Already picked up the MGS Database & Commando demo from the US Store last week.
What a waste. Back to gaming on the PC for a while I guess.
Aye, Elefunk and more importantly WipEout HD PLEASE!
Comment by Zoob — Jun 26, 2008 @ 12:11 pm
I guess elephunk will be out on the us store.
Dont think i will bother with the psn this week. got most of it last week
Comment by yxxxx — Jun 26, 2008 @ 12:17 pm
SCEE in waste of space shocker.
Thank God for US & Jap accounts.
Comment by phatb0y — Jun 26, 2008 @ 12:23 pm
Ouch.
Has anyone else had thoughts about closing down the PAL psn? The vast majority of British PS3 users grab content from the US store, because not only does the US store have a better lay-out, but they get better content updates and they get them sooner!
Comment by The-Unknown — Jun 26, 2008 @ 12:24 pm
I think that Microsoft have proved the european localisation issue to be a myth as almost all of their releases are global..
SCEE need a short.sharp.shock as they are just failing to win any confidence with the community, which is a shame :,-(

This is just absolutely pathetic, I’ll just wait until the US store is updated and probably grab some decent content off it.

Comment by Phoenix2912 — Jun 26, 2008 @ 1:09 pm
Sucks to be us again..
Don’t worry though folks next week you get 2 games that have been out in the US and Japan for weeks.
Do SCEE hate their customer base? they have advertised Elefunk on their own website as being released today but its not here and I doubt we will get an apology or even an explanation. It’ll probably go AWOL like any news on Wipeout HD has.
Is this not a semi-official blog? Can’t you get us answers? or does it mean you don’t get the pretty press shots anymore if you ask uncomfortable question?

World of Warcraft Song?
WHUT!?
Word in from Activision this afternoon reveals that a specially created new Guitar Hero III track ‘inspired by’ world-beating MMO World of Warcraft will be released on Xbox Live and the PSN.
Called “I am Murloc”, the new tune for Acti’s best-selling rhythm-action title was apparently first performed at BlizzCon 2005…
we’ll be strumming away to the theme of Halo3 next!
that Wolf of the Battlefield demo better be damn good.

Why bother putting dates on uk.playstation.com if they’re so frequently wrong and not kept up to date? Just leads to disappointment.
Comment by Shin-Ra — Jun 26, 2008 @ 2:02 pm
To all those complaining that you got it on the US stores last week I would carefully read the user agreements you agree to every time you update your playstation.
It states that you may not give false information when signing up to the PSN, and unless you are registered at an address in the US you must be breaking this.
Not only does doing so break the agreement and therefore you have given Sony permission to remove PSN access from you (though this seems very unlikely, as there would be a backlash), but it also begs the question why should Sony cater for contract breakers.
I have explicitly not signed up for a US account for that reason, and you won’t find me complaining about what’s on the PSN (seems fine to me, for a free service).
Comment by John — Jun 26, 2008 @ 2:05 pm
oh it’s not that good.. carry on…
do we not own the best next gen console on the planet?
and yet we have to put up with this nu-retro dross.
are we that starved of content we’ll buy anything now?
i won’t. thank grud i get Bad Company tomorrow.
Comment by mobiletone — Jun 26, 2008 @ 2:13 pm
@ John - quit with the ‘holier than thou’ business, like you’ve never downloaded an mp3 or sent a copyrighted image using your ps3 or used a savegame file from a magazine disc either.
Sony are fully aware that multiple accounts are set from single consoles as it would be so easy to region lock them, they’re just covering themselves in case something you download knackers your system.
if SCEE got their act together WE wouldn’t HAVE to look to other stores to get the latest downloads. M$ can manage worldwide releases on the same day, absolutely NO excuse as to why Sony can’t.

what are you? SCEE police or something?
the update sucks balls end of!
if the whole world recieved the same updates then we wouldn’t complain as much, but time after time we in the EU get the dreggs from the bottom of the barrel.
user agreement my arse, sony knows full well that people are creating fake US accounts, and if it was a problem they would have done something by now!
i consider this case closed now!

The MGS database from other areas is useless without a save file from that area I thought so….
I don’t have an account from another area either (I have too much of a life to bother) but the fact that we are STILL waiting for Echochrome is sickening. We’ll be playing Killzone 2 before it at this rate.
I haven’t bothered to check, but do people moan about LIVE updates like this ? and you have to pay for LIVE. There just seems to be a fug Europe attitude by all of the big players in the gaming and electronics industry in general so I think if people don’t vote with their wallets, nothings going to change, and there is no chance of getting ALL users to do so, as most, including me, aren’t really THAT bothered
Comment by danmagic — Jun 26, 2008 @ 2:54 pm
At least I can get the mgs database.
seriously though, we are the 2nd market of Sony, in front of Japan, by miles, how come we don’t get some good treatment?

