The new addition to the multi-million selling franchise features 30 new tracks, a brand new harmony duet mode, PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) Remote Play functionalities, increased levels of personalisation and an entry point to MySingStarOnline™ – the rapidly growing online SingStar community. Whether you’re an entertainer, a diva, a rocker, a crooner or hip hopster - or even a shy star – there will be something for you with artists including The Killers, Eminem, Kaiser Chiefs, Gorillaz and many many more. SingStar Vol. 2 will of course give you access to SingStore™ where you can browse, select and download new songs and create your perfect playlist. Vol. 2 will feature a harmony duet mode: a new way of playing that allows two players to sing different lines to a song at the same time, showing off their harmonising skills. Special tracks have been included to showcase this new mode such as Kool and the Gang: Celebration, the Paul McCartney & the Frog Chorus: We all Stand Together and The Mamas & The Papas: California Dreamin’.
SingStar™ Summer Party (PS2)
Summer is on its way – at least for all SingStar players it certainly is, as the latest PS2 release offers nothing but sunshine soaked hits for anyone tuneful enough to wield one of the famous SingStar microphones. With hits from current pop favourites Amy Winehouse, Girls Aloud and Rihanna alongside vintage tracks from Pulp, David Bowie and Elton John, SingStar Summer Party is 2008’s definitive summer music experience.
DancingStage™ SuperNOVA 2 (PS2 - Third-Party Title – Konami)
The original interactive dance series, the Dancing Stage titles have sold over two million copies across Europe to date, and DancingStage SuperNOVA 2 adds more footwork fun to the gameplay. Hop on the dance mat controller and attempt to match the complex moves that flash up on the screen as big-name dance tracks play. The better you get, the more complex the moves become. DancingStage SuperNOVA 2 features an all-new Hyper Master mode, which challenges you to clear courses of four to eight missions followed by a boss battle – only by outdancing the boss can you move forwards. With tracks from Justin Timberlake, Bobby Brown and Goldfrapp, you’ll be moving for a long, long time.
Movement (PSN)
Seeking out the greatest unsigned bands from across Europe, Movement is an exclusive PSN music experience which will open your ears, your PS3 and PSP to the best in international music. From French electronica to London grindie via melody driven rock from Germany, you’ll hear it all courtesy of hosts Spencer and Martin who are tracking down the sweetest sounds across the continent in their VW Camper. With exclusive downloads on PSN and performances at PlayStation Day, movement will culminate with one band being selected by Spencer and Martin to have a professional promo video made. Look out for the entire madcap adventure on PSN soon.
MP3/PS3
PS3 might not be the first thing that springs to mind when talking about MP3s, but when it comes to digital music, PS3 is second to none. Use its vast memory and processing to store and manage your MP3 files – and then play them back straight into your living room for a digital musical experience that’s sure to eliminate a connecting cable or two…

needs more visualisers when playing back music on the PS3.
couldn’t care less for SingStar.

‘Use its vast memory and processing to store and manage your MP3 files’
Hurrah, so does that mean they are going to improve the way you can organise your music on the ps3….!?

Impressed by the earth visualiser - space trippy or what!
Comment by JohnSketch — May 13, 2008 @ 7:41 pm
I dont think that sony is really seeing the importance of music in ps3. Like mobiletone said, there are only 3 visualisers. And like Jeebers, i agree that the organization is really shittiii…
And if by any means you want to have the music in a external HD, than you are really in crap, my friend.
I have a HD from western digital, and i press the PS button, and the ps3 connects…and my 500g external HD (Western Rocks…YEAHHHHH!!!!!), but, if i want to listen to music…what the hell, i have to wait 15 min to have it all, so i can see it a listen, in mean while, if my cat goes like: ” I want to play warhawk, i dont want to listen to music…” and touch the O button about 1 min to the end, i have to started all over again…
So please Sony, make the ps3 a really coll home mediacenter and putt that things right, the singstar vol.2 is not enought, i now that you guys only want our money, like 1,5€ for tracks is like 1,5$ too…ups…my old teacher of mat tell me not…she’s telling me that 1,5€ is not igual to 1,5$…i cant believe it…well…she’s wrong…sony knows what is doing(stealing)…

Dualshock 3 announcement?
Comment by DaveC — May 13, 2008 @ 10:24 pm
I can’t believe they’re releasing SingStar Vol. 2 - I don’t feel I’ve got my money’s worth from the first copy yet! Need more downloadable RECENT songs for the current version please.
Comment by Slate8 — May 14, 2008 @ 8:23 am
agree on the visualisers, but work on in game XMB first eh?
Comment by MrJimmy — May 14, 2008 @ 8:36 am
@RickyVeiga - same here, the handling of an external HD/any other source aside from the internal disc is a bit poor, should be more seamless. How about an option to make a particular attached device the default for each media type, e.g. videos on my ext HD, MP3’s on my USB key etc. If they are connected use that first, else use the internal HD.
Then, add some cached indexes so it’s not searching the whole directory every time use a source. Maybe one index for al sources whatever..

