[ http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/joystiq-e3-hands-on-flock/ ]
—
In a nutshell, Flock is an evolved form of Lemmings: Using your ship and it’s various beams, you guide sheep, chicken, cows and pigs past obstacles and into the Mother Flocker (be careful about slurring that name). The game will also feature co-op and a map editor. Although we weren’t able to see either feature in action, Capcom’s Kraig Kujawa told us their goal is to implement cross-console map sharing.
Part of the fun is failing, as Kujawa seemed to prove by spending most of the session either showing me different ways to kill my flock or doing it himself. There are some benefits to killing, as the flock will leave behind slabs of meat that can be used to distract enemies.
Kujawa provided some insight into the focus testing of the game. The aim of the developers was appeal to as many people as possible, male and female. What came from that is the inclusion of “angels” that flies up off screen after one of your flock members dies (think: Milky from Blur’s “Coffee & TV” music video). Another decision that came from focus testing was the removal of timers; you can take as long as you want to finish a level, although you earn medals depending on how fast you finish.
Best part of the demo? A Rube Goldberg-esque level that ends with one sheep being catapulted into the Mother Flocker. Kujaway told us an improved version will likely be making its way into the final game. Flock is coming this holiday season to Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC.

Sounds like fun!

This game will be a hidden gem. But I will stand by it 100 percent!
Comment by MaestroH — Jul 21, 2008 @ 9:40 pm
Looks very, different, which is great in this age of FPS-overkill!
As mentioned before, I pray its not another Calling All Cars…which is a good at what it does but is short lived and no one is online (checked the other week)…I seem to remember seeing only a small number at EU launch too!