Another total waste of time and energy checking the SCEE store….Im getting an entropay account I am so sick of SCEEs incompetence. It is truly pathetic, not that anyone at threespeech or SCEE seem to care less about us customers. The Japanese store got Xenogears today………. This is beyond PATHETIC. It is gross incompetence.

I realise that everyone is doing it, i’m not even saying don’t do it, that’s my personal choie, but to complain by saying “Already picked up the MGS Database & Commando demo from the US Store last week. What a waste.” as someone did above is nonsensical, it would be like saying “What a waste by HMV for stocking that new album, I got it last week from BitTorrent”
Taking an illegal route and then complaining about the legal route hardly seems fair.
Comment by John — Jun 26, 2008 @ 3:29 pm
as an xbox 360 user we got commando 3 weeks ago and access to Streetfigter beta test. Why cant sony have a worldwide release for the psn next week rather than this crap roll out that helps nobody. I’m guessing that wipeout hd will now slip to september/october at the earliest.
Go and play battlefield bad company, its waaay better than commando anyway.
Comment by exprohound — Jun 26, 2008 @ 3:52 pm
Not a great week to be honest but I’ll be having the MGS4 database and might try the Commando demo.
To everybody going nuts (as usual), what exactly were you expecting today? Wipeout HD is the one I want, but I’m not foolish enough to expect Sony to just pop it on the store one day as a surprise. Believe me, when that game is coming out they will let everyone know about it beforehand.
As for Elefunk, Eurogamer never had official confirmation of it arriving today, they just found that date on the SCEE site. Most of us have learned from experience that dates on there are about as reliable as a chocolate teapot
@29
SCEE could not release Xenogears on the EU store even if they wanted to. That decision would be made by Square Enix, so I suggest you vent your spleen in that direction.

No it begs the question why Sony can not have global releases like the competition. It begs the question why in this age of an interconnected world they release downloadable games months apart in different regions, sometimes not at all, in the knowledge that many will be left feeling excluded when they see it instantaneously on the Internet. It begs the question why they release region free games and then region lock DLC. It begs the question why they don’t co-ordinate and communicate more between regional divisions and listen to the consumers more or why there is a ridiculous price disparity in some cases. You call them contract breakers, I call them customers. You know, the people who paid hundreds for the console and buy content when/if it’s provided.

Someone at SCEE needs to wake up and realize a store should be packed with content for people to browse and even… buy! Thus generating…profits for SCEE and its third parties and happy customers, everyone wins!

Comment by lbpguy — Jun 27, 2008 @ 7:26 am
No “Elefunk” seen in the wilds of the US ‘Store either. Obviously lots of localisation translation issues to overcome with the dialog[ue] in “Elefunk”… almost as much as there is in “echochrome”. Odd thing about “echochrome” is that if you download the Japanese version it is just as playable as any English language title.

The delay for Echochrome is because, for marketing reasons, they are releasing it the same week as the PSP version. I don’t know why so many people find that difficult to understand. SCEE have been completely transparent about it from the start.
Elefunk is an SCEE developed game so it will be on the Euro store first. It’s nothing to do with locallisation.
Comment by tw33t3rz — Jun 27, 2008 @ 9:53 am
@stirlo
I never said it was stealing.
My point was that to register a US account, unless you are a resident there, you are breaking a legally binding contract.
If you do this and then come and complain that you already have the games that are out this week in PAL territories seems pretty silly.
Comment by John — Jun 27, 2008 @ 10:19 am
@ John
You have a point, however, as it’s a very easy door to close, there has to be reasonable cause to believe there’s an official blind eye being turned to it.
Europe is the most complicated market to release in due to the number of languages, meaning more tranalsation, localisation etc. The fact is the most common language across the region is English. So you can save a lot of money by leaving a backdoor open to the American site and accept that a large number of people in Europe will downlioad from there.
If the English language demo’s came out here without localisation, then the French, German, Spanish, Italian, etc would be right in complaining about the Anglo-centric PSN. But if you release in the US and accept people will download from there, you get round that problem. It’s a nice sneaky plan that has been working out so far.
To my mind though, there should be one global site with all the news, the offical PS.blog and everything in one location. Then it’ll pick up your IP and decide what country you’re in. This decides what you get to see. But as in my vision the games would be complete for all regions at the same time, then it’s only the videos and local stories that will differ.