Definately need more recent downloads for Singstar! I’d also like to see more decent rock music!!
Comment by Monkey Rimmer — May 14, 2008 @ 8:57 am
How about the ability to play (’jam’) along with MP3s from the PS3 hard drive in future “Rock Band” or “Guitar Hero” titles?
“Guitar Hero IV” is to include drum & vocal support, in addition to bass & lead guitars, to “modify” the pre-defined tracks as desired. The resultant ‘creation’ can then be uploaded for sharing with others, and a suitable sleeve can be designed for the virtual release.
SingStar… Rock Band… Guitar Hero… and even the Wii “Battle Of The Bands”… it seems like music/instrument-based titles are getting some serious attention this year.
How long will it be before somebody writes an iTunes interface for the PS3 (to complement the existing BBC iPlayer ‘Hacker’ project)?

Singstar is a good party came for PS3 but it really needs more.
I cant believe that SOny have not noticed the success of the WII.
They have developed nothing to deal with the WII, why not?
The PS Eye has good potential to take on the WII and Sony have done nothign with it. A year after buying my PS3 im playing eye toy games with my ps2 camera. Its so sad
Its impossible to buy hard dance mats now and so Im not playing that either now my Logic dance mat has past its shelf life.
SONY BRING MORE PARTY AND EXCERICSE LIKE GAMES OUT or dont be suprised if the WII continues to dominate.
Why is this so hard to understand?

Better organisation of MP3 files on the PS3 is needed. At present it’s a real PITA, with music on an external HDD it’s all got to be named a certain way to be displayed nicely, but if you copy it across to the PS3’s internal drive it all goes out of order because it uses a separate method of ordering for that. An iTunes style ordering system would be fantastic, far more important to the PS3’s success than Singstar tbh. The PS3 needs to position itself as the ultimate home media centre, and at present there are a few holes that need plugging!

Rumor: PlayStation trophies to hit in June
Posted on May 14th, 2008 at 02:16 EDT
According to our PS3forum industry insider [ PS3Forums.com ], Sony will be releasing Firmware 2.4 sometime in June around the launch of Metal Gear Solid 4. Also mentioned is that the new Firmware 2.4 will include some of the first PlayStation Trophies. *Note that these will be the 2D trophies found on the XMB and not the 3D trophies coming in Home later this year.
“The SDK 2.40 will be available to dev. late in June. The actual Firmware 2.40 might see the light of day a lot sooner (my personal guess would be launch aligned or slightly before MGS4 ).” - PS3Forum Insider
Further into the thread, they state that the Firmware 2.4 will also include improved Audio/Video communication, however don’t get your hopes up that this is for in-game XMB. As developers will receive their 2.4 debug units in June, expect that only first party Sony titles to have trophies first.

No, ThreeSpeech, I don’t think you heard us.
We asked: DualShock 3?!!
Comment by Zed Zee — May 14, 2008 @ 3:10 pm
Zed Dee for fucks sake when u next turn ur PC on, instead of wasting everyones time and coming here to ask about the ds3, go on ebay or play.asia and order one! its easy! we sorted this out on the playstation day posts.
ur getting really boring now, especially seeing as theres an EASY fix to ur problem.
3speech- a few other ppl aside who make regular posts- im afraid that ur website is in danger of being flooded with posts by complete numpties whos main gripes are easily fixed. now if Zed Dee were complaining about lack of in game xmb accessibility then fair enough, but hes not! and the fact that many of the ppl who regularly visit 3speech already own dualshock3s from what i gather makes the moaners look even more lazy and inept.
nothing personal, just a fact!

i have about 30,000 mp3 files, the ps3 can hardly list them all..takes about 2 minutes to scroll to the rolling stones!! PS3 needs to find an intuitive way to get to artists quickly…in itunes i type ‘rolling’ and i’m pretty much there in 10 seconds…could PS3 put my external folders into letters of the alphabet so i scroll to the letter ‘R’ and open that?
Comment by phil — May 14, 2008 @ 6:37 pm
yes phil u can. i havent got as many tunes as u on my hdd but ive got a cpl o thousand. if u press the square button it goes thru alternative search modes and im pretty sure that theres an alphabetical external folder search. it does the same for photos too i.e. month, year, name etc.
the magic square button eh? gotta love it!
Comment by gareth — May 14, 2008 @ 8:34 pm
I use the “magic square button” to list my “game demos” separately from my “full games” by setting the “Information” field on each title to one or other of these names.
The list of games is then split into two sub-folders & it makes searching for what I want a little easier as the most recent title played in either “Information” (folder title) category is always at the top of the list.
Anything new I download & awaiting installation is placed above the two folders, and anything installed (without me setting the “Information” field) is placed below the folders.
I also purposely set the sort orders differently across my main & sub accounts so I can tell instantly which account I am logged into.
Perhaps another item for the next firmware (2.35 today [US, so far], and 2.4 in June) release would be an on-screen indication of which account I am logged into.
The new PLAYSTATION Store pages show this, so I’m sure it won’t be long before the XrossMediaBar catches up.
PS. There’s a photo of the “Guitar Hero IV” drum kit online at Destructoid.com & it includes cymbals…