“…I don’t know why so many people find that difficult to understand. SCEE have been completely transparent about it from the start.”
Not difficult to understand if I’d known that. The statement was obviously too transparent to see!
Sorry I annoyed you… but I had not heard that information prior to your comment.
@47 [Adam]:
The problem with IP address-centric content is that people in Europe who connect to the InterWeb by US servers would never be able to see local news/downloads.

I remember the days when a demo & the MGS database would be hailed as a great week for the PS Store! We’ve had updates before where its just been a couple of trailers, so while this is nothing special I honestly can’t see why people are so irate over this.
And as for the whole downloading from the US store business; as I’m sure its pointed out by someone each time, Sony actually “fixed” the Uncharted demo when UK users complained about the US demo being region locked, so I can’t see them barring people from the PSN.
Comment by Matthew — Jun 27, 2008 @ 12:24 pm

SCEE should communicate better with their fans, we all know that.
Sorry, you didn’t annoy me, I’m just grumpy

@49 [Matthew]:
If you are going to promote a non-region specific console so that game titles bought outside of your region can be played locally, and certain titles use localised servers for online connections (meaning, for example, that a US bought item has to connect to a US server), then you cannot restrict access to a regional ‘Store for fear of rending that game useless online.
If upgrades, updates, patches &/or game packs are available as downloadable content you also need to keep the channels to the other regions open so that the non-local game title can be supported too.
Also, it helps if you are reporting facts about the number of users of the PlayStation Network too…
[ http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/06/26/over-9-8-million-served-on-psn/ ]
What with multiple Master & multiple Sub accounts for each Master account the actual quantity of unique parties ’served’ will be less that 9.8 million, but it is a great statistic to quote to rivals

No problem.
Hopefully with the recent news that Sony are looking to create an ‘official’ European/UK communications channel to complement the existing US Blog site, and the good ground work that ThreeSpeech.com has offered, we should not have to resort to sourcing information ourselves.
But, to be honest, I can count on the fingers of one hand, the number of times I have looked at the XrossMediaBar [XMB] RSS Feed &/or logged into the official site via the PS3 browser.
If the PSP can have ‘Google’ search results within the XMB (with the latest two firmware updates), I’m sure it won’t be long before we can subscribe to news channels on the PS3.
Which reminds me… Electronic Arts send me information relating to the products I have bought once they detect I have played online (after the initial sign-up procedure to the service). If the amount of e-mail traffic could be restricted to one or two per month & not be too over-bearing, I would like to see other Companies offering similar services.

No John, it is a waste & your “What a waste by HMV for stocking that new album, I got it last week from BitTorrent” analogy is absolute mince. It should read “what a waste by HMV for stocking that new album, I got it last month from the US for half the price, including shipping” - nothing illegal there, I’m just fed up of waiting MONTHS (Unreal Tournament 3 anybody?) for the same product to be released on these shores at nearly double the price. It’s an absolute outrage & there’s no justification for it whatsoever. Yes, I’d much rather buy the Euro version at a reasonable price - I’m a Sony fan to the core, but I’m really starting to have my doubts.
With the notable exception of MGS4, I can’t honestly say the PS3 versions of any of the current titles are any better than other versions, especially when they keep getting delayed release dates. Fatal Inertia? Tried the demo yet? It made me want to cry - “oh, it’s much better than the other version” - that it might be, but it’s still substandard.
I’m so hoping they release WipEout HD soon & negate any fears I have. I want to own the king of consoles, hence I bought the PS3 at release, but so far I feel like the unwanted uncle who turns up to the party uninvited & drunk, letches at the girls & bores relatives with stories of glories past…
Comment by Zoob — Jul 3, 2008 @ 9:34 am
Oh & when I talk about waste - I’m referring to the power of the PS3 being utilised for updated 8 bit titles & “databases” as opposed to the stonking games we’ve been lured with.
Comment by Zoob — Jul 3, 2008 @ 9:39 am
Oh & I’ve shot myself in the foot - MGS4 is an exclusive title (as are R&C, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, MotorStorm & Resistance), so my comment stands - are any of the PS3 versions of current titles better than other versions?
PS3 UT3 allows the import of mods, but that is user created additional content - not studio created content, so I’m undecided as to whether that should stand.
The exclusive titles are proving themselves to be contenders, without a doubt, but they’re so few & far apart plus they can be completed in days rather than the weeks or months I remember games such as Elite and Populous taking me to finish - hence the glaring gaps in the market. I do have my fingers crossed for Fallout 3 being a good long term committer, but it’s not an exclusive title. So what next? Final Fantasy?
